One word best describes 'Our Place': PARSIMONIOUS. Last week: Walked in with a friend to 'Our Place' a local bar in Lake Forest because of the Yelp comments were good about the food. About 8:30PM sat at one of the small tables (one person was at the bar rest of the chairs empty). The bar Server comes over to our table after a long wait, showing zero personality and absolutely no energy. I have seen Laguna Woods residence move faster although he looked about twenty-one years old. I Ordered Bourbon (neat); potato skins and the recommend meat on a stick. Here is what I received: A Bar Tender (second zero energy/personality person) and the Male Server with again no energy or personality; a guy trying to sing a Beatles song (but badly); a drink with a very shallow pour of Bourbon for $9; three little meat sticks for $14 and some pretty good potato skins $8. We went Outside (get away from the singer), we met Sally (Owner) and my opinion completely changed about the place. The two owners (Sally and?) had a fun energy that made the place fun outside; away from the two downers inside and behind the bar. So Parsimonious is my description of 'Our Place.' Means: cheap to a fault. Not that the Bar is inexpensive, it is very pricey for what you get. What I mean is Management is cheap and doesn't make good business decision to better the bar experience and gain customers. Cheap not hiring good people to bring a festive energy and fun to the bar; serve better drinks for $9; three little meat sticks for $14 should be at least six. If Sally and the other Owner, would actually run the place and tend bar, I think I would go back. But, my experience with parsimonious managers' is vast and they usually don't like to work and mostly drive the entities into the ground and wonder what happened. Our Place, it's such an appropriate name for this little restaurant/bar. Honestly, when you get inside, it just feels like your place. The service is so incredibly warm and hospitable. It definitely takes on the personality of the owner, Tammy, who is just the sweetest lady ever! I came here to celebrate my birthday last weekend. Having had a really hard time figuring out a mellow venue for me and some of my closest friends, I thought I would drop by the night before just to scope it out. I liked the atmosphere and the intimacy of the place so I spoke to the owner, Tammy, about the possibility of having a group of 15-20 people here on Saturday night. I was a bit skeptical, considering that this is not a big place but she was thrilled to hear it and assured me that she would set aside some space for us. Low and behold, the next night, Tammy had set aside some tables decorated with balloons and even threw in a few appetizers on the house. Amazing. Now if that weren't enough, Our Place also has karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights. Having knocked back a few, my friends and I belted out some songs and had a phenomenal time. While I haven't had a chance to try much of their food, they do have some very reasonable prices on food. They also have drink specials and happy hour almost nightly. I fully intend on making Our Place, my place in the future. P.S. A word to the wise; if you intend on having 15-20 people celebrate your birthday with you, it's probably best not to start the night off with dirty vodka martinis. Brutal. read more

My husband and I went to Our Place last night and had a wonderful time!!! Live music and great service (Omar). Sally and Tammy have created a sweet and charming environment with a type of home town service that you don't find very often. I asked them to surprise me with a drink that had Vodka but wasn't too sweet. Omar recommended a Moscow Mule and it was perfect and exactly what I was looking for (not too sweet) PLUS, the best Spinach/Artichoke dip I've EVER had!!! I ate so much of the dip that I couldn't finish my second drink... a terrible problem to have, right? hehehe Overall a great experience!!! One tip for the patrons, do not turn left illegally out of the shopping center parking lot, onto the street. We got pulled over by the cops... fortunately, they didn't give us a ticket though. :)) read more

