    Pork Schnitzel
    Eric B.

My wife and I headed downtown a couple of hours early before a show at the Majestic Theatre so we could grab dinner, and Jots at the historic Gunter Hotel, right across the street, was an easy choice. It was our first time visiting, and since it was a Thursday around 5 p.m., the restaurant was quiet with only two other couples dining. It made for a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to start our evening. My wife ordered one of their specialty cocktails, which came topped with basil oil drops. The presentation was eye-catching, and the aroma alone was worth the order. I had to try a sip, and it was excellent. I went with a Hefeweizen myself, and it paired nicely with the meal. For dinner, my wife chose the pork schnitzel, and I went with the Apple & Sage Texas Hen. She really enjoyed the schnitzel, perfectly cooked, served over a bed of spaetzle, and complemented by an incredibly flavorful gravy that she couldn't stop talking about. My Texas Hen was beautifully plated and even better to eat. The meat was tender and juicy, served over creamy mashed potatoes and topped with a delicious apple compote. I absolutely loved every bite. If you're headed to the Majestic, I highly recommend arriving an hour or two early and having dinner at Jots. You won't be disappointed! And if you still have room after dinner, there's a charming little bakery next door with some amazing pastries, perfect for a sweet finish to the night.

Great restaurant inside the Gunter Hotel. Very cool vibe, and the food is very good. We had dinner before a show at the Majestic and enjoyed the prefix pre show meal. I highly recommend enjoying a meal here.

Never have I ever paid $31 for a hamburger, but also, never have I ever been treated to such an elevated service experience at a restaurant. Jots is part of the new multi-million dollar remodel of The Gunter Hotel. They told us mine was their first-ever reservation, so they really rolled out the red carpet. Our server, Juan, took care of us very well. Our water glasses were never empty. When I told him a family member had worked as a server in that hotel back in the 1940s, he told the manager and she came over to hear the story (and to tell some she had heard about this historic place). The burger was good, and the fries were really good--perfectly seasoned and crunchy. Our table was treated to two desserts, on the house, to celebrate being their first reservation. They've been open for a while, but I guess we were the first to call ahead and reserve a table. Being right across the street from The Majestic, this is a great option for theater-goers who want a nice meal before their shows.

Beautiful decor and relaxed ambiance. The food did not amaze me. I got the pork schnitzel and it was okay not great. Service was great, the staff is welcoming and attentive. I will go back to try a different dish.

Joshua's service was amazing! The food was on point, and I'd definitely recommend it for a night out or even a date.

The short ribs were excellent, but the overall experience fell short. Service was slow, and while our server was kind, the rest of the staff was disappointing. The $30 valet charge for restaurant guests also feels unreasonable, especially when many other hotel restaurants offer complimentary parking. The restaurant and hotel both have a lot of potential, but the customer experience and overall hospitality are currently lacking, which takes away from what could otherwise be a great dining experience. The restaurant itself is very pretty and I loved the new look but unfortunately it was a miss and I wouldn't return.

In the lobby for checkin today, I had an instant headache because the fragrance was so strong. At that point they informed us that there is some additional fee per day on top of the already pricey room, a fee that they never disclosed before today. We continued upstairs, and I could hardly breathe in the elevator it was so scented. When we got to the room it was also heavily fragranced. I tried to call the front desk, and the phone in the room didn't work reliably. Our call dropped several times. They offered box fans for us to air out the room. However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars. The manager eventually heard our concerns, responding to a secondary issue with cigar smoke in our room after leaving windows open - their recommendation- to air out the room. They found us a different accommodation and made it more than fair and comfortable. Why not 4 stars? Because it took the entire first day to be resolved.

For a starter we shared the cornbread with another couple and it was plenty for 4 people. If you are from out of town and looking for some Texas-shaped vittles or just want something substantial to stretch your meal I recommend it! Very tasty and filling. For my main I had the scallops with creamed corn risotto. It was a dainty portion but the flavors were nice. My husband had the short rib tagliatelle which he loved. It was very rich and filling. We had the buttermilk pie again for dessert and this time it tasted sweeter than I remembered. It was good but we couldn't finish it. Idk if it was my tastebuds or if it was different. Checked Yelp for dinner suggestions so Doc drove us to the paid lot next to where all the Cinderella lit up carriages drawn by horses were lined up. It seemed the boats going up and down the River portion of the Walk were busier. While we were walking I had my eyes open for a table with a view. We stopped at Four Brothers. The receptionist went over suggestions on the menu on her outdoor podium. Cornbread in the shape of Texas, shareable items like Dino ribs for $82, plus Pork Shank and ice tea completed our order. Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. This dish used cork screw shaped pasta and it was moist and not stuck together. I had to share a photo of it with Sweetie who is in Tokyo right now. Doc liked the pimento for the cornbread. As it was almost 9 pm we decided to pass on the boat ride but just walk on the other side with shops and more eateries. We're back on the road again tomorrow to Arizona.
