I ate there with my family and we were pleasantly surprised by the waitress. I noticed she and her friend had amazing chemistry in the workplace...although it seems that the upper management is a toxic environment who does not treat their staff fairly. This goes all the way back to the kitchen as the food was bland and overpriced. We were seated promptly as our friends were waiting for us. The cocktails were very good but the service was very slow. I ordered the rib-eye steak - it was supposed to be medium but the steak came out almost well done and cold. My wife ordered clam chowder. It came out luke warm and the clams were "clamy". Went to Oxbow with my girlfriend for my birthday. We like the wine list and the ambiance so we've been there half a dozen times since they opened. I got the Steak Tips special because their steaks are usually pretty good. Not this time. I'm pretty sure I was served trimmings from other steaks. My meal arrived on a bed of mashed potatoes with what tasted like chicken gravy. The waitress didn't mention the $58 price when she sold it to us over drinks. Yes, not asking is definitely my mistake, but only three other menu items--all steaks--were more expensive, so she should have brought it up. There's also a 4% service fee that escapes mention until you see it on the check. With wine, service charge, and tip, dinner for two cost $228.00. For that kind of money we could have gone to the Cliff House, Katie Downs (twice), Crockett's (also probably twice), or a number of other places. Next time we probably will. read more

went here this afternoon because our friends were out on the patio and we just wanted to pop in to say hi, the man at the front counter immediately asked if we had a reservation and i said no we didn't, we just wanted to say hi to a couple of friends. he rudely then said well do your friends have a reservation? to which i said they are already here so I'm not sure but they have ate already? he heavily sighed and rolled his eyes and told me i do not have room for you here but we can look for them. first time being here and after all of that i did not even want to dine at this place. your host is supposed to be the first person guests see and get their whole outlook on the place. i've been in the industry for 12 years and that was just poor. read more

I love the location of Oxbow, and the building is nice and new. My husband and I came here for dinner, and the service was good; it was clean, and the ambiance was great. The letdown was the food could have been better. I tried the watermelon salad, which was mushy and seemed bad (this was in the summer, by the way). So, I ordered the chowder, which was good but runny. Since I did not eat the salad, I ordered their version of a BLT, which would have been okay if the meat had been cooked. I threw it away because the pork belly seemed semi-raw, as if it spoke to me. My husband ordered the steak and said it was good, but he was disappointed there were no gluten-free options. The prices are high, but I am okay paying for the experience. I hope they add some gluten-friendly things to their menu, especially as an appetizer. The drinks are probably the best thing I had here; hat off to the bartender. read more

Our server, Charity, was great! Friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Other than that, I would say that this place is overpriced for the quality. We ordered a filet mignon, Cesar salad and ribeye which equaled out to be $201. The char on the steak was the best part of the meat otherwise, there are plenty other places that can serve up a similar meal for that price with better quality. Tried this place for the first time yesterday. The cocktails were amazing, the apps we ordered (Brussels/oysters) also great, we also enjoyed the dessert (a strawberry rhubarb crumble) The knock here was around the entrees my fiancé and I ordered. She ordered Tagliatelle and it lacked a ton of flavor, also it was odd that they didn't offer to add any Parmesan or even have salt/pepper readily available. I ordered the chefs special (steak tips, mashed potatoes, and asparagus). I also asked for a side of mushrooms and truffle crème (big mistakes on ordering the truffle crème) because the way they served the food it was on top of each other meaning the asparagus and mashed potatoes were underneath the steak, because of this once I added the truffle Crème my entire meal turned into this soupy mixture. The flavor was good so I ate it, but I don't understand why they're serving all the food on top of each other, it takes away from the individual flavors. This appears to be something they do as I saw a guy next to me who ordered a steak and had it serviced on top of a bad of fries (don't they realize the juices from the steak will turn the fries to mush?) Overall I would certainly come back for the drinks and apps. But I was not impressed with the main dishes. read more

