What we disliked the most was the unacceptable, rude and nasty comments coming from the young female hostess. I heard her call a elderly customer a liar. Overall unpleasant dining experience. We and another couple seated after us waited over 20 minutes for our order to be taken. The other couple were obviously upset and left. A server finally took our order and said I am going to take your order for your server. We ordered and our server came out with an order, however not our order. Our experience continued to get worse. We went for an Irish coffee and a baileys and coffee at lunch. The server brought 2 coffees and 3 - 1 ounce shots instead of a coffee drink. $35. Then I asked the manager how many ounces their shots are. He said 1 1/4 oz., which they weren't. We had breakfast here for 3 straight days and dinner once when we stayed at the hotel (Mokara) in May 2015. The breakfast is a la carte and just OK. The dinner was better, but not great. The drinks, we didn't find all that great and the 4 that we tried were VERY sweet. They do have a GREAT outdoor area on the Riverwalk and in our opinion, it is the best 100' of the Riverwalk. It looks out onto the Omni la Mansion de Rio and that is a beautiful hotel. Compared to a lot of the spots along the Riverwalk that we ate (aside from the Omni la Mansion's restaurant, which is called Canarias and The Esquire Tavern) this is BY FAR the best place and I would rate it 5 stars. The ceviche was gross. The drinks were way too sweet. The Caesar salad was OK. The bacon is consistently overdone and rubbery. The smoked salmon bagel with trimmings was good. Came in to grab a quick breakfast. I ordered the breakfast special, which consisted of two eggs, breakfast potatoes, blueberry sage sausage, and toast. The service was sub par; we did not get our waters refilled once during breakfast and the food took 20 minutes to arrive. For the price, the breakfast was only "okay." We stopped by here to try their oysters as their patio seemed inviting and it was a beautiful day out. We were seated quickly but had to wait a few minutes before being greeted. The hostess came by and filled our water glasses as the server had not been by yet. We just ordered a couple of signature cocktails (the Ostra margarita and paloma) after our server recommended them. I wasn't very impressed with their "fresh juice," it wasn't as fresh and refreshing as I had in mind. We ended up just ordering a dozen raw oysters (4 Canadian, 4 East Coast, 4 Gulf). We never knew Canadian oysters were such a thing so we wanted to try them. We both agreed that the Gulf were the best. Overall, the service started off slow but after the delay, the experience was nice. I would come back and try the lobster roll, which our server also recommended. I'd probably stick to a glass of wine instead of ordering a house cocktail. read more

Approached them for a table or Bar Service Saturday night December 15, 2018. There was room at the bar. They told us they could seat us but would be unable to take our order for an hour. They were too busy to take care of us. We had dined there the previous day for lunch and it was enjoyable. The young high school aged girl was not too adept at customer service. It is difficult to understand why restaurants continue to staff their greeting function with inexperienced staff. If you need to go here, go for lunch. If you would like to have dinner, I would suggest you seek a different restaurant, any restaurant. read more

We were there Sunday evening. It was approximately 9:20 and they close at 10:00 so I guess the staff was anxious to get home. After food delivered, waiter never checked on us. We ordered the mussels, ceviche, glass of wine and a margarita. The mussels were terrible. Very small with no taste. If the waiter ever asked us how it was we probably would have ordered something else. The ceviche was very mediocre at best with what seemed like store bought chips. The margarita was okay if you like them sweet. The glass of wine was $18 and the least expensive on the menu and very average. Nice patio on the river walk but if you are looking for good food I would look elsewhere based on the appetizers we ordered and the sub par service. read more

