I had lunch here last week. I had the Smushburger with fries (apx $14) This could have been the burger of my dreams and I want to say that before cutting it down for all the ways it missed the mark. So here is the good first. The burger was so perfectly seared it had a crust. Oh god I love that. And the whole (one piece not chopped)Portobello mushroom on top of the burger was fantastic. So juicy and that texture was unique. Now the not so good. The fries would have been great if they weren't cold. My burger would have been great if it was medium rare like I asked for instead of well like I got. The service would have been great if it didn't take half an hour to get a burger. The place would have been awesome if it wasn't freezing inside I mean freezing! I will return and hopefully update this review by adding a few stars for reaching the potential I believe they have within...keep trying. read more

I searched for a Chicago-friendly bar because I was in NYC when the Hawks played the Lightning. I walked in and it was full of red and black jerseys, and a huge picture of Ditka on the mirror behind the bar. This is it! The crowd was very friendly, and enthusiastic - true Hawks fans. So it's a Monday night and my friend is a huge Chicago Bears fan. We head to the Overlook to watch the game. Cool rooftop if you want to smoke a cigar. Melissa was the first person to attend to us. Melissa was great! Pleasant, with a chill personality. We had a smoke and our first drink on the rooftop then went downstairs to the main bar where Kevin was bartending. Kevin came off a bit abrasive. Now, I lived in Brooklyn, NY half my life and I'm use to that behavior, but when I'm one of three people at the bar patiently waiting for a drink and you pass me 3 time's without asking if i care for anything, that can be a bit annoying. Kevin did give my friend a buyback, but that is common for most NYC bars. Needless to say, the bar has lots of flat screen TV's to watch the game and they have a free raffle if you wore anything Chicago Bears. read more

Walked in to this bar to finish the 9th inning of the ALCS with some friends, worst mistake of my life . As my friends are ordering beers I go to the bathroom (which was destroyed). I was feeling tired and we're not from the nyc area so we have a long commute, so when I walk out of the bathroom I ask my friends to leave with me. Then the owner of the place blockades us and Screams at me saying "Order a beer or else! This isn't a public restroom stop telling your friends to leave!" So I laugh it off because he was most likely intoxicated and finish the game. I came into this place after dinner with some friends, girls and guys alike and I have to say that we agreed to give it a chance, a one drink chance. Here are the results: Mediocre and nothing special to suggest ever coming here again. I am sure, although I am not a regular in MidE, that there are better drinking holes in the neighborhood. The place with its dive bar feel, brought the energy of our group down significantly that a few decided to call it a night after we left. Luckily we were able to get a pick me up at another bar around the corner (to be reviewed later). Some things: The Christmas balls hanging from the ceiling I liked. The wall art I didn't (I know its a dive bar). The restrooms were gross and in the men's room hot, yes hot, I think there was a heater going in there which is disgusting. - I decided to take a look upstairs, there is another bar which I assume is for private parties since no one was there. The upstairs had one nice thing: a terrace and everyone loves a terrace but it was closed on a Saturday night. The best feature of the bar was closed on one of the busiest nights of the week. Also, the atmosphere is drained by the fact that the window from the stairs looking out onto the terrace had large cracks. Back downstairs, they have a juke box and a dart board which I think due to its location is just for show. Overall, its a dive bar as you will see in other people's reviews. This bar is a great place. The owners are great, the bartenders are AWESOME!! It is a little place that reminds me of home. It is a major Oklahoma Sooner bar, so if you're a fan, go there & watch the game. While there, have the french fries (which are amazing) & if it is on special the Buffalo Chicken Dip! Bought the $1 dollar special off of living social. Its funny because the whole point of teaming up with living social is to promote the restaurant but this experience made me NEVER want to return. The service was extremely poor and slow, water was never refilled, every table was waiting for their food 45min to and hour or more, and worst of all NO ONE was apologetic at all. Its understood that they were busy but at least show some remorse for your hungry customers. I would NOT recommend coming back here. read more

