This review has been delayed about 2 years. Since I first got tattooed here, I've had pieces done at Full Circle Tattoo in San Diego, Trusted Tattoo in Corona and will be getting 2 half sleeves finished at White Lotus Tattoo. I've gone here a total of 4 times. I've been tattooed by Russ twice, Shorty and Paul. Honestly, this place is ridiculously overpriced. They have an $80 minimum, so even something like a letter (which I did actually get) will be $80. If you're looking to get script, I would go somewhere else. If you're a first timer getting a tattoo, I would avoid Russ. The review below me is absolutely right in saying he has a "I'm too good for this attitude". There is a look of annoyance on his face if you want something slightly adjusted, which I don't really understand seeing as how what you're getting is permanent. Shorty is definitely on the chattier side and very friendly. I don't know personally how well-rounded these artists are because I've never gotten anything aside from scripts, but the price is crazy. As far as the script that I've gotten, none of it is crooked and the lines are crisp to this day (first started coming here around winter 2011). read more

800TH REVIEW, JERKS!!! And my mom's stomach just dropped seeing the kind of place I'm reviewing. To be honest, I hadn't ever seriously entertained the idea of more piercings than the two unremarkable holes in each earlobe that I've had for 18 years, but then I randomly looked at Outer Limits's pics on Yelp and saw some of the custom industrials Gregg makes. I decided almost immediately that I wanted one, and two weeks later was getting holes punched through my ear. Mind you, I live over an hour away; I looked around online for local places that have these unique industrials, but didn't see anything resembling 'em (even at the other Outer Limits locations), so to Costa Mesa I went. Gregg is awesome. He genuinely cares about what he's doing and that you're getting what you want, and he's honest about what will and won't work; after donning a glove and rooting around in my friend's snooter, he explained that my friend's septum is asymmetrical and a piercing through it would be crooked. My friend opted out, but Gregg could of course have said nothing about that, just Sure let's do it, and then I'd have a sad friend with an asymmetrical septum piercing. We also discussed what sort of design I'll want later to decide where my new holes would go (helix and conch), and Gregg explained what would be plausible to make. I have no doubt this shop takes pride in how sterile everything is, from how the jewelry was physically handled (or pointed to under the glass with a pen, not a finger) to Gregg's wearing a surgical mask when piercing me. My jewelry went in the autoclave before it touched me, and there are various signs around the shop explaining why they don't want you to touch your own piercings, etc. Gregg said he even wears gloves when he pumps gas. THAT'S HOW CLEAN HE IS. I'm sure Gregg has pierced labias that belong to women less nervous than I was about just my ear, but he was kind nevertheless about assuaging my fears and gave me a full explanation before a needle even touched me about proper aftercare, as well as recommending I come in about once monthly so he could see how I'm healing; he also invited me to stop in if I even vaguely suspect something might be going wrong. I got a wordy pamphlet as well in case I forgot what to do, and a bag of sea salt with instructions on how to mix it and soak my ear twice a day. Gregg explained what he would be doing, carefully marked where the holes would go and got my approval on 'em, encouraged deep breathing, gave me as much time as I wanted between the two holes I got, and had me stay lying down when he was done to make sure I wouldn't pass out after the piercings were complete. I was cleaned up really well and sent along my way to go get a medicinal milkshake (his suggestion, that or tequila). Since then, I've emailed Gregg with questions, and he responded within a couple hours and said I could even email him pictures if I wanted so he could get a better idea of what was going on (which was nothing). Totally stoked about the custom piece I'll get in a few months (he won't put it in until I'm 100% healed and we're going to discuss before then; he also prefers some time to perfect what he's making you so you're happy and he's confident he's giving you the best piece he can craft), and I'll update my review then. There may be a line ahead of you, and the piercers don't take appointments; they also won't pierce you near to closing time because they need to clean up/sterilize/etc. Allot time accordingly if you're going in to get jabbed. read more

