Maybe I should give this place another go before I review, I really wanted to love this place like the 5 starts it has but It was just okay to me. I liked their cheese dip. I got some kinda chicken bowl and I honestly like Chipotle better. This is a Chipotle style, mom and pop, shop. The food is fresh and good but there was just something lacking for me. A quick visit to Olathe at lunchtime brought this up on Yelp, I figured I'd trust the ratings. I'm so glad I did!!! All kinds of yummy, fresh, flavorful Mexican dishes. What a nice welcome when you walk in and then a quick run down of their options. I chose the bowl with green chili pork, rice, pinto beans (amazing all on their own) and all the sauces. Perfect! I may have to invent reasons to visit Olathe now. read more

Most Mexican restaurants give free salsa not just tiny condiment cup that hold maybe 2 Tbs. Unless you pay! How can you eat chips and 3 bites of salsa! I value a Mexican place by their salsa and chips alone! The salsa is good chips too hard but if you have to pay for a good portion of salsa not worth going here! read more

Like the salad a lot (the lettuce bowl, not the one in a taco- I'm sure that's good but I haven't tried it yet), with the zesty chicken and spicy avocado sauce. Great service. Their takeout containers are recyclable plastic and biodegradable paper... No styrofoam here! They also respected my takeout request for no plastic utensils. read more

We hadn't heard about them but hands down this is the best Mexican food we've had since we moved here from Oklahoma. We had the empanadas, Tacos and the rice bowl - everything was fresh and just so flavorful. The Guacamole was AWESOME. Meat was tender and fresh - we will definitely be back! read more

Went here today based on the reviews they had, glad I did. We where greeted as soon as we walked in the door and asked if this was our first time there, then they explained the menu and gave us samples of their meet. Husband had nachos with beef Verdi sauce and I had burrito bowl with steak, not only was our food delicious but they made our dishes look beautiful. Definitely a place we will tell our friends about and we will return for sure! read more

This was my first time at Oscar's. My friend and I had plans and wanted someplace quick to eat. I was in the mood for Mexican and my friend suggested this place. I was very impressed with it for how quick the food came out. It's a pretty small place. They weren't very busy for a Friday night. The service was friendly, the place was clean, and the food was good. I would probably go back if I need to stop someplace quick again in the future. read more

Alllllllright folks. Where do I even start with Oscars?! They are the BOMB!! So delicious and fresh every time. The first time I went with my best friend and I was like "no way, this had to be a one off... they can't be this fire" (delicious for you elder-berries). Went back the next day (yes the very next day) & been a regular since! I try something new every time and have never been disappointed. & don't get me started on the customer service!! I pulled in for a car side order one day (as I'm lazy and don't care for judgement) and the girl was like "omg you are such vibes. Like bad chick vibes" & I fell in love with her (figure of speech) best day ever. Anywho, visit them. Great prices for the amount of food you get read more

Oscar's Authentic Mexican Grill is tucked away in a sort of shopping strip behind a McDonald's and next door to a Dollar Tree. It's not exactly easy to see from the road. In fact, I've been to that McDonald's and Dollar Tree several times and only recently discovered Oscar's. Blink and you might miss it. What you would be missing is a very good Mexican restaurant with reasonable prices and pleasant workers. There are numerous Mexican inspired eateries around, but for the money you can't really beat the quality and amount of food. I mean, would you rather spend $6 - $7 for three small tacos with basic lettuce, cheese, and meat down the road at a fast food taco joint or $12 on two overly stuffed tacos with fresher ingredients? The staff here is always very nice and seem genuinely happy and appreciative of your business (especially during this Covid pandemic). They do have online ordering, curbside or parked delivery, or you could go into the restaurant. They have a van outside so I'm guessing they also do deliveries. Is the food authentic Mexican? I'm not Mexican and have never been to Mexico so I've no idea. What I do know is that the food is delicious. I usually do tacos on "Taco Tuesday" and the tacos are stuffed with fresh ingredients. It does make for kind of a messy meal since it's tough to keep everything within the soft shell since there's so much of it. I've also eaten their enchiladas and burritos and they're just as good. Oh, and the salsa has good flavor and actually has a kick. I think Oscar's qualifies as a sort of hidden gem. If you have a hankering for Mexican fast casual food, I recommend trying Oscar's. It might not be "all that" to you, but it's definitely worth it. read more

