I phoned Mr Owens for a few electrical problems at my home. I new door bell ringer reinstalled and work on outdoor low voltage lights. He responded and installed the doorbell ringer which I supplied. Then he went to the back yard where I showed him the problem with the lights that had been installed years earlier. Mr Owen told me the lights couldn't be fix and to go to San Carlos on Branston Ewing Irrigation. I bought eight low voltage lights fitting Mr. Owens requirements. The eight lights cost me 499.10 total. I brought them home and called Mr Owens told him I have the lights. He came by and told me the lights wouldn't work and return them. I went back to Ewings which told me they didn't do returns. All sales are final. I am now stuck with 8 lights that won't work in my outdoor light system. Mr. Owens told me he would look for replacements. Two weeks later Mr Owens told me he couldn't find lights that would work. Three weeks later I got a invoice for $350.00 owed to him. Mr. Owens connected a doorbell ring only. I bought the bell. Now he is charging me $350.00. Wow I thought that was totally outrageous. He cost me $499.10 of useless lights .Please let me know what you think Thank you read more

It's the customer service for us! Thursday night, a loud, schrilling alarm went off outside our home. This went on through Saturday! (Embarrassing to be "that house"). Upon investigation, we narrowed down the possible source: our solar panels. Naturally, we called our solar company so they could send someone out to assist us. We spent hours and hours waiting for them to assist -- TO NO AVAIL! They were no help at all. LT called around to different companies seeing if they would be willing to come out. After several companies declined, he called Owens Electric & Solar. Without hesitation, Jeff stayed on the phone with LT instructing him how to handle it. The alarm is now off and we are thankful! I was ripped off, by Owns Electric. He charged $1000 for a job that should have taken 1.5 hours tops and cost just a few hundred dollars. All I needed was to change 5 or 6 smoke detectors. He took advantage of me because he knew I needed help and did not understand the work that needed to be performed to fix the problem. When I called for a follow up months later it was because, I was unable to fix the fire alarms/detectors, he then told me to figure it out myself he is enjoying his Saturday and had plans already... he would then charge me double the cost of more to have him come fix it. Being a client of him I was very put off by his unprofessionalism, all I needed was some assistance and help but that was too much for him to pick up his phone and explain to me what to do Because he installed everything. I usually do not write reviews but I felt it was necessary. Do not hire him, he was take advantage of you and at the end of the day no one deserves that, especially as a paying customer. He will take advantage because he knows he can and will not even give you an estimate before the work begins. Don't waste your money on him, not worth it. read more

I called about an electrical issue at our residence, and after explaining the issue I kept being told "i cant just wave a magic wand and fix it" OKAY - as someone who works in the labor force and lives in the real world, i am more then aware there are not any magic wand to fix things. So after a few times of being told that magic wand noise i asked, is this something i should call another kind of company or trade/skill for? Almost immediately i get told "yes call someone else" and hangs up on me. So yea im sure u know where your wand should go. read more

I recently had solar installed by another company. However, when I looked at my meter box the other day, I saw a sticker from Owen's Electric & Solar. This is pretty low to put a sticker making it seem you did the work on a solar install without permission. I would not recommend using a company that engages in these types of practices. read more

The professionalism and willingness to help here is absolutely amazing. Generally I consider myself a pretty handy person, but a circuit failing for no apparent reason had me completely stumped. When he said it was probably something simple, my DIY stubbornness kicked in. What do you mean simple? I've been working on this since last night! But as soon as he said "did you check your GFI outlets?" I ate a big piece of humble pie. The garage circuit feeds one outlet in the living room that I hadn't checked. Problem solved over the phone, no charge. My only regret is that I didn't call Jeff before my girlfriend called my father-in-law to let him know I couldn't fix it. :) read more

We have an old house with an old fuse panel and sub-panel. When changing a fuse my husband broke one of the fuse sockets. He glued it back together (yes really) and all was well for a bit. Until probably the coldest night of the year when turning up the furnace and putting on some heat on a Friday night, everything blew, no lights, no heat, nothing! The next morning (Saturday..not the best day for contacting an electrician) I contacted a few electricians including Jeff Owens. He was fabulous. Not only did he come out straight away, in answer to my pathetic pleas of how awful it was to be without electricity, but he actually fixed the old box!!! How cool is that. We were figuring we would need a complete redo requiring us to be without electricity for several days. And his price was SO reasonable, under $200. We do intend now to have a new panel installed (Jeff didn't even suggest that we do it) and Jeff is the only guy we would trust to do it; he has our business from now on out. He is polite, personable, honest and immediately generates trust. My husband is a contractor and in the course of his business we have used the services of many contractors, Jeff is definitely one of the best! read more

