I was once a regular customer at this location for years, but never returned after the frustration of my last visit. While I was there, the front desk staff offered to adjust the nose pads on my glasses, a common practice at most eyeworks locations. During the adjustment, they *broke*. At first, she apologized and assured me they would cover the repair at no cost, explaining that sometimes glasses can't handle the pressure. However, after almost a week of headaches without glasses, we received a text saying that Otay Ranch Eyeworks was not liable and that *we would have to pay the repair fee* that we were reassured would be covered. There was no prior mention or signage about customers being responsible for damage during adjustments, and it completely contradicted what was promised to me in person. Looking back, even before this incident, staff was constantly upselling on more expensive add-ons and frames. Since switching to Costco Optometry for my checkups, the difference in care, service, and affordability has been a breath of fresh air. I received the worst customer service here. I took my 14 yr old son for his glasses. After three different visits, I kept getting the incorrect frames and I was asked to come in and pick them up each time to discover once again, they were incorrect. We had ordered black frames and on third and final visit, a pair of purple and yellow frames were delivered. I explained this was unacceptable as my son needed these glasses for school. The manager Paula, was embarrassed, and offered me the purple and yellow glasses for free for my son to use. I left the office with my son wearing these funky glasses and by the time we got home the little screw on the glasses had fallen off and we could not find. Luckily my son found an old pair of glasses which he used. We made an appt at a different facility and today he was fitted for his glasses and I was informed that the insurance would not cover as they had just covered a frame in 1/24. Eastlake Vision Center went behind my back and without my permission and charged my insurance for the "free" frames. Today I had to pay out of pocket for my son's needed glasses. I called the Manager Paula who offered me a bunch of excuses without resolution. I informed her I would be putting an insurance fraud claim for their business and I decided to write this review so other's would not have to go through an experience like mine. read more

Will never come back here. Went in for my eye exam (issue with that as well, as they made me come in two different times to do something that could have been done on the same day) paid for new lenses on my sun glasses, 2 weeks later, I get them back and the lenses have the wrong prescription. Two weeks pass, the new lenses come in and the frames are clearly damaged, they needed to get approval to cover new frames so, 5 days later, I called for an update and was told they were waiting for the vendor to ship the frames. Once the frames arrived, two weeks later, the girl at the eye worms was unable to pop the lenses in... they "rushed" it to the lab so they could create new lenses yet again, and it still took another 2 weeks. No follow ups or calls from anyone to let me know what was happening or urgency to even keep me as a client. When I finally went to pick my sunglasses up, there was no follow up, aside from "here you go" no apology for the ridiculous turn around time or any acknowledgment whatsoever. I will never return, absolutely terrible services not to mention way too expensive for what they provide. read more

Online booking system is pointless. You request an appointment and if your request is denied you are not informed. I don't understand what the point of requesting a date and time in a system that says it's available if it in fact, is NOT available and is subject to being denied with no notification whatsoever to the client. The only reason I did the request online was because no one answered when I tried calling. So far the only sure way to make an appointment is in person. read more

you're better off going anywhere but here if ur looking for good quality long lasting lenses whether ur getting new frames or to replace your eye lenses. the first two pairs i got from here have horrible quality lenses. The first pair scratches so easily and the second pair of $350 glasses started peeling at the lens, its sort of a plastic film on the lens that's literally peeling away and i've only had them for ab less than 2 years. Lastly, the quoted me $400 to replace a pair of eye lenses, i get it they have to make their cut but that's just horrible, i went online and its $200 cheaper so i saved half the money and the lenses are amazing quality @replacement lenses express. IN CONCLUSION DO UR RESEARCH LOL there's many places that accept insurance besides here. read more

