Bit crowded on a Friday night, came as a party of two with a reservation. Noticed most diners tended to gravitate to the bar for a bit more relaxed atmosphere. Cool thing to note here is that you can purchase bottles of liquors for consumption and if you don't finish, they'll store it in a locker for you to come back and finish at your leisure. Vibe here is modern industrial, lots of black metal with wood tones and tasteful lighting/light up signs. Service was attentive if a bit hard to understand due to the noise level of the crowd. This would probably be mitigated somewhat if they didn't insist on blasting the music but hey it's Saturday in ktown. Food itself is standard Korean gastropub fare. Soy garlic wings, steak over kimchi fried rice and sweet potato fries were all done well. I will note that the steak was cooked perfectly, pink soft in the middle, decent char on outside. The problem however, boils down to the age old value proposition. If all else is equal but price is higher, diners are persuaded to go elsewhere. Additionally the location of OSAMIL being off the main Ktown strip is a bit inconvenient considering what you're paying for. 3/5: cool ambiance, nothing else to really write home about. This was also my second time ordering the drink 'Da Green Monstah' and I love the subtle taste of matcha! I came here for a birthday dinner with a few of my friends on a Monday and I was pretty amazed with the food that they served. Amazed might be an understatement. We shared a very good spread across the board. We started out with the Uni Bibimbap which contained maine uni, quinoa, wasabi tobiko, rice, kimchi, soy pickled radish & dressing, perilla, shallot, seaweed purée, and mustard green. This tasted amazing once it was all mixed together. Squid Fries were pretty good, especially with the soy wasabi mayo dip & vinegar gochujang that comes with it. Daenjang-Foie Gras Mousse & Toast was a pretty interesting dish, very tasty needless to say. Bone Marrow Spread might have been my favorite. It's served with garlic purée, onion purée, and toasted baguette. I liked it plain on the baguette with no purée. The grande finale was the Pork Shank. It came with perilla-apple salad, spicy radish kimchi, ssam-jang, pickled radish, jalapeño, onion and lettuce wrap. This was enormous and a little too much after eating all of the other previous stuff, so I'd definitely recommend possibly getting just this if you plan on ordering the Pork Skank. I also got a birthday drink, which they cleverly named it "Too Legit To Quit". Sounds like an alcoholic problem, but pretty good drink. It came lit on fire which was cool and they did some extra flame trick with a salt shaker. I would definitely like to come back again as some of the meals were amazing. I came here Monday night around 10pm and was able to get a table for myself and 6 others quick. It was a nice little restaurant with a great atmosphere. They played good music too. I'd recommend this place more for the younger adults. We were seated at a small round table in the back. I was surprised the 7 of us fit somewhat comfortably. I loved that they have coat hangers by each table, that was very convenient. Once we got seated we were offered tap water or sparkling. Our server was very nice and let us know his recommendations. They gave us complementary soup. It had a cloudy broth and muscles. Not the best but it was decent. Who doesn't like complementary haha. The food we ordered was delicious! Started wit fries and the Korean fried chicken. The fries were skinny and had the best aioli sauce to go with it. I was surprised when the chicken came out whole. Our server cut it up for us. The bulgogi was really flavorful and tender. It was the special for the night so we also got soju for the table. It was so good!! Really good food! We got wings($1 each special), a mussel soup, the pork shank and the kimchi fried rice. Everything was really tasty with large portions. We left with half of the pork shank to take away. The pork shank was delicious, with the skin cooked so tender and soft. When you eat it with the meat, they just melt in your mouth. The soup has lots of mussels, and the bread was a good combination with it! The kimchi fried rice with medium steak was yummy too. They put lots of ingredients in the fried rice, and the steak was yummy even on its own. The egg on top of it added a little twist to the flavor and I loved it. Made a reservation for a Tuesday at 6pm and I'm glad I did. I got seated right away and within an hour the place became packed. Also on Tuesdays, it's $1 wing day and you can choose from 4 flavors with minimum of 6 pieces each (soy garlic, salt&pepper, spicy, and classic). We