Osha Mooka is a relatively new restaurant that has an ample amount of parking. There aren't many tables, but the seating is comfortable. One downside is the table space because of the way the table is set up. If you're ordering a lot of food like we did à la carte, it gets tight pretty quickly. Their premium sets probably help with this since everything comes stacked in trays and it would be nice if they stacked ala cart orders too
We ordered à la carte so we could try specific items. For apps, the cartilage chicken was yummy albeit small and the papaya fritter was good but didn't seem worth it for the price because it felt like we were just eating a lot of fried dough - most pieces were white, and then there were a few orange ones (sauce was good though). They also provide refillable pickled vegetables for the table, which helps cleanse your palate between bites. There are five different sauces and each person can choose three. They let you sample them first, which I liked - all of them were good and it really comes down to preference.
The cuts of meat were decent overall, and the scallops were a nice big size but it takes longer to cook. The udon was decent but the portion felt small for the price. Same with the garlic fried rice, it tasted good (could use more garlic) but is more of a sharing portion for two. The veggie platter could have had a better variety with more greens, and it was a bit awkward trying to fit the vermicelli into the soup moat.
They refill the soup, and although Tom Yum wasn't available, the coconut soup was good and was recommended by our server. We also tried the watermelon, pineapple, and milk Thai tea slushies, and the table liked the milk tea one the most.
The staff also do a great job explaining the menu for newcomers. The biggest area for improvement is the ventilation. The hood above our table didn't seem to be working well, so smoke from both our grill and the table next to us kept blasting towards us. It made the experience less comfortable and we left smelling strongly like the grill. Service was pretty slow at times, especially for the sauces, and plates weren't cleared quickly enough. With the smaller table space, it felt very cramped. Service from William was exceptional and made the experience better.
Overall, we still enjoyed the first time experience with this new style of Thai BBQ and hotpot. There's no cash discount, but they do offer a free milk Thai tea ice cream if you leave a Google review. Seating is limited to 2 hours. read more
