UPDATE to my review from 10/23/20 After seeing my reviews on Yelp and Google the manager from Outbox called me and apologized for the Finance Department not sending me my invoices and then promptly sent me my invoice. He included a month free for the trouble which was very nice of them. I am still only leaving 4 stars because it should not take negative reviews for them to reply to their customers. But if the service improves and stays consistent- I'll definitely update again to a beautiful 5 star review. read more

I wish I'd never heard of this company. They were fast with the phone calls to set up the move, and fast to take a deposit, but then showed up hours late and were unresponsive when I called to find out where the hell the truck was. It was supposed to have been a morning's project; instead, the movers were finishing up at seven at night. They would not give me straight answers, and their offer to discount the price for the delay never happened despite my communications with them. All they needed to have done was to keep the appointment and not lie about being late. That's all. Instead, I was terrified they were not going to show up at all. I left a review after their services, they had the nerve to then text me telling me I'm rude. When they charged me an extra $100 for the headboard and box spring, when I told them about it. They then couldn't get the box spring into my new place. I had to cut it up after they wouldn't even take it. Now I have to spend more money to buy a new one. They can take your money no problem but can't do their job. And when you call them out on it, you get texts like these, so unprofessional!! They then tried to backtrack and apologize and offer a discount on my next move. They can take their discount and shove it! I've dealt with moving companies several times in the past 5 years, as my husband and I have moved quite a bit for work. This was by FAR the least professional and most horrifying experience we have ever had. One condition of choosing a mover (talked to 5+ companies) was that I needed the movers at our apartment by 8am. Sure, the nice woman on the phone told me...they will be there at 8am. Therefore, I chose Outbox. Movers show up one hour late at 9:00 am, no in-person apology for being late. Rather, the minute they step into our apartment, they start counting each and every item, even charging us for a plastic "table" as if it was made of mahogany. It weighs about 8 lbs. To avoid a surcharge, my husband and I start moving our own things into our cars. We move to the new apartment, where they hold our belongings ransom unless we agree to pay an extra $320. We say no unless we are able to speak to a manager. They say manager is unable to speak with us. We pay the $320 extra because we need to get on with our day. The only concession they were going to give was waiving a $100 "long hallway" fee (despite freight elevators at both buildings reserved for them) because they were late. Will spare the details but long story short, they're closing their storage and gave us about 5 days to move out. They charged full price for the move (that I did not want or request) AND charged me for a full month of storage despite having to move out mid-month. The first item I showed them they left. It was a bookcase that was part of the inventory. Was so busy talking to building super and getting to new place. All said, it was too big to fit in my small SUV and I had to be out. They would not return to pick it up once I realized it was missed. On moving day, Blake showed up on time and took extreme care of packing my furniture and personal belongings. The scheduled delivery date was for 8/11 and on 8/10 I received a call that the drive was on the way and the delivery time frame. To my surprise Blake was personally bringing my stuff, felt great to know that the person that packed my stuff was the person that was bringing it.  All my furniture and personal belongings were intact and Blake and his team put everything in place. I have moved a LOT in my life and in several different countries and this is the worst experience I've ever had with a mover. I was scheduled to move on a Thursday 4 pm and, as people do, had all sorts of appointments with Taskrabbits and technicians and utilities folks set up for the Friday after. I'm all packed and waiting when at 3:45 I get a call saying that the movers will no longer be showing up that day due to 'delays' (no further explanation) and that they were rescheduling for Friday. They offered me a measly 10 percent discount in return. When I explained that this would cost me 1) a vacation day 2) hundreds of dollars in last minute Taskrabbit cancellation fees 3) weeklong delays in getting my internet thus disrupting my work, I was told brusquely there was nothing to be done. When I said I need to be compensated more than ten percent for this incompetence, I was told no. When I asked for at least a guarantee that the movers WOULD show up Friday, I was asked why I kept asking for guarantees. Uh, because that's kindof an implied requirement when paying for an important service? Thankfully, the move itself went OK on the Friday and the crew were efficient. However, I still haven't gotten that ten percent discount two weeks later, my follow up emails were initially ignored. I finally got a response after saying I'd be posting some reviews online but that was to the effect of 'processing your refund will take a little longer' and