First off, let me say the restaurant is beautiful, and the staff are efficient and friendly. However, beware if you get any food here "to go." Not only will they not honor the posted, menu prices, they apparently have a secret menu for any food you take to your room. I ordered two children's breakfasts to go. The fruit cup was $11 on the menu I was hand given. Yet when I went to pay, it was magically $15. My other order also had an additional $5 added to the menu price. Additionally, a 20% automatic gratuity was included on the bill. I asked the server about the price difference and she said "oh, are computer is acting weird and putting the wrong prices, let me get my manager." The manager then comes over and explains that getting food "to go" is more, and that the kids menu I was given when placing a to-go order at the hostess table was "only" for dining in. Never once was I told this before placing my order, and the waitresses apparently didn't know about the price adjustment either. Lastly, for a $15+ fruit cup, the portion sizes are laughable (see photo), and the fruit was mostly cantaloupe. No strawberries at the "strawberry capital of the world" in sight. I realize this place is at a "resort", but we're in Oxnard, not Hawaii. They (Mandalay Bay) will nickel and dime you for everything here, so beware. Went there for brunch. We didn't realize it's inside a resort. It a beautiful spot. The service was amazing, prompt, polite and friendly. We enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and the Hamburger that we ordered. The jalapeño fitter had corn kernels in it; made for an interesting and creative base. SERVICE: First glance, I loved walking through the hall leading down to the restaurant. Great service. Not a lot of people. Valet parking is free for the first two hours, but please tip them. Clean, sleek, unique, and gorgeous! Love the optional seating of sofas and or chairs. There too is outdoor seating along the pool and a fire pit area. If concerned there are heating lamps all around the space. I also thought it was cool for the bar to have dual access to clients outside and the other side of the bar serves those inside, Our server was great. He offered food suggestions and took a few pics of myself and the family. FOOD: We ordered the steak that I too tried. I had the pork chop which was 4 out of 5 in terms of taste and my ma got the halibut, which she said was good. Everyone enjoyed their food for the most part. With laughter, we're not sure what we were eating that was slimy which Is served with the steak. Pay attention to other people mentioning the food also being a hair disappointing. The food was consistently excellent, everything we ordered was delicious, from the sunrise latte and lemon mascarpone pancakes to the curry clams and dessert. The service was also great each time. The only disappointment was the fish ceviche. While it was listed under the main course menu, the portion was extremely small. It served in the tiniest bowl in the restaurant. It felt more like a small appetizer than a main dish, which was surprising and a bit underwhelming. Overall, though, we enjoyed our meals and would definitely return! read more

Came here for lunch on a thursday. Restaurant is located in Zacari Dunes Hotel. Hotel has a nice lobby and ambiance and is on a beach. Walked from our neighboring resort. Looks like you can easily park for free at the public park next door and walk over. The Burger was good. $28 was a bit steep for burger and fries but it was tasty. The strawberry hamf pie was good. The kale salad was absolutely tasteless. Do not get it. It looked pretty. The steak was nothing special with a small portion. I ordered medium rare and it came out well done. Chimichurri sauce was meh. Fries were good. Lavender strawberry lemonade was meh. Save your $10. I also thought the outdoor seating would be beachfront. This is our fourth visit to the Hotel Zachari Dunes, and we keep returning because the location and hotel are truly lovely. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the service at Ox and Ocean. We've dined here each time we've stayed and have consistently found the service to be unbearably slow. On past visits, we assumed the delays were due to ongoing construction, but with renovations now complete, the issues persist. During our most breakfast and lunch it took 10-15 minutes just to be greeted after being seated, and nearly 45 minutes to receive our meals. We truly want to enjoy this restaurant as part of our stay, but the continued service delays make it very difficult. We hope to see improvements in the future. read more

This restaurant is in a cute hotel with super nice staff and decent food. The mussels could have used a bit more flavor 3.5/5. Maybe add chorizo? The pork chop was good 4/5. I was expecting it to be a thicker cut. However, the flavors were good....especially the bacon! Unfortunately, the restaurant does not have an ocean view. For some reason, I was expecting this and what I was mostly coming here for. Overall, it is a good experience. I don't think that I will drive out an hour for it in the future though. First time visiting Ox & Ocean and we had the best time! From the moment you walk in you feel like you're walking into a castle especially with valet service included. The entire atmosphere is so welcoming and enchanted. We had the short rib buns and the O&O burger. Each was spectacular and full of taste. As someone that doesn't generally enjoy sauces, the ones here were exquisite and perfectly calibrated for savory taste. Our waiter Aga was so welcoming and made our night very special. I have been going to the hotel over its many iterations and while it truly is a lovely location i have always found the food a bit boring. it's a tourist spot and that may simply explain it but now they claim an upscale food faire so i was eager to try the newest dining spot Ox & Ocean. there were three of us and though not overly difficult to please we do expect quite a lot based upon the price. My family and I are guests at the hotel and with 3 kids we figured it was easier for us to dine in their restaurant. I made a reservation through OpenTable and we were seated right away. 20 minutes pass and not one server checked in on us, acknowledged us, or took our drink order. The table next to us was being served and another server even bussed the table behind us, which I thought was weird that no one even bothered to ask if we'd been helped. Maybe it's because we have kids who happened to be on their iPads? Or maybe it's because we weren't dressed as nice as the other patrons? This place is an absolute stunner!!! Service was consistently great all the way through, and the food was awesome. This is the perfect place to enjoy a sunset on their gorgeous patio, and stroll on the beach. The valet was also awesome, nice touch to offer it free of charge for diners. We walked in on a Sat night and were able to get a seat in the bar area; the reservation section was very busy, and the patio was closed due to the weather being quite cold - so make a reservation if you have more than 2 on the weekends. After spending almost $500 for dinner, another $100 on drinks, and $300 for breakfast the next day you would think the service would be better. The food came out slow, the waitress was rude, and the management wasn't any better. They wanted to charge me for a cup of coffee because I took a sip of coffee from my husbands cup. This was our first time there, and it was a holiday, so I'm not sure if they usually sit additional guests separately, or did that yesterday to accommodate the high influx of guests. The main reason why I wanted to go to this restaurant was for the view and the ambiance, but we were in a room with no windows. Nonetheless, the service was attentive and our waiter was kind. Many guests and I waited a very long time for food. I scanned the room for everyone's body language, and they were feeling equally impatient. I was giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt because it was a holiday so there must be a lot of food orders. However, I did read previous yelp reviews about the wait time. As for the food, we ordered a crab cake (yes, singular) which we liked the most! It was genuinely delicious. Our second dish was the short rib bao buns. It lacked luster and was pretty bland. I was expecting to love this place but we came here for Sunday Brunch. The chilaquiles were surprisingly delicious and had a crunchiness to them. They already come with sunny side egg which is how I prefer them. They were full of flavor and had some spiciness to them. Tasty chilaquiles are hard to come by in restaurants but this place excelled. The mission burrito was just as delicious but you do need a spicier green salsa for it. The restaurant was busy so we did wait over 40 minutes for our food. The table next to us had been there before us and had also been waiting on their food. The live music did make up for some of the wait time because it was relaxing beautiful music that went with the scenery of the restaurant and hotel. I will say when we went up to the host, there was one woman there who did not have the best welcoming tone. Otherwise everyone else was super welcoming and paid attention to detail. read more
