Great new restaurant in Sumner. Excellent food and service in a nice environment. Highly recommended!

Meh. The food, service, atmosphere, and drinks do not warrant the higher price per plate. The interior design feels sparse and cold. Acoustics could be better. Drink was very sweet/syrupy. It stayed untouched after my first couple sips and unacknowledged by the server on the table for our 2 hours there. Server was otherwise very attentive and friendly. Shrimp and grits had a lot of shrimp but lacked depth of flavor. BLT buns were good. I'll give this place another try but first impression was disappointing. read more

My review of this restaurant could be nicer considering the view of Mt Rainier I had made a dinners reservation right when they opened today and was assured a table for two at 7pm! We arrived on time and lovely Chris who is the General Manager said the table was not available, then I asked where do we sit as he could not even come up with a solution other than sitting us in the bar - how understanding! Our first visit to Oxbow last night was a huge success. The place was packed so a reservation is a must. My husband and I each ordered the venison and our daughter had the porcini ravioli. She also ordered a 'not' wedge salad. The salad came first and was a nice slice of iceberg lettuce with rogue creamery smoky blue cheese, fennel, herbed yogurt dressing, smoked almonds and pepper. It was quite a large portion and would be good to split. Our entrees came next and the presentation was beautiful. The venison was cooked a perfect medium rare and sat atop pureed potatoes, roasted winter squash and carrots. There was a pinot noir demi glace drizzled over the top. Another great addition to the plate was a bunch of fire roasted grapes. They were sweet, juicy and great with the meat. The ravioli was a very large portion and absolutely delicious. Big pillows of mushroom ravioli with charred winter squash, roasted fennel, kale, pecorino, truffle creme and shaved winter truffle. We decided to split a dessert and ordered the lemon goat cheese cheesecake. It was a perfect ending to the dinner. The cheesecake was made in a cupcake size cup and sat on a delightfully light sauce with cookie crumbles. There was a fruit topping on top of the cheesecake. It was perfect to have a few bites of something sweet after such a satisfying meal. The wine list is pricey but has some good selections. We will definitely go back as the fine dining choices are few and far between in this area. read more

The Thanksgiving Feast lunch/dinner had all the Thanksgiving trimmings you would expect with exceptional portions, flavors, and cooked to perfection. Atmosphere a little loud for my family as I think the acoustics travel easily in a smaller environment which has an open kitchen and staff working stations which we were seated near. If you have someone who is sensitive to noise be sure to be seated on the far side from the kitchen. But, I could see they have very large doors which open in the summer to a large patio with ample seating I presume for open air afternoons and evenings. We look forward to coming back to enjoy. Brussel sprouts on point and many other good things to talk about for our meals. Excellent 5 star service, Ample help and people helping each other. We were so excited to try this new restaurant in our neighborhood because the reviews looked great and my husband loves a good steak. We had an early reservation. There are a dozen inside tables and only two other couples there yet they seated us a table where my husband's chair was in the walking pathway to the doors going outside. Our server had tables inside and outside. So our placement may have convenient for her but it was like we were in a traffic lane while eating our dinner. Plus, we always had to find another server when we needed something. Our salads were good. Our steaks were WAY UNDERCOOKED. When my husband asked the server to send it back for additional cooking (after he showed her the totally raw meat), she asked him to cut it half and show her the inside. He did - but it seemed like she was defensive. Not nearly as defensive, though, as the chef who got our honest feedback as he walked around checking on guests. We put the meat in a to go box - steak (cooked properly) and eggs for breakfast tomorrow. For a dinner bill of $250, we will: a) go to our favorite Argentine steakhouse in Tacoma, and b) not be back or recommend to friends. Very disappointing. read more

I will not return to this restaurant. They add a 3% service charge to pay for medical insurance for hourly employees. It is stated right on your bill. Also, they adjusted the tip upward on their own another $2. Very illegal and inappropriate practices. The restaurant is very loud inside and we could barely talk to each other without yelling. read more

