I'd never heard of this restaurant, so I checked their Yelp reviews prior to ordering delivery via Uber Eats. I noticed that the owner was replying to reviews if a customer wasn't completely satisfied, which I appreciated, but what sold me to order was a reply to a rather nasty and silly review where a customer was making ludicrous complaints about the pizza (which looked fine in their pics). The business owner's reply was straight to the point and called the reviewer out on all of their negative reviews on other businesses. LOVED IT! So, as far as the food. We ordered two pizzas, two pastas, an appetizer and a vegetable. Very solid offering and we enjoyed our dinner. Wow, what a gem! We got here 4:30pm-4:45pm on a Saturday and there were a couple tables full. By the time we are leaving at 6pm, the place is pretty much full. It's a good place for a date with dim lighting, fabric tablecloths and napkins, and goblets for water. Decor is elegant without being overly fancy. The place has a fancy, upscale feel but plenty of people wore jeans and a few even had t-shirts. We tried the bruschetta on toast, the caprese salad, penne panna and I forget the name of what my boyfriend ordered but it had Gorgonzola and pistachio. The appetizer was fresh and delicious but a little small, the caprese salad was generously sized and big enough to share. The pasta though... oh my gosh! Definitely delicious, came out piping hot, and tasted light and fresh. Very good and a generous, filling portion. If I had to complain about anything I'd say the service was a little slow at times. My drink went empty for a while longer than I'd like, but overall the service was friendly and attentive. The story on their website is sweet, and we saw the owner making pizza. Food was great. Went for a family event and had a large group. Made reservations and arrived a little early. They seated us right away. Unfortunately it was a pretty busy time so we had to wait over 15 minutes before the server even acknowledged us let alone took our drink order. I'm not sure if she was over worked but seemed irritated and the vibe was off. There were 2 young people who kept walking through the restaurant and filling waters but they never came to our table and absolutely would not make eye contact. I'm not sure if they were new or just learning but hopefully they'll get it figured out for thirsty patrons. I wouldn't have minded a wait for the food but was kinda bummed we weren't able to chat over wine. Keep your people happy with drinks and the rest is forgivable. Food was served pretty quickly and was very good. If I go back it'll only be with one or two people and hopefully the service will be a little better. We dined here in a large group (10 people) for a birthday event and had a wonderful experience. As someone who has been to Italy, it's difficult to find good, authentic Italian food stateside, and this place does a good (but not exceptional) job. Service was prompt and polite and our needs were well attended to for food and beverages. Between the ten of us we split a number of appetizers, including grilled shrimp, bruschetta, and clams. The bruschetta was and clams were good, but the shrimp was astounding. A number of people in our party then had salads (I did not so I can't comment but they looked very good by restaurant salad standards). Our entrees included Pesce Del Giorno (fish of the day), ribeye, shrimp and lobster ravioli, two pizzas (including one gluten free), three seafood pastas (including one gluten free), and canneloni. All were well-enjoyed and well executed! Our desserts included gelato, spumoni, and sorbet. All in all, a very good Italian experience and would recommend. read more

I've eaten several times and it was great. Ordered a pizza tonight and it was awful! My family picked up our Saturday night dinner to go - we live 6-7 minutes away so I figured my pizza might cool off a little and I can stick it in the oven, if need be. I got there exactly when they said our meals would be ready and parked right in front of the door. The other three people had piping hot pasta dishes and my pizza was not even luke warm. The first inch of every slice was pretty much raw dough, the crust was burned , and when I picked up a slice, expecting a crisp wood-fired crust, the whole slice was floppy. It had hardly any pizza sauce at all, and the only flavor was the spicy sausage. A huge disappointment while I watched every say how delicious their meals were. I wish I could give this place five stars because the food was delish! Unfortunately the service was horrible!!! Arrived and had the choice in seating, the place was empty. Menus were dropped off and from that point on didn't get much attention. By the end of dinner the check was slightly tossed on the table and the waitress/owner walked away! For those who haven't been to Italy, this is the real deal. The food is completely authentic and full of native Calabrese flavor. Those who complain about slow service can drive down to the mall and strap on your feedbag at The Olive Garden or some other God awful chain. We have lived in Des Moines for 22 and just found this place. It will now definitely be a go to place for us. Everything was great! The only thing I could say for improvement is they give you so much calamari on the order you might run out of the yummy aioli, not that you really need it, it's great all on its own; well seasoned. Best calamari we've ever had! And the bread is very good, might