The other day I turned on my new, fancy printer/scanner/copier and blew out the electricity in two rooms and two hallways in my house. The drama was exacerbated because we have this fancy solar photovoltaic energy generation system which provides backup power to the house. Because we get energy from two sources (PG&E and the sun) many electricians are reluctant to work on our house. I called the company who installed the solar, and they referred me to Jeff, the owner of Owens Electric & Solar. Not only is he an electrician, but he also sells and installs solar systems. He called me right back and came over to my house within 90 minutes - and I am a good 25 miles from his business! He very methodically ruled out potential sources of the problem, from less invasive to more invasive. Eventually he was able to find a burned out electric connector in one of the light fixtures in my bedroom. I was so relieved that he fixed the problem and I can imagine that other electricians would take much longer to isolate on burned out connector, located in a different room from where the problem began. The price that he charged was fair. Jeff was extremely professional, responsive, timely, intelligent and an all around nice guy to work with. read more

Jeff saved our life this week- maybe literally. After a light switch began shooting out sparks last weekend, he responded immediately on a Sunday evening to come check it out, when no one else was willing. He ended up needing to come back twice more to track down and fix the root of the problem, but was always on call and able to help. Filled out the Request form on their website, Got a response with in hours. I explained that I had a Lamp post in my parking lot that needs to be replaced after it was sheared off by a truck. The good: Owens was fast and effective. I called in the afternoon and the faulty circuit breaker was replaced before I was home. 5 stars. The bad: less than a week later, Owens angry-called me wanting to know why "I hadn't paid like I said I would." -4 stars. The angry follow-up based on the unrealistic expectation of speed of payment is a really sour point. I did happen to post the payment for their services the very next day after their work, and if the check didn't reach their PO box it would, in fact, be the first lost letter I've sent from my house. read more

Buyer Beware! I called up Jeff a few weeks ago to ask him about a solar installation job. Apparently some folks I know have used him in the past. I have called up a lot of companies with relation to a solar installation. Here was Jeff's take- 2 minute call. He didn't ask me about my needs, nor did he ask me about the nature of my project. It was very simple for him. He quoted a $/kw that was almost twice what the next "highest" bid that I received was. He didn't inquire as to how simple or complex the project was. His numbers are off the charts. Folks who don't do their homework will get ripped off. When I was trying to figure out what he total cost was (trying to calculate aloud), he cut me off and repeated his$/Kw price and said "you do the math" . I said your numbers seem high and he went "thank you for your time". Essentially this comes across to me as someone who really doesn't care about the customer experience, care about his customers needs, nor is interested in doing a job unless he can make boatloads of margin on it. In my opinion, you are just a cash flow to him. I wish you the best of luck if you chose Owen's electric for your solar needs! read more

The owner, Jeff was extremely high strung, blaming and angry. The quality of the work was acceptable, but we had a profoundly unprofessional interaction. That is not typical of the way I relate to others, as it's a point of pride to me to treat all others, especially working people with courtesy and respect for their hard work. I have used Owen's twice now. Once over the phone for help (they even texted me the answer to the problem with my sunny boy box) and the first time to fix a broken flange. It is very hard to find someone to look/fix my old solar system (2005). They are extremely pleasant and professional and I would highly recommend. read more

Jeff came out after we had another electrician totally misdiagnosed our problem. Of course the other electrician wanted to charge us $6,000 for a circuit box that did not need to be replaced. Because my time was very limited, I checked the listings again & called Owen's Electric. Scheduling was easy. I explained the project & made the appointment. Everything worked like clockwork. In the end, my experience with Owens Electric & Solar was rather disappointing. (My disclaimer: Having dealt with numerous contractors over the years, I have found only a few respect your time, are honest, are willing to go the extra mile to ensure you are happy and are willing to negotiate the costs). Jeff was initially responsive to a request to trouble shoot our solar system and helped deal with the tech support to figure out the problem. Since this ended up being a small job, I was basically told that these types of projects "aren't really worth my time". From there on out, our interactions we mainly by phone and I tried to negotiate for what seemed like a reasonable price to finish up the work. I may not appreciate what goes into running a small business but getting frustrated, hanging up on your customers and then refusing to take their calls just doesn't work. To top it all off, I found that he had ripped another company's stickers off the electrical box, threw that on the ground, put his sticker on the box and proceeded to throw the backing to his sticker on the ground as well. I called to ask for a breakdown of what this work actually involved for the price (since it was quite a substantial amount, and I don't think this is unreasonable - any professional company would provide this), he told me to go somewhere else and hung up. Beware toxic. We had Mr. Owens install four [4] solar systems over past ten years. We were good customers. Now Mr. Owens is attempting to gouge us for unauthorized service work at $175 per hour. He left work unfinished and he will not return to finish job until we pay him $900. We have offered to pay the normal non-union rate of $75 per hour but he refuses. He has threatened to lien our house. Do not let him blackmail you! read more

Fantastic response! Called Owens electric at 9 am on a Wednesday morning and spoke with owner, Jeff Owen. He listened my problem, he asked where I lived and then told me he was heading over to my house that instant. Arrived, crawled under my house and found the issue right away. Jeff was able to get power to my furnace and crawl space lighting. Then stayed to make sure my furnace would fire and when it didn't he called my furnace company and told them what was going on. I've had a couple of other questions about my electrical service while the furnace issues were investigated, emailed Jeff and he called right away to discuss the issue. Amazing. read more