Traveling, took a chance with yelp to find a decent steak. WINNER! Sat at the bar. Natalie gave excellent service. Wagu New York tips, melt in your mouth. The restaurant was clean, staff friendly, and the food was amazing. I had the wagu steak tip special served on mash potatoes and asparagus. The mushroom glaze was delicious. My son in law and daughter took my wife and I to dinner last night to the Oxbow. They live in Sumner but had never been. We were very impressed with the setting and the restaurant overall. We were seated on the patio and the ambiance was great. The sounds of the trains were cool also. Our waitress Julie was excellent. Our family loved the food overall. I had halibut fish and chips which were very good. Julie asked me if I wanted the 2 piece or 3 pieces, I chose the 3 and was full at 2. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner. Food is great and service is amazing! Over the top on costumer service. I got a small stain on my shirt (like normal). Without me asking both the manager and the bartender separately noticed and both brought me soda water and a fresh napkin to try to remove the stain... come on! That's service! read more

The food was great and the cocktails were outstanding. Service was good, but a bit slow (due to it being very busy). This would be a 4.5 rating but the noise was crazy loud. They desperately need to place some fabric sound panels throughout the restaurant to dampen sound. I was with four other people and we literally had to yell to each other to be heard. Fix that and they will have a top spot in the Sumner/Bonney Lake area to visit. read more

To the hostess that sat my husband and I under the stairs and balked when asked if we could sit outside instead since we had made reservations for our anniversary, then said "understand if you sit outside, you can't come back in", but did not tell us the outdoor heaters were not usable, the poor waitress that had to tell my husband for the THIRD time they were out of a beer he wanted, the bartender that must have been out of vodka and mixer for a $15 cosmo that tasted like pink water, sadly, nothing was able to erase the snarky hostess remark, not even the delicious Brussels sprout appetizer. What was anticipated to be a romantic celebration turned into a ridiculous evening that cost way to much for amazing Brussel sprouts, just ok halibut and steak and a complimentary scoop of ice cream with whip cream. My wife and I went to have a good time and we love to support small business locally own, but you need to put attention to the people running your business like your host and waitresses that is your first impression team if they don't do a good job they can ruin you in a second, we wait for 20 min for some attention until my wife went to talk to the host and told her we were waiting for so long and while we were waiting I put a bad review the suddenly a executive chef show up that he was doing everything to correct the mistake and to give the a good review but my review stand until my next visit to see if the change happened and food need a little more seasoning too. We don't mind the price if the food and service is acceptable. Ambience is good the spot where they are is excellent to run a business so they don't have an excuse to don't make it. Fix your issues fast and you going to be a great restaurant, good luck. read more

Menu too ambitious for kitchen to deliver appropriately, even though it wasn't extensive. We had a filet mignonette that was overcooked and venison that was waaaaayyyyy overcooked. Those 2 items should have been pretty basic to cook. All the waitress would say was "I'm sorry". Drinks were fine. Cesar salad was fine, but nothing outstanding. Dessert offerings were rather mediocre. One was ice cream with a very light drizzle of pomegranate syrup over it. Actually such a light drizzle that we could barely see it, along with 3 to 5 pomegranate seeds on top. Totally overpriced for what amounted to just a minimal ice cream sundae. Would never go back, and have told our friends of our experience there. Too bad because we were so hopeful for a good restaurant in sumner that wasn't a pizza place or fast food. Pricing was high, but we don't mind paying premium prices for a great restaurant. However, I'm not happy to pay premium prices for mediocre food. read more

Let me just say that Oxbow is a new restaurant in Sumner and just want to give them an amazing review! From the moment we arrived, through our dinner and departure? The staff was amazing. Our waitress was on point (I wish I knew her name but when we arrived? The restaurant was full and busy and voices were loud! ) Still? Our server was kind and considerate and intentional to our needs. We received our food and had someone from the kitchen (head chef?) visit us personally to see if we were happy with our food. Which we were! I had their Fajita meal which was so amazing. Ed Crosbie loved his fish and chips. Jeanette Pauline had the brick chicken and Tim Aldrich had a rib eye steak. Tim commented that this was the first steak he has had for a long time that he never felt the need to "add to". It was perfect - the degree of cook and the seasonings on the steak. Unlike other places he went to where with one? When it involved a very expensive bill for his steak? And would normally not complain. He complained. Not so at Oxbow. His steak arrived perfectly cooked and seasoned. We will be back! read more
