Definitely a fan of the Outback restaurant in Brick, which is super weird because I have never been a fan of the chain. I've had some pretty bad experiences with other Outback locations, but the one on Hooper Ave. in Brick is FANTASTIC. First - It is very clean inside and you can tell that the manager takes pride in ownership. No bad smells. Spotless silverware. No flies or gnats (which is a real problem in this area of Brick). The restaurant is kept extremely clean. Love that. It's a large restaurant inside and there are always enough tables. Waitstaff are super friendly and welcoming. They are very informative and can totally keep up with specific or special requests. They don't try to oversell anything and are always honest, which I personally really appreciate. Food always comes exactly as ordered and very tasty -well seasoned and more importantly, hot and cooked properly. From the Ribeye arriving in a true medium-rare, to burgers that are juicy and delicious, to well seasoned and properly prepared seafood, the food at this specific Outback is GREAT. Even the salads (house salad or wedge salad) are really fresh and delicious and never feel like an afterthought. All in all, after relocating back to Brick after being up north for some time, I can say, with complete surprise, that Outback on Hooper Ave. is quickly becoming my go-to spot when I want to feel confident that my dinner will be delicious. We've been trying many restaurants in the area and have yet to find one other than Outback that is consistently good, clean and comfortable. Kudos to the owner, managers and staff at this restaurant. Hadn't been to this location in a while but we had a gift card. Got there at 5pm. Got a confirming text that we were on the list. Still sitting in the waiting area at 5:30 when I got up to see if there was a problem as we were told it was a 15 minute wait. Our name was mysteriously wiped out. We were the next ones to be seated, 12 minutes later. One strike. We ordered a strip steak and a rib eye, both medium. They both came out super rare so we sent them back. Strike two. The ribeye came back medium but the strip steak was still too rare. Strike three. So sent the steak back again with great apprehension as we had a visual of evil things being done to my meal. I have not been to a Outback Steakhouse in quite a long time and I deeply regret it. The service, food and overall experience was above and beyond all expectations. The server Vanessa was consistent in her aid from checking in our the meal to refilling drinks. A waiter Scott W. and manager checked in repeatedly. They were open to our thoughts and by the end of the meal I was already planning my next visit. Do not let the renovations on the outside fool you. The restaurant is open, alive, and well. We visited outback at 9pm (closes at 10), service was good! We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and they came with some type of sauce that was delicious. We had also ordered the blue cheese wedge salad (you can never go wrong with this one) and indulged. Fried food, and salt. This is kind of what you expect at Outback and similar chains, but I still felt let down. First off, I'll say the atmosphere is what you'd expect and our waiter was friendly and attentive. As for the food, we got the Bloomin' Onion for an appetizer, the creamy potato soup, the caesar salad, and the sirloin with marsala mushroom sauce. The Bloomin' Onion is always good while you're eating it but not so good after you've realized what you just put into your body. I enjoyed the creamy potato soup and the caesar salad. The marsala mushroom sauce on the steak seemed a bit bland and the sirloin was decent, but nothing to write home about. I will say we paid a good price with the special that they're running - four courses for $14.99 (soup, salad, entree, dessert). I know I'll be back at some point regardless, but I think I'll look for something different on the menu. read more