We went here for some quick food while running errands. We chose this place because they said they had green chili, which they didn't. But the food was good and the salsas we fresh and tasty. The refried beans were lacking, little too runny for my liking. It was clean, staff was friendly and over all I'd stop by in a pinch again. They get three stars for the the lack of green chili. read more

After a couple years I finally tried Oscars. It is unassuming, located in an Olathe strip mall, but don't let that deter you from checking it out. The menu is small but the food exceeded expectations. The soft corn tortillas tasted fresh, the chicken & refried beans were flavorful, and the queso rivaled any other in the city. Most of all, each of the staff were attentive and carried a smile despite his busy they were filling take out orders. Prices are on point. We will definitely back! read more

Was hoping for better when we saw the reviews for this restaurant. Ordered through GrubHub and everything went wrong. Never received notice the food had been sitting on our doorstep for an unknown amount of time (GrubHub's fault), missing the chips we paid for, salsa that was requested, and silverware (at a hotel, we have none). Too late to call for missing items because they are now closed (ordered 1.5 hours before closing). Food is okay considering it had to be reheated. Glad we won't be ordering again since only in town this weekend. read more

It is easy to see why this small restaurant has such high ratings. When you go inside, this restaurant is very clean. As you approach the area to order your food, there are several staff in the small kitchen area working together to plate your food. They let you choose your protein on all of their items. They have enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. They also have chicken empanadas. Our group ordered tacos and sides of their original beans. Everyone thought the beans were delicious. They were flavored with some sort of sausage and we enjoyed the flavor so much that we poured some of it over the small serving of Mexican rice we also received. They make your food assembly-line style, and have all the traditional toppings like cilantro, raw onions, a variety of salsa, sour cream, and cheese etc. I want to go back and try the empanadas. I saw someone order them and they looked delicious. I also want to try their burritos. The person ahead of us ordered those and they were rivaling the size of Chipotle's. Oh, and for the purpose of research, we ordered their cheese pie for dessert. This was a very dense cheesecake Lightly flavored like caramel. Posting pics as well. read more

Like everyone else we have heard/read the buzz about Oscar's. Today we decided to check it out...and they lived up to the hype in every single way. First and foremost they asked if we were first timers (yes). The gentleman took a couple of minutes to describe the meats available. My youngest daughter sampled one of them prior to ordering. You can tell that these guys have PRIDE in their restaurant, their food and their customer service. They are as genuine as it gets and that REALLY counts for a lot today. Even if the food was just "pretty good" and not great we will return just because of the service and pride. :) The food is very good. There is a very nice selection of various meats and toppings so there is something for everyone. The salsa is yummy, the pico is also delicious. Next time we will try the guacamole. We had the burrito bowls and it was more food than we could really eat. I seldom review anything at 5 stars (I am picky) but these guys EARN every 5 star review they get. My hope for them is that they get busy enough they could take their show on the road with an Oscar's Authentic Mexican Grill Food Truck! It would be a home run! read more

When the owners of my favorite little Mexican restaurant go on vacation, it is almost as though my world stops... no hand made gorditas... no Taco Tuesday. BUT now I have a new spot that I've come to love: Oscars Authentic Mexican Grill. I heard a friend mention it recently, and my wife and I decided to do a little "Taco Reconnaissance." The menu is simple, but there are plenty of choices to create your very own perfect combination of tacos. That first visit was 2 weeks ago and I lunched there today for the third time. I've now tried all the meat choices-- my favorites are the ground beef and the adobo chicken... and I'm also smitten with their simple, unaffected guacamole. There's nothing special about the venue... in fact you'll probably miss it unless you're looking for it. But DON'T MISS IT. What it lacks in pizazz it makes up for with a FRIENDLY and HELPFUL staff at the counter! They have been consistently engaging EVERY TIME I've entered the door. I'll still keep visiting my original favorite spot when they're open, but i won't hesitate to go back to Oscars. read more