ordered the first 3 and spicy was the best. For a person that cannot take spicy at all, it was not spicy and had a hint of sweetness to it. In addition, 5-7 were $1 oysters as well and we got a dozen total. They were fresh and would come back for more. For the rest of the food, we ordered a bunch of skewers including the short rib and spicy pork, which were tasty followed by the pork shank, which was juicy and large in portion, and last but not least, the bone marrow spread. That was the best and comes with 4 pieces of garlic toast (can order additional) and 2 side sauces that wasn't really needed. In terms of service, the waiters were attentive and would ask if you need any more drinks second they see you were done. Have you ever been to Koreatown? Koreatown has a variety of restaurants right in the heart of midtown Manhattan, just a short walk from Penn Station. Osamil is a quaint restaurant tucked away from the hustle and bustle of K-Town. I would highly suggest getting a reservation if you plan to visit. This Korean Pub has two floors and the dimly lit ambiance is something you can definitely get behind. We sat at the bar as we did not make a reservation. The bartenders were super friendly and did not hesitate to create some yummy drinks for us. While the drinks were beautiful I did not find that they were strong however the price tag surely was! I will say I loved the kimchi fried rice and look forward to coming back and trying out other menu items. My friend ordered the beef tartare and the clam tang. She loved the flavor of the clam tang soup. The beef tartare is an acquired taste but she was glad to have tried it. All in all, we had a great time at Osamil and it is worth the visit for anyone searching for Korean cuisine! Osamil is a Korean restaurant that takes classics and elevates them slightly. Instead of regular bibimbap, you'll get Uni bibimbap, which was light and refreshing, but flavorful. Instead of beef fried rice, they serve medium rare steak with a fried egg on top of rice that was mixed with gochuchang. Instead of just plain fries, they had honey butter chips with salmon jerky and sunchokes. Instead of oysters with vinegar and horseradish, they had ponzu sauce and gochuchang. The best part is that the upgrades really work here, taking the ordinary to a new level of deliciousness. They also have HH and daily specials. I recommend: 1) uni bibimbap 2) steak and egg over rice 3) sunchokes with almost like a truffle aioli 4) oysters 5) soy and garlic wings I don't recommend: 1) honey butter chips with salmon jerky. Sounded good in theory, but... in execution, the chips were overfried and borderline soggy and the jerky, which was salty and dry, added nothing to the overall dish. They really need to work on this one. I have had honey butter chips at other Korean restaurants, and they were amazing so the potential is there. Atmosphere is cozy. Osamil is a great restaurant for a modern pub-style take on Korean food. It's very busy and can get pretty loud. I came with a group of 6 girls and we were pretty cramped at the table but we didn't care because the food was SO DAMN GOOD, so let's get to the food! CURED SHRIMP - MY OH MY. The picture of this dish I found on Instagram is what led me to this place and it definitely was worth going here JUST for this dish. First off, it's absolutely beautiful - the soy cured shrimp had my favorites - caviar and UNI served with quinoa. One bite of all 4 things is like an explosion of seafood in your mouth. It was salty, it was creamy, it was tender, it was probably one of the best things I have ever eaten. We ordered a second round because it was SO DAMN GOOD. FRIED CHICKEN - jesus christ, this is the best fried chicken I EVER had and honey, I've had a LOT of fried chicken in my life. I'm not even a fan of white meat and I ate SO much because it was so juicy, it was dripping. The crispy skin was perfectly seasoned and when doused in the soy garlic sauce it came with, it was heaven. SQUID - perfectly grilled squid with a nice char, simple yet so delicious - I'm a big fan! Tastes great with the gochujang sauce. SEAFOOD PANCAKE - I love any seafood pancake so I could be biased but this one was THICK. Loaded with seafood but maintained the crunchiness on top. BLOOD SAUSAGE - I never had korean blood sausage so this first time was a good experience. It didn't taste irony like you would think but a nice blend of meat, noodles, and veggies inside. HONEY BUTTER CHIPS - we have 2 round of this because again, it was so good and addicting. What's not to love about potato chips doused in butter and honey? BULGOGI - tender, well-marinated meat that went so well with scallion KIMCHI FRIED RICE WITH