I get it, a restaurant on location at a nice resort hotel (especially one as high rated as Zachari Dunes) is supposed to be high end. Six of us went for dinner at 7:30. Our server was a hot mess. It took 15 minutes before she took our drink order. The drinks took 20 minutes to get and she informed us that they were out of beet juice for the one signature cocktail that was ordered, so a draft beer was ordered instead. That took another 15 minutes to get. Mind you, the restaurant wasn't full, maybe half full at best. After the replacement beer was served, she disappeared for another 15-20 minutes before she finally took our order. The couple sitting at the next table over arrived after we did, ordered, ate, paid and left before we got our food. Their server was extremely attentive to them. About 5 minutes after taking our order, she came back and that they only had one serving of prime rib left (we ordered 2). Had she taken our order in a timely manner, that wouldn't have happened. I was furious. We were staying at the resort for our son's wedding at the resort the next day. The food was good but not the best we had in the area. Because we had 6 in our party, an automatic 20% gratuity was applied to the total. The service we received wasn't worth a 2% gratuity. One star was added back to the rating because the wait staff and food served from the same kitchen at the reception dinner the next evening was exceptional. Wanting our son's wedding to be perfect, we were concerned based on how unacceptable the previous dinner was, especially for the price per person. Kudos to the kitchen staff and servers for our event. Management needs to do a better job monitoring service! read more

I hate leaving negative reviews but people need to know. The restaurant is attractive and the location is right by the water. That's why Im giving the extra star. We were a party of 7. We ordered 1. Chlilaquiles - cold 2. Fish tacos - fish might have gone bad. Fish incredibly fishy tasting and later, members of the party were commenting they can smell the fishy odor from far away 3. Steak and eggs - steak was tough 4. Fritter Benedict - This was good. Could have used hot sauce but server never came back to check on us 5. Caesars Salad - fine, nothing to write home about 6. Pancake - probably the best of the 6 orders Service was poor. It took a while for someone to take our brunch order. Food took a while to arrive. We pointed out our food dissatisfaction to our server. We were later presented the bill for all 6 items plus they added a mandatory 20% gratuity. That is just so sad and unfair! We paid the check and left. We stopped at the restroom. Per one of our guests, the restroom was stinky. (Probabably someone ate the bad fish.) It's a shame. The restaurant is located in a beautiful hotel. Overpriced food and very slow service. Coffee machine wasn't working, so our server Selena had to get us coffee from another facility in the hotel. Coffee arrived after 15 minutes and it was cold. When our breakfasts arrived the toast wasn't brought out, we asked for our toast and waited another 15 minutes for it to arrive. One star given for the slow and forgetful service, not for the broken coffee equipment. read more

Great location! We had a cozy spot by the pool with a view of the ocean. Food was great! Service was so-so. The main server was good, but the other helpers were inattentive. No steak knives provided with steaks. When we asked for knives, the helper said, "ok" - non-committal. No surprise, she never came back with the knives. read more

The food here is absolutely stellar. I think the best way to eat here is to get a bunch of plates and share them with friends; if you're going to do that, I would highly recommend the pork chops, the mussels, and the berry pie for dessert. I've been so consistently impressed with the food that I've brought a number of friends to dine here, and everyone was constantly exclaiming how amazing the flavors were. If you're looking to dine solo, the NY steak is great! There's also the added pleasure of getting to choose your own steak knife from a set. In terms of drinks, the foggy old fashioned, which they smoke in front of you, is excellent. The atmosphere is also wonderful. The restaurant is right next to the beach, and there's often musicians playing outside. The restaurant isn't too crowded, and it feels classy without being pretentious. The servers are also incredible! My favorite server is Aga, who always makes you feel welcome and gives great advice on what to order; she's a gem. Definitely give this place a shot for a delicious, somewhat more upscale night out! The staff is very welcoming, and you can always hit the beach right afterward. Steak cooking medium rare perfection. All their cocktails are yummy too! They have this special huge steak platter that requires a 2-3 days in advance order. I recently had the privilege of trying a sampling of the Chef's delicious food at a Yelp event and I must say, he soon created a fan out of me. The restaurant is in the newly renovated hotel, at Mandalay Bay Beach. It was really nice to meet the staff and the management during this event and I have to say they were all super nice and seem genuinely happy to work there, that says a lot about a restaurant. A lot of the food and components were made from scratch which I appreciate very much and some of the dishes, which I tried for the very first time were simply delicious! I can't wait to come back and try the full menu to get the rest of the ingredients experience from this very talented chef! Definitely highly recommend this place, Oxnard need more places like this and I hope they stick around for a while! read more