A new favorite in the area! I've been twice in a week, because everything has been amazing! Our first visit we were warmly welcomed by everyone behind the counter. They explained the menu really quick, and explained all the meats available. It made us rethink what we wanted to order, but in the best way possible - everything sounded great. My dad got the burrito/rice bowl with the verde pork, my mom got a burrito with the adobe chicken, and I got corn tacos, one with adobe chicken and one with carnitas. The carnitas were definitely my favorite - so juicy and flavorful! The most recent visit my mom and I tried the chicken flautas, which were messy but good! The queso and guac are also great. Basically, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu! read more

Not impressed! The queso enchiladas looked pretty, but the tortillas were raw. The carnitas tacos weren't bad. Taste was ok, but overall pretty bland. The "hot" salsa has not heat or flavor. Portion size is pretty small even though the prices aren't. I feel like I could have gotten more for my money elsewhere read more

While visiting Olathe from California, I noticed this restaurant off in the distance and the name caught my eye. We decided to give it shot. Omg!!!!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would!!!!! The food is remarkable!!! I ordered two chile verde soft flour tacos, rice and beans. And guacamole ;) Staff was incredibly friendly and the place was busy and clean. I wish I could eat here every day for the rest of my life. I'd be completely content in doing so. read more

So unexpected! Oscars is located in a strip mall and is excellent! We ordered a variety of items because everything sounded good and we were right to! Chicken Flautas (taquitos) were freshly rolled and fried and were a hit. Chicken nachos, spicy chicken quesadilla, and chicken tacos were all so delicious! The "spicy chicken" is not so spicy you can't enjoy it... there is a lot of flavor but just enough kick. Everything is very fresh and the customer service was amazing!!! Everyone working there was so wonderful! The real show stoppers were the homemade guacamole and the white queso! I would strongly recommend oscars!!! read more

My parents have been RAVING about this place for a while now, but I was skeptical because I am a Chipotle fanatic. They finally convinced me to try it tonight and WOW. I wish I lived in Olathe full time because I'd eat there a couple times a week for sure. The carne asada meat was seasoned and cooked to perfection and the pinto beans were in a beautiful mix that added an extra touch to the bowl. At the end the bowl was so aesthetically pleasing I almost didn't even want to eat it! 10 stars if I could!!! read more

The staff were exceptionally friendly, asked if it was our first time, made sure we knew what everything was. Their chips are the perfect level of thin and crispy, the salsa is great, and I love the wide range of margarita flavors they offer. As far as the service.... Again, been going here for two decades and I don't recall one single occasion of bad service. It's always been the kind of place where they recognize and appreciate the regulars. It's a good atmosphere! I suppose I should talk more about the food. Again, never a bad experience really. I get one of two things- the steak fajitas, which are good but not incredibly memorable- or the divine chicken cream cheese enchilada. I haven't been able to find it's like anywhere. I lived in Texas for three years and I LONGED for my cream cheese chicken enchiladas. The sauce, oh the sauce..... I always get extra, both for the dish itself and to dip my chips in. I will say that the only downside is doing to go or a call in order.... It is not exactly uncommon to find that an extra sauce is missing. Or, for example, if you don't specify that you want the free chips and salsa, it may not be in there. Just check the bag before you leave, that's all I'm saying. Still, one or two little mistakes absolutely will not stand in the way of a five star rating. I honestly love eating here.

The dip was good, no spice at all just cheese. For my entree I tried the fajita bowl with chicken and let me tell you, it came in a very big bowl. There was equal amounts rice and black beans and plenty of fajitas and chicken. I felt it was all generous and there was not too little of anything. The waiter was very attentive and checked in with us multiple times. I would recommend this location for good service.

Because of this you won't accidentally discover it while you're out on a Saturday afternoon drive. I'm certain the location hurts their business as it has other failed restaurants that have occupied the same space in the past. But if you go to the trouble of finding it, you'll be happy you did. There are a few "Mexican" restaurants in this area of town, but this is a "Tex-Mex" restaurant, which I prefer. I won't go into describing each individual item on the menu, I'll just say the food is solid Tex-Mex. I lived in Houston and San Antonio for a total of 10 years, so I know what Tex-Mex is supposed to taste like. Chapala could definitely hold their own in South Texas. I think you should give it a try.

Sadly a soft option or corn option was not offered to us. Even though we dined around 1230, the restaurant was empty. Only one other table was occupied with guests. The hostess was even eating while working which didn't make for a very welcoming ambiance.
