Do not get the prime rib slow cooked! We first got there and it was pretty busy our server seemed kinda frantic at first but by the end of our meal he was more attentive and came to us more. I wanted mashed potatoes but they didn't have any. (It was 6:45 pm so I don't know how you'd run out but okay? Whatever. got a prime rib slow cooked and oh my god it was the TOUGHEST prime rib ever. I had to saw my knife threw it and there was fat and I literally couldn't cut certain pieces of it. It tasted like meat water. Literally no flavor and it was just gross. I feel nauseous now. Overall not worth it. Server asked if he could see if he could take a percentage off our check which i appreciate. Not his fault. He asked if I wanted anything else but my stomach hurt so bad from the prime rib I didn't want anything. They comped the meal and gave us dessert which I really do appreciate. Please understand that I mean this as praise. Aren't all Outback Steakhouse locations the same? That's what these chains are striving for and this Outback location achieves the corporate model quite well. Serve sort of Australian fare ( or at least name them interesting Crocodile Dundee-isms) at a moderate price. Do Australian people actually ever eat at Outback when they are visiting here? I guess ti would be a little like an American hunting down an Applebee's in Berlin. Well maybe not because that would be pathetic, so hopefully no one would ever do such a thing. I digress. So maybe this review is more of a commentary on the doom & gloom economy reporting we are subjected to and how that just doesn't fit in with this area ( for the most part...of course there are people suffering, I get that...). The media would have you believe though, that most of us are huddled around the family hearth staring into the one last remaining smoldering scrap of coal and wondering which child to sacrifice for Christmas dinner.... okay a little overdone, but I'm feeling Dickensian. This location is collocated with a Carraba's and is on the ring road of Hunt Valley Mall. It was Saturday night about 7:30 p.m. (26 Dec) and both places had a 40 minute wait. We got lucky and took an "enclosed patio" seat rather than wait to dine inside. So we were in and out in an hour or so. However in looking around it wasn't just the "well-heeled" out living on the largess of the poor and huddled masses. I saw everything from young couples to families, to middle-aged and older groups. There were teen-aged "wanne-be" gang bangers and people in suits. So I guess the Hunt Valley area is somewhat immune to the "global economic meltdown", or perhaps in the midst of all the leftover snowfall due to global climate change we were just maxing out our credit cards. read more

OUTBACK HUNT VALLEY. I ordered a gluten free meal ON LINE. I SPECIFIED GLUTEN FREE as I have an autoimmune condition and cannot tolerate gluten. Nonetheless, I received croutons on my salad. Had to throw it out. Also, my filet was cold and tough. My sides were wrong, I received 2 sweet potatoes. I asked to be called when my order arrived, to my dismay my order was left outside my apartment building on the front porch. No call to me was made. A third party delivery. A kind neighbor went door to door to locate the intended recipient. Obviously, everything was cold. My shrimp on the Barbie was not as advertised. This is the 1st time I've tried the Old Bay Lobster Tails and They were just as Good as The normal ones that are Grilled. And I am also thrilled that they have updated the menu since my last visit. We met friends here for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was pretty full. We ordered fried mushroom and an onion for apps. The onion was great but the mushrooms were overcooked (they tasted slightly burnt). When the food came I had ordered a sirloin Medium Rare, it came out Medium. A friend also ordered his Prime Rib medium rare and it also came out Medium. We both sent our steaks back. When they were returned to the table they were now close to Medium well and were the exact same steaks we sent back, cut marks and all! Seriously? Why would you even try that? We returned these as well. The new steaks that came out were better however mine had a very white/tough/inedible membrane running through it. At this point I wasn't sending it back for a third time, I just ate around it. Going out with friends is too expensive to not get what you ordered. Outback you need to do better. read more

It's a chain restaurant so it's good for what it is. I arrived around 9:45 on a Saturday night with no wait. The waitress was prompt and attentive. The food was to be expected. I ordered the chicken and shrimp pasta dish with just shrimp. There was no up charge. The pasta was kind of dry and I needed to ask for more sauce. This made the dish much better. