Nice design and atmosphere. Meal started great with a lovely Pinot Noir and tasty garlic dip for handmade bread bites. It didn't go well from there. Mussels appetizer was just ok, pizza margarita was clearly undercooked, and the calamari was flat out spoiled (confirmed by 2 diners). We returned the calamari and declined to have it redone (suspecting poor kitchen hygiene). But the waiter decided nevertheless to bring us another calamari dish (with a different sauce), which we didn't touch, and add it to the tab. When we asked to have it removed, the waiter started arguing. Would not recommend this place or go back. read more

This is a spacious typical family styled restaurant. Valet parking in front. Bar upon entry with small snacking area. Up some steps and it's a huge finding space for large of small groups. And in the right a semi private party space. Further towards the back is another open finding space, classic brick walls and glass. The food was a decent portion. Had to take extras home. Well my husband loved himself some oysters and steak, twice we went and the steak, oyster dinner was great. Cocktails were good, my dinner was fine but my baked clams were charred the second time. Thought this restaurant would be good. I was wrong. The bartender mixed up my drink order and was surly when I complained about it. The food left a lot to be desired. Chicken was tough and tasteless and the staff (with the exception of our waitress) were nasty and appeared annoyed when we requested bread, etc. Via Garibaldi is not worth the aggravation. Sat down at the bar to enjoy a meal and beers during happy hour. I asked the bartender for a happy hour menu and ordered blue moon since they had it draft. New bartender comes over to tab me out. Beer was full price, and I ask him why. He says "if you want happy hour, you have to ask me for happy hour". I told him I asked for the happy hour menu with the original bartender (why arnt you honoring happy hour without asking). This place is hit or miss. I had the Polpo which was really good. 10/10 The Zuppa De Peche was brought out cold twice. Our server gave a lame excuse that "seafood cools off fast" and is cold by the time it gets to you. Seeing as it is swimming in what should be a hot broth, I highly doubt that. After all that, it was bland. 3/10 We had to chase down our server a few times because he asked how the food was and walked away before we even had a chance to taste our food. Couples night out. My take-away is this spot is about 3.75 stars. Rounded up for good measure. My wife called ahead to request an eggplant parmigiana, which Via Garibaldi doesn't list on its dinner menu. Our server made sure we got her request, which we appreciated. My veal Marsala was tasty although a little tough for veal. The Burrata we share was delightful but let's be honest, this is hard to mess up. My wife had a French martini she said was delicious. My Super Tuscan from the by the glass menu was quite good and paired well with the veal. We skipped dessert. Service was highly attentive, although the place was only about 20% full. After gratuity, we paid $170. That includes the "piss or the customer" credit card service charge, which I can't stand. read more

