Been to more than my share of fusion restaurants. Around the world. This one stands out as being the best outside of Boston for Sushi and their main menu. They have a great bar. Bartenders get to know your name. Owners Kevin and Karen are always here greeting patrons. Food is fab and fresh. Sushi is awesome. Fresh. Delivered daily. Need reservations for Thursday- Saturday. You know what they say, you get what you pay for. At Oye's you are definitely paying of the atmosphere and English speaking staff. The food is average and fairly pricey. We went to Oye's for Mother's day because my Mother in-law likes it. I had not been in years because the last time I went I thought it was lousy but figured maybe it had gotten better. I read the reviews before we went and I saw the comments on the flavorless food and those reviews were 100% correct. The sushi was good but all the other food was horrible, It had NO flavor and the portions are tiny. The drinks were as strong as gasoline which can be a good thing but they were actually too strong. Came here for my husbands work Christmas party. They had set up two large tables in the back for our large group, it was cozy & intimate. We didn't order anything off the menu, they had a set list of appetizers they brought out and every one of them was yummy! Especially the sushi, OMG. It was fresh, colorful, exquisitely presented, visually pleasing. They really went all out for us. The noodles were some of the best I've ever had. They even cater to individuals who have gluten allergies. I had a scorpion bowl that was deeeeelicious. I'd go back again for a nice romantic dinner. read more

We want so badly to give our local restaurant business and we keep trying. But no matter the night, the delivery is over an hour. Tonight was over 1.5 hours between order and delivery. One hour in, I called and we were told it was out for delivery. A half hour later it arrived, cold. And while some of it was fine reheated, it was not our hope for our dinner and some was not as good reheated. I wish the business was able to acknowledge when delivery expectations can't be met or gives money back or credit to future purchases so as not to lose customers. We want to remain customers but after so many disappointments, we will likely go elsewhere next time. read more

Oyes of Reading has gone down hill. It used to be one of my favorites and it has gotten a little too big for it's britches. The food was cold and the customer service; especially the woman manager/owner is very rude. She YELLS at her staff AND customers which makes it unbearable! So no thanks. Been here a number of times and each time it is a little worse. Kept thinking we went on a bad day, but will not go back. Live in town so it was easy to go to with family. Today, my husband and I ordered 3 luncheon meals with a maki sushi roll. The sushi was tasteless and we love sushi. Very disappointed. The different luncheon entrees were very, very salty. The fried rice was spoiled. I took the rice off our plates and requested white rice which they brought. Not worth a $50 lunch. Dear owner, I saw your responses. Please do not invite me back. Although what I received was delicious food - after waiting for 11/2 hrs for my delivery, I did not get all my items and some of the items I got were cold and had to be put in the oven to warm back up. The driver was too busy rushing when delivered as well. I called, they said they would get it to my right away and the driver probably forgot to grab them, after waiting 45 minutes and completing what was delivered, I had to call to get a refund, which I still haven't seen. On a busy night like a Friday, I'm thinking that a better system of quality control for deliveries needs to be done and drivers educated on complete orders. read more

Yikes. After seeing this place a million times, we decided to try Oye's to satisfy a sushi craving. I'll start by shouting out the positives: The location is great, the atmosphere is clean and contemporary, and the General Gau's Chicken was fantastic. We got it as an appetizer and we're not disappointed. The negatives: The sushi sucked. Sorry to be so blunt, but it was just not good. It did not taste fresh, and the texture was so chewy that it took almost a minute to chew and swallow each bite. I will be honest and say that supermarket sushi is better. If you plan on going here for sushi, I'd rethink it. If you wanted to go for a cocktail and some Chinese food, I'm guessing that you're good. I won't be going back. read more

I only wish that I could give them a zero rating. Last night, (New Year's Eve) was dangerous at this restaurant. Although I expected a long wait, what I encountered was a "super spreader" event that was caused by a complete lack of any organization and a complete disregard of the COVID protocols. It was so bad, that the police arrived to try to break up the crowd. I called a day in advance to set up curbside pick-up. I was told I should come to the restaurant, park, and then I would get a call from them when my order was ready. 16 hours after my order was due, I still haven't gotten a call. Although the food is OK here (it used to be very good years ago), I will never spend another cent here. It is the principle that I most object to. They completely disregarded the health and safety of their customers by not doing anything to promote our safety. read more