I do not often post Yelps but the service was exceptional at Oxbow. We arrived for our 6:15 reservation to be greeted by name. We asked to sit outside and the hostess thought it was full but would check. We said we did not mind waiting but instead of waiting for a table to open up she grabbed her manager and they set up a whole new table outside for us. Who does that these days? They do! The drinks were great, the fish was light and flaky, the wagyu fajitas were tender and flavorful, and the dessert was delicious. Sitting outside you have a view of the river and Mount Rainier. Is it cheap? No. It is overpriced? No. I felt it was very price competitive for the service and everything exceeded our expectations. 4 of us in our party and we all had GREAT food. We all had completely different dishes. We only had one dessert by recommendation and it was not very good presentation but tasted good. The service was outstanding. As a matter of fact she insisted that the dessert was comped. I would highly recommend you try this restaurant. Even if you just have a drink and watch the River go by you table. I can't wait to try the event room upstairs. The ambiance is very unique between the River and the bridge. I have been to this restaurant four times now. First time, when they opened, sat in the bar and the service, drinks and food were excellent. So, we went back. It was very noisy and hard to have a conversation, but after a few drinks that doesn't seem to matter. Second time I ordered the fish....it was fishy. The next time we went it was nice outside, and we were looking for a patio to have dinner. I ordered the pasta, it was good, but the server was super rude and pretentious, probably because I looked like I came from the gym, but come on we are in Sumner (Go Spartans!). Last night I met my girl friends for dinner, again for the patio. Made the mistake to order a fish dish, thought shrimp and grits would be safe, and I grits are always good . . . super fishy, rubbery and no flavor. Now let's talk about the grits . . . rice/quinoa/oat sort of thing are not grits. Drinks were fantastic and it might be the best patio in town. Service was good. I did notice the rude server from the time before, thank goodness we did not have her, I was dressed for the gym again. A smile might go a long way. I'll probably go back for the over priced food and great drinks, just because of the patio. I have tried all the salads and they nailed those. read more

I have eaten here 3 times now. The first time was really great. I think it was the first week it opened. The second time was also great! The 3rd time was just this past Saturday. Our service was ok. Our order was mixed up and not done correctly but we let that go. The food was below average this time as well. I really want to see this place succeed. What i observed was inconsistency in both service and food. If they want to bring an elevated dining experience for the patrons they absolutely need to be consistent. For a Saturday night it should have been packed and it dropped off quickly by 8:30-not good. My hope is that this gets addressed quickly otherwise I don't see a future for this establishment. 1st-My $20 drink came out with 2 hitchhikers.... my wife spotted them swimming around in my drink after smelling my drink, two fruit flies. Not the end of the word. I have had these buggers harass my bar as well. 2nd-My prime rib eye steak was ordered medium rare with a char. It came out well done with no char. My wife ordered the Chilean Sea bass....it was amazing. She was finished with her meal by the time my correctly cooked steak arrived. The steak was chewy and had some gristle. Not impressed. Was a bit over salted as well. 3rd-My steak was served in a bowl???? on a bed of crispy noodle French fries. It was like trying to cut an ice cube! All it did was slide around on the bed of fries! A very annoying presentation for sure. 4th- Super loud! My wife and I are not old! lol! But the noise alone will keep us from coming back. We wanted a nice meal not a dance club! We were joking that perhaps of all our friends and family we may have been the first ones to visit the Urban Kitchen, we could tell everyone about it and bring some of them back.....sadly we will not be recommending it to anyone. We had our 1 meal at the new oxbow restaurant in Sumner and it did not disappoint, oysters were fresh and tasty, not wedge salad was delicious, my Wife had porcini ravioli was also delicious, I am a meat eater so had the 16 oz rib eye it was cooked to perfection (med rare) seasoned perfectly. The restaurant is very bright and clean with the modern decor, bar was spacious and comfortable, bartender Travis was on point with wine and cocktails. The place is new and beautiful, staff are super friendly, and the food is delicious. We had the Pear Salad which was very good, fish and chips which were not greasy at all and very tasty and I had the Chilean Seabass which was very moist, one of the best prepared Seabass entrees that I have eaten! My wife and I came to Oxbow for dinner to celebrate our anniversary recently. From the beginning we were impressed with the service, our waitress was attentive, drinks were fast once ordered and the atmosphere was upscale and inviting. They even brought us glasses of complimentary sparkling wine since we had noted it was our anniversary when making the reservation. We ordered a filet and ribeye, one with root vegetables and another with the other option which was beef tallow French fries. Both were great however I would have preferred more traditional potato options in place of fries. Overall, we were very happy with our choice in restaurants and will be back to try brunch soon. read more