I came here a few weeks ago to shop for my new pair of glasses. I was greeted right when I walked in, didn't seem to busy and I told the sales girl what I was looking for. She let me browse and asked what my budget was (I already knew they accepted my insurance). I enjoyed the selection of high end brands like Chanel, Prada, Coach, and Gucci. I tried on a few pairs and I never felt rushed, eventually I settled on a Prada gold tone metal frame. This was my first luxury eye glass purchase for myself and the process was made very easy and upfront by the sales girl. BE WARNED I have bought from this location multiple pairs glasses but no more. Twice I "Paid in full" then was told at pickup there were additional charges that no one could explain. Instead of admitting wrongdoing they choose to hold the product hostage until there add on fee is paid. They will remove the charges after fighting with the managers but it's bad business especially when the invoice is paid in full at the time of purchase only to have unexplainable additional charges added. I made sure after the first time it happened, and I chalked it up to an accident, so I am very thorough at checkout now to avoid any issues. This last pair of glasses I bought recently, I asked if the total included eye exam, lenses and new nose guards and I was told yes, it's the entire bill so I happily paid it in full. I was only buying 3 things. When I send my wife to get the glasses, they charged her $95 dollars to pick up the finished glasses and would not release them without being paid. She asked about the charge because she thought it was odd that I would leave a balance. They could not and cannot explain the extra charge that was added on AFTER I check out and "paid in full". This is unacceptable as a business practice and because of the affluent area I'm sure they are doing this to a lot of people since it happened to me two times. If you don't care about principles forget you read this but if you care about the word of another and you pay in full only to be gauged in the end don't say you weren't warned. read more

Wow! I just tried calling for an appointment and the person on the other line just hung up on me. I call back and when I asked if she just hung up on me, she said well, I didn't hear anything so...First of all, for a place of business, it's professional to answer the phone with, in this case, "Otay Ranch Eyeworks, how May I help you?" rather than, hang up with you 'don't hear anything." I took this as a HUGE red flag and deciding NOT to even schedule an appointment. Simple respect and customer service goes a long way. I hope that they do some training or retraining on their staff that answer their phones. read more

Unfortunately, the only reason why I give it a four star is because I did lose my patience with these young ladies. I think the disorganization and feeling overwhelmed, because I was directed to go to one person, then go to another person. Then when I finally thought I was going to be able to order my lenses, I was thrown back with the original person. On the bright side, the Doctor Who attended me, was amazing, and was very insightful and helpful. My son and I came for our yearly exam and the staff are very helpful. They have the right knowledge to answer your questions and very professional. Stephanie has been very helpful and provided assistance when I was trying to decide which frame to purchase. She was not pushy and very patient. They have wide array of designer frames and I was very satisfied with the service we received. Before coming here we use to go to another eye doctor in Chula Vista by Oxford st and they always told my dad his eyes were perfect! Until our insurance change and we were sent to eye works. The first time my dad came here the doctor told him if he was aware that he had "Glaucoma!" We were so surprise we told them we weren't aware! I'm leaving a poor review of them due to the expensive mistake to the first girl that had helped me out the first time. I came in with a budget in mind, especially knowing that my insurance will cover $150 for a new pair of glasses. Someone came to assist me, helped me figure out what frames best suited my face, and I had let her know about my budget. So I settled on the first pair I really liked and within my budget as well which I loved even more. Just know the pair I had chosen was about $238 and after insurance I'd have a copay of $88. I work in a dental office so I very much understand how insurance works and the importance of being on the same page with your customers. So when she rang me up I thought "perfect, that's not too pricey". Then she had asked me if I want anything else added to my lenses such as the anti scratch which would an extra $40 and/or the addition of the blue light protection and that's $176 extra. I specifically told her I opted in for the anti scratch material because an extra $40 isn't so bad. So my total became $148 since new lenses for my prescription is $20. She ran everything by me again, showed it to me, I went over it, signed it, and I paid that $148 and I know she didn't tell me that was a half payment because I made the final payment for everything I asked for that day. About 2 weeks later I get notified my glasses are ready to be picked up. I come in, I try them on, everything looks great. Then they tell me I made a half payment the last time and I owed $176 that day. I asked why and they said I opted in for the blue light. I then told her I know I specifically did not but they already ran it through my insurance. I asked if there can be anything that can be done and she pretty much said there isn't. So I paid thinking I really was stuck having to pay over $300 for new glasses when I had a certain budget in mind. And of course like any office she apologized for the miscommunication and told me the previous girl should have been very thorough since they're all supposed to be, I get that. But I definitely know what I had asked for, I even called my boyfriend to confirm that I didn't ask for it either since he was with me the other day. I then left and sat in my car for a bit feeling very unsatisfied about all of this. And after a bit I came back in and spoke with someone else who was able to help me with what I wanted. She said they can return the glasses and fix the mistake that was made on their end and I got the $176 refunded to my card. Although they are all very friendly, they need to get their things straight, especially in the information being told between their customers and themselves because all of that had me completely stressed out when it didn't need to. read more

