While on a weekend trip to Galena we found this restaurant on Yelp. We tried to go Saturday am but the wait was 45 minutes for 6 of us. It's not a large establishment. Sunday am we wanted to give it another shot so we called ahead and they were able to put our names down while we drove into town. It's worth the wait! The 6 of us enjoyed a variety of omelettes and the Country Benedict along with coffee cake and cinnamon rolls. Everything was delicious and the portions are large. Our server was very attentive, conversational and we were never in need of a refill. I would definitely go back. read more

This is a superb breakfast/lunch spot located next to the old train station in charming Galena. Attractive decor, cozy, clean, with a cheerful and efficient staff. Good coffee! For fun, ordered a piece of yummy warm cinnamony coffee cake to share. Had marvelous veggie hash with eggs and biscuit; husband had corned beef hash and friend had biscuits and sausage gravy. The most amazing breakfast in Galena! The banana bread French toast is a must try. Our server was so great! Despite the 20 minute wait they provide a coffee bar and waiting area. In this quaint fun place the time flew by. Will definitely be back! read more

This place was not fabulous. If you're looking for a quick bite, great. It's super tiny, our waitress seemed like she wasn't happy, and the food was just okay. Nothing to write home about. The Mac and cheese was supposed to have ham and peppers in it. If you take a look at my photo, it doesn't show either. I think there were two cube pieces of ham. Side note: because only one person in our party ordered alcohol, our waitress said we weren't fun. Not that this is our situation, but what if we were recovering alcoholics? I likely wouldn't return. There are better places in Galena to eat. read more

Excellent experience all around! Even during this COVID19 craziness. Came in for breakfast, was seated almost immediately even with the limited outside seating. My friend and I shared a fabulous Bloody Mary. Then we split the 2 egg breakfast with a side of bacon and a half order of biscuits and gravy. It was all delicious. Our server was fast and friendly. Directed here as the best spot for breakfast. Atmosphere: Very cool little spot right near the train depot on the east side of the river. Big picture windows overlooking the train depot make this a Mayberry kind of feel. The kitchen is on the 1st floor of this narrow little establishment so the seating area is small but there is additional seating up the stairs on the second floor. Service: Service was top notch. Our waitress was attentive and personable. The chef came out to see how the food was and if there was anything else we needed. Food: Everything was fresh and tasted of high quality and homemade. We came here for lunch after Christmas when we were spending a night in Galena. So glad we picked this spot as it was great! We like their food philosophy and the charm of it being located next to the train depot. The atmosphere is as advertised, relaxed and a good place to meet up with friends. It seemed like the various tables on the bottom level knew each other. My husband and I sat on the second level. I had the Otto's benedict with bacon on the side to give to my meat eating husband. The cheddar cheese biscuits that came with the benedict were delicious. The bloody mary is worth ordering. My husband had the turkey chili and house salad. He said the chili was solid and the house salad was exceptional. I agree with the house salad being exceptional. Who has ever heard of a house salad having goat cheese? Love it! If we're in Galena again, we'd definitely return back to Otto's. read more

Coming from Chicago I'm leaving ottos place with such an amazing experience and with such a wonderful staff very friendly. This bad review has nothing to do with the pandemic. We've had three instances of going to Otto's and being treated rudely by the owner and this last time calls for this rating. While outside I said hello - she looked at me huffed and walked past. She proceeded to walk inside and wait on my other half who was waiting to check in for a table. She took his name, didn't look up and just bluntly stated "one hour and forty five minutes." Again - this is the third time we've been treated with a "could care if you want to be here," attitude. Never trying again. Give or take attitudes don't belong in the service industry. read more

Amazing meal and service at Otto's Place! If you are anywhere near Galena this is a must spot! Jake provided great service, let us know a large party was before us and our wait would be a little bit longer than usual, brought us a cinnamon roll to snack on while we waited. Coffee was hot and plentiful. Everyone at table loved their food! We had the Country Benedict, Veggie Hash, Otto's Pig in a Blanket and Ham and Cheese omelet. Go for anything that has a biscuit! As a breakfast lover, I couldn't pass this place up! It's a very cute, charming breakfast joint that is a staple in Galena. I tried their basic scrambled eggs with an English muffin and potatoes on the side. Not bad. Pretty much what I expected. My boyfriend had their southern quinoa, which was excellent. I would come back to try their other breakfasts, including their banana bread french toast and cinnamon rolls. I would recommend coming during the week or very early in the morning to get a good spot. We came after Memorial Day weekend right at opening, which was perfect, since no one was there. We were told that the place gets packed very quickly on the weekends, with a 2 hour wait! I would definitely come back to Otto's for their breakfasts and charming atmosphere! :) read more

Don't try to go here on a Sunday or Holiday unless you call and get a spot days ahead of time. Empty tables all waiting for the people who knew to do this. Disappointing they let tables be empty for god Knows how long as other wait. I totally understand calling ahead, we do that all the time.