I am only giving this place 5 stars because of Marc with a K. This guy is over the top. He amazed us all with his great attitude and quick service. One of my favorite bars in the city. Overlook is a fun bar, without the pretentiousness of overpriced lounges, and with much higher food and drink quality than a typical dive or sports bar. Overlook has a great crew of bartenders, and super friendly owners with one of the coolest and least pretentious roof decks in NYC. The food is outstanding for a sports bar, with fantastic french fries with assorts sauces. I actually will go for lunch when i am in the area. They have a real chef, not just someone frying up chicken wings. They also have one of the best happy hours in the area with 2 for 1 drinks. They have a pool table and darts, and a DJ on busier weekend nights. Huge projection screen on the roof deck for NFL and college football. Just a heads up, this is a huge Chicago Bears bar, so plan on it being packed whenever they are playing. It is a great venue for alumni groups to watch games as well, and they always look to cut groups a good deal. They have trivia and karaoke nights, and recently started doing comedy nights upstairs during the week that my friends have all said they liked (I have not been yet). You can call ahead and reserve one of their huge booths next to their famous Cartoon wall (drawings of some of the most iconic comic strips by their actual creators) even on busy nights. It is in a great location just a block from Grand Central, and a short cab or train ride to Port Authority. Can't recommend it enough for a fun night out. read more

This review is for the drinks and atmosphere only. I had dinner before arriving at Overlook. Overlook is positioning itself as the go-to Islanders bar in the city. My fiancé is a huge Isles fan so we went to Overlook to watch the playoff game last night. The "curb appeal" of Overlook wasn't too appealing due to construction in the area, but we all know it's what's on the inside that counts. Overlook is a quaint bar with maybe 15 barstools, standing room, and a back area with tables and booths. There is a 2/1 happy hour until 6 PM which is a nice deal & they were also offering drink specials after 6 PM too. Anyone in an Islanders jersey receives a free shot for every goal. The drinks were good! Strong but not overly so. Service was attentive. Once we saw and smelled all of the great bar food we regretted having dinner before we arrived. We will definitely be back, and I'll update the review once we try the food. read more

Stopped in here for our first meal in NYC after a long flight. Beer was exceptionally cold and wonderful. Stella on tap served in its proper chalice made me happy. Service was friendly, helpful and on point. Food was really good and served hot and fresh from the kitchen. I had chicken bites which was a grilled chicken slider with roasted red peppers. BBQ Pulled Pork, Ceasar Salad, and Fish and Chips were good too. A little disappointed by the fries that the menu depicted as Belgian style pommes frites. They were ok. Fries were the natural cut variety and fresh, and maybe just needed more salt. I order aioli and got some cold wierd red pepper sauce. But, all in all, I would go back for cold beer, and order my fries with more salt and a different sauce. read more

Cute bar and rooftop but came for "Taco" Tuesday and was super disappointed. They give you an option of either chicken or beef and either a corn hard or soft taco shell. First round, we had soft chicken tacos.... SUPER disappointing. It's cut up chicken breast mixed with onions and peppers in like this soupy sauce that tore right through the taco shells immediately. The tacos came out on one big tray so picking them up from the tray and onto our plates was a nightmare. Filling and torn tacos everywhere - just a soupy mess. Also, there were more onions and peppers in the filling than there was chicken - two of my tacos had no chicken just those peppers and onions and my other one just had 2 small chicken pieces. Second round, we got hard beef tacos. The beef was pretty much sloppy joes meat. Super disappointed again. The sangria was decent but nothing crazy. So it's $25 for unlimited tacos and sangria. The service was so slow so we were only able to have 2 rounds of tacos and they ran out of sangria cups at one point which also slowed down our sangria rounds. I really wanted to like this place...so much potential....$25 for unlimited tacos and sangria is an amazing deal.....but at this place...definitely not worth it :( Sucks...we wanted to make this the Tuesday spot. read more

Walked in on a whim because the happy hour special outside looked great. Two for the price of one beers. The bartended, a white bald man with half sleeves was very poor at communication. My wife and I ordered two beers, thinking we'd get them for the price of one. He poured four drinks, and briefly stated that, "That's how the happy hour special works. " An explanation of the special would have been appreciated. Also, there is a 20 dollar minimum on all card purchases, which seems unreasonably high, in my opinion. The special, outside of the poor communication, is great, and the beers offered are good. read more

We recently moved our offices over to East 45th Street a few months back. A couple of us went over to The Overlook and did not really know what to expect. We played darts and watched TV. Drinks are made very nicely and they have lots of beers on tap. They also have an awesome 2 for 1 deal til 6PM during the week. The food is really good too. A lot of us from work now go to the Overlook as our "go to" spot after work. Just the other night I was there and I had my bag and my pea coat there with me. I left in cab in a hurry to catch my ferry home and I completely forgot to grab my stuff. I called Mark, the manager, and he located my stuff and held it and locked my stuff in his office for me over the weekend til I was able to grab it on Monday. Try getting a bar owner ANYWHERE else in NYC to do that for you. Great place. Lots of fun. Karaoke Tuesdays too. Definitely give it a try. read more