Although I had to wait for quite some time, I was okay with that because I saw that they truly care about the quality of their service and the well-being and happiness of the customer. The lady who got her nipples done and the girl who did her belly button came out without any signs of pain. I was actually amazed. Personally, I've been wanting to get an Industrial for a really long time, and I was going to wait until after chinese new years, but one day I didn't feel like waiting any longer. I went in a spontaneous moment, and I think that was the best thing I've done in a long time. Gregg was SOOOOOOOO awesome!!! I've told all my friends about him and if I ever decide to get another piercing, I will definitely come back to him. Gregg was so nice. He made sure that my ear was compatible for an industrial, instead of trying to make money out of me. He carefully looked at my ear and he molded a custom industrial for me!! I was SOOOOOOOO happpy!! I visited Outer Limits two days ago to see about making an appointment for the next day, yesterday. I was greeted quickly and assisted in finding someone to tattoo me the next day. They had Russ available and since I'd never been there or heard anything about them, I said anyone was fine. Russ came and chatted with me about what I wanted, I put my deposit down and left in excitement for my tattoo to come! I went in for my appointment yesterday and Russ greeted me and went and got everything ready. He gave me a whole page full of font options I wanted for my quote and then set up the area after my decision. He got right to it and let me tell you, I am absolutely in LOVE with my tattoo!! It is gorgeous! The lines are perfect and font & lining of it all looks absolutely amazing. Russ is very relaxed and chill, and made it a breeze. I would absolutely go back to him. He has art up on the walls in the shop so take a look around and see his detail...his tattoos will be nothing less brilliant. His personality isn't overwhelming and I enjoyed my experience. The shop is very clean and well put together. They're also very informative and willing help with whatever you need. My friend got her nose pierced while I was there and was very impressed. He told her to come back in a month to check on it and see how it's doing. They also give you a lot of aftercare info for everything. You won't be disappointed here! A+ guys! I've been itching to get either a new piercing or tattoo for the past week or so. My final decision was to get inked. Considering I live so close to this spot and it had great reviews, I decided to call them for an appointment. To my dismay, they informed me that they didn't make tattoo appointments over the phone. It had to be done in person so that they can consult with you on the piece. It makes total sense... So later in the afternoon I headed over there. Omg, the place was packed. I was a bit surprised considering its a Friday afternoon, I mean... Don't you people work or go to school? Apparently most of these people were here for piercings so the place did get less crowded. Upon arrival i was greeted by their piercer. Since I didn't have a particular artist in mind he told me to go through their portfolios and choose the artist I like. Less than five minutes later, Mario asked if I've been helped and I told him I had a small piece that I wanted to get done. I showed him the piece, which is a Burmese writing. He asked when I wanted to get this done. I said whenever... He replays with "how about now". Awesome! Exactly what I wanted to hear. So I had him redraw the writing because my sample was in italic font and I wanted regular. He took his time making sure it was exactly as I wanted, even having him alter a few things. He was real cool about it and finally I was ready to get inked. It took about 1.5 hours of wait and prep and another hour getting tatted. Almost 3 hours later and $100.00 plus a $30.00 tip, I'm 100% satisfied. The black ink is obviously nice and dark, you can tell its quality work. I have other ink done on my body and this is one of my favorite thus far. I'm really glad they were able to squeeze me in that day! The place is real clean, located inside the camp. The quality of their work is awesome, real friendly and the price is reasonable. I'm definitely hitting this spot again. read more

He was -clear (explained everything and answered every questions i had), -super friendly (he was teasing and cracking jokes with my friend and i), -SO CHARISMATIC (he told me everything he was doing through the whole piercing process and kept trying to relax me... and it worked) i got my CONCH pierced and with the bag of salt he gave me, it healed in no time! yeah, my ear was throbbing for the first twenty minutes but after, it felt like nothing was there! my ear has fully healed and it's been about 2 months. a little pricey, but definitely worth the security. wondering why its five stars? because Gregg is definitely as good as it gets. he loves answering questions so if you're unsure about anything just ask! read more

Purchased a $66 dollar belly button piercing and they couldn't even install it for me lol! This place has horrible customer service.