Against my better judgement I went to a sushi restaurant in suburbia. I had no idea it was in a strip mall, otherwise I may have had stronger feelings about this place before even jumping in the car. Parking on a Thursday night around 8:30 was not as plentiful as you might have thought. Apparently Staples is still bumpin around that time. Go figure... The restaurant was pretty full, which gave me hope. We seated ourselves with the rest of the party we were meeting, and picked up menus. I couldn't help but notice a plethora of spelling and grammatical errors on the webpage for Oye's before going. The menu is person, did not have that many errors, which was nice. The waiter seemed nice, but not all that aware of what was going on, and not all that interested in getting us our drinks or anything else in a a prompt or organized manner. Almost all of us were ordering sushi, and while it's somewhat annoying to split up a bill, we fired he could handle it, cause almost ,all of us haf shared a bit of time and money by carpooling. I ordered the Lemon Grass Martini, cause I wasn't driving - woohoo! My martini, tasted pretty bad. It was a mix between watery and rubbing alcohol. Not good. I tried my friend's "cucumber cooler" martini which tasted better. They both had strange shaped green pieces floating around in them. Eeek. The next thing that happened? All the sushi that the TEN OF US had ordered, came out on the same boat. Had there not been TEN of us, or had the different kinds been described a little bit better to us by the waiter, we could've done well. What did he tell us "I don't really know, this is one of them..." Pissah. I could've waited tables here just as well as he did. We asked again for clarification, but got NONE. My friend and I shared a plate of pad thai, which was not very warm when it came out, and very wet/slimy, and not very flavorful. I decided to try to forget how bad the service was and get one of the cucumber marinis that my friend had, and she wanted a second one. When they arrived? They tasted like LICKING A CUTTING BOARD. So effing gross. I asked for them to bring some more of the melon liquore, but, even when we tracked down the waiter, and asked for it - it didn't taste any better. When we tried to split the bill? That got even messier than the rest of our dining experience. The waiter didn't print out any new bills when people paid for their own food - once you deduct SIXTY dollars off a bill, why ON EARTH would you put the original bill BACK ON THE TABLE?! Ridiculous. My friend went to go sort out the bill situation - she was given a calculator so that we weren't "overcharged" really? Do your own math? Hell no. Not again. The upside: Oonce you swim through all the bullshit with the horrible service, the sushi wasn't that bad. I've had better LOTS of places, with MUCH BETTER SERVICE. read more

A sushi snob and a lover of Americanized "Chinese" food walk into Oye's; who gets what they want? The town of Reading. The new restaurant opened a couple weeks ago in the town at a time when the area is seeing quite a few promising dining spots emerge; to date, Oye is the best of the lot. What's more, they are a stand-out when compared to most mixed-Asian restaurants north of Boston. I'm not typically one to comment on decor and atmosphere, but it was both comfortable and refined. They had a nice lively bar area which, while open to the rest of the restaurant for the most part, did not intrude on the more reserved dining area. There was a sushi bar integrated at the far end as well. As a starter I enjoyed three pieces of Maguro. I had ordered my standard Toro, but sadly was told they had run out that evening. Regardless, I was satisfied. The quality was better than most sushi places I have gone to in the area. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the ginger was fresh-- not the standard bright pink pickled variety. I typically would have created my entire meal from the sushi ala-carte menu but there were several intriguing dishes on the menu that made me stray from the ordinary. I eventually opted for the "shrimp and avocado in plum wine sauce." It was served with green vegetable noodles, pea pods, red bell peppers, and no shortage of shrimp and avocado slices. The sauce was light and offered a hint of flavor that didn't overpower the freshness of the other ingredients. My fork did stray occasionally to my wife's sesame chicken dish, which she commented was not the typical overly syruped sweet-and-sour dish she was used to. As she said, it was only a slight step to the side of the variety of dish, but the chicken was crispy with more flavor beyond sweet and sour. Still Americanized, but much better quality than you'd typically find with that style. Service was attentive, friendly, and unobtrusive. Appetizers and main courses were timed and spaced well. All around, a wonderful dining experience. Oye will be part of our dinner plans on may more occasions in the future, and we hope they enjoy prosperity here in Reading, a town that has been starved for a new and exciting dining experience. read more