STEAK - delicious mildly spicy kimchi fried rice that has BACON with a fried egg and perfectly medium rare pieces of steak. Good portion for one person and enough to share. SPICY RICE CAKE - it was good but I'm pretty chicken when it comes to spice so I couldn't handle this one. We actually got this dish for free since we ordered so much and had a great time. We had to pack this to go since it came last and we were STUFFED. Osamil is one of my favorite gastropubs near ktown-- a friend recently took me for my birthday and the food was really, really good! We started with the oyster mushroom skewers which were packed full of flavor and ever so slightly charred (Maillard reaction pulling THROUGH); the bacon and scallion skewers were also food (fatty but... it's bacon). But the whole fried chicken was one of the best I've had in New York; the skin was so crispy and flavorful and the dipping sauces were sticky, sweet, garlicky, and spicy. So have been checking out the ktown scene over the last few months and one place always seems to come back for consistency and that is Osamil. I like the fact that it is tucked one street away from the main ktown bustle but more importantly I dig the vibe of this place. They did a great job at setting up a bar and dining room divide. The place itself focuses on Korean fusion although they do have some traditional Korean dishes you would find at any joint in ktown which is then supplemented by dishes with fusion flare. The interior is done up well and im a fan of all the detail from the bar setting to the lockers in the main dining room. Reservations are definitely helpful here as I have been here a few times over the past few months and it seems to be consistently busy no matter what the day is. The servers are super friendly and props to the one server who remembered me after months from my last visit... despite it being because I was "the guy who can drink multiple bottles of soju by myself". I guess its flattering?? So kudos unnamed server! I have a lot of the different food options here from the kimchi fried rice, market chicken, blood sausage, skewers, tartare, army stew, etc. All of it has been pretty solid. All of the food has been good and enjoyed although I think there aren't any "WOW plates". Either way this place serves its exact purpose of providing a pub fare tossing out tapas style dishes along with big dishes and hugs it roots of Korean culture while allowing a bit of that fusion flare to make it friendly and inviting for all. Are we gonna talk about how everything was fantastic both times I came here? First of all, they have these amazing drink and food specials depending on the day of the week. I got the whole fried chicken and two beers the first time around (Monday night) , and it was one of my favorite chicken dishes in nyc. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside with the amazing sauces and scallion garnish. I came back tonight with a date. This venue was perfect due to their variety of drinks, the chill vibes, and of course the amazing food. This time we got the pork shank, soju, and a my tai cocktail because I just can't resist tiki drinks. 10 out of 10 every time! Perfect venue to come with coworkers, friends, or dates. I came to the speakeasy here last night. To get there, you have to go through some narrow stairs that feels very "exclusive." It definitely feels like a classy place and is a cool experience! The drinks are not cheap (ranging from $19-$29). I tried the Panty Dropper which was strong, but pretty good.My friend got Monkey on 31st St which I thought was amazing. A little bit of a fancier than typical gastropub right off the main street of k-town. Cocktails generally verge on the accessible, I consider some two sweet but others hit a really nice balance for people who don't have too much experience with cocktails. Steak tartare is a really amazing take on yukhoe, classically bright, creamy and savory, with just a little hint of heat that somehow hits right in the back of the throat without distracting the tongue. Uni bibimbap was a bit of a disappointment. It was really quite tasty to be honest, rice, nori and perilla really speak out here. The uni kind of just blends in to be just a general savoriness that could be replaced by any number of other savory ingredients. Again, honestly really satisfying but doesn't really take advantage of the amazingness of uni as an ingredient. Endive salad was amazing, delightfully nutty with their choice of literal nuts and cheese while still remaining just bright and fruity enough. Probably one of the best things I tried on the menu. Bouillabaisse was also great and frankly a combination that I hope to see more