I give it 2 stars mainly because of their martinis! Their food is 1 star worthy. Nice location along the Riverwalk. But that and their drinks is pretty much all they got going for them. We (party of 2) went there because of their reviews but our mussel and chorizo appetizer was way too salty and had a distinct funk to it. Don't have the clam chowder it tasted like nothing but cheese and butter we sent it back. We ordered two steaks and my ribeye was overcooked. I had asked for rare it was easily medium well but decided to eat it anyway as I had to wait 45 minutes for it to arrive and I was hungry. It was really tough. Didn't eat the whole thing. The other steak was ordered medium rare and it also came out medium well. If you're gonna sell ribeyes for $41 a pop make sure your cooks know how to grill a steak!!!! We had breakfast and dinner out of convenience of staying in the Mokara. The waiter struggled to name available beers, ignored my mention that I am a vegetarian and brought salad full of bacon. Food-runners were shoving the food on the table with little effort to re-arrange plates on the table. The list goes on.. Kitchen is not far behind. Beat up dishes that are worthy of a tourist trap. Food came out either over-salted (potatoes) or overcooked (eggs Benedict). Dinner choices seemed all to use some form of flavored mayo for sauce. Enjoyed our food. Our waiter was friendly and knew the menu & made recommendations. We ordered calamari as an appetizer that we enjoyed, especially the crispy noodles underneath the nicely prepared tempura style calamari. We also enjoyed the really good French bread before our meal. The salt crystals on top of the quenelle if butter was a hint to the quality of the entrees to come. We ordered the Blackened Redfish and Snapper Valencia. Both were great. The fish was not over cooked and the sauces were flavorful but did not overpower the fish. This was a nice dinner in a nice atmosphere. We chose to sit inside because of the seasonal cricket invasion. Unfortunately it was increasingly noisy as people at the next table drank a lot of wine and a group at the bar that was very well behaved but their voices carried. An Austinite friend of mine visited San Antonio for the very first time on a Sunday evening and we were both looking for an intimate, serene, and obviously delicious restaurant to wine and dine at. We originally had plans to visit another restaurant but the restaurant (whom shall be unnamed for this review) was at full capacity and told us they'd call us when a table was available (but never did. BIG BOO!) so we decided to go on the beautiful Riverwalk and find a restaurant there instead. My friend who never has been exposed to the Riverwalk, stumbled, out of pure curiosity, upon Ostra! And me, being semi-new to San Antonio, decided 'why not!' They seated my friend and I right away. (BIG PLUS!) The restaurant was packed due to the 2013 BOMA Southwest Regional Conference (I think) or merely because Ostra is a both popular and highly raved establishment? I say both! Upon entering, I realized this restaurant was definitely more on the upscale side. It offered dimmed lighting (intimate: check!), a huge bar with seating in the heart of the restaurant, as well as tables and booths to sit throughout. We were able to carry a conversation without shouting our words so this was great. The menu had a vast selection of seafood items! I picked the Jumbo Scallops and my friend ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bass. Before ordering our main entrees, the very attentive and courteous waitress asked us if we would like to accompany our dinner with wine. I don't dine without wine! So we ordered the Zapata Malbec and it was on friggin' point with my liking and entree. The Jump Scallops were really, really great. Perfectly seasoned and the noodles that came with it was a nice added side item. I had a chance to try my friend's entree and on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the bomb diggity and 1 being the shit-ggity), I would rate it as a 5.5. For my entree, I would rate it as a 7. Reason for the missing remaining points was because of the price. Our entrees were about $30 each and even though I was well-aware of it being an upscale restaurant, I still thought it was a little pricey. However, the incredible service and overall experience pulls it up to a 8.5 for sure. What's a wining and dining experience without the best part? DESSERT. Get the Tres Leches! Although on the small side, I enjoyed every single bite. Next time, I want to try the Vanilla Cream Brulee! In all, give this AAA four-diamond, exquisite cuisine a try if you love delicious, pricey seafood with fast, friendly service! P.S. It is located within the Mokara hotel so the restrooms are outside of the restaurant in the hotel lobby. Very clean and fancy. :) read more

DO NOT GO THERE! !! Food was terrible how can you screw up shrimp scampi? Hostess was a dutche bag asking if we made reservations when we got there, when there was barely anyone there. Waiter Akran was slow, unfriendly and forgot some of the orders. Couldn't get him to tell him he forgot our drinks because he was nowhere to be found. Toward the end we had to hunt him down for the bill and when he did, he came asking us how everything was and took off quickly before we can even respond.