I can't even give this stupid place a star. A friend and I ordered mojitos and actually had to explain to the bartender how they're made only to be told that they were out of those ingredients. After changing our drink order we ordered chicken nachos. Big mistake. If mojitos were a scientific equation, imagine how complex our nachos had become. We got them about 30 min later with the cheese almost petrified and the grease making our chips soggy. The chicken bits were definitely not fresh and maybe worthy for a desperate alley cat. We finally got our drinks halfway through disecting our microwaved chips and the only thing that excused this was the fact that our drinks were pure alcohol. In conclusion... This place blows. P.S. OP shreds the bacon. Here's the rundown of my first visit: - I ordered a glass of their house red (which was young, fresh, and ready for my mouth. No flavors of rubber stopper to be found) - I ordered the Salmon (a difficult test for this type of establishment) - THE SALMON WAS PERFECT. Chef J hit it at just above medium rare, perfect serving temp for salmon, and it was grilled with a DELICIOUS glaze. A fantastic side of lemon/caper sauce was paired with the fish and a rare assortment of veggies (NOBODY serves grilled artichokes! Don't be picky, you prude). I think I detected mustard in the lemon/caper sauce and it was remarkably fantastic. The vegetable accompaniment married perfectly with the fish and wine. I wasn't just astonished by my lack of expectation- I was astonished by their attention to flavor. 5/5 I was greeted promptly, served delightful drinks and food at a price that implied rare value. There was conversation for the extrovert and even the right vibe to keep a solo diner comfortable. More importantly, however, was the post-dinner scene! I picked and chose from the multiple drink specials as I saw fit. The karaoke guru was on fire. He would tailor the musical key of song choices to the singer, maximizing their vocal capacities and the crowd's enjoyment. The funny thing is, as a Lake Forest resident, I'm loath to share my find... However, in the grand scheme of OC, this place marks itself as a destination up there with any historical landmark. Please know my review comes with a stayed hand- I don't want to jeopardize the accessibility of this gem! And in response to the journalists who came before me; frou-frou drinks like the Mojito aren't a standard you can measure any bar by. As a restaurateur and bar manager of many ultra-fine establishments I can tell you that NOBODY wants to muddle your drink but we do so when we can and with a smile. If a tavern hasn't got the fresh ingredients for your request, then why would you want them to fake it? You want a Mojito? Go to St. Regis, Monarch Beach and spend $15 for one. You want a $4 seasonal beer or $5 specialty drink? Then stop being a fart-knocker and enjoy what your host is HOSTING! read more

When I heard that Sally and Tammy were taking over Our Place I was so happy! Being a local I had sporadically visited Our Place since it originally opened with not much to say about it. That has all changed since the new ownership. Tammy and Sally are doing an incredible job! They have made many huge changes from the decor to the menu to the staff. I recently spent my daughters 21st there and she was so blown away by the attention given to her as soon as she walked in. Between the balloons, 1st drink on the house, appetizers and special entertainment it was an incredible night to remember! What I love most is the warm feeling you get as soon as you walk in with a casual atmosphere and easy-flowing conversation between friends new and old. read more

Ive been only once since the change in management but I will never go back. There was only 1 server on a Saturday night so service was very slow. I ordered a steak which was not good. The potato skins were great though. My Coors Light was only $3.25 which is very reasonable, but the atmosphere killed it for me. Me and my date had to sit outside because inside felt as hot as an oven. Eating outside was also a mistake because the drunk, rowdy, extremely loud (and even obscene at times) patrons outside were constantly smoking. Our meal took 2 hours for 3 courses which I didn't mind because I enjoyed my company but it definitely felt slow. Overall, I came to this place because it used to feel like a restaurant. Monday was my second time visiting this establishment and it didn't disappoint. Heather C. (Bartender) and Brian (Chef) are amazing, and you can tell they love what they do. The bar is clean, and everyone is very nice and welcoming. As a female, I feel 100% safe going to have a drink by myself or with my girlfriends. My wife and I finished our errands early yesterday and decided to go someplace for a cocktail. We chose Our Place on the recommendation of a friend, and I am glad we did. Our Place is a little out of the way and maybe hard to find if you are not familiar with the area but it is only a few block from where we live so it is perfect for us. This is definitely a bar for regulars and locals but don't let that deter you. As soon as we sat down the Brandy the Bartender introduced herself, and asked us our names. We were there for about 3 hours and every single person that came in during that time, she knew and introduced us to them. They have a very friendly crowed and it wasn't long before my wife and I were chatting with others like we had been coming there for years. The new owner spent quite a bit of time talking with us as well. We ordered the carnitas nachos... chips, cheese, beans, meat... I've ordered them a hundred times before and made them a hundred more times myself... The presentation of the food was truly amazing, almost artistic. The attention to detail from the cook (at a bar!) was enough to warrant me spending a lot of time thinking about how to write a review that would really do it justice. And as beautiful as the presentation was, the food was twice as good! We ate EVERY BITE and will definitely be ordering the nachos again! When it came time to finally leave, Everyone said goodbye to us and said that they hoped that we would be back to join their "family". If you appreciate personalized customer service, really good food, a congenial crowd, and management who really cares about their clientele, it would be hard, if not impossible to find better example than Our Place. read more