White Plains is definitely a very tough area to find a reservation last minute. Via Garibaldi was our last minute no other choice restaurant. However, even though it was our last choice it was definitely not a bad choice. The location was on a main street so they provided valet parking. Just pull up to the restaurant and you'll see a sign for valet parking to the right. This was definitely a plus because looking for parking in White Plains is like looking for parking in the city. The ambiance is upscale casual. The crowd was very mixed with dates, groups and families. The deco had that upscale vibe. They had multiple rooms with plenty of seating which is why they could accommodate for last minute reservations. The service was alright, but judging by the amount of waiters and waitresses there and the amount of tables, I'm sure our waitress had five tables to one person. So it was a bit of a wait to get our waitress attention. The food came out nice and fast. My wife likes chicken Milanese so she had to try that and I ordered the Chicken Padovano. First time trying a Chicken Padovano and it wasn't that bad, but I don't have anything to compare it to. It wasn't try and the plate with full of sauce. Would I try this place again? This review is based solely on my and co-workers Happy Hour experience. Went with co-workers for Happy Hour which runs 4-7 pm at the bar. They have a large bar and bar area with many high top tables that were not in use. The restaurant is huge with lots of dining areas. During our stay everyone but a few at the bar were dining outdoors. We asked the bartender if we could sit at a table in the bar and still receive HH menu and prices. He said no. I get it most places say at the bar only but when they have a huge bar area with empty tables it would have been a nice gesture. We would have been able to have better conversation and possibly stayed past 7 pm when we would have ordered off the regular menu. BUT WAIT... They offer an HH menu and a bar menu. We ordered from both. Two orders of meatball sliders both orders came with 3 small meatballs and lots of melted mozzarella and tomato sauce. How the heck do you serve meatball sliders without the slider bun? We questioned the waiter and asked him, "where is the bun?" The menu said sliders. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "that's the way the kitchen serves them." WHAT??? The calamari clearly stated on menu served with a Thai dipping sauce. The sauce served was a bowl of marina. So, I said to the waiter, "where is the Thai chili sauce?" He said he would go get some. It gets worse. We ordered what were supposed to be roasted chicken chunks with feta and oregano. What comes out?? A fried chicken cutlet sliced in several length wise pieces served with, you guessed it, marinara sauce. [see my photo] I reminded the waiter we ordered roasted chicken, and what the menu described, and this is not what we got. The waiter said he would check with the kitchen and that was the last we saw of him. I could go on about the calamari being chewy, the meatballs spongy and not good, the cutlet was tasteless even with the marinara sauce. With all the places we could have chosen for a co-worker's milestone celebration we were all highly disappointed so would not return. The reason for two stars is at least the prices were reasonable. Cocktails are $10 served in smaller glasses. The Lemon Drop cocktail was decent, others enjoyed their drinks so points for that. Regular cocktails were served in larger martini glasses, but the price was higher, so we stayed with what we ordered. Had we had better food, we would have stayed longer and ordered off the regular menu. If they are under new owners or management, please make sure your kitchen knows the bar and happy hour menu and serves accordingly. read more

It was crowded for a Saturday night so I would recommend making a reservation. The website has you fill out a form for reservation but I made one easily through Open Table. For apps we started with the baked clams oregonata and the octopus. The clams were fresh but lacking in flavor for me and were left in the broiler a bit too long. The octopus was tasty but also left a bit too long under the broiler that it had a dark char. For the main course I had the chicken padovano. I was a little surprised that the chicken came with quite literally just the chicken. No vegetable or potatoes. The portion was large but would be nice for it to come with something else. The cognac sauce was delicious and the chicken was well seasoned. My friend got the lobster ravioli. The pasta was filled nicely and paired with a tasty sauce. Reminded me of a penne al vodka meets a lobster bisque. The wine list is also pretty extensive but it pretty pricey. There are not many bottles under $100. The waitress and staff were all super attentive. Checked in on our meals, filling water and wine glasses, etc. always appreciate an attentive staff! The ambiance of the restaurant is great, the service is great. Music of course is Italian, so no complaints. The meal had great flavour and drinks excellent. The issue came with the main course, as the food had a metal wire in it, which the waiter said was from either cleaning the pot or from cleaning the grill. This really spoilt the evening and dinner. The restaurant did not charge us for that dish but did say this has happened before. This was a sad realization for which the flavors of the meal was present and most appreciated. I should have taken a picture of the wire. I still recommend the restaurant as the meal and flavors was there, but quality control plagues the service. read more