This place could do no wrong when it first opened. The steaks were HUGE! I mean, we're talking gargantuan cuts of meat. Plus, they served their steaks on the rare side, which was fine by me (like, if you normally wanted your steak done medium, you'd need to order it medium-well here). They had chicken wings they called kookabura wings that were almost small drumsticks. Somehow the accountant must've gotten control of this place, because the quality slipped tremendously. Steaks that were almost as big as the plate (or so they seemed) started to shrink, and they had a tendancy to overcook their meat. Wings started to get pretty small too. Plus, the wait was always insane! Fortunately, if you're with a small party, you can usually grab the tables right by the bar. They're first come-first served. The verdict: I've never had a truly horrible meal here, but if you asked me if I'd rather go here or to the Lone Star, the Lone Star would win nine times out of ten. I've had a terrible experience eating out at every restaurant in Toms River and the surrounding areas except this one. Their staff is pretty solid, dependable and mature. I've never had my order screwed up, the bartenders know what they're doing and that one time my steak was slightly too medium but good enough, they changed it anyway. The waiter was everything! Rocco took care of us! He noticed the the flatware was off and replaced it immediately. We placed or order, we got the bread and ordered appetizers. He made sure that we were not bombarded with the appetizers and our meal. He took notice that our blooming onion wasn't right and took extra time to make sure it was. I ate the blue cheese wedge salad, bloomin' petals and Aussie steak tacos. My cousin had the filet and lobster tail. Our salads were crisp and tasty. My taco steak was juicy and the spices and add ons were flavorful. My cousin's steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the tail was a nice size. John, our server, was attentive, friendly and helpful with our selections. Nice job John and Chef. I went to outback with a friend of mine and it was around 8 so we weren't expecting to be seated . The "hostess " told us 3 times they close at 9...okay I get that . She took my cell number and after 5 minutes we got a text our table was ready so we walked up. She says how many and we said 2. She says we close in a half hour . I told her you just texted us. She said " oh right" then she sees people walking up and then says oh jeez I hope they don't want to eat cause we close in a half hour. I know these servers work very hard and many struggling to make ends meet during this trying time but this employee needs to watch what she says in front of customers. Outback is not what it used to be. The children's portions are better than the rest of the menu. The food was plain, unappealing, unappetizing & left me wanting to go somewhere else and never come back. The restaurant was empty so I didn't expect the service to be so slow. Our kids refused to eat the steak medallions & chicken tenders. It's a shame they only ate the fries. They eat our chicken tenders & filet mignon at home. The 6oz filet looked like a hockey puck. The plate was naked with no garnish & a scoop of garlic mashed potatoes. The food has changed for the worst. Caesar salad disappointing. The potato soup was good but cold. The bloomin onion & buffalo wings were as good as they used to be.The shrimp & 16 oz steak was a disappointment. We didn't even bother with dessert. Our server was nice at least. read more

The service was good, but the steaks were disappointing. My husband's 6 oz. filet mignon was inexpertly cut, thick at one end and thin on the other. Of course, the thin end was not medium rare, as ordered. The thick end was only slightly pink. The meat was dry, too. About 3 or 4 months ago this Outback was doing a great job. The steaks were cooked perfect (I like a very rare steak) and the Blooming onion was also cooked (Fried) well. Then the kitchen staff was changed and it's been down hill ever since. I order RARE with a capital R, warm center like the menu shows. I finally sent one back and waited 20 minutes while my wife ate her steak because the manager wanted to check the new steak when it was served. It could have been a little more on the rare side but I ate it because I didn't want to wait another 20 minutes. The Blooming Onions have gone down hill and are never the same. Including today, I haven't had a perfectly cooked steak in over 5 visits. The Wedge salad is the best but they forgot the bacon bits the last 3 times. I didn't get one this time. My wife ordered the Alice Springs chicken with Aussie fries and the Cesar salad. Chicken came without the fries. Her Cesar didn't have any dressing on it. I had surf & turf, the 6oz sirloin ordered RARE, capital R. I'd give it a medium rare at best. Half way thru the waitress asked how it was and did offer to get me another one. I didn't want to wait after having already started the onion and salad. Now the bill comes and I have to decide if I want the "free" Monday Blooming Onion, the Military discount or the "Dining Reward", because I can only use one discount. This is something that was changed because I was always given the Military discount and the free Blooming Onion when Harvick was in the top ten at Nascar. I'd really like to know who really pays for this "Free Blooming Onion. I wish there was another Outback closer to Toms River. I've had better luck in other states with Outbacks. I think it's time again to shake up the kitchen staff. At least find a cook that knows how to cook a steak. read more

The outback steakhouse in not what it use to be. A few years ago you would got to the Outback and have a beeper given to you when the table was ready. There were people waiting to get a table. Today you do not see that at all and for a good reason. The food is greasy and the meat was very tough. The food is not worth the money. Thirty dollars for a steak.