Definitely would recommend this tattoo shop to anyone. I am a fan of traditional/american tattoos and Andrew Baysinger nailed it. As soon as you walk in the door, you can immediately feel the friendly vibe from all the employees. They always make sure you're being assisted and direct you to the best artist that fits your needs (can only speak about tattoos, but I would assume the customer service for piercings is the same). Andrew, who did the artwork for my tattoo, was a super chill dude and very talented. My session took about 5 hours, maybe an hour over my expectations, but I'm very glad he took his time with my piece. He made sure that it would look as good as possible and gave me a lot of info on how to take care of, etc. This shop also gives you this ointment called Hustle Butter, that's supposed to be applied for about a week before you switch over to lotion. It's been about 3 days and it's starting to peel like normal and looks good (no infections or anything). The shops pricing for tattoos is about 150/hr, but I was charged a little less than that which was super cool. $100 deposit when you book your appointment, which goes towards the final cost of your tattoo. Once again, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking to get a tattoo. They have two locations; Long Beach and Costa Mesa. read more

My first time at outer limits and I got my ears re pierced because it closed up. I had gotten my ears pierced at a cheap place at the mall before and the front hole and back were unfortunately misaligned so I had to dig through my ear also my piercing was uneven. Totally different experience here. The staff all wears masks and they have hand sanitizer available so I felt safe during this time. I could also tell they had sanitized the room before I went in. Gregg was my piercer and he did such a great job! Super informative and attentive. Also hardly noticed any pain during the piercing process and he is super fast! I also noticed that after the piercing I barely had any swelling or pain. I have sensitive skin so this was my fourth time piercing my ears because of my allergies because my ears got infected even when they supposedly used gold or silver. But the materials they used at Outer limits didn't irritate my ears at all. The back stud is also noticeably WAY more comfortable. I didn't even know that was a factor. I've got to say it was well worth the cost to get it done right/professionally. Nothing but great things to say about them. Everything is online too so you don't even need to touch a pen and the appointment system was really fast and convenient too. All in all for any piercing needs I'm definitely booking Gregg! The after care saline is also a spray which I love as opposed to like swabbing liquid onto a cotton pad. read more

I can't speak highly enough of my (continuing) experiences with Outer Limits and with Will Thompson in particular. Will has been working on my Starry Night shoulder cap for almost a year now (mostly my fault as money has required long stretches in between sessions). Yes, you read that correct - he is replicating Vincent Van Gogh's masterpiece on my arm and is doing an AMAZING job. I searched for a long time to find an artist that I felt could do the subject matter justice and Will has completely blown me away. I can't tell you the amount of compliments and plain awestruck comments I get about my tattoo. I uploaded a photo of it - I think you can figure out which one is mine. :) Will has been very professional and helpful throughout the process and always tries to make me laugh when he sees that I'm having a hard time with the pain. I absolutely love this place. It's clean, sterile, professional and warm. I've been going to get my work done by Russ and he's by far the only person I've gone to that has made me feel totally comfortable, respected, and calm with. I've had him do scripts for me and each time he has spent time listening and making sure it was exactly what I wanted. While he's doing the tattoo he makes it super comfortable and calm. He doesn't force you into small talk which for me is a big plus. His work is impeccable and soulful. Also the shop manager samara is awesome. She's always welcoming and professional and a force. 5 stars for a perfect visit. I came on a Friday, around 1:30 (which seemed to be a peak hour). There were several people in the shop as well and immediately I was greeted by Mario, who then asked what I needed. He and Shorty worked out their schedule quickly and told me I'd be looking at about a 20 minute wait if their appointment fails to show. However, I waited a little less than hour since they did show. Shorty settled my paperwork and design. She then made a stencil and made sure I was perfectly fine with the placement. Since it was my first tattoo, she also made sure that I was comfortable and offered me as many breaks as I needed. I had a three word quote tattoo (alis volat propriis) which took no longer than 30 minutes and costed $100 + $15 tip. I was entirely satisfied with my trip and will be bringing in a friend tomorrow for her first tattoo as well! read more

