First you go someplace, you have a nice time, and the rose-colored glasses are on. Second time you go someplace, you don't have as good of a time, and the rose-colored glasses come off. That's the way it is. We hoped this would be our new holiday go-to. We loved the idea of a week-long menu during holidays. We took advantage of the Irish St. Patrick's Day menu, and we were excited to go back for the Easter menu. The Easter menu was also shown on their website as being a week long - so that's three more days from the day we went. When we got there, we spent a few minutes being discombobulated because we couldn't find any of the Easter menu items besides the pancakes (photo) and the drinks menu. In addition, the staff was being a big cagey about it. The menu was still featured on the website but turns out, we were eventually told, that they ran out of the ingredients for most of the items (which would be ham and pork, I guess) and the menu was shut down except for the drinks and the pancakes (nobody mentioned the pancakes and they weren't named in an Eastery way). So, folks, if you offer a week-long menu for one of the biggest holidays of the year, please get enough inventory. We know times are tough, but you did decide to do this and presumably know better after being open since 1979. Please take the holiday menu down from your website if it's not applicable anymore. Please put "subject to availability" on your flyer online if it's possible you will run out of inventory. Please be forthcoming and cheerful and apologetic that you don't have the holiday menu anymore, not defensive. Please tell your entire staff that you aren't serving it anymore. Non-wait staff. Why do you ask us what we want to drink, then tell us we'll have to ask our server? Just bring us water and be done with it. Wait staff. You seem like you enjoy your job, or used to, but are over-worked. That's too bad. We hope things get better. So, this will probably not be our go-to holiday restaurant after all. read more

I came by as really needed a chicken fried steak which is not an easy find in Seattle. But, I ordered it with 2 eggs over medium with hash browns and toast. I posted picture as couldn't wait so not a glamor shot- the steak and gravy was pretty good. A uniform steak and breading not Texas quality but I ate the whole thing. Packed on Thanksgiving for lunch, but still promptly seated for three. I love that they had Thanksgiving specials as well as the regular menu. Huckleberry has been around for as long as I can remember. The environment is cozy and homey. The service is always friendly and almost always excellent. Prices are generally reasonable. Food is always good. Now, keep in mind, this is an old restaurant and the demographic they cater to is often older, but they did revamp their menu and dishes to accommodate a younger crowd. They used to have some dishes that could literally have been served at a hospital, and now it all looks "restaurant". But even then, the food has always been good. Portions are always plenty - generally not monstrous, but not skimpy either. You'll leave full. You'll probably have a to-go box. Overall, whether you're from the area or stopping through, Huckleberry Square is a safe bet. Although, it gets really busy and there could be a wait. read more

