Not impressed at all. Attended a shower here and service was terrible. The calamari appetizer barely warm when it was served and there wasn't enough to go around the table. We asked for more, but were flat out told "no" by the waitress. Also, portions were extremely small for a party of 6 at each table everyone literally got 1 small chicken breast, two small pieces of potato and a small portion of pasta for the main course. When asking for more salad and pasta because there wasn't enough to go around the table, the staff was not friendly about it at all and had to check if it was ok. We were brought a smaller serving (which is fine) but nothing to serve it with. We asked for a serving spoon and the waitress looked at us like we were crazy. So, we resorted to using our desert spoons. Wait staff did not offer refills on drinks when the glasses were noticeably empty. We had to ask three times before finally getting a refill on soda. Not once was my water refilled and I just gave up on asking for a refill after the 4th time. I don't know what the host paid per plate, but it was too much. If they are going to be stingy about the amount of food each table gets, this place shouldn't offer family style service. They should stick to plated portions. Guests shouldn't leave a party hungry because of small portion sizes. read more

Had a BEAUTIFUL bridal shower! Service and food were excellent!!! The only reason for the 4 not 5 was their side room was incredibly hot- 75 degrees. They brought out fans but they didn't help much. The presentation was not the best, but the flavors were good. I decided to have the caesar salad and the grilled calamari. The caesar salad was overdressed, which made the greens a little limp. The grilled calamari were large and prepared nicely. I had it with a good squeeze of lemon. It didn't need the creamy sauce or the giardiniera, in my opinion. I also tasted the salmone con lenticcie, which was good. Overall, I'd say this place has simple and decent Italian cuisine with no frills. Definitely a decent option in the suburbs. read more

Went in for a nice dinner with a few friends. Immediately that staff were incredibly friendly. Jose was out server for the night, and he was very professional and friendly cracking jokes occasionally. The warm bread was a good start to the meal and was very popular with the table. We decided to get an order of the Fried Calamari as an appetizer to split between the five of us. It was a good size portion everyone had a good amount and I definitely recommend this appetizer for sharing. The Calamari was tender and not over cooked. The breading was nice and crispy and didn't fall off the calamari. Personally I loved dripping the Calamari in the Aioli that comes with the dish but you can't go wrong with mixing it with some of the delicious giardiniera. For my main course I decided to do half orders of the Scallop special and the Gnocchi pasta dish. The scallops where cocked perfectly and maintained a nice soft and tender texture with having a great sear to them. The sauce that accompanied the scallops was to die for and really complemented the scallops well and didn't overwhelm the taste of the scallops. The potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I have absolutely no complaints about this dish and would highly recommend it to anyone! For the second half of my main course I got the Gnocchi which is served with a there fresh homemade potato gnocchi, green peas, prosciutto and parmesan cream sauce. This dish like all the other was delicious and an absolute classic. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly and maintained its shape. The prosciutto and the peas really complimented the Parmesan cream sauce very nicely cutting down the heavy sauce with a nice refreshing flavor. During the course of our meal the staff was incredibly kind and checked in on us to make sure everything was prepared to our liking. We also had a visit from one of the managers during this time PJ. PJ was very professional and very friendly to us. His visit was short but much appreciated! To top off the night our group decided to order desserts. I ordered a single shot of espresso and the crème brûlée. The espresso was a nice dark roast and had an orange peal in the cup to add a new citrus flavor to the coffee. The crème brûlée was prepared nicely with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream on top. The sugar was caramelized beautifully and the custard was a lovely soft texture with a wonderful sweet taste. The staff is absolutely incredible and the entire group had a wonderful time. I definitely plan on returning to Osteria Ottimo in the future! read more

This place is the shiznit. This was one of my Mom's favorite restaurants when she was alive... and we've kept on eating here because it's so sublime. They're open during COVID and do a fantastic job of spacing out the tables. If you're lucky you will get Ephraim (or maybe Efraim?) as your waiter. We've been lucky enough to get him the last few times we've been in and he's just the nicest guy. He is personable, available, but doesn't hover and get annoying. Food is sublime. Everything is good. Seriously... try the pork chop, any of the pasta, the risotto is incredible, the salads, and try to not eat like 3 loaves of that bread. Drinks are stiff and reasonably priced. Great wine list- Just a great place in Orland. We will be back again and again. read more

The food quality at Ottimo was great, and the restaurant would survive in any large city such as NYC or downtown Chicago. This restaurant just happens to be in the middle of suburbia. For starters we ordered the fried calamari and asparagus salad. The lemon and honey vinaigrette dressing on the salad was great, and the breading on the calamari melted in my mouth, but was somehow crunchy (the menu says crispy). Either way it was the best calamari I have had. For dinner, we ordered the eggplant parmigiana and linguine frutti. The eggplant was layered between a great tasting mozzarella cheese, garlic and tomato sauce. The blended mix worked well to produce a flavorful dish. For the linguine frutti, the homemade pasta (that is what the web site says) was cooked to just the right amount, for a great tasting pasta. (Note to the head chef, that you may want to try white whole wheat flour.) The seafood and sauce also tasted very good. The service was excellent, as well as the portion sizes, since we had to take home some food. Also, the dishes were priced very reasonably, for the quality and ingredients used. For what we ordered, the only improvement I could recommend was the coffee. I found the flavor to be bland and weak. I expected something stronger, since the flavor and roast of the coffee did not compare to anything I had in Italy. Also, I did not have desert, since we were stuffed. The server was pleasant, attentive and answered our questions and took our orders. Appetizers Wife ordered: Torta Di Granchio Jumbo lump crab cake, arugula remoulade, sweet corn, and green onions She liked it. I ordered Mussels White wine garlic The mussels were not fresh and the white wine garlic did not disguise the flavor of the mussels. There were 3-4 mussels that had a bit of sand in them. I did eat all of them anyways. Best fresh mussels tasted to date were in France in a little town next to Nice called Hyeres and next locally was the Tin Fish (now closed). Dinner: Both dinners were served minutes after we ordered them. Wife ordered: Rigatoni Bolognese Meat ragu, tomato, parmesan. She liked it. I ordered: Pollo Vesuvio Half roasted Amish chicken, roasted potatoes, peas, garlic. white wine, oregano. Tasted like lemon chicken to me. Not Chicken Vesuvio. My father in law (RIP) used to make it. Noodle's restaurant in Jefferson Park, Chicago had the best Chicken Vesuvio. Little Joe's used to have good Chicken Vesuvio until they changed cooks a few years back. It was well done for Lemon chicken. The potatoes were roasted but partially raw and crispy (not cooked enough). That said used to waiting 30 minutes minimum for Chicken Vesuvio. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants from a long time ago. Hadn't been in a while and had occasion to eat out. The place met all my remembered expectations. Food is delicious as ever and we even asked the bartender for an off menu selection and they did great. The best part of our night here was the service. Disappointed . I usually have a nice meal here . But I finally came on Thursday when they have their Lasagna special . It came out cold , noticed as I was being warned not to grab the inner hit baking dish .. And when returned 10 minutes later it was burned , as was another guests , ( not to mention mine was passed over the head of 2 guests for me to grab . Or service wax sub par as well . Non attentive , no personality . She dropped the dessert menu , and 20 minutes later I had to get her attention ti say we didn't want any . 5 minutes later she dropped the check , yet again 30 minutes later I had to say " will you please take this " .