What can I say about Gregg other than that he's a real pro. Not only is he professional and excellent with customer service - he's just a cool dude with mad skills. Are nipple piercings painful? Of course. But not any more so than getting your ears pierced. I went to see Gregg a few weeks ago to get my nose re-pierced and it was such a positive experience. He was super friendly, asked me what kind of jewelry I like and then gave some suggestions and showed me all the jewelry I wanted to see. He didn't rush me or seem annoyed when I wanted to see more than a few pieces. The piercing itself was the least painful piercing experience I've ever had. He took the time to go over all of the after care instructions since it had been a long time since I had last pierced my nose. After I got home, I realized that the jewelry I chose was a little too big (I work for a super conservative company and didn't want to push it). I emailed Gregg that night and he responded right away letting me know he could squeeze me in the next day to swap out the jewelry. I got my first tattoo here. I was nervous and I knew exactly what I wanted. I went in, didn't make an appointment, and was able to get it done that same day. I felt a little rushed while doing the paperwork, but overall experience was good. Shorty did my lotuss and she drew it at least 3 times before I was completely satisfied. She was thorough, took her time, and asked if I was okay every now and then. She started off slowly, since it was my first time. Touch ups are free! My friends got their piercings done here too. While i was waiting with them in the room, the guy doing the piercing took at LEAST 20 mins explaining to her all the details. Very professional. This is a review for the WONDERFUL Mario.This is the third tattoo I've gotten done by him and I don't think I could have anyone else do my tattoos in the future. In December I emailed him a sketch and other pictures for a tattoo, a Russian nesting doll (matryoshka), that I wanted done on my right upper arm. He responded in less than a few days and thought it was cool. I dropped by to discuss specifics and other options and then set a date. I came in for my appointment on the 23rd. He was still working on the stencil a bit when I got there and had to enlarge it a little in the end. It looked great and I couldn't believed that he turned my shitty sketch into something that good. I munched on a sandwich at milk + honey while he finished and got set up. We did the outline and it took an hour and forty five. It turned out to be fucking awesome! All of the minor, but fine details were perfect--especially the eyes, hair, and yarn ball that dominated the stomach area. It healed really well like my other tattoos. ~ I came in for my Feb. 4th appointment to get it colored. We figured out what colors would look best and got right to it. This time around took an hour and thirty... This is the first colored piece on my body and it went extremely well. Now it just needs to heal. Came in here late-afternoon on a Sunday to discuss getting my first tattoo. Russ gave me a quick rundown of what I could expect and looked over my artwork. Luckily he had some free time that evening so I set an appointment and returned about 2 hours later. Russ did an awesome job and was very smooth with the needle. I felt almost no pain, except for some thin skinned areas around the ankle. Afterwards, he gave me a list of things to do post-tattoo and how to care for it. He even gave me his e-mail address and told me to follow-up with him if I had any questions or needed a touch-up after the tattoo healed. Just got back from getting my navel pierced by Denna! When I first walked in, I saw that this place was a smaller cute little shop. They only accept walk ins for piercings, so I signed my name and waited for denna to finish up with one of her clients. Wait was about 30 minutes. Not bad at all. When denna was ready for me, she took me into the room and made sure that I felt comforted by letting my bf be in there with me, as well as making small talk and walking through the process with me to make me less nervous. Denna then marked the piercing and made sure it was okay with the placing which it was (: The piercing wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Just a "small pinch" as she said, and she was right. My entire life my mother never let me and my sister get our ears pierced in fear of acquiring AIDS. yes, my mom is a paranoid and crazy person, but I love her for loving me i guess? Well, my sister is getting married and I decided it was finally the time to become big girls and get our ears pierced at age 26 and 29 (sister). After researching safe and clean places to get our ears pierced, we dragged our mother with us to prove to her it was perfectly safe. We went in as walk ins and found out they were fairly busy for a saturday morning. We ended up having to wait about 30 minutes before someone was able to help us, although we warned about the wait, so it didn't bother us much. Finally, we were greeted with a friendly smile (I can't remember her name, but she has red hair and a split tongue). She answered all our questions and was very informative. She didn't judge us or belittle us for not having ANY piercings or tattoos whatsoever. We were newbs and she made us feel welcome. My sister went first, then me. She took her time explaining the process, how they clean their tools, how they measure and take their time planning exactly where the piercing should be. She checked with me several times to make sure the markings were where I liked them and then the piercing was quickly over. it was pretty easy, hardly any pain, and most importantly made my mom feel as though her daughters were safe in their hands. it was a bit pricey for the jewelery and piercing but i felt it was well worth the professionalism that they offer. read more