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. The mirror was clean. There were only three stalls which I imagine could be a problem on a busy night. We had not been to Outback for a long time. We were very impressed with our server, Riley. She had such a winning personality. However, we were a little shocked at the increased prices we found on the regular menu. We decided to try the Aussie 4-course menu. For my four courses, I had a cup of the baked potato soup, a wedge salad (up charge of $1.), a 6 oz., center cut sirloin, and cheesecake with chocolate sauce. My husband had the clam chowder soup (upcharge of $1.), blue cheese chopped salad (upcharge of $1.) and a 9 oz., center cut sirloin, and cheesecake with raspberry sauce. He enjoyed a very drinkable glass of Merlot with his dinner. The wedge salad was so large it took me awhile to get to my steak. I completely forgot to tell Riley to tell them to go easy on the seasoning. When I finally started to eat it, I realized it was way over seasoned for me and that the baked potato was still hard. Riley generously offered to replace it but we told her it was okay. We asked for our check. I guess Riley told the manager what I said about the steak, and he came over and again offered to replace and we told him it was okay. Well, unbeknownst to us, Jeff had them prepare me a new steak with no seasoning and a baked potato to go. Now that is what I call service! We waited quite awhile for the drinks to arrive, they didn't have what l wanted so l ordered something else. She left the table and came back and asked about apps. The oil must never be changed or the temp is never hot enough because everything is saturated in oil and taste the same. (4/7/2016) We hadn't been to Outback in a while, def not since the new renovation. It's def a touch more modern with the furniture, but still maintains a little of that old 80's hokey, post-Crocodile Dundee feel. Our memories must've really faded, we were looking forward to this visit, I think it was deliberate forgetfulness. The setting was fine, mostly. In a mostly empty restaurant on a weekday night, we were tightly seated into a banquette table between a party of 12 and a party of 2 adjoining. I understand you may be down servers and don't want to open up a new section, but it was a little like sitting n a communal cafeteria and a little off-putting. Our server was very efficient, we had to ask for a few things, that should've been set up for her, like silverware at the table by the busser or host (or GM), or salad dressing on the salad by the back of the house. She came by a few times for our orders and it was our fault we weren't ready. Of the four of us only one truly enjoyed their meal. I think, likely, we three chose poorly. Yes, should've known better not to get a crab cake at a steak house. Cake was pan-fried, mostly breading, weirdly pink, and not much crab to it at all. This being Maryland, one should just avoid any crab cake at any chain restaurant, ever. The side Baked Sweet Potato with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon was just fine, baked tender and moist. Also ordered Prime Rib Dip and Ribeye Steak Sandwich from the "Forkless Features." Not sure what we were thinking there either. Surely it was leftover meat cooked to well done and sliced for sandwiches and hidden under a blanket of cheese, condiments, and bread. Fries were plentiful, but starchy, looked heat-lamped and rather tough and chewy. Had a "premium" side (with upcharge) Blue Cheese Pecan Chopped Salad. I knew it sounded a little off in the menu description, but like I said, I think we were all in denial. Cinnamon sugar and blue cheese are just not a good combo. Salad came undressed, our very friendly waitress brought me a cup of dressing after I asked, and I'm almost sorry she did. It was described as a Blue Cheese Vinaigrette, it came it a small cup, was rather solid, and was indescribably unappetizing looking (think, pale, grey-green, blobby); tasted OK, a little tart, a little funky (like blue cheese should be). The Chopped Salad ingredients themselves also looking a little tired and brown around the edges. Be forewarned, Caesar Salads here are very garlicky, and croutons a little stale. The one truly good dish was the "Teriyaki Steak Medallions", with grilled peppers and red onions. Meat was well-seasoned and marinated and cooked as ordered, and came with a lovely looking coarse salt-crusted baked potato with plenty of butter and sour cream. Aside from walking into a chain restaurant and expecting a good meal with a soul, the other place we went wrong was to stray from what they advertise they do well: steak. Next time (if there ever is a next time), sticking to the standards, meat, potato, period. NOTE: The "Honey Wheat Bushman Bread" and honey butter they bring gratis to the table is still pretty damn good, as was the Bloomin' Onion, and ole' solid standard since 1988 (yes, it's been, 28 years). The bartender is terrific. Full of personality and gives wonderful attention and service. She makes it fun to sit at the bar. I haven't been to an outback in years so gave it a try. The bone-in ribeye was impressive. They season it and though I find it salty, it was perfectly cooked and was quite good. The vegetable was overcooked and appeared to be frozen. The mac and cheese I didn't care for. It was heavy and didn't have too much cheese. It was dry. The cab was good. Francis Coppola. A suggestion from the bartender. It's still an outback. A good makeover is in order like more interesting sides to go with the steak. Still, theres a lot of waitstaff and the restaurant is busy. There's a good vibe here. I typically don't bother reviewing chain restaurants because (1) I usually don't go to them, and (2) everyone has been to a food chain, so there's not really much different you would expect. But, my experience at Outback the past few times has just been so disappointing that I am compelled to right a review. Initially, the very thought of going to a chain, where I can get better food at a local mom and pop