I came by on a weekday lunch, and my first impression was how everyone was dressed - the employees are all dressed in traditional Japanese attire. My friend and I ordered four rolls, including the crazy monkey and baked lobster rolls. If I were on the East Coast, I would have been disappointed, but given the circumstances, it was decent! The best sushi in Sioux Falls! Oshima was the first sushi spot I tried in Sioux Falls and it has become my favorite. I've already visited a couple of times with friends and I'm never disappointed. The restaurant is decorated in a way that you feel like you're in Japan! I loved the details the sushi bar had and the Osaka wallpaper in the dining area. I've traveled to Japan recently and would say Oshima offers both authentic and Americanized sushi. I love both! The first time I visited we ordered a boat since it had the best variety mix and chefs choice rolls. After the first bite I knew this was legit. The fish was fresh and the rolls were delicious. The presentation of the boat was also very eye-catching and cool. The second time I visited i ordered the ramen and roll combo which is $15, what a deal! My friend ordered two rolls and was told there was a special so she got a third roll for free. Our table was full and so were we. We were excited to try this place as it was known to be one of the best sushi restaurants in Sioux Falls. Started off strong with drinks and an appetizer, which were average. Ordered our rolls, which the waiter repeated back to us. 10 minutes later my companions rolls came, mine did not. 15 minutes later the waiter checked on us, and I stated I did not receive mine. We watched him re enter the order. Another 15 minutes go by, my companion had finished his dinner and I just received mine, no apology or discount. Rolls were average, not much flavor. I'm visiting out of state. We went because of the great reviews. However, as a vegetarian I was extremely disappointed. They only have the basic avocado or cucumber rolls . So I ordered the veggie yakisoba with added tofu. Tofu was an extra $3 for about 10 pieces of overcooked and soggy tofu. The noodles were soaked in sauce. It was not a traditional yakisoba. Also I was with 3 people and my entree came out 20 minutes after my friends food. Nobody liked their food and we are all out of state. Also the veggie tempura was fried like southern fried foods not with Panko. It was so greasy, I only ate one piece. Nicely decorated restaurant reminded me of some of the places we visited while in Japan. I visited on a Saturday night and it was very busy. I was taken care of in a timely manner and the server was kind and attentive. The food was... satisfactory. Everything was fresh and well prepared. I had a House Salad, Spring Rolls, Baked Lobster Roll and Mango Mochi to finish. Also, a Hot Sake. I'm not sure about the Sake. It didn't taste like it was full strength and it didn't feel like it either after I finished the whole bottle alone. The Salad was fresh and the Ginger Dressing very good. Spring Rolls were average. The Baked Crab & Lobster Roll was very good and different than any Roll I've had before. I have to say their selection of Rolls is pretty impressive and it was difficult to choose, especially when Ramen was also offered on the menu. For Sioux Falls, this is probably really good. The bad thing about the roll is that its pretty small for $14.50 I also tried a passion roll - salmon, mango and cream cheese inside then deep fried with chef's special sauce. $12.95 This was another good roll. The mango was not over bearing nor the cream cheese. The chef put just a little inside of both inside the roll. I really liked it as well. This is our new go to spot for sushi in SF! I had been browsing for some good eats for a while and Oshima seemed to be worth a shot. We dropped in on a Saturday night and we're seated quickly. Sushi place in South Dakota? It was probably one of the best meals we had during our cross-country road trip! The fish was surprisingly fresh, and very cheap. I mean they don't have the best sushi in the world, but they do guarantee your money value here. I never had baked lobster (crawfish) rolls before and they were surprisingly good. The crawfish meat was plump, tender, and juicy, and was good on its own. Dragon roll was very good. These two were recommended by the owner. The shrimp crunch roll that we ordered on our own was not that great--I really don't like the idea of scattered bread crumbs on rolls, looks and tastes very sloppy.