with no timeline. Again - it's been two weeks. I'm used to movers being late, to movers damaging stuff, to movers being idiosyncratic but a mover to simply not show up on the scheduled day is unprecedented in my experience. What if I had a job to start the day after? Or had to vacate an old apartment on deadline for another tenant? My situation was relatively uncomplicated and Outbox's incompetence STILL cost me literally hundreds of dollars in cancellation fees and a very precious PTO day (whose cash value isn't insignificant). And to make things worse, the lack of support, the ignoring of my (very polite) follow ups and their failure to process (two weeks down the line) that insulting ten percent discount that I'm no doubt going to have to chase them for weeks for if I even get it at all. Communication with Outbox is extremely easy and convenient from beginning to end. In my own experience, as long as you can provide enough details about your moving inventory, you should not worry about hidden/additional fees. By the time our mover Carlos got to our place, it was piece of cake. He was nice, respectful and professional and did his best to be careful with all of our furniture. I cannot put into words how convenient and easy Outbox made our entire move. Just as they promised, everything was carefully placed in our new apartment, for a flat fee paid upfront. Worked with Ali to set up the move. He was extremely professional. They did a zoom call to see my apartment, which I was really impressed with. After the zoom call, they gave me a quote that was flat rate (no hidden fees). This was the differentiating feature between Outbox & other moving companies. Others charge hourly & have a minimum charge. The day of moving, Albert & 2 other men showed up. Albert was really professional & packed everything very nicely. By far the worse move ever and worst day in years; I ended up moving the 2nd half of my stuff on my own making the final moving day a 13 hour disaster?!! I wish I used Yelp more often for things not food related, then maybe i would have avoided them. I will simply say if you want or ENJOY adding extreme STRESS to your already challenging move(s), non-stop calls or like to be scammed - then this is the choice for you. They don't assess the move, movers argued amongst themselves, barely made eye contact and were not careful at all; (scraping the wall, damaging the base of the couch, all within the first 20 minutes). It's as if the meter was running or they wer trying to break a speed record. The company cares about is increasing your cost without the quality of service. I would like to preface this review with I wish that I could give them a .25 star rating... This was the worst experience and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. They gave me a 2-4pm window of arrival. I called an hour into this time slot for an update on arrival, they told me that I would receive a call back, which NEVER happened. I had been waiting around for almost 3 hours for them to show up without even a courtesy call that they were going to be late. I called their boss to see if they could remedy the situation for my time wasted, again, he said he would call be back in 5 mins and never did. The men arrive and the head worker Alex, said that I needed to pay them upfront, before they got started. I told him that I was waiting for a call back in 5 mins from Mark, their boss to see if he could remedy the situation, which he then replied, OK THEN WE ARE LEAVING. I said I've been waiting here for almost 3 hours, and I am waiting for a call back, can you wait 5 mins? He said no, then told his men that they were all leaving, and instructed them not to pack anything. I felt very threatened by him. I paid him and he started working. While watching, two of my fragile boxes were dropped, while breaking a few of my glasses. The way that this was taken care of, was an absolute disgrace from top to bottom, and they will do nothing to ensure that their customer are happy with the service provided. Outbox Moving and Storage did an amazing job unpacking my furniture and boxes. I recently moved from Dallas to Queens. I used a container service to move my stuff. I had to coordinate a day/time that the container company could bring the container. I had only 2 days available to do this. I was in a conundrum. I needed movers to unload the container on the days that the container could be brought over. And to boot, I had a 4 hour time window to get it all done! Outbox Moving and Storage were my saving grace. Not only did they accommodate my day, but also my time window. The manager, Alex, was very polite and communicated in a very timely manner throughout the entire process. Plus, he gave me the best quote out of 5 other moving services! The movers, Dulat and Daniyar, were not only on time, but actually early! And here's where Outbox really shined. I originally booked 3 men (since time was a factor) but one got sick at the last minute (hey, it happens). But the movers were extremely accommodating to this and were able to unload the container and move it up to my second story apartment in only one extra hour. The manager even checked in with the movers at the end of the original time frame to make sure I was being taken care of. I've rarely seen this level of customer service anywhere. I cannot recommend Outbox Moving and Storage enough. You'll talk to Alex to book, but ask for Dulat and Daniyar. read more