Due to your happening scene, the sensible thing to do is to call up and make a reservation, right? Wrong. No need to because you will lose it. Get there the first of two-- what happens? They can't find my name on their list. It's okay, last time I checked my name isn't very common, so whatever...it happens right? I mean, am I complaining for something that's really not a big deal? Yeah, but only because this happened AGAIN. So maybe I'm being bratty--these things happen all the time. Do you think I'm done, though? No, bro, I'm a woman; we're never done when it comes to complaining. This is a common occurrence apparently, because the SAME thing has happened to a friend of mine, completely unrelated. Oye, I'm not going to lie, your food and drinks are pretty good, (especially that sushi smorgasbord pizza explosion) but there's a PLETHORA of great options for Asian deliciousness that have a fun trendy atmosphere within a 15 minute drive, or less. And I hate to mention this because your dishes truly are delish, but after my last visit, I was downing Pepto for the whole night because your food got me sick. Tried the veggie chow foon, veggie fried rice and some broccoli dish. The food was very bland. The server was friendly. The restaurant itself is quite spacious. The food in general was meh. For appetizer, we got: Uni sushi: It was OK. I've had fresher uni at Ma Soba. Oysters: $2 each. However, I'd rather spend $0.25 more on each oyster for better quality at Island Creek Oyster Bar. We ordered from the Chinese menu for our entree-very Americanized menu. If you are looking for something real Chinese, this place is not for you. The waiter recommended Mogolian beef. I guess the beef quality was decent, but the flavor was worse than Panda Express. Ordered the pad Thai for take out. Got home opened up the box. All the ground peanuts were placed in one corner of the container. The ground peanuts are supposed to be scattered all over the top of the noodles, not shoved in the far corner. Also there was NO sauce on the noodles it's as if they forgot to put the damn sauce on it. All I had was the ground peanuts and the white plain noodles. I came with a friend that was allergic to seafood and she walked out unharmed. That is a plus! We may or may not have had issues in the past with this at these types of places but this worked out well. I've been wanting to go here for a while but what got me in the door was an Eversave I had purchased. I tried a few things off the sushi menu, they were so-so, nothing spectacular. The fried rice was wicked good. I want to go back again because I'd like to try a few more types of sushi rolls but it was expensive so I'll go when the time is right. Parking is fine, huge lot over where it is located. We went on a Wednesday night I believe it was around 6:30ish and there were empty tables, to be expected on a week day night. I see plenty of people on my Facebook newsfeed though who say they're at Oyes, so I can imagine on the weekends it gets pretty busy. I'll be back again, with money to spend. read more

I usually love this place but today I was at the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes before being acknowledged and seated. I had the Pad Thai for the first time ever here and will not do it again. It was bland and boring. Now they do give you soup with every lunch and good Matcha Green teas if you ask but just stay away from the Pad Thai. The prices are also good. read more

Awful! I'm actually leaving angry... And I'm never angry after eating! No one greeted us or asked if we'd like a table, so we settled for a bar seat ourselves... Eventually had the menu shown to us, with a blunt pencil for our sushi menu, which wasn't great for writing. But that's not the point. (Get it...) Ordered some edamame to start, and a couple speciality rolls - and 2 normal maki rolls. We ordered a bottled beer which came with a smashed glass rim. It was all very average.. The rolls were, fine, and fresh enough... But so's sushi from Market Basket. The speciality rolls kinda warm. (It was a spicy tuna and salmon thing... So not really as it should be..) I don't remember the names... There's no point when you're not going back. The atmosphere has that of a bad sports bar, with a bad atmosphere.. And average sushi menu. On the wait out, the same amount of acknowledgment of our presence was given... Nothing, not even a look up from awful-service-and-restaurants.com or whatever website the manager seemed stuck into. May as well never bother with this place... It's just not good, for anything. Oh - how was the edamame you ask? It never arrived... 2 stars.. Because at least the sushi turned up. read more

More like 3.5 to be fair. First time trying. I'm a vegetarian and ordered the garlic broccoli (spicy, with LOTS of sauce), fried rice with vegetables (very good, I recommend) and the fresh summer rolls (of which I was disappointed in). The summer rolls were basically lettuce wrapped in rice paper, no other vegetables. Kind of sad. Also, it comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce instead of a peanut dipping sauce. This was a take out order and on a Sunday night, it was quite quick to pick up. I would go back to try the fried rice again and maybe one of their other vegetarian friendly options. Oy(e) Vey!!!! We called ahead for a reservation, they said they didn't take reservations... We arrived with a party of 6 and waited for 50 minutes for a table. People came in after us and were seated before us. When we asked why, they said "they had reservations." Save your time and go somewhere else! There was a graduation party (of 16) that had rented a room at 8:30... They were still waiting for their room when we left.