Brent at the bar recommended the filet skewers. 3 skewers of tender beef with a Gorgonzola and drizzle of teriyaki sauce. You wouldn't think this works blended together, but it totally does!! Talk about an old fashion gem, well this is it. Came in on a Sunday (early evening) and it was popping. Live music had the crowd really into it. The lighting and scenario was pretty neat and the service was in good spirits. Ordered some shots with my friend and we were having a great time seeing everyone happy. Easy 5 stars - definitely would recommend this place for a bday gathering. Tammy the owner is INCREDIBLE and set up tables with balloons, and well as having the foresight of pre-ordering some appetizers for the group. Mary, our server, kept everyone smiling and the drinks coming -- perfect service. Karaoke was a blast - good mix of pros and ppl there to just have fun. Outdoor patio, cheap eats (sliders for $5! I am so going back to eat more food here!), friendly patrons. Be ware bringing a strapping young lad in here - I turned my head and my boyfriend was getting mobbed by 3 older ladies on the dance floor :) one kept telling him to "get lower!" - lol. The BEST sliders (bar none) I have found. We got ours customized with grilled onions and avocado, and the fries, fat or skinny, are always delicately golden. This topped off with a tangy/ sweet Brooklyn Bitter cocktail. Reminiscent of chilled grapefruit sprinkled with sugar and all spooned out for you. One of the few places my single girlfriends can go on their own for a drink and a bite to eat, have a conversation with a new face and be totally comfortable. read more

Visited with the wife the other day. We were looking for something new and had not been here yet...well since it changed hands... New decor and a few flat screen tv's in the corners for your viewing pleasure. They still have the patio area, which is where the smokers were hang out. There was also a sign out front advertising happy hour from 11AM to 6:30PM (I think). We just missed it, but vowed to make good use of it some day. The bartender was quick to take our order. We ordered up some drinks and some appetizers. The filet tips were tasty and the chicken wings were good sized. Nice. We liked the appetizers and so ordered up a salad and some fish and chips to share. The salad was huge and there was plenty to share. Beware of the fish and chips on the menu, however. It has some fairly fancy name, but what you get is formed fish pieces like from the frozen food aisle at a grocery store. When it was put on the table I was close to telling the server that I was not eating (and paying for) something they got at Albertsons on the other side of the parking lot. If this was a sports bar, sure, but this place is trying to be more upscale and so shouldn't be serving something that looks like this. Yeah yeah...my opinion... Okay, so they also have this karaoke thing here. Not sure if it is every night, but this lady parked her stuff in the corner and set up at around 7PM. While she was doing that a bunch of solo guys came into the place, sat, and waited. Why? Well to sing of course. The hostess sang a few songs and then the guys took their turn belting out some classics. Appropriate during dinner time? Perhaps not. And when the new waiter was dragged in to sing a little "Islands in the Stream" a la Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers, I thought that my ears were going to start to bleed. Holy hell... This should go on a little later in the evening. Kudos to the couple that rolled in a little tipsy and were just a heartbeat away from having sex right at the table. We got a kick out of watching the touchy-feely show. You should have knocked one out before going out for your meal...or maybe you did and were enjoying the afterglow. All in all a nice stop. It's probably perfect to catch a few drinks and a little nosh, but I'm not sure about dinner. That karaoke would be a deal killer for me if I wanted to enjoy a nice meal. My husband and I went there this week to meet some regulars and I can see why you'd become a regular! Wow, the service, the attention, the food and did I mention the La Crema Chardonnay? We are fans. Had the nachos, they were great, just right. We ate every bite. I was really impressed by the friendliness of the clientele, they truly were appreciative of the place and were welcoming to us new comers too. The management made sure our every desire was met, the staff was attentive but not too, an overall excellent experience. Our friend Austin took us here last night for our first time after we had met up for dinner . We had a great time. Bruce and Tammy were nice as can be and made us all feel very welcome and at-home. It is a very cute establishment with a lot of character and laid back atmosphere. Drinks were affordable and well made. Not too strong or too weak. All in all a great experience. I've tried this place three times now, because it's really close by, and I want to like it. Went there Saturday night to live Karaoke, some of which was really good. A few things to keep in mind... This is a "barfly" type of place with local sad sacks and lonely drunks sitting at the bar and chain-smoking on the patio. One drunk was so out of it he sat at my table and mumbled incoherently. And no, he was not kicked out, even after over an hour of visible extreme drunkeness. Clean enough and comfortble though. Grey Goose will run $9. Makers Mark $11. Tap beers $4.50. Jack and coke $7. This is way pricey for this kind of place. Wait staff very friendly and nice. Recommend for small groups out to socialize in a cozy place and perhaps drink enough to get up a sing a song or two. read more

