We rented an ATV for a four-hour ride, and barely one hour into our rental the transmission completely failed, leaving us stranded in the middle of the trail. Before even contacting the company, we took the time to try and move the ATV off of the trail so it wouldn't block other riders. Between waiting for assistance and getting back to the store, we lost roughly an hour of the rental we had paid for. When we returned, we were met by the manager, Ted, whose customer service was nothing short of appalling. Instead of addressing our concerns, he repeatedly dismissed me and directed his responses to my husband, even telling me I should "talk to him about it." It was incredibly disrespectful and came across as blatantly chauvinistic. Despite losing a full hour because of their equipment failure, Ted refused to offer any refund or credit. His only response was that we should have "read the contract." Apparently, a contract excuses renting out an ATV with a transmission that fails after an hour. After experiencing a mechanical failure serious enough to strand us on the trail, there was no way we were willing to put our children back on another ATV from this company. Rather than showing any concern for our safety or attempting to make things right, Ted argued with us and hid behind the rental agreement. This entire experience felt like a bait-and-switch: rent out poorly maintained machines, let them break down, refuse refunds, and point to the contract when customers complain. A reputable business would stand behind its equipment and value customer safety. This one did neither. If you're looking for an ATV rental company that maintains its equipment and treats customers with respect, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Between the poorly maintained ATV, the wasted hour of our paid rental, and Ted's dismissive, unprofessional attitude, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. But they were wonderful and took the time to teach us the trail and lookout points. We did the outlaw trail and at the end got to look at sacred Indian ruins. You're given a GPS map and blankets. You see them all around Sedona. I was excited to finally take a ride. We rented a 6 seater for 4 hours. It was a fun and different experience to explore the Sedona trails. We started with the Devils Bridge trail. I feel bad for the people hiking the trail. It was pretty dusty just sitting inside the vehicle. There were so many ATVs on that trail. We then drove further out to a few other ATV trails. The trails various from a few rocks to big boulders. You can't beat the beautiful scenery! I do highly recommend bring a mask and sunglasses. Leave everything in car preventing the red sand covering all over your stuff. Your clothing will be covered as well. They are not easy to wash out. I would have given another star if the vehicle didn't breakdown. The vehicle stalled when we were on the purple trail. It was a long distance from town. We had to call for help. They told us it was going be about 15-20 minutes. It took over 30 minutes. Luckily we had water in the cooler. If you have T-Mobile, you will not have any signals. I highly recommend having someone with have a different carrier. Verizon works there, but very limited signal. I hope they have a GPS tracker in the vehicle. I believe they do need to maintaine their vehicles much better. Just beware to stock enough water in cooler! read more

We had an extraordinary time and even as I type this I am replaying the whole experience through my mind. The staff were all so incredible and kind to work with. Ease with booking, planning, and directions. The two trails we did were "The Outlaw" that brought us right to a mountain complete with ruins and the other trail we did was "The Diamondback" which was thrilling, heart pumping, and extremely exhilarating. My son and I went for a ride this past week for a little guy time away from my wife and daughters on our visit to Sedona. I'm am not experienced in this sport so I bought ALL THE INSURANCE I could get, even the side wall tires insurance. The hell with it. We got a 2 hour rental, it was enough for 1 trail. It was fine. Read outback ATV's story on their website. Family-owned, how long they have lived in Sedona. They know all the places to go and see. Our version. Super nice with welcoming smiles. Our Can-Am 4-seater made it through all the paths however the suspension felt worn out. Engine ran great! They asked what we wanted to see but already had the laminated map of drawn out places to go. We choose the 8 hour instead of the 4 hour. we would have chosen the 4. We did do Devils Bridge first since this is a very long walk with an 8-year-old. We did diamondback which was on their map. ( I would pass on this unless men just want to drive for 2 hours on dirt.) we never had to get out and walk. Nothing to see other than the same old scenery the entire time. The other stuff on the map we couldn't even find. Not even sure it would have been worth it anyways. I think these rentals are more drive the entire time instead of finding the honey hole that most wouldn't be able to see. We were very disappointed to say the least. Wanted the experience and there are many companies to choose from but, I believe we chose the wrong one! I am a Jeep owner and have been doing off-road activities most of my adult life. There is nothing like being talked to like an idiot by someone half your age, which is how I felt while getting the instructions. The waiver was LONG and I signed my initials about as many times as when signing a mortgage. They warned of $300 fee for tire sidewall damage (which no one can control) and tipping hazards and made sure that I knew they were holding $3K for potential damage. Then, outside, I realized the tires were old and the vehicles didn't look like they were well maintained. So, I am responsible and could be charged for damage to old tires and old belts that aren't maintained! Nice! We planned to be out for 4 hours. The GPS screens were nice and worked well. If you go on an excursion like this, you will get FILTHY! Dust flying everywhere and it gets EVERYWHERE! They provided bolted water in a small ice chest in the back. It was 105 degrees on this day in July. On the trails the scenery was beautiful and the trails are rocky - lots of bumps and, some minor technical skills are good to have on some of the rock obstacles, with alternate paths on most of them. About 3 hours in, the vehicle broke down! We were on the 2nd trail and evidently, the transmission went out - stranded with 3 bottles of water! Called Outback and they told me to "rip on it" - what? It wont move forward, only backwards, I assured them. Once again, I'm the idiot right? Well, we will send someone out to get you - takes 15-20 minutes. Close to an hour later, someone shows up. When we got back, it was like nothing happened - sorry that happened - here is your receipt, thanks for coming! All-in-all, the trail views/experience was good but this is a company that does not maintain their vehicles well and charges their customers when things break - read the other reviews and see. they also have a problem with being truthful - again, read the other reviews. This appears to be a pattern. All of this borders on, if it isn't already negligence. Shameful - I do not recommend Outback ATV rentals. read more