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. First the food took a long time to come out, then everything came out raw. Burgers were raw and the chicken was pink! For the price, you expect good food and service. We had to send 5 of the 10 plates back and they came back raw! it was an absolute mess. Not to mention my sister-in-law is pregnant! Then we got to our rooms and our stomachs were hurting. The manager did apologize and gave us 50% off, but even with 50% off we were over $300! The more I think about us paying for that experience, the more it upsets me. We were celebrating a special occasion, and my son-in-law leaves for deployment soon. I was staying at this hotel and ordered the swordfish. It was extremely dry and bland. I understand it's Japanese inspired with the dashi, but the flavor was far too light. The swordfish definitely needed more seasoning on it's own in addition to the dashi. They also cooked the hell out of it - the texture was dryer than canned tuna. The lobster bisque I ordered had a nice noticeable lobster flavor to it. I like how it's much lighter than other lobster bisques I've had. It only had 5 small pieces of lobster meat inside though. I chopped up the swordfish and tossed it in towards the end to make the fish edible and it helped a lot. The service was top notch and very inviting. read more

I can't believe this place only has 3 reviews. It is because it's newly renovated? Most likely. What use to be called the Embassy Suites is now a Hilton Curio. This place went through a two year renovation. First and foremost, the service and staff is outstanding and very attentive . I really like that there is such a variety of seating areas. Table for two, different options for table of four from comfy couch to traditional table and chairs the bar is big and vibrant and outdoor seating from beach view to garden view with a nice fire pit. I ordered the ahi tuna crudo, brussels sprouts and the, both were delicious. OMG the cheesecake pudding!!!!! Definitely enough for two but I couldn't help myself and kept eating. Let's start with the Ahi Tuna Crudo: very nice presentation. The ahi was really fresh and had my tastebuds bouncing. The hint of citrus, slight crunch of the black sesame, and the heat /spiciness of the wasabi made the whole dish come together in harmony. The Brussels Sprouts was very tasty and perfectly cooked. The green onions, chili flakes and sour cream was a nice touch. However, the dish was a little too salty for me. I still ate all of it. SMH. The cheesecake pudding. Omg. It is so good. You have to try it. Filled with blueberries, lemon curd, and not your typical graham crackers. I felt like I was eating a bowl of cereal. Sadly, I ate most of it myself. As local foodies, we were excited to try Ox & Ocean for the first time, especially after a successful day at an event, which we wanted to celebrate over dinner. When we arrived, the ambiance immediately caught our attention--the atmosphere was beautifully curated, setting high expectations for the evening. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the aesthetic. The greeting at the host stand felt cold and unwelcoming, which clashed with both the atmosphere and the celebratory mood we had brought with us. A senior staff member--possibly a manager--ignored us entirely, leaving it to a junior team member to acknowledge us. We inquired about availability and were told it would be an hour wait. However, the tone used felt more like an attempt to discourage us rather than welcome us. When we asked about the possibility of bar seating, the response was curt and dismissive, making us feel as though our question was unwelcome. We took a quick look around the bar area but ultimately decided to leave, as neither of us felt comfortable with how we'd been treated. It's unfortunate, as we were genuinely excited to experience what Ox & Ocean has to offer. Unfortunately, the service left a sour first impression. Missed opportunity. Later that Evening... When we left, we decided to head up Harbor Boulevard to Brophy Brothers in the Ventura Harbor, and what a phenomenal experience it was. The service here is consistently excellent, and the ambiance is great. While the dinner menu is a bit limited, I tried the pork chops, mussels, and sea bass. The sea bass was a small portion, leaving me still hungry afterward, and the pork chop was a bit dry. Finally got to take Michael for his belated birthday dinner to the Ox and Ocean at the beach in Oxnard. The beautiful restaurant, grounds, pool and beach are somewhat isolated so the manager and server were very friendly as most guests were staying at the adjoining hotel. Another uninvited guest greeted us as we came into the lobby, Santa Claus. We started with cocktails, Michael the Harry's Berries smashed and I had the Blueberry basil margarita then lobster bisque and roasted delicate squash with kale pesto, turmeric yoghurt, dukkah and Vella dry jack cheese. My son went all in on this restaurant's theme and had the Oxtail Bao Buns with hoisin, cilantro and kimchi and I had the grilled pork chop with honey glazed acorn squash purée, apple bacon chutney, chive and crushed pistachios. For dessert we shared the cheesecake pudding with lemon curd and blueberries. The joke of the night was everything I ordered the server said was the best on the menu. I told him he probably says that for every dish but the manager of the restaurant came over and confirmed my choices. The squash was good but an extremely large portion and a bit heavy, but the pork chop and apple bacon chutney was superb. We could not order the "best on menu" dessert as it wasn't GF for me but the cheesecake pudding was excellent. The chef uses locally grown products in all the dishes. read more