Like everyone else keeps saying: Great little bar, fantastic food (not just on a bar-food scale) and pretty darn good music acts to boot. Wifey said I "have to" take her out Saturday night. She said we need a place to get a drink or two and also to get food, and she said somewhere different we haven't been. Looked up the trusty Yelp and did the sorting by rating as I usually do. Came across this place. I knew anything on Yelp with 4 stars is great. And in cases of places that even have 4 ¼ to 4 (4 1/2 in this place's case), then that pretty much means you are a business in the top half of one percent or something. At 4 stars you cannot go wrong. So in the car we drove from Irvine. Ordered a dirty martini, a Cadillac Margarita, the mac & cheese (one of the Yelp reviewer raved about) and chicken and sautéed vegis in some gravy sauce. all of it was fabulous. And the prices reasonable. Met the owner Tammy; she was sweet. We had sat at the bar - both bartenders were great. Lots of regulars. The average age was about 40, but I have a feeling that changes depending what birthday parties are going on and which band is playing. The band was a great Funk band called "Sibling Rivalry". The front man (vocals and keyboard) was the older brother and his sister was also vocals. They also had a drummer and guitar player. The front man was really funny and did a lot dialog in between songs and there was quite a bit of banter between him and his sister (hence, "Sibling Rivalry"). They have a half a dozen art work hanging on their walls. They showcase a local artist every other month. We'll go back and will also tell all South County friends about. read more

I found this place out of the blue today. I'd honestly have to say it was the best mexican food I've had in a bar--ever. Order the nachos. I was told that the chips are even handmade. They're guacamole sauce for the tacos is awesome. The servers are some of the best people you could ever hope to meet. Everyones smiling and they aim to please. If you haven't been, go. This is a little over due! Forgot to do it right away! But went to "Our Place" to see the band "School Boy Crush/Family Style" on Sunday, July 21st, which we follow to different bar/restaurants! This was our first time @ "Our Place" & I have to say the server Bruce was amazing! He ask our names & remember them, was so efficient, fast & most of all pleasurable! You don't find servers like him very often! We would definitely recommend going here & you won't be disappointed with Bruce! The food was pretty good! Seen this place a bunch since moving to the neighborhood and finally walked in for a beer and to watch the Rams game. I was welcomed by the owner/operator/bartender, Sally, who couldn't of been nicer. She told me all about the bar and their live music and introduced me to some of the regulars.
