1st time here thought I try it out. The inside decor is nice reminds me of old town San Diego. Service was very friendly I ordered two chicken tacos with rice and beans with guacamole my friend ordered a torta. Portions are big my tacos tasted great they were filling the rice was also good I didn't eat the beans so not sure how they tasted. Friend said the torta was great. There chips and salsa was also good. They give you a free soup of the day on some meals that's was really good. Overall a great experience. read more

My first visit here, though I've lived in Walnut for nearly 20 years. Previously, I was accustomed to driving into Los Angeles, 30 miles away, for good Mexican food...and for the second time in two months, I found a local gem. The service was exceptional; I was greeted at the door promptly and with warmth. The chips and salsa came out immediately and my server was there very shortly thereafter. My server was attentive and personable throughout. I ordered an enchilada dinner, which came with a nice noodle soup (I forget what it's called). I also ordered a side of guacamole (note: big enough for two, so I ferried most of it home). The food was a sensory delight There were Mexican ballads playing in the background; I arrived to Sabor A Mi. The stream of tunes was such that the occasional commercial was hardly a hiccough. This place is just a consistently great place to go for Mexican food. We ordered our usual Hollenbeck burrito, shrimp diablo (with alternate lemon and garlic sauce,) and barbacoa. Mind the salsa, it's hot and I don't know why, but it always surprises us. lol But it's delicious. These three left plenty of left overs for 3 diners. First time customer to Osuna's. Stumbled upon the place since my workplace in around the corner. I came in on a Saturday around 12:00pm, the restaurant wasn't very busy yet there was a guy waiting for his takeout food on a bench next to me. As I approached the counter, it took a few minutes for me to be noticed as the women were in the middle of cooking. I asked to order to-go and to see a menu since I did not see any take-out menus at the front. The wait took a good 30 minutes. I ordered the fish ceviche and the sope appetizer. For drinks, I ordered the horchata. Unfortunately, the food was below sub par for me. The fish ceviche didn't have a bad odor but to be honest, for the amount of time I spent waiting for my food or should I say the amount of time they spent "cooking" my food, I expected more. The texture of the fish was not in pieces but in some kind of fish mush. There was not much lime nor taste since all I could taste was salt. Way too salty. Every portion I ate, I could feel my blood pressure rising. The tostada that came with my ceviche was oily and stale. No thanks. The sope appetizer consisted of 2 sopes with the "works". You get 2 choices of what meat you want your sope made. I ordered the carne asada and the barbacoa. Flavor on the meat was okay but the sope base was soggy and saturated with a red oily liquid. It was such a sopping mess. Not very appetizing. The chips had a good crunch but how can one really mess up on the chips? The only reason I gave 2 stars was for the horchata. The drink was creamy and flavorful and I actually enjoyed it. Overall, I probably won't return. In all honesty, I should have just drove the extra miles to eat at Taco Nazo. read more

This place just got really expensive and now that Albertsons is gone, the whole area looks deserted... So expensive, that a side of sour cream is $2?!?! Avocado $3?!?!?!?! BUT, they still have the best rice and refried beans in town! For a large side of rice (which isn't very large), it's $8 and a regular side of beans is $4. Now, that's freakin' expensive! Yea, I know wtfuh am I buying rice and beans for, just get it out of the package or harass my bf's family lol. In all honesty, their rice and beans are really delicious. Heck, when you crave it, you crave it. (Also, they have one of the most porky-fatty-great-pigs-of-fury carnitas ever) The service is a bit funky, usually it's pretty darn friendly and other times it's like, who hit you with a chile relleno?! The most recent trip I bought an asada torta for Goose and all veggies must be on the side (he doesn't eat veggies and you're paying for it, so I get to eat it), the lady taking my order said, "You want ALL the veggies on the side?! I will see if they can do that.. Sigh..." It was the most off putting conversation ever, but I let it slide because there was a slight language barrier... I don't really get all the people going gaga over Osuna's lobster burrito. I think it's pretty average. I mean just because there is lobster in it, doesn't automatically make it the bomb! The $16 dish comes with rice and shredded lettuce and the burrito is covered in some red ranchero sauce with bell pepper bits in it. The inside of the burrito has chunks of lobster, bell peppers, rice, and altogether is pretty mushy. I wasn't actually 100% sure if all the meat was lobster because some of it actually looked and tasted like shrimp to me. Anyways, not being that big on wet burritos (I like to hold my burrito), I found it hard to enjoy this one like the other yelpers had. I also tried their flautas which I thought was wrapped too thick. The really good flautas have thin, crispy shell that's almost egg-rolly and this one was the opposite. It tasted okay, though. We get Osuna's Menudo everytime we come south from Sacramento because it has always been the best tasting Menudo we have found anywhere! On Saturday 3/19/2022 we bought 8 containers full to share with family, but this time the Menudo was so spicy hot we couldn't eat it without watering it down substantially which of course ruined the taste. Our family have been going to this place for over 15 years. We love the food and the service. If your looking for authentic, homecooked mexican food. This is the spot! About 3 weeks ago my son dropped his wallet. We came for dinner and asked to see if by any chance anyone turned in a wallet. The waitress who served 3 weeks ago cane to our table with our son's wallet and told us she has been waiting for someone to pick it up. Our son had $170 and every dollar was still there. We were amazed and thankful that there are still honest and kind people out there. So please, if you're reading this review, Osuna is a family owned with great food, great price and great service. Gotta admit it was the "Happy Hour" sign out on the street that brought me in. Am I the only one a little off-put by overly enthusiastic greetings when I walk through the door of an establishment? "Welcome, welcome amigo!!! Please, sit anywhere!!! etc. etc." Ugh. Considered walking out, but I'll walk through fire for $1.25 beers and $2.25 margaritas especially considering I just came from perusing the animal shelter, and a stiff libation was definitely required to remove the memory of so much heart strumming. The margaritas were almost too potent. After my second, I definitely required food if I was going to get behind the wheel (and no, I don't have one of those court mandated breathalyzers, although after my parole officer reads this, who knows...) Ordered two fish tacos and was pleasantly surprised. For around $3 each they were much larger than your average street taco, and just as tasty. The batter was light and fluffy. Pickled red onion was a nice touch. Luckily, the service wasn't as overbearing as the initial greeting: our server was prompt but nothing akin to a helicopter. Will definitely come back whenever I need respite from my occasional mind-numbing Pasadena-Walnut commute. No wonder Walnut is trying to block a stadium. I read a review for one of their other locations and I just had to give in and get my pork burrito fix. Enter the Hollenbeck special. It's too big really, I shouldn't even order it, but who am I kidding I don't even share it. I just eat it and put it in the fridge and repeat this process til nothing remains but my fork's scrape marks on the plate. Sometimes not even that. I have a tendency to lick plates when I am in the privacy of my own home and there is pork chili verde sauce(other sauces evoke similar behaviors but I am pretending to be lady like)involved. The burrito has layers of shredded pork, beans, rice and then they in case it in cheese and sauce, it's delicious! My family used to order the Sonora special(a bigger version) and we'd eat it while we watched movies together. It even makes appearances at most family functions. It's a nice option for a pot luck. BAD Service!!!! Unhappy waiters/waitresses= bad service. We came for the lunch buffet a couple weeks ago and it was really yummy, so we decided to for dinner here tonight. Boy was that a bad idea, we were seated promptly, waitress took our drinks promptly. It took her about 10 minutes to bring our drink, by then we were ready to order. But she just dropped off our drinks and walked away. So we waited another 10 minutes thinking she will be right back. Nope, she just pretended to run around the restaurant like she is really busy. So we finally flagged her down, she told us to wait a second, and she walked off again. We saw her cleaning tables, serving other customers food, etc. we were getting upset, and start waiving at any of the staff, but they all pretended not to see us, my husband was yelling 'order please' but no one came. I love me some chicken enchiladas from Osuna's. They even come with soup, but I save my space for the enchiladas. My husband sons and I have been going to Osuna's since they first opened and have watched this little gem grow over the years. We always have great service and food. Osuna's is my family's go-to place for fish tacos. I actually didn't like fish tacos when I was a kid. My, what a stupid child I was. Fish tacos are SO GOOD. Especially from Osuna's! This is a nice, sit down Mexican restaurant.. what it looks like inside definitely does not match up what it looks like from the outside. Service is always very friendly and quick. Complementary and addictive chips and salsa served with the meal. The food is definitely more than a few steps up from the Taco Bell in the same plaza. This place is your standard Mexican restaurant. The food is good, the atmosphere is good and the service is good. I usually get the Hollenbeck burrito and it is tasty. It does not come with any sides but it doesn't need to because it is huge. My boyfriend usually gets the carne asada tacos and they are also tasty. I am really disappointed to see that they have a C grade. Over the months I was truly loving this restaurant; the people, the food and atmosphere. The past time eating, last Friday, I was sitting at a table close to the door and saw the grade. It's placed directly under the lighted "open" sign. Everytime I come here I get the same thing, the legendary Hollenbeck burrito! I always try and save up my appetite to try and finish the thing but never can...on the brightside I can take it to work for lunch. The restaurant is filled with vibrant colors and Mexican decorations. Prices range from $5.99 to $15.99 depending on what you order. I'm a huge fan of their breakfast & Sunday brunch. Well i would have given this place 5 stars but i went for a second time here and it did not compare to my first visit. My first visit was great the waitress was nice and friendly and really attentive the food was great and the horchata was sooooooo good and it was fresh i loved it and the torta i got OMG it was good. The second time we came the waitress was horrible she wouldn't come check on our drinks and the food seemed like it took forever, but the food was worth the wait. When we got our check i put the money in right away and she never came to pick it up, my hubby said we should just walk out shes not coming (joking of course) but she was talking to another table i guess she knew the ppl and all the waiting i got the attention of another person walking by and she took it for us. Review #100!! Okay, I've been eating food from Osuna's for maybe 10 years. It's close to our house; and we LOVE LOVE it! On top of the food being very good, the service is 10 out of 10. The owner (or son of the owner?) usually is there, and is very engaging/ attentive! THAT is how a restaurant is done! So much respect for standing front and center and being the face of your restaurant! I'll be coming here for my shrimp burritos for as long as they'll make them for me. They are amazing!! Yummm..que sabor! Now this is the kind of Mexican food I'm talkin' about! After a disappointing Torta experience I had at another restaurant last week, I looked to Osuna's for a reprieve. My co-worker, knowing my plight, willingly accompanied me to Osuna's since she was craving cheese enchiladas and she, too, thought they would have the cure. So we head over to Osuna's in Walnut and upon arriving, were seated immediately. Our waitress informed us that they have a new lunch menu but we already knew what we wanted...and fortunately for us, tortas and enchiladas fell under this category. What was great was that the lunch menu includes a medium drink so our total lunch bill was under $20.00. My carne asada torta was the BOMB. Lots of meat that was sliced finely and not in chunks - which was what happened during the last torta experience (some of the chunks ended up on my lap). The meat was accompanied by lots of avocado, lettuce and tomato smooshed between two slices of sweet bread and came with a side of fries. I was in Torta Heaven. My co-worker was very happy with the cheesiness level of her enchiladas and told me that some peppery spices were added to give it an extra kick. If we could've had Margaritas with our meal, I would've have knocked back a few - but we were on our lunch hour. (Damn!) On Tuesday, Osuna's is having Taco Tuesday so we're heading back over there for some $1.25 tacos. So looking forward to it! Cinco estrellas para Osunas...que bueno!!! read more

C'mon now guys, let's not go crazy with the stars. I just came back from the joint and shared a lobster burrito and fish tacos. The lobster burrito was basically a rice burrito with lobster sauce and bay shrimp. It tasted really good at first, until I was halfway through and my internal sodium meter made me stop. That thing is salty! I think there may have been a few slivers of lobster meat in there, but I cannot be sure. I am sure that I pulled a bay shrimp out of there though. The fish tacos were unspectacular, I would take El Taco Nazo any day of the week. Best part of the meal was the lentil soup, and the service was very nice and friendly, but it's not worth a return visit. read more

I told the server and she asked if I wanted something else, and I told her that I still wanted horchata, but to make sure that the whole jar was not contaminated. Came back with bad news saying the whole horchata had that garlic taste, so I ordered: Tamarido water: 5 stars, pretty good :) They start you up with arroz guisado/ some kind of rice brothy soup which was just OK. So I'll give that 1 stars, even though it had a mosquito, I just didn't want to gross the person that I went with, so I didn't say anything and just didn't eat it. Shredded beef Enchilada: 1 star, I would not get it again. The meat was too dried, & the sauce was semi-authentic. Asada Sope: 3 stars, it was good, but I was not blown away by it like I had in other places. Beans: 4 stars, pretty good but my mom's are better :-) Spanish rice: 2 stars, that was NOT good. Of all the restaurants I've gone to, this has the absolute best staff. They are so polite they asked to be excused after they take your order. If you get take out, they give you updates on when your order will be finished. Ambiance: 5 out of 5 Stars Traditional, and very exquisite with great music - not too loud so you can't hold a conversation; but loud enough to add to the whole dining experience. It's been a long time since I've been here. Last time I was here the albertson was still open. The plaza has gone down hill since and so has Osunas. It's really sad because I used to love this place. But now the restaurant needs a major remodel. The strong scent of chlorine when you first walk in doesn't get your appetite ready to eat there. The food is now very mediocre and the service is just dreary. I feel bad for this review but it's unfortunately the truth. I really hope this place can improve, I really miss it. read more