I used to frequent this restaurant with my family as a little girl. I had not visited in decades so I was extremely excited to go back. The restaurant is exactly as I remembered it. The interior is cozy and reminiscent of restaurants in the eighties with solarium seating in the front. My hubby and I arrived at opening time on a Saturday and there was already a crowd in the parking lot, waiting to get in. The waitstaff was quick and professional...not as friendly or chatty as I remembered in my youth. The menu selection was ample and Hubby and I both ordered Huckleberry Mimosas to start off our morning. They were okay and we only took a few sips before setting them aside. The coffee is what one would expect at any diner (acidic and bitter). One cup is enough, unless you're recovering from a previous wild night. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, as I had been looking forward to it for a few days. The chicken fried steak had a really great initial crunch (which I always look for), the flavor was savory and the portion was large. The gravy was thick but it wasn't homemade. It had that "came out of a can" flavor. The hash browns were previously frozen but had a great crunch as well. The eggs really had no flavor. My husband ordered sausage and eggs and said the sausage was quite good. He also mentioned that the hash browns definitely came out of a bag. I took mine home as possible leftovers for later. Was it worth a thirty minute drive on a Saturday morning? No. It was simply a trip down memory lane. The prices are quite a bit higher (to be expected) and the food isn't as great as I remembered....but as a kid, maybe I just didn't have as much food experience. Would I go again? To be perfectly honest, probably not. There are so many other restaurants in the Burien area that have truly raised the restaurant bar to heights that Huckleberry Square may never be able to attain (and, yes, that saddens me). Despite the rush of Sunday brunch, the quality of the food and superb customer service at Huckleberry Square did not waver. We waited for only about 10 minutes for a table for 4. The restaurant definitely had that "diner" feel to it, with booth seating throughout. The menu is expansive, so there is sure to be an option for everyone. Our party was so happy with the food that we ordered, which included pancakes, hashbrowns, an omelette, and more. The main highlight was the chicken and biscuits (MUST TRY!). The only negative thing about our visit was that the waffle was too hard, as if it were overcooked. Our waitress was kind and attentive. She provided updates on the progress of out meal and checked in with us frequently. They were also on top of refilling our cups of coffee without us having to ask. We were met with kindness throughout our visit to Huckleberry Square. I also love how they have a "Giving Wall" where you can buy a meal for someone in need. We've been here twice in 2 weeks. It's that good. A very clean establishment with a very pleasant and courteous wait-staff. The Menu is broad and deep, whether you are looking for a breakfast that will also satisfy a sweet tooth, or a stick to the ribs luncheon/dinner meal. First time her I tried the Monte Cristo sandwich. Hands down it was one of the best I have had anywhere, ever. The French toast was prepared perfectly and not sogged and not dried up overcooked eggy. The hame and turkey were both sliced thinly as I prefer...so thin that you can really appreciate the flavors. In W Va, they would call this "chipped ham", shaved and piled high. The Swiss cheese was high quality w a real flavor, not just some generic white cheese w no flavor. All that plus a ramekin of genuine huckleberry compote to garnish the treat. The missus had the Huckleberry Turkey Supreme sandwich a great combo of turkey, bacon, cream cheese, lettuce/tomato on a ciabatta bread (not really focaccia as stated in menu...but better, IMO), and our guest had a huge pot roast dinner...so large that take-out box was needed. The second time, we tried the Florentine omelet, the Jalapeño curd burger (deep fried cheese curds, bacon, chipotle ranch!) and our guest had the huge open face hot turkey dinner. It's very family-friendly -- there are lots of high chairs available, a small kids' activity coloring page, and a solid kids' menu. My 18-month-old loves coming here. I love green beans, anyway, but they are easy to screw up if you're not careful. Now, I'm craving a big container of them! LOL. The huckleberry cheesecake is a marvel! The "slab" is huge and in between writing this, I take little bites and savor the berries and slight lemony taste. I'm coming back here in a few months to order this again! Slow and lack of attention. First off, hostess took a good 5 minutes to seat us and another couple. (It's 10:30am and they are not that busy). Waitress took another 10 minutes to come take our order. I went there when they open on Friday order bacon and eggs, white toast and hashbrowns. The bacon was so over cook and cold it must have been from the day before, the toast was cold and almost no butter, hashbrowns were over cook on top. the cook that was on duty on 2/13/2026 morning shift needs a lot more training. One of my go-to breakfast places. Their Chicken Fried Steak is amazing. The gravy is flavorful and the steak is cooked perfectly. They are excellent on eggs and hash browns and their huckleberry pancakes are divine. My wife loves the breakfast buritto with chorizo. The portions are very big and though there is usually a wait, they get you in quick. It is a very large restraurant. Service is always fantastic, and they strike a nice balance of getting your good quickly but not feeling like you are rushed when eating. I have only ever eaten there for breakfast so I'm not sure how their lunches and dinners are, but if breakfast is any indication, you'll be in good hands. read more

This a good diner type brunch spot in Burien. It appeared to be a local fave, as there was quite the crowd and a 20 min wait on a late morning Saturday. We were seated within the timeframe they quoted, and got a cozy table for two. Most of the tables were helped pretty quickly, ours was the exception. When we did get service, we jumped on ordering drinks & our breakfast. We love a good bloody mary, and this one really packed a good punch. Great flavor, pretty strong, not super crisp pickled veggies, but it worked. I would definately recommend the bloody mary. I ordered the Fractured Vegetarian Omelet. It was hearty, served with a pretty large portion of hashbrowns. It was good, nothing remarkable, but after the one-drink-buzz bloody mary, I just needed to get some food in me. I'd recommend this restaurant for a casual breakfast, if you're wanting standard breakfast fare. I did not try the huckleberry pancakes, so I'll have to come back. A lot of restaurants don't have this option!! I came by myself the first time and this last time I brought my family that flew in from California. It was about a 30 min wait on a Saturday but worth the wait. All of our food is was delicious. They waitress made sure to check on us constantly and refill our coffees.