shop for the same price, better price, and without the frills was somewhat irking. (yes, I admit that I am coming from a biased position). Yet, when I got to the restaurant and saw the people in line, I somehow felt "good" - maybe this place isn't so bad after all, it seems like a cool place, there are a ton of people, "sure, why not?" Atmosphere was great, service wasn't too bad; that gives it the extra star. Food items on the menu looked fantastic, as were the names - again reprimanding my initial feeling - "wow, maybe I was too hard on this place before" - and bringing about a sense of excitement and real craving for the food (they stretched the wait as usual). And $13.99 for a 9 oz. cut of steak! But, when the food arrived, the emperor's new clothes were revealed. Here's the break-down: Brown Bread: I liked that it was warm and freshly baked, but the flavor of the bread just wasn't there, it was bland and certainly didn't taste fresh. The butter didn't help either, it wasn't the fluffy kind that at least a place like Waffle House does a good job providing. Coconut Shrimp: I still remember the days (maybe 10 years ago now?) when Outback provided a succulent plate of 6 jumbo shrimp, bursting with the fresh natural flavor of the shrimp and coated with the nice coconut shrimp batter. Maybe I was more victim to their marketing then, but this time I bit into an overly burnt batter that seemed to lack substance and into lukewarm, slimy shrimp that largely under-stated the size of the batter. They weren't bad, just not as good as they used to be when this chain was brand new. Caesar Salad: I'm not sure if it just wasn't enough dressing, but the salad tasted bitter. The greens looked very fresh, but certainly didn't taste that way. I would prefer the Caesar Salads provided by Olive Garden over this one. But, again, not terrible. Rib-eye: This is what I got. At initial bite, the meat was cooked fine, but was a bit chewier than I was expecting. Needless to say, I've had some great steaks from the likes of Flemings and Ruth's Chris, etc. (on my company dollar of course), so I wouldn't say this was too bad. $20 seems priced about right for this one. Outback-Special: There's a reason why you can get a steak for under $15 and a first bite into this beef jerky of a meat will reveal why. The funny thing is that the meat is cooked medium rare, appears rare, but tastes and chews like it's well done. You chew into this meat and it's that hard flavorless kind that leaves a string of somethings between your tongue and teeth. I need to stop with the descriptions because all-in-all, this is an AWFUL steak and not worth your money. I certainly have cooked much better tasting steaks from the cuts on sale at the local grocery store on my foreman grill when I was in college. This was so disappointing that I had to drop a star from the rating. The sides: not bad! At least, the sweet potato fries and the sweet potato with honey butter were spot on. Fries were crispy and flavorful, albeit a bit greasy. Sweet potato was cooked perfectly - tender and soft, warm, flavorful. I will admit Outback does a good job with the sides. Altogether, I would say, if you're looking for a good family or friend experience on the budget, then this should be a tolerable eat (just be willing to spend a bit more than the cheap Outback Special cuts). But, if you're looking for at least medium quality meat (the kind you can get at a grocery store) and you tend to be the type that gets disappointed by poor quality food that is highly advertised, then I would avoid this place like the plague. And, regardless, of who you are, don't get the Outback Special! I would recommend the rib-eye. read more

I know that Outback is a chain and all of them are essentially the same, but I can't help but love this place every time I come here. The menu rarely changes (except for an occasional upgrade) and many people might be bored by this, but I find comfort in that. I love that I know exactly what I'm going to get without even looking at the menu (but of course I always analyze it anyway). Here's my usual: the Aussie cheese fries, chicken on the barbie, and sangria or a martini. I know, there's nothing special about that, but it is soooo good! The Aussie cheese fries are probably the most fattening thing on the menu, but they are too good to pass up! And don't forget about the bread! I'm not sure what kind it is exactly, but they always refill if you want more. But in terms of chain restaurants, this is definitely one of the better brands with something for everyone. read more

The only criticism I have is that it took awhile for the hostess to notice there were diners (us) waiting to be seated. She explained that someone had called out sick, so it appeared that they were short-handed. Ok yes, Outback is a chain. I have been coming to this location for a few years now and I think they have excellent service. So often is it easy to be left in the shuffle on a busy Friday or Saturday night. I have always been seated fairly quickly (they do call ahead seating!), and had servers that were quick and efficient yet very patient If I needed a minute. My water glass has never been dry, I guess my wine glass for that matter too! Sitting at the bar or at a table I have always had a very pleasant experience. I really like that they have a "healthy" menu now. I think the 6oz. Outback special can't be beat price- $9.99 for a steak and two sides!?!?