be a bit better if slightly warmed. The salads were great, in fact the Insalata Primo is great with some calamari added; the lemon vinagarette goes well with the calamari (I know cheese and seafood shouldn't mix). On the surface it may seem to be higher priced than the surrounding area, but they have good sized portions and much better food than most in the area. They offer the full multi-course Italian meal, though unless you are sharing the pasta and main course I don't know how you could make it to dessert?! We stopped at pasta and got tsiramasu to bring home. My wife had mushroom and pancetta gnocchi and said that the gnocchi was "life changing". I had the spaghetti with seafood; some places you get a very little seafood. I had 5-6 huge shrimp, a dozen steamer clams and 1-2 Calamari, all perfectly cooked and combined in a great tomato sauce! Most of the reviews are very positive, the only few negative ones I've seen are about service. I give no credibility to those. Its a small place, not much staff, I could see a very needy/demanding diner feeling ignored when they are busy. You will get good polite service and have the best Italian food in the area so give it a try you won't be disappointed. read more

We came to try Osteria Da Primo as it was one of the top choices you see on Yelp in the Burien area. It's located in the central old downtown area of Burien and has a simple shotgun seating with a bar and kitchen in the back. Nice tables with table cloths and is something between a nice restaurant, bar and pizzeria. The menu is quite extensive and we looked through the menu looking for something special and ended up order a suggestion from the waitress for the gnocchi as she said it was delicacies while also getting the mushroom ravioli while splitting a salad. The salad was pretty good and I liked the dressing and it was quite enjoyable. We also got a glass of wine and enjoyed the bread and some olive oil to dip it in. The service was attentive and I could tell from the traffic that they do a good business on pizza to-go. I kind a felt I should get pizza, but thought I need to try the pasta to see how good this place really is. As we got our entrees, I was surprised at the size of the gnocchi as I expected it to be a delicate plate but found it to be more like baked lasagna that was huge and way more than I could ever expect to eat. It reminded me of a bunch of sauce, cheese, sausage and gnocchi lumped in a lasagna dish covered with cheese and baked in the pizza oven. The mushroom ravioli was more like I would expect as it seemed more delicately prepared that were tasty, but a bit on the salty side. Overall, we ended up finding the wine by the glass was $10/each and we ended up running up a $90 bill for two entrees, split salad and 4 glasses of wine. I found the price to happiness ratio to be a bit off. I think this might be better place to get some carry out pizza next time and reserve my Italian high end meals to my regular places in Seattle. read more

Long story short: I didn't even know this restaurant existed until my boyfriend's aunt telling us that this place belongs to her child's friend's parents. It is located right in downtown Burien with convenient parking lot (sometimes). I thought the portion was generous, and the taste is as good as you can get out of Italian food, right? May be I haven't tried enough Italian food to tell all of you which one is good and which one isn't because I, myself, think Olive Garden is good as well! BUT... it is a good spot to go to if you have a craving for Italian food and if you are lazy to drive anywhere else but want to remain in Burien. I came here twice: one was for the intro to Primo food and the second was for my boyfriend's aunt's son First Holy Communion Celebration. I enjoy the food. I enjoy the atmosphere. We had a delicious meal here last night. We started out with the caprese salad which had flavorful tomatoes and olive oil and creamy mozzarella. I had the shrimp and crab and lobster ravioli and my spouse had the pappardelle with sausage. The pasta in both dishes was cooked perfectly, and I liked the sausage, but it was a little too spicy for my husband's tastes. It wasn't so spicy, as complex. We plan on coming back to this place to try the pizza. Here are my complaints. We were the first customers for the evening and the employees were carrying on loud personal conversations which I felt detracted from the otherwise pleasant environment. My Italian boyfriend and I came here for dinner since we happened to be by the airport. We met the owner who is a friendly Italian man, and found out the name of the restaurant is named after his son Primo, which was pretty cute. The restaurant is colorful and cozy, the service was great, and the food was delicious. I ordered the spaghetti ai frutti di Mare- the tomato sauce was perfect and the seafood and clams tasted very fresh. My boyfriend had the wild boar and he enjoyed his as well. Decent, but not extraordinary. Finally made it to this place as we'd had it on our list for a while. We didn't have a reservation, so we sat at the bar instead of a table, as the place was pretty full at prime time on a Friday evening. We were in a hurry, so we ordered the penne estive and the ravioli with fig and gorgonzola filling. The penne was decent, the tomato sauce was alright and the mozzarella cheese tasted fresh. The ravioli, on the other hand, was not the best. There seemed to be an aftertaste that was offputting. (The couple next to us at the bar gave us their endorsement for the ravioli, so out could be our taste is different from theirs.) We want to come back to try the wood fired pizza, and hoping the place will redeem itself in our eyes. The biggest positive was the lone waitress working that evening. She was fantastic. read more

