Amazing customer service today from Anthony! My son has been begging to go fishing for the first time. We were directed to the Outdoor Pro Shop by friends. My husband and I have ZERO fishing experience. Have to say, the service here is awesome!! Could not be more impressed with the quality of the staff and the level of service they provide. I snapped a rod yesterday, and today, and they made sure it was sent out under warranty. Also, they respooled my current reel for free!! I had to choose another rod, so they helped me get a nice one for a decent price. The other one was for heavier fish, i.e. steelhead. Of course it's not that season anymore. Kudos to these guys. Bonus points for the fact that they had employees there that were knowledgable about all of the different species and were able to get me new suggestions for the hottest new gear available. They have a good selection of tray bait as well. Also, if you have a broken rod or reel they are able to help you out and give you all of your options to get it repaired or replaced. It's like having a Google search for fishing gear show up right in front of you. I have never been in this place and couldn't find what I was looking for. The have everything from ultra light fresh water to heavy salt. Including down riggers and crabbing gear down to clothing, waders and every fishing accessory you can think of. Rods, reels and fishing lines that go on forever. The only way they can make it better is if they provided a bag of popcorn to enjoy while you browse. We're has this store been all this time!? I got to get down to Rohnert Park more often. I'm heading up to the Rogue River tomorrow (Sunday, Oct 27th) for three days of steelhead stalking and realized I needed to upgrade my Spey outfit to a Skagit line with sinking tip and a NEW reel, line and backing. You can tell you're in the right place when you walk in and ask for the "Spey" guy (Spey rods are two handed, big rods 13' long!) and they yelled out, "Josh!". Josh was terrific. He fishes fly and new all about my requested tackle information. He got me set up, loaded the backing (got an extra 50 yards for free!), picked out a great reel, my requested size Skagit and sinking tips and loaded it all on and I got out of there in 45 minutes! A real, smart, savvy fishing guy. Just what you need when exploring new fishing experiences and equipment. Can't recommend him any higher. But I was also impressed by the SIZE of the place. Where some tackle/fishing stores give a corner to flying fishing, these guys had a good section set aside. Terrific prices on stream jackets and all the major brands, "Sims", "Clearwater", "Reddington". I'll be back. The only caveat--if you're a fly guy be prepared to put a dent in your checking account as you'll want to buy, buy, buy!! read more

I travel a lot for work and enjoy checking out different tackle shops up and down the California coast. Most shops are helpful and friendly, but I recently had an experience with outdoor pro shop's (Monsterfishingtackle.com) Oakland and Cotati store staff that's blown other shops away. I was fishing out of Port San Luis CA and the rockfishing has been on fire, particulary using Shimano Lucanis jigs. They are expensive and as I've found, somewhat hard to find. After an epic day of using them earlier this week, I found myself out of these jigs. You'd think that a fishing mecca such as the central california coast would be a place you'd easily find replacements - but no luck. I called several shops and no one carried them. My search soon extended to the Santa Barbara area - where a surfer-sounding brah told me they had one or two, but couldnt tell me the size and wouldnt hold them for me (about 3 hours round trip where I was at). I tried Hi's tackle shop in San Francisco, and has been my experience with their internet business before, they really gave the impression that they could care less if they could help or not. I then called the Outdoor Pro Tackle shop, and their oakland staff said the internnet biz up in Cotati could hook me up. I called and yup, they were johny on the spot. The Staff went out of their way to check on special over night delivery, called me back, took the order, and sent it down to me. They even threw in a note thanking me for the order like they were an old pal helping me out in a jam - and it was my first internet order. By taking 20 mins to help a guy out like they did, Outdoor Pro/Monstertackle.com just earned themselves a customer for life. Sad that most other shops and big name catalogs wouldnt do this - but as long as this place does, who cares. They've earned my business. Give them a shot! read more

There simply is no better place in the north bay for fishing gear and tackle. The staff is great and willing to take whatever amount of time needed. They have experts in all the types of fishing in each section so you always feel like your getting great advice. They are low pressure and don't work on commission. They have a huge selection and a very wide range of products from bonkers expensive pro lines to beginners. The storeroom is giant and they have just about anything you would need. These guys are great! Had a minor problem with an internet order, item I ordered was out of stock, and they called me and replaced it with a more expensive item, and did not charge me for the cost even though I offered to pay the extra. Then when order arrived, an item was not what I ordered. Called the customer service, and found out the item was not labeled correctly on web page. Not only did they return the purchase price, but told my to keep the items I did receive. Once again even though I offered to return them! I had never bought anything from these folks before, but with this kind of customer service this will not be my last time dealing with this outfit. I am a new fisherman and have fallen in love with this wonderful sport. I am from the Palm Springs area and had a wedding to attend in Northern California. I looked up the best spot on yelp for tackle and was quickly attracted to outdoor pro shop! I arrived into town with only an hour to spare before my wedding duties would occur and headed off to outdoor pro shop. I was helped by a man named Allen I believe, and boy oh boy he was the real deal. The gentleman not only helped me but spooled my reel, gave suggestions, recommendations, and was always there for any questions I had. I have had many of experiences at bigger brand tackle shops that really ruined my shopping experience. I am new at the game and want to learn, I never felt uncomfortable here.The team members are passionate and really just want to pass there knowledge to whomever walks through there doors. Ok here's my story, I'm a large mouth bass fisherman I was asked to go on a salmon fishing trip by a friend and didn't want to look like a rookie. One of the sales associates (who I found out later was the owner) Mike spent 20 min. Teaching me everything I needed to know about fishing and catching salmon. Walked me through finding an affordable pole , lures, weights, showed me how to set up my line, and even loaned me a reel so I wouldn't have to spend hundreds of dollars for a one time trip.