Came in to get my septum piercing done today with my friend. It was packed at The Camp so parking was scarce and Outer Limits was pretty crowded too. We signed in at 2:40 pm and finally got started on at 4 pm by Josh who is visiting for the weekend. As we wait, we were informed about the aftercare by Gregg who was amazing and super chill. He's also funny too so it kept a positive vibe in the store and lighten the mood as I anticipate for the piercing. They offer a wide range of jewelry to choose from, but I went with their silver classic barbell.Because I have to hide it during work, I got the smallest size they offer. The piercing room was very clean and sanitary. Josh was hilarious and kept the vibe as relaxed as he could for me since he knew I was lowkey freaking out. The piercing took a while because he had to repierce my septum twice because it didn't appear straight the first time. The piercing to me hurt like hell and it teared me up, but when Josh slid in the jewelry, it was a lot better. He demonstrated how to hide it and reviewed aftercare information and after that I was done! P.S. Regarding my repiercing, Josh did told me before the process that sometimes the piercing had to be pierced a second time due to angling so I wasn't super pissed or anything when I had to get it repierced. Overall, such great service. Gregg and Josh (if he is ever there again) are amazing people and I highly recommend coming here. I never seen such professional yet laid back employees. Just expect the wait on the weekends! I will most likely come back again! read more

I have 11 piercings in total and all of them have been done at Outer Limits. Every visit I make is a 20/10 experience and I highly recommend y'all to get pierced by LUC. 10/11 of my piercings are done by him and HE IS THE BEST. He truly has an eye for piercing placements and if you don't know what to get done, don't fret; HE'S GOT YOU. I'm definitely hyped to get my current piercings downsized just so I can see the Outer Limits team again. They are all incredibly knowledgeable in what they do so I have no doubts in placing my complete trust in them. Another great piercer to mention is Gregg! I decided to get my belly button pierced again on a whim and found this place while I was staying in Costa Mesa. I decided to come here after reading great reviews about their expertise, professionalism and cleanliness and I am so glad I did. I was concerned about the wait times I read from the reviews but when I called ahead to check I was told the wait was only about 20 minutes on the day I went. The staff was very friendly, my piercer that day was Gregg. He's very friendly, professional and he's an expert at what he does. He took a look at my belly button first to see if it would be able to handle a piercing before explaining the process and what type of metal they used (which was one of my main concerns because my skin is very sensitive when it comes to metal). What won me over was when I asked him if I could buy extra belly button rings in advance so I would have some to change to when the time comes that I'm able to swap rings. He didn't want to sell me any at that moment because he said I would either lose it or be tempted to change it too early. I appreciated that a lot because he was honest and I knew then that he really cares about his customers. He walked me through the entire process and talked to me about aftercare as well. He recommended that I stop by once a month to have them see how the healing process is going, I told him I wasn't from the area so he recommended one of his friends who owns a tattoo and piercing shop in Monterey where I'm from. I got my cartilage pierced by Gregg and he's awesome! He made me feel really comfortable and he's super friendly. He also sterilizes everything in front of you. He first marked my ear to see if the placement of the piercing was where I wanted it to be, and since my ears can get a lil transparent, he made sure to make markings between the veins in my ear so he wouldn't hit any blood vessels. The staff's great and they were really helpful in giving me information about cleaning, what earring I can get, when I can get it changed, etc. They encourage questions to make sure you take care of your new piercing/tattoo, in order to prevent infections and what not. My cartilage piercing was $15 for the piercing and $12 for the jewelry, so I think pricing is pretty good too. A few of my friends have come here with little complaints, and a couple of my friends who have never been there came with me and decided they wanted to get Gregg to do their piercings as well. Definitely going back if I decide to get more piercings in the future. read more

My friend and I got pierced by Gregg this past Friday. He is a complete joy. He's very professional and just downright cool. He really makes you feel comfortable and just makes the whole process much more enjoyable. I honestly don't care about how much I spent (to be honest, I don't even remember) because I know that I'll definitely be coming back to get pierced by Gregg. I obviously go and get pierced for the pretty jewel and whatnot... but I also go for the experience itself. It's very important for me to enjoy the entire process from start to end. Love this place to get pierced! Gregg has done most of my piercings and has always been so nice and professional. I came in last weekend to get my jewelry changed out, he had a cancellation and I was able to get a piercing! While he was switching out my jewelry I mentioned getting my helix. He then asked if I would be comfortable getting a surprise piecing. I said yes as I trust him and his expertise. He ended up piercing a flat and I love it! Still gave me an upper cartilage piercing but made it different than what I talked about. I haven't thought much about getting a flat and love that he gave something different!