BEWARE, Outbox Moving and Storage provides fake quotes for their moving services with the intention to mislead and deceive customers. They give you a lower quote and then they call you before the moving takes place to increase it, so once the customer already submitted a deposit and spent an hour organizing everything, the chances are that he will stay with the company regarding the "last minute increase". They are dishonest from the very beginning. A few days ago, I was away and two family members called for a quote, which was provided incorrectly by phone, twice. Both received a phone call stating that the quote was incorrect and that they had to increase it. Pathetic, money hungry people. These guys don't know what they are doing, they outsource their customer service and the ones on the other side of the phone are clueless, here and overseas. Any company employee can make a mistake, but in this case it was two different people providing the incorrect quote, which was lower than the real one. They ended up cancelling the job because of a $100 mistake. I am glad they are not doing any more work for my family, I do not want them inside our house ever again. Dishonest, untrustworthy, deceiving people. Alex the supervisor is resentful, rude and unapologetic. A few months ago, I hired them to do two moving jobs, they seemed nice and we gave them a $70 tip to each of them as a way to show our appreciation. We and the movers were the only ones in the house. Unfortunately, one of these guys ended up taking my father's expensive drill (I want to believe that by mistake). I found out that later on, luckily within the deadline to file a claim. As of today, Outbox continues to ignore our claim and did not even have the decency to apologize for the inconvenience. Crappy company. read more

It was the most unprofessional, traumatic moving experience. When nothing was getting done I had to move many, many items myself. I found Outbox from a bid on Thumbtack. Carlos and Eddie were our moving team. They went above and beyond to get us packed up and moved in quickly. We had a lot of stuff in our one bedroom apartment - too much for that little place - so we needed to move to a larger one. Outbox brought all the materials and got us packed up the day before the move, then showed up on time to get us moved out of the old and into the new. We also added on a partial unpacking service which had them help us arrange furniture, unbox most of our stuff, and haul away the boxes. The team was courteous and friendly, and they really took good care of our stuff. Nothing was damaged or broken. I have two suggestions for Outbox to help me feel more at ease with the process: 1) A confirmation call the day before a scheduled move would be amazing. I am a nervous nelly and want to make sure things are going as expected ahead of time. 2) I needed a COI for both the place I was moving out of as well as the place I was moving in to. The process could be streamlined, because I never heard if the COI was delivered to the properties; when I checked with the supers in both places, neither had received it yet so I had to follow up with Outbox to make sure it got taken care of. It did, though again I wasn't informed when the problem was addressed. Neither issue were a deal breaker, but they did spike my anxiety. read more

I had a great first move with Outbox but unfortunately the second experience was unpleasant. I called the day before my move to confirm the price with the representative that helped me set up the move. After confirming with him, I went to the ATM to get cash for the move + tip as well as water bottles for the movers. However, when the movers arrived, they told me that the price was actually over 100 dollars more! I tried calling the representative that I had been working with but he did not answer. The foreman then called his boss who I felt was rude. His response was mostly along the lines of do you want your stuff back or not. I wish he would have apologized for the discrepancy and been more understanding of why this was upsetting. I also never got a written bill from the foreman that day - his only evidence for the new price was a text message! I don't really think it's acceptable to get one price the day before the move and then another price on the day off with no apology from the company. I had to frantically run to the atm to get the additional money after trying the day before to make sure everything was setup for a smooth move. I am upset that this happened because there are aspects of Outbox that I really liked ( their promptness, the tracking system to see where the movers are) and I had written a glowing review for them in the past. Better customer service over the price discrepancy would have gone a long way! read more