The crust was not too heavy and they had a perfect sauce to cheese ratio. I suppose it's because I simply don't believe in writing reviews after a single visit that may have gone wrong. I generally wait to see how the establishment handled a situation during and after my visit. But in order for a business to know something is wrong, you typically have to tell them. With that said, I hope my review can help shed light to people who are interested in dining at Osteria Da Primo. To start, Osteria Da Primo is an authentic Italian Restaurant. This puts them at an immediate disadvantage for people who walk in an expect spaghetti and meatballs because most people think of Olive Garden when they think Italian. It's not necessarily the persons fault, but you really have to have traveled to Italy to understand just how many styles of Italian cuisine there are based on region, ingredients available, etc. Osteria Da Primo is a gourmet Italian restaurant. They utilize the freshest available ingredients. They use countless varieties of seafood, meat, lamb, chicken, etc. They also import strictly Italian Wines. Osteria Da Primo is a restaurant owned by an Italian family. The husband primarily cooks while the wife primarily serves. Of course both of them do everything else in between while their kids typically reset the tables and keep the candles lit. With all of that said, here's my advice for you if you are a first time patron: Have an open mind when walking in. Seat yourself. If you aren't greeted immediately (which you generally are), understand that they are a small business being ran primarily by two individuals with occasional weekend helpers. Embrace the intimate setting and feel good about supporting a local mom and pop restaurant that blows restaurant chains out of the water. If they are busy, know that they are busy because people love them. Their food is absolutely incredible. Step out of your comfort zone and prepare to be amazed. Order wine you've never heard of and don't ask for "red" or "white" because you'll most likely get "the look". Their selection of wine is unbelievable. If you don't know what to get, ask for their recommendation. Their prices are appropriate. With a bottle of wine, a meal, a dessert, and a tip, you will most likely spend $60-$100 per person. (At least I do. I work hard for my money and love spending it on the highest quality food and drinks around!) Do NOT plan on being in and out in 30 minutes. In Italy you do not rush through meals. Every meal is an experience. Osteria Da Primo allows you to enjoy this same dining experience, yet they recognize Americans prefer to be in and out within an hour to an hour and a half. If something is not right, inform them. Don't be a jerk about it. They are humans and occasionally (RARELY) make mistakes. (I've gone there 15 times in just a few months and only once was something not right. They actually caught it before I did and it was fixed.) Most importantly, tell them Danny sent you! Odds are, I'll be eating there when you arrive. ;-) I give them 5 stars because they deserve it. I really enjoy this restaurant. First off, I love the pizza. There are so many styles, this is the way I prefer which is generally European. I am not a fan of deep dish. They have a nice variety so I always struggle on which to get. While I mostly stick to pizza, I have tried the other items and they are great. Lovely little place, sat down immediately without wait. I had a calamari starter which was cooked well and a good sized portion. For the main course I was pleasantly surprised with a differnt take on the chicken marsala. Its a light sauce, packed with all the flavor of a much thicker sauce. I paired my meal with potatoes which was delicious. The serving size was plenty and being light I felt that was a delightful meal leaving room for tiramisu and cappuccinos. First time at Primo, chosen by birthday girl's husband, his first visit too. For our first 15 minutes, we were the only customers there - a bit concerning - but everything went well. Fine selection of salads and secondi for us pasta-free diners (keto rules!), and the ravioli served to birthday girl was lovely. I had made friends with cingale (wild boar) on the recent Tuscan vacation and found Primo's better than my Tuscan experience: thick medallions, not shredded, in luxurious mushroom sauce. Grilled asparagus was just right. Tried my wife's chicken Diablo - very well seasoned, good balance of heat and lemon. The wine list was good overview of Italy, and the by-the-glass menu referred you to page-numbered labels and tasting notes in the by-the-bottle pages. Dessert list was long, attractive and all imported, but not in our dinner plans. The waitress was charming. And Chef came to our table as we finished, so we could promise to visit again. The staff was so nice and so was the chef who we got to talk to when he came out to use the wood fire stove to make our pizza. Watched it get put together, baked, and right to us piping hot. Ordered a couple of their 12" pizzas to be picked up, one of the pizza's was totally soggy in the middle and gave me an undercooked feeling so we didn't eat it.