Great day on the trails with my daughter yesterday. The staff in the office were awesome! They explain everything but it is QUICK so listen and ask questions. The trails we went on were very challenging to us as novices but we had a blast. I know what a milkshake feels like though. Haha. I'm sore today. Definitely stop at the archeologic site and spend the $5 to get up close to the rock face and see the pictures that were drawn on it and the dwelling remains from 1,800 years ago. What started out a a fun family adventure ended in a rough day with a steep price tag. During our intro to the atv, the team continued to tell us no donuts, be safe, etc. Being the safe group we were, we mapped out the selected trails, accounted for the recommended drive times, and set out. Unfortunately during our outing, we drove over a sharp rock that punctured the side of the back tire. Immediately the tire deflated and we were stranded. It took roughly an hr for help to arrive. This ate into our paid time, but we let it go since we were stranded pretty far from the main hub. However, when the man arrived to help us, the only words he said was, "you're going to have to pay for this." In response, I asked what we could have done differently since we were not driving aggressively nor off-trail as they had warned us not to do. He looked indifferent and said, "they'll talk to you when you get back." When we arrived back (driving slow af since we were already freaked out), we were told that because the puncture was on the side of the tire, we had to pay an additional $258. Insurance only covered the tire tread. We were also told that we should have driven slower, as in 2-3 mph over the rocky portions! When I pointed out that based on our location and time, there was no way that we were driving the atv recklessly, they shrugged it off and said it didn't matter. Pay up. Long story short, avoid this company. Find another place with more a understanding team or risk having a hefty bill and leaving with a not so fun family memory. read more

Super friendly people who were well prepared to help us enjoy the day exploring. They had a GPS tablet dash mounted with trails marked and a map to take with us. This allowed us to explore and find great trails to explore and ride. They has a lot of options for off road Polaris vehicles to use including 2, 4, and 6 seaters. The vehicle we used was a four seater and had 780 hours on it. The suspension was much stiffer that I expected and was used to. It may have been the number of hours on the machine, the tires, or the suspension adjustments they made. The stiff suspension made it a rattle box with the roof panel and doors. My suggestion is to let the suspension float more and add rubber buffers to stop the insane rattling. We still had a great time and loved exploring the trails around Sedona. read more

She was full of knowledge on each trail, explained the layout extremely well.... We decided to book a full day of adventure!!! There are numerous atv rentals here in Sedona but we decided to go through outback atv due to their 25% off promotion and how receptive the staff was to any questions we had. All of the staff members were very easy to talk to and even allowed us to sit in each of the atv models to see which one we liked prior to booking. They also explained how the pricing broke down and how the insurance works. We got the $15 tire insurance just in case we accidentally popped the tires on the trail. The trails are VERY rocky to say the least. Upon check in time at 7:15 am, they gave us a quick orientation of how to use the vehicle. The whole process took 10-15 minutes. They even said they had no issue if we went through mud, just keep it off the roof. After that, we were on our way to explore. We had a great time on the devils bridge trail and schnebly hill off road trail. The only downside I saw was that the tablet provided was a bit difficult to use. We ended up using our iPhones to map us to the trails. Some tips if you're renting 1) rent at the earliest time available (Sedona heat is too hot in the afternoon) 2) check out YouTube videos on the trails you are planning to drive on so you're familiar and 3) if you want to take your time, possibly rent the whole day rental. We felt a little rushed because the walk to devils bridge took up an hr. (You have to wait in line to take pictures) and we had a 4hr rental. Lastly, Check out was very convenient. We had no damage and they refunded the $3k deposit immediately. And another thing I appreciated was that the staff seemed to genuinely appreciate our business and presence there. read more

The utv we rented smelled of gas the whole time. The check engine light came on. It had no suspension. It was a horrid ride and severely needed maintenance. The navigation system wouldn't work. We were told that unit had been rolled several times....after we complained. No licenses, insurance, or permits were displayed anywhere in the business.