I chose to believe the 5 star reviews over the 1 star and boy do I regret it! I was given an arrival time window between 2pm-4pm but was assured and promised they would be there at 2 since my new building has regulation hours and moves must be done between 8:30-6. I called around 3:30 asking for an ETA and they give me every excuse: they can not locate the truck, cannot find the movers, they are in traffic, things happen, they will be there by 4 etc etc. Well. 4PM came and went and guess who never showed up? THESE GUYS! Not even a courtesy phone call. Oh and did I mention I had to call maybe 15 times before I even got through? They put me on hold half of those times and I had to demand I get my deposit back. I lost a day of work and am unable to schedule the move until next week and now have to rely on someone to orchestrate this move as I can no longer take any days off work for this. The most unprofessional, inconsiderate company and I implore you to choose ANYONE else instead of them. I tried to go the small business route and support but trust and believe I rather pay more money for a much more reliable company. EDIT: Shortly after posting this review I received a call offering to move my things on Monday at no additional cost (as a courtesy for having completely missed the appointment earlier in the day). I do want to make it clear that at no point prior to this did they try to contact me. After some hesitation I agreed to the Monday move, as I would be able to save some money since now I have to pay 4 additional days to stay at this place until my furniture was able to go to my new apartment. I confirmed and requested a confirmation email with the date and time, reflecting the move would be complimentary. He said he would make sure I received it but that he was not currently in the office. I understood being as it was around 7PM and the day before a national holiday (July 4th). I didn't receive a confirmation by the 5th at 11AM and I reached out to him about it. He told me he would have it sent in 15 minutes. It is now past 5PM and you guessed it! No confirmation email. I obviously cannot take the risk of them not showing up yet again and they have now proven a few times over how unreliable they are as a company. I was able to coordinate my move with FlatRate movers which I'll admit are a bit more expensive BUT I was able to coordinate everything in just a few moments and the representatives assisting me, Cory & Justin, were absolutely fantastic. If you are looking for movers I wholeheartedly recommend them - their number is 212-988-9292. 2nd Update: Checked spam, no email. You made 1 call JUST now and left NO messages. Day of, you made no attempts to call me I can show phone records. I did not cancel my "second move" as nothing was confirmed in writing & I even called YOU to request said confirmation and no email was sent. Please return my deposit or I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau. PS. A 5PM move with a building restriction of 6PM does not work. I requested a service within a specific time frame and an hour late is not acceptable. read more

Alex came to my apartment and gave me a reasonable estimate to move and informed me of what to expect on moving day. He was extremely patient and answered all my questions. On moving day, Alex and Nick showed up on time and took extreme care in packing my personal belongings. They were polite and cleaned up after themselves. I would give them zero if I could. Be ready to be stressed out and cornered when you book with these guys. I received an estimate of 376 dollars for 2:45 to 4 hours of job and they wanted to charge me 1128 because I had more stuff and it would take 7 to 8 hours. What I had extra was boxes ( 90 instead of 30) but I was never told I would be charged by number of boxes. The most expensive quote I had was 800 dollars and these guys weren't going to do it with that either. Long story short they left me and my stuff wanting triple the estimate not even doubled. I am going to take legal action against them as I am sure there is some sort of consumer rights law out there. But just so you know what to expect when you book with them. Also I found movers that are moving my stuff for a reasonable price so I wasn't try to play game or not pay them. This is my last respond to you and I do this because I don't want anyone else to be put in this situation! This is an example of providing a low rate to a customer to get their business and wanting to charge them triple the amount on spot because you think they are desperate. This is an example of scam and unfair business by not providing customer with details they need to know. If you are such an exact business you should have come and survey the apartment or have informed me the amount of detail required. There are consumer laws against that and against charging outrageously against industry benchmark which is what you were doing this morning. I have many documented quotes for a range of prices including the price I offered you so it wasn't about me not wanting to pay or negotiate. But you clearly were unprepared for this move and not a fair and reputable business. The move didn't need 8 hours. Thanks for sending the contracts. I am going to do my best so you don't get to do this to anyone else and cause anyone else this much distress. Please do not contact me until you hear from my lawyer. read more

I was told to be at residence at 7AM By 730, tried to get some info as to where they were, 8 No Show or call 9 No show or call. Was told they were had truck problems...was told that last night...at 9 PM I was told it would arrive today around 7. Here it is 2 PM NO STUFF I dont buy off on the fact that at 9 PM last night they were unaware of "truck problems" They told me no other trucks were available. One of the worst experiences that I am experiencing. They moved me and during the process of my move the broke a piece of my table. I have more then a month that I have moved and they continue to give me the run around. Every week they say that they will replace it. Replace the piece or give me a refund so I can buy a new piece of funiture. Now I have a beautiful house and can't even sit at the dinning room table to eat dinner with our family.
