Been here a few times even after terrible experiences based off yelp reviews thinking we just went on a bad day but nope, they are consistently terrible. I really don't understand where these positive reviews are coming from. Food is good but nothing outstanding. The prices are a little high for what you get and the service is absolutely terrible. They mess up your order and then give you a hard time when you ask them to fix it. Beyond that the service is rude and generally unpleasant every time we've been there. I don't know guys! I think I'm not drinking the same Kool-Aid as you guys (or sweet tea to be regionally specific, lol!) because I am really not seeing it. I tried, and it's not...great! At very most decent and cheap, but nothing to write home to my mom to and definitely not something I would try unless I was staving. The food is eh to okay, and made my stomach hurt for hours. My fiance didn't even eat half of his burger, and my Carolina dogs were greasy and COLD!! I live two blocks away from this place, and it was cold! That could be in part because they forgot my fries and I actually had to drive back! (Although it wasn't because I took three bites of my dog before realizing they had forgotten my fries and said to my fiance, "hm, this is kind of cold?!) I went back to PB's to politely let them know that they had forgotten my fries, and instead of even a half hearted "sorry" I got a little attitude back. No one apologized for me having to drive back. No one said anything about them FORGETTING anything. Huh?! A little service please?! Look, if you have been reading my reviews at all, you know that I'm all about service and since there wasn't any really. Why would I eat here? You go to mom and pops to support them and in return you get service and a level of food that is beyond something corporate. At this rate, I would rather eat at the McDonald's that gets my order wrong, because at least they are apologetic! If you are going to this place the hours of operation are from Monday thru Friday 11-8 & Saturday 11-5 and closed on Sunday. And as Jon T said, bring cash! read more

PB's was recently rated #2 for hotdogs by the Winston-Salem Journal. This rating was not very fair, considering that the #1 rated hotdog joint was Skippy's - not a *real* hotdog joint. While Skippy's does indeed have some amazing hotdogs, they serve their dogs on a pretzel bun, thus making them not "real" hotdogs. PBs serves perfectly delicious "real" American hot dogs. All of the other reviewers have said all there really is to say. I'm here to reaffirm all that has been stated. PB's is a great place to have a good, quick, well priced meal. The hot dogs are truly wonderful and the fixins were perfect. The one thing I would note as a possible improvement are the fries (served without any toppings) being offered with some seasoning to add a bit more flavor or zing. P.B's has the best hot dogs here in Winston. The other two hot dog places are decent but these are the best. The best thing about these dogs is that they put the bun on the grill which makes it so buttery and toasty! The fries, burgers and chicken wings are also sooo good. Toasted hot dog bun!!! This little place is on Hawthrone across the street from Food Lion. They only accept cash so be sure to have some before you go in. The inside is tiny and only has a few seats around the counter. They have three benches outside to sit and eat on. We got 4 hot dogs all the way with an order of chili cheese fries. The hot dog came with mustard, chili and coleslaw. And of course a toasted bun. Soooo good! People really underestimate a toasted bun. The chili cheese fries were on point! Piping hot and crispy so they didn't get soggy under all the chili and cheese. Decent prices for great food. Was packed on Saturday. read more

Best fries in the triad! It's a small place and feels old fashioned - no fancy upgrades and they only take cash but the hot dogs are delicious and the fries are amazingly good. My oh my! Now this is the place to come to if you want a real, old school, southern hot dog! I have had my shares of hot dogs in the area, but this one exceeds them all by far! PB's is an old school hot dog joint and is located right across from Food Lion on Hawthorne Road. The place is very small, and seating is limited, but they also have seating outside which is nice and convenient, especially on a sunny day! Then menu is pretty basic as they have hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, and wings just to name stuff off the top of my head. I got four hot dogs (yeah I was hungry lol) and a side of fries with some lemonade and it was delicious. The fries weren't anything special, and I probably could have gone with them, but the hot dogs were amazing! The buns were toasted and buttered on top, and the chili was really hearty and flavorful. The slaw was thick, and the onions were fresh. The cheese was melted perfectly and brought the entire hot dog together. I will definitely be back here as I have found a new favorite hot dog joint! read more

Man! What good hot dogs!!!! I will probably never ever ever buy another from CookOut or Dario's. These hot dogs are serious. The only time I get excited about hot dogs aka wieners in RI is at NY System. Now I have a place to get excited about in Winston. 2 all the way! The hot dog buns were perfect, they had the perfect blend of spices in the chili & the slaw was great too. I had 2, but I really would have loved 3. Only down side is that the soda machine wasn't working & the soda I got was flat, but the hot dogs compensated for it. This will be my new place to go to when craving hot dogs, which is quite often. I love this place. I first came here in 1997 or 1998 as a kid with my mom and I've been a fan since. The building, the menu, and the food are straight to the point. It's as if simplicity is its mantra. The dining/waiting area is worn and unchanged, but clean and comfortable with nice large windows and a small outside area with some patio tables. The kitchen is small and I applaud the staff for being able to work that close to each other. You can watch the entire cooking process of your meal which only adds to the ambiance of the building. The menu is small, but that's most of its glory. Burgers, dogs fries, wings, and not much else. Why make a huge menu that's only mediocre when you can keep it simple and really excel at a handful of things? The chili cheese dog is by far the gold standard of chili cheese dogs, and all others should just give up, because it's not going to happen. You will never find a more glorious hot dog than the ones served here. I think the buns are the best part. Or maybe it's the fact that it tastes just as incredible as it did the first time time I ate here as a 10 year old kid. I currently live in TX, but I make it a priority to visit this place when I come home to WS to visit. I hope it never goes away, because I've eaten hot dogs from all over the US and nothin comes close. I've never been disappointed, and the fact that this place is still kickin shoukd tell you something. Because it is takeout, the building is small. There are a few stools and a counter that make it comfortable while waiting on your order. We were at a tennis tournament and happened upon PB's. We had tea, hot dogs, hamburger, and fries. Everything was really good. We chose to eat there as it was raining and we weren't ready to return to the courts. Prices were reasonable. Hot dog all the way (chili, slaw, mustard, onion) and fries. Good stuff. Chili is very mild, onions also. Good slaw. Toasted bun is the secret. Very little seating - some stools around the perimeter inside (walk-up and order window) - CASH ONLY - and three wooden picnic tables outside in the parking lot. Great, simple place to eat. I love their cheeseburgers ($3.40) and hotdogs ($2.40). There's a few seats inside on stools that turn around, or you can sit at a picnic table outside. I drink iced tea ($1.55). It's very good. They sell packaged pies, apple and pineapple. They also have BBQ sandwiches, chicken filet, hot wings, French fries and chili cheese fries.
