P.J. Pappas company is a top notch customer service company. We've been with this company for over 8 years and the previous owners spoke highly of them. They are prompt, professional, and experts in outside lighting and irrigation. We had new lighting installed a couple of years ago at our home in Wellesley and loved it so much we recently installed more out back and it looks amazing! We hired P.J. PAPPAS to install a new sprinkler system for our home after our landscaper suggested using them. They were very difficult to deal with, and did a sloppy job. I don't recommend using them. After I posted the review above, I received a private message from PETER PAPPAS using a bogus profile, in which he questions the timing of the installation which was actually done a few years ago. He actually went to the trouble of creating a fake profile to send a message since direct messages from owners are turned off on my profile. Anything he wants to say he can say publicly instead of hiding behind a fake profile. His slippery actions further demonstrate his lack of integrity and arrogance. It serves as a perfect example of why buyers should BEWARE of doing business with this company. I'm certain he will make and use other fake profiles to give himself four and five star reviews to bring up his ratings but the proof is right here. read more

If I could give Zero stars I would! This past summer I got a call from the owner Peter telling me my system is old and needs replacing. Granted it was installed by him 19 years ago but other than a couple of heads sticking which he replaced and I paid for there has been no issue. I always used Pappas Irrigation for opening and winterization of my lawn. Twice a year for 19 years. I have a great lawn and my "old" system works fine. So I told Peter, after thinking about if I really needed or could afford it that I was going to pass on the new upgrade. Fast forward to today 3/9/19 less than a month from opening up my system for the spring I get a 1 sentence letter stating effective immediately they will no longer service my system. I called Peter he called back and said I offered you a great deal and you said no. So to sum it up, I didn't need or could afford a new system and then I get a letter, and if I bought the system he would be happy to open and close my system for the $110 per visit like normal but because I said no he dropped a 19 year customer that always paid for the openings and closings and any other service related need I called for. I would suggest that people not use a company with such low moral and ethical practices! Truly unprofessional Peter, there is no more to the story of my review. You told me it was about the deal you gave me to replace my system and as it stands right now on 6/24/19 my system you installed many years ago is still doing well and we I found another company to open and close it he also said there is nothing wrong. You abruptly sent me a one sentence notification with verily little time for me to find someone. But I did and he is not forcing me to buy something I don't need and when I do I will happily buy it from someone that respects a loyal customer. This company is useless. I bought a house that had a sprinkler system and landscape lights installed by them. I called them 2-3 weeks ago to find out when they would be coming to turn on my system for the spring and they said it would be before the end of the month. Well, today is May 1st and my sprinklers are still off. I called them: 1. Monday and left a voicemail 2. Yesterday and talked to an answering service who said someone would call me back. 3. Today and left another voicemail. What do I need to do to get an answer out of these people? I told them if I don't get a response by tomorrow I'll find someone else to do it. Oh and the landscape lights they installed are pathetic - the wiring is loose so in order to keep any of the lights on, I need to remove the top and move the bulb around to make the connection about once every 2 days. I wouldn't recommend this company to an enemy, let alone a friend. EDIT: Today I received a letter in the mail from them stating that they will no longer be servicing my sprinkler system. Didn't even bother to return my calls or recommend someone else. Talk about terrible customer service. STAY AWAY. I see the owner responded that they "tried to contact me by phone" yet I have no voicemail or missed calls from them. How exactly did they try contacting me Peter? You are a liar and all the other horrible reviews here will back that up. read more

The customer is always wrong. We inherited a relationship with PJ Pappas when we bought our house, years ago. For routine maintenance, over the years, they were ok. This year, we encountered problems with our sprinklers. They were not only unresponsive but quite rude. In spring, they were much too busy to help. In fall, when many of our plantings had died, they announced that they were only doing winterizing right now, and why had we not contacted them earlier? (We had!) There are many irrigation companies with much better reviews on Yelp. I intend to change our contract to one of them. Looking at other reviews, I see they do a good job on installation, but get irritable and rude if the sprinklers they installed or maintained caused a problem. Use your own judgment. read more

The only positive thing I can say about this business is that they set me up with an extraordinary landscaper (Sunrise Landscaping). At first I was impressed with the time Peter Pappas spent with us and his knowledge. Then the hard sell began. I wanted lighting and he was charging over 300 a light (same lights -Kichler- found on line for a third of the price). BUT, he pressed, installation was FREE! He pushed too hard and totally turned us off- and he wouldn't stop. Then, he kept throwing the landscaper he initially recommended, under the bus. The sprinkler system appears to work well (although some heads are watering pavement - but that is adjustable). The final straw came when he turned off the sprinkler system 1 week after the sod was installed and REFUSED to turn it on again. He has a valve that he designed to use exclusively for this purpose. Hubby bypassed it and now we do it ourselves. (ended up doing my own lighting and am quite happy. His plan would have made my house look like Christmas in July with all the lights he wanted to use) read more

This company was winterizing a sprinkler system for a neighbor so I asked if they could do mine while they were across the street. I was asked to call the office and give my details and they would do it. I paid the bill the day I received it. Roll forward to this spring the technician apparently didn't eliminate the water from the outside line and the water pipe froze and split making the system inoperable. After 3 calls to the company, I finally got a call back from a woman in the office that informed me I would need to get a plumber because they didn't install the system and therefore don't guarantee their work. She said "it could have been anything that caused the problem." Really? The fact that they didn't drain the water was the reason. She said she refused to discuss it any longer and hung up on me. Do business with these people at your peril. Never have I done business with a company that had such little regard or pride in their work. read more

We used PJ Pappas to winterize our sprinkler system after we purchased a new house that already had a system. Roll forward a year and I call today to see if they will come repair a pipe that is broken, and I'm informed that a) we're not in their records and b) they obviously didn't install our system since we're not in their records, so they won't do any work on it. After I insisted that they had come to our home before and worked on it so why wouldn't they now, and why wasn't I in their system, they "found" us in their records but still said "no" to even hearing about the repair job. Bottom line, I'm told they don't want my business - sorry they won't be called when we're looking to upgrade or have other jobs! They could have simply told me that they are too busy and unable to schedule us in right now - that would have been much nicer customer service. read more

I am extremely pleased with the work done by PJ Pappas. They installed a low voltage LED system to highlight my house and it looks BEAUTIFUL!! It's also great for security reasons as my house is set way back and the street lights do not provide enough light to see my driveway. My entire house was done fast and efficient, and when my dog dug up one of the wires on the LED light, they came right back out to salvage what they could and reconnect the light for me! We bought low energy light fixtures which are bulb free so we don't have to worry about replacing anything which is a huge plus! I really can't say enough about my experience! I hired them to do my sprinkler system and had such a great experience that I used them for my lights too! Thanks again guys!! read more

I first contracted Peter 2 years ago to revamp my irrigation system (builder's special) and add landscape lighting. I had concerns with the installation that Peter got wind of through another contractor that I used. Peter exhibited fantastic business acumen and called me immediately to hear my concerns. He educated me about the system and his installation but as importantly, he listened. This can be a rare trait. 2 years later, my lawn is phenomenally