Thanks for updating my prescription and following protocol for COVID sanitation for my annual eye exam. I was a previous customer, tried another optometrist, came back. I will be finding another Optometrist. I dislike the new aesthetic and people interaction. The fatphobic Jack Nicholson quote and runway fashion show running on a loop sets a tone of we only serve certain people here. The gentleman who did my initial eye tests (puff in the eye, etc) had limited customer service skills. Felt like he was eager to check his phone and push me along. I tried on contacts in what felt like a storage room since there was so much inventory on the floor. The female staff even apologized "for the big mess."as they entered the room as I was trying on my contacts to collect an order. The optometrist did a thorough eval but I had a change in vision. I asked the difference and he mentioned, "yea, it's worse now." Honestly, if I hadn't asked more questions, I would have had no idea. Upon checkout, the contacts I needed weren't in stock. No big deal. I was sent home with trial contacts in, and another one would be ordered. I picked up new trial contacts and given two different prescriptions. Had to inquire which ones were similar to what I had vs the new ones. If I hadn't asked, I would never have been educated. What could be improved? 1. Create an environment that matches the community you serve. 2. Create a social environment that makes people feel welcomed at multiple points of the experience 3. Organize your office so I'm not walking around messy inventory to try on contacts 4. Increase patient education; explain what needs to be explained at all points of the experience. I'll be taking my business elsewhere to order my glasses and contacts now. Next eye exam will be elsewhere. I hope this experience and feedback helps. read more

Despite the office being busy, we were taken care of in a timely manner. Friendly and professional staff. Great selection of frames and brands. Doctor was good. The staff up front not so much. We felt like we were bothering them during the frame Selection process. We felt rushed the whole time. So many glasses to look at and try on just so they can rush you through the process. My advice is if you come here; don't be indecisive. First time checking this optometry location and by far the worst experience I have ever had. They were not accommodating to my travel To this site. I drove from LA for a new appointment they scheduled me yesterday afternoon and I was seven minutes late, but I did met their 10 minute grace period and they still could not see me. Eye appointments usually take more than 30 minutes from the prescreening to the individual meeting with the optomitrist, how could seven minutes make a difference when staff stated to me that they provide a 10 minute grace period, and I was aware of this. I have never had this experience where staff were not accommodating, but the real issue here is that their scheduling system is horrible. Very bad customer service and especially for a new client. I do not recommend this place for anyone. I will let me coworkers know about this, so they do not encounter with this situation. read more

They won't judge you if you have questions on costs, insurance, and whatnot. They'll work you through the differences of lenses and frames. Dr. Elias is super duper kind. He's very intentional about your eye care. They have a website so you can prep for your first visit even before you get there. COVID measures--they do temp checks at the door and observe social distancing. Also hand sanitizers are available. Appointment setting is a breeze, you can even receive text reminders, confirmations and cancellations. JUST BOOK IT! You won't regret it! read more

Not Inclusion friendly at all! When I had called prior to scheduling my son's appointment I had expressed he was nonverbal autistic and was assured it wouldn't be a problem. When I visited their office and was brought to the back I had reminded them he was nonberbal autistic the woman assisting us cut me off and told me let me ask the Dr. When the Dr came they were quick to suggest he go to Radys or somewhere else. It was extremely frustrating because they spoke about him almost like he had a contagious disease. I do not recommend any parents of special needs children bringing their children here. Awful customer service. I don't know how these doctors passed their med school. I had to go back because they failed to prescribe correctly the first time. Then you got the females in the front who are incompetent in their jobs. They failed to order my contacts so I waited weeks. It was only when I called that they ordered them after two weeks. Customer service was terrible. Walked in and was completely ignored for 10 minutes until 1 employee finally asked if we had been helped. There was only one other customer in the store at the time and was being helped at the counter, the other 2 or 3 employees were gathered together and ignored our presence in the store. This maybe would not have been a problem if the glasses were accesible for us to try on our own but all glasses were behind a glass display that only the employees had access to open. I don't know how they did not expect to help us at all knowing we can only shop for what we wanted with them by our side to open each display. Truly saddening. read more

Don't waste your time going here. I requested an appointment about a month out and they replied stating they didn't have availability until about a month out. I agreed and I replied that the date was fine. They replied saying they would see me then. I walked in today and I was advised they didn't have me in their system. I gave them the email communication and the lady wanted to tell me that I never replied. I had to show her in the email where I did reply and then she's like oh! Then she proceeded to tell me there was no way for them to see me unless I wanted to wait and see if someone cancelled. That was the only option. Ridiculous and the worse customer experience.