frequently. Basically a Korean style seafood stew with spice toned down a touch served with mayonnaise smothered toast. Squid was a touch overcooked but crab was great and the broth was a delight, I just wish they gave more bread to sop it up with. Final dish we got was the whole fried chicken which they processed table side.both sauces were good, signature sauce was basically what I imagine the yangnyeom flavor profile to be, for better or for worse. Craveable but I wouldn't say it was actually distinctive. Soy garlic was sweet, savory, and salty, again what I was looking for but nothing really imteresting. Chicken was fried whole, skin crispy without heavy breading. Meat was juicy-ish. Dark meat was definitely moist, breast meat needed a little more individually care that, granted, is not really doable frying whole but still stood out in the face of some truly spectacular chicken available. To brighten up the chicken, you get slivers of scallion, bright pickled radish, and a creamy slaw all of which I thought was pretty well done despite my preference for more acidic slaw. Interior environs suggest a more sophisticated eatery, an emphasis on drink but not quite as casual as any place you would call a bar. You're definitely going here more deliberately and the price shows. I'd say it's worth the price overall; however, it is certainly on the more expensive end for what they're doing. read more

This time around I ordered the Johnson Tang and Seafood Rose Tokbokki. I can't complain about the Johnson Tang - it was the standard army stew you can expect at Korean places. The Seafood Rose Tokbokki was definitely the highlight. The creamy blend of tomato sauce went perfectly well with the chewy rice cakes and seafood inside. I would definitely order this again. The service was great. Our party was late to check in and lost our originally booked seat, but the staff was very accommodating and made sure we got a seat in the upfront area with the higher tables. The table did get a bit crowded with the ordered food, but the staff was attentive in constantly making sure we had enough space, checking in consistently to remove unnecessary dishes and items along the way. read more

This place was highly recommend by friends who are native to New York, made a reservation for 8/12/2023 at 8:15 PM, but when we walk in we have encounter a Korean male hostess with curly hair with a super nasty attitude, and when we trying to confirm our reservation with him instead inform us that we might have reserve the wrong date he zoomed in on his iPad and said do you know what date is it? I mean if we did made the wrong reservation just have to tell us don't have to be nasty about it, way to give a "positive" first impression to first time customer. Came here last night for a Galentine's day dinner with my sisters and a friend. The ambience is cool, it's a nice casual spot for after work drinks or dinner. We waited about 25 minutes until someone finally approaches us to take our drink order. I had the New York sour which is a whiskey cocktail blended in egg whites. It was delicious. For dinner we split the pork shank and the fried chicken. The pork shank was so tender it slid right off the bone. Amazing. The fried chicken was ok, but it was a little on the dry side. Was recommended to come here by a friend and was so glad we did. I've had kimchi fried rice, and just fried rice in general, so many times throughout my life but Osamil's one is the best I've had hands down. My BF and I devoured it in about 30 seconds which even surprised out waiter! Pork shank was delicious as well but was way too much for just 2 people which we should have known so that's our bad. Had an incredible experience here! Tried 4 different dishes total and they were all outstanding. Everything is seriously a must try! Beef tartare: Tastes slightly different from the other raw beef dishes I've eaten but seriously so delicious! It's basically like a spicy (not too spicy) stew with seafood and lobster. All the seafood was cooked to perfection and the lobster melted in my mouth and wasn't tough at all. Loved the flavor of the soup - wasn't too spicy where it was painful and also wasn't overly salty. Uni bibimbap: This was my all time favorite dish. The quinoa and all the other side ingredients like seaweed and veggies added into this dish complimented the uni so well. Don't know how else to describe this dish other than telling you that you must try!!!!! Eat for yourself! Overall - I will absolutely be returning to this place. The bar upstairs is great. The food is good here but the place is a little tight so it's not the best place to eat, drink, and chill. But otherwise, food was great. read more
