The things we look for in an establishment, quiet place that we can hear each other, the environment to be calming, and taking my allergies serious without getting irritated or giving false information. If I can walk away without my anxiety being triggered or my allergies triggered, we have found a gem to return to. Driving from Colorado Springs through Salida, Co to the Sand Dunes, we decided to stop for a later lunch. We stopped by The Boathouse and was rather loud along with no four top outside. The host referred us to Pizza Rio and said they had outdoor seating and it's usually quieter. Heading up the stairs, customers coming down said it's worth it. The host showed us the tables outside and indeed was very quiet and had a beautiful view of the river. When we sat down, the heaters were still on but the server turned them off for us and opened the shade screen. My husband got the Greek salad with a slice of pepperoni pizza. My son got the vodka penne pasta, my mom got the meatball grinder and I got the Greek salad with arugula and spinach and the spaghetti and meatballs. Everything on the menu said it was made in house including the dressings. And WOW!!!! The flavor these dishes had was top notch Italian and dishes were decent/big sized. Cost wasn't as high as we thought, and the server was extremely accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through. Great job to the cooks, amazing!!! On the recommendation of a friend we stopped in a late lunch. Being a Monday, mid-day, the place was pretty quiet but the waitress was very attentive and we were able to get the primo table on the patio overlooking the Arkansas River. I ordered a Row Me cocktail and my husband had a Sangria, both refreshing and delicious. We ordered a small River Guide pizza which was 6 large slices (we took home 2). This place is the real deal if you like new york pizza. I lived in new york and was surprised how good it was. If it is your first time do it right and only have the cheese with no other toppings. If you want other toppings order a second pizza or slice but other toppings are not needed. The caesar salad was good too and good sized. read more

I knew better than to have high hopes about pizza in Colorado, but this place was recommended by an acquaintance who lives in town. Even she remarked that she was surprised at how bad this place has become after our experience with delivery. This is thoroughly greasy and disappointing pizza. The inner crust disintegrates because there is no structural integrity. It was essentially soup in the middle. We don't know how they take this pizza out of the oven with a straight face. The salad was laughable with wilted greens. The salad dressing was so thick, the texture of room temperature butter, it was a chore to adorn the salad. It didn't taste like much but was packed with fat. We gave up because we couldn't understand or appreciate this take on salad dressing. And that is the main attraction for a caesar salad. Oh, and we ordered some cheesecake. It wasn't as advertised. It was chocolate cheesecake. They must have given us the gluten free version but we didn't order that. We ordered traditional which amounts to vanilla. We can't stand chocolate cheesecake and we wouldn't have ordered it if we had known. The texture was tough and dense, not creamy. Be aware that there is an unexplained 1% service fee if you order online that is lumped in with tax. Nice grift. Believe me when I say, you are better off getting a frozen pizza at Safeway than eating here. When my friend ate lunch the next day, she opted for her leftover frozen pizza rather than her leftovers from here because the pizza was that bad. I opted to throw ours out as the pizza fell apart even attempting to get it out of the box refrigerated. There was no reasonable way to try and reheat it because it was soup disguised as pizza. read more

This spicy calabrese chili loaded pizza on a thin crust with pep, and mozzarella , ...not for the faint of heart! My hub had the Back Country Betty Wheat brew. It was sun shiney citrus & refreshing, though slightly bitter for his taste. I had the Italian margarita...tasted like the baby of a margarita & a mai tai. Perfect drink. I mean, how often does your server say "I appreciate you," not once, but twice. He was prompt, friendly & checked on us at a perfect pace. Ambiance: For those who have not been to Salida...do it. Spent the day exploring Salida and had our dog with us so looking for a dog friendly restaurant and found Pizza Rio with their outdoor patio on the rooftop. Great views and loved sitting outside in a beautiful day watching people use the river and play. Served greeted us promptly and gave us time to look over the menu. We ordered the Paddler Hand-crushed tomato sauce, smoked provolone, pears, walnuts, gorgonzola & arugula, with fresh chives. Finished with a balsamic reduction glaze and added sausage to it! This review does not cover the food, just service, as we did not get to eat here. We came in town from camping with our dogs and were recommended to eat here as they allow dogs on the patio. We were told to wait 5-10 minutes for a patio table. We had to wait there as there are no reservations or holds. They were kind and brought us water while we waited (odd that we were told to wait inside with the dogs but could not order food inside). Yay - our table is ready. My husband went to the table before me and was told no, we can't have the table. It was reserved. After much back and forth about whether tables can be reserved we were told it was because it was for friends of the owners. We could wait longer for another table. Um, no. Not going to do that. From start to finish, what a fantastic dining experience at Pizza Rio. The restaurant is super cute. Think beach house vibes. It was within walking distance of where we were staying and is now my first choice spot for future visits to Salida. Lots of fresh food options on the menu and top-notch service from every staff member we interacted with throughout our meal. I ordered the Cold Italian sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. One of the freshest sandwiches I've ever tasted, and it's making my mouth water just thinking about it. My partner had a spaghetti dish that was so good, it made me regret not ordering it for myself. And of course, their spicy Bloody Mary was a deliciously perfect complement to the food. We even ordered a cheese pizza to-go for the kids, and they loved it. Fun and laid-back atmosphere that can get busy, especially for larger crowds. I didn't know much about Salida before this trip, and now I'm simply amazed by the quality of service and ingredients this town is capable of. Ordered a pizza for delivery. Delivery man showed up an hour late with the wrong order. The delivery man then left and never came back. We called Pizza Rio and were told their delivery service is through a 3rd party only, so once they pass off the food there's nothing they can do, and they were closing. Like, grease dripping off the pizza greasy. But otherwise, very tasty. Hubs and I shared the greek salad which was also really good. A sign near the sidewalk entrance to Pizza Rio says "dog friendly" so, looking for an early (4:30p) dinner on our way to Edwards COv this afternoon we decided to stop at this Salida riverfront roof deck pizza place. Our server was not delighted to see we had a dog, and made a big deal of having to walk around him, but ultimately she warmed up to him. From the rooftop dining area, there is a nice, but obstructed view of the Arkansas River and the rafters, surfers and swimmers enjoy ping the chilly water on a warm day. Eager to get some food quickly and get back on the road we ordered a 1/2 cheese 1/2 pepperoni 16" pie. Simply stated, this style of pie was not our cup of tea. Not the crust, the sauce, or the greasy cheese. Pizza is a highly personal taste. This wasn't ours. Based on others' reviews, we are apparently in the minority. To each his own. read more

Great place at the top of quite a few stairs, above the boathouse with a great view Hubby and I shared a house salad- don't let it device you- their are layers of salad tucked in that bowl, not just a bunch of lettuce with a little veg on top... was so pleasantly surprised.