So, it's not cheap by any means, but it is spacious and laid back, with an outdoor deck upstairs and lots of screens to watch games, so it's not a bad place to drink with your friends. When we got there, the upstairs was super hot and stuffy, but they immediately tried to rectify the situation by opening the windows, then the AC, then finally the ceiling fans, so they totally get points for that. THIS IS MY FAVORITE BAR. Why? Several reasons: - Everyone who works here is an angel sent from heaven. From heaven! The first time I came to Overlook, it was by accident (apparently there is more than one Sooners bar in the city; go figure), was left alone by my friends at around 5:30 while they went off to their romantic dinner, and found myself still at the bar telling ghost stories hours upon hours later and taking shots at 4 in the morning. This is the one place I know I can go and have a grand ol' time whether or not my friends show up on time (or at all) because to a man, everyone at Overlook is awesome. - Great prices on drinks! Happy hour is great. Any hour is great. I know I can roll over there with just a twenty in my pocket and a smile. - Plenty of tables, plenty of TVs to watch games on, upstairs bar and outdoor deck for warmer weather: excellent - The food is GREAT. I'd almost say surprisingly so, except that I am no longer surprised. The fries are great and the sliders are juicy and delicious. I've never eaten anything bad here. - They play all my favorite jams. If I can hear White Snake AND Prince in one evening, I'm a happy girl. I may dance. - Great place to throw a party (either planned or by just rolling up with a bunch of friends). - Did I mention that all of the Overlook staff is fantastic? Friend and I came to watch a Cubs game and wanted a table for three, and I was told they would hold a seat unless other people showed up first. But when the third person showed, they wouldn't seat him even though there was a seat, because someone else said they were also holding the same seat. My extremely suspicious coupon for $10 was honored after much research and permission by a satellite telephone link to another planet just so I can come out of there spending $30 after the coupon. This place is kind of a dump. I came here with friends for happy hour and we intended on sitting outside. Their 'outdoor area' is basically between buildings on the second floor and it was completely covered, it felt like we were sitting in an alleyway. From what I saw, the place was mostly dirty as was the bathroom that smelled like a urinal. Their happy hour special was 2 for 1 drinks, but they said you couldn't "stack" drinks as in, you can't order both at the same time. The bartender made a big deal of this when I tried to order both drinks at once as happy hour was ending soon, but the server actually brought me two so I can't complain! My biggest issue with the place was just the level of cleanliness and the overall ambiance, I wouldn't return again based solely on this aspect. read more

between current and ex coworkers, this is a standard dive for us. it is also right next to Ben and jacks, if you want to stroll in to fancy steak house under dressed and cause a scene. actually, it is the "rally dirty dive bar" mentioned in one of the Ben and jacks reviews. i like this place, but it can get super packed int he summer. it claims to have an outdoor deck, but it's really someones nasty patio. still, if you are looking for cheap, low key drinks after work - this is a great spot. read more

I didnt realize she was hired to give customers a hard time before giving a free raffle ticket. Last sunday 12/2/12, the guy giving them out was much friendlier and easy going. There's not many Bears bars but I can easily go somewhere else if they continue to have people like. The food is ok, nothing to write home about but not horrible either. The tables require a $25 minimum per person, but you can just watch the game while hanging out at the bar. The fries are pretty good. read more

You can trip and miss this place. Apparently its been there forever, who knew. We went here for HH after work nothing crazy. They have great drink specials 2 for 1 until 6 I believe. The waitresses were super nice and helpful. the reason I'm giving it 3.5 stars is because it was raining out the night we went and the roof was closed off (great) but leaked everywhere so essentially its almost like standing in the rain (hopefully they fix this). the other thing I didn't like at all was people were smoking on the roof YUCK and it was raining so a wet ashtray. The food was regular bar food we ordered for the table a sampler; of course after the drink special ran out it was time to go. Visited here with a friend while I was visiting from out of town on a Wednesday night. Overall, I'd give the food three stars, but the extra star comes from the great staff we met. Food: I had the fried ravioli, which was oversold to us, but still decent. Burger bites are just what you'd expect, but nothing terribly special. LOVED the fries with the buffalo mayo dipping sauce. Service: We were assisted by two waitresses throughout the meal on the top deck, which is lovely by the way. (Then again we virtually had it to ourselves.) Both were funny and friendly, and each one rocked in her own way. They had good suggestions for food and drink, and although I was with my buddy's wife, I'd swear one of them was working really hard to try to get me laid. When the upstairs part closed we went downstairs to the main bar. Although it was emptyish, the bartender was upbeat and friendly....even the security guard on the way out was funny, polite and friendly. Overall, I'd recommend this place, even when it's empty and quiet on a Wednesday night. read more