Wow, in all the years of doing reviews and dining out I have never been around an employee this bad! My office had our holiday dinner at Via Garbaldi this year. Inside is nice, but near the bar is extremely cold. We needed to keep our jackets on, and older people in our party were very uncomfortable. Our table was not ready when we came in, so we waited near the bar for over a half hour. The bartender was one of the worst employees I have ever came across. Rude, rude rude! There was 10 of us waiting for drinks. The bartender was only servicing the one side of the bar, we had the entire other side, but were being ignored... a woman in my party waved to him and he got mad. He looked back and said he would get to us when he could... several minutes later and he still did not come over. Another person in our party walked down to the other side of the bar to speak with the bartender. He snapped and said he was busy, but he was not making any drinks at the time, nor was he taking orders... a few minutes later he came down our way - another person attempted to place a drink order and the bartender said "you have to talk to someone else!", we explained to him that we wanted to get a drink from the bar. He looked at us in disgust, asking how many of us there were. We said 10 and he said again "you need to speak to someone else!". Now our group got mad, one asked why we were not being served and he said "fine what do you want?". Several coworkers and I decided to not order anything from him due to his attitude, but others did order drinks. When we got to our table two of them sent their drinks back because they lacked any alcohol (we belive they were made very weak because he was upset.) To top things off, the same bartender kept coming over to the table with a nasty look on his face the entire night. It made a lot of us so uncomfortable and ruined the mood. Not accommodating at all. Was willing to let a large party walk out with no problem instead of allowing us to order off the menu instead of the prefix menu, which we didn't want. Then overcharged us for 5 drinks when only 4 were ordered. Terrible place. I don't know how they are still in business with the way they treat people. And pay attention to how combative the owner is in his responses to negative reviews. That is an indicator of the general demeanor there. The place was completely empty on Mother's Day at 12:30pm which should have been my first clue that something was off...I have never written a negative review of a restaurant but this experience was so upsetting that I felt the need to let people know. Italian restaurants and culture are all about family and this owner allowed a family of 13 on MOTHER'S DAY to walk out without accommodating them in some way. This was our first time here, came for a double date. We decided to eat inside and it was just us and a birthday party in one of their private rooms. We ordered oysters, charcuterie and the calamari de garibaldi. All of which was good. Great flavor on the calamari although a little saucy. For dinner we got the chicken francese, veal marsala, sea bass and chicken Scarpiello. Dinner was so good. Everyone loved their entrees. Service was good. This was my usual go-to spot if I wanted good Italian food around Westchester County. The food here has always been great and service here makes you feel right at home. The last time I came with a friend I noticed they started offering family style 10 course meal ($55 per person) which was such an amazing deal we couldn't resist! It included: 5 appetizers (burrata, fried calamari, spedini romana, oceanica, shrimp incazati, pizza), 2 entrees (fioreti rustica, mixed grilled lamb chops and skirt steak) and dessert. Our party of 54 sat in the Royal Room. We selected the menu beforehand to make sure we had a variety including being able to provide a number of options for all the folks with dietary restrictions (i.e. gluten, nut and dairy free and vegetarian folks). The food was outstanding, the garlic dipping sauce with the bread set the bar high right out of the gate, and the apps and entrees and desserts all were fabulous. It was the perfect amount of food without any wasteful leftovers. Pacing was a tiny bit slow, but I suspect it was because the food was being made in real time as everything felt freshly made and not like it was sitting under a heat lamp. I would absolutely go back to order off the menu. The prices were astonishing reasonable for the quality of the food and a private room! if you are looking for a spot for a large event I highly recommend Via Garibaldi. read more

Many reviewers try to balance their comments with both positive and negative comments. I cannot find anything to say about out experience last evening at Via Garibaldi other than BRAVO. I must caveat my comments slightly because we were a large group of 25 in their private room with a preset meal of charcuterie, Caesar salad and pizza (4 types), but our experience was so wonderful and so delicious that I am confident in saying that VG is terrific. First of all, Elsa who organized our evening is a true professional who advised us perfectly on how we should handle a somewhat complicated evening. The entire staff provided us with perfect service and the food was amazing. I consider myself an expert on Caesar salads and VG's was excellent. We ordered 18 pizzas which were not only served beautifully and hot, but delicious. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Via Garibaldi. read more

I started with the crab cakes app. For dinner I had something from the special menu which was a spaghetti with shrimp and asparagus. It had so much flavor. Then Tartufo for dessert. Love at first taste. I had a wonderful filling and tasty meal. My eyes were way larger than my stomach. I enjoyed the pappardelle and Antonella pizza. The sauce was very flavorful, pasta perfectly cooked, meal well and warm, the pizza crust fantastic from a brick oven, the olive oil seasoned dip for bread was a unique tinge of spice ( slight red pepper is my guess). The salad with the meal excellently crisp and fresh. The service was very friendly and attentive though not overly bothersome, a good balance of willingness to serve and let one enjoy. The bakery..... oh my goodness. Don't look at it on the way in. Thank you I missed it. On the way out, after a full belly, the temptation........ was easily conquered. The cookie I did have at the end was a perfect treat. I'd suggest even if you just came here dessert you'd be so happy you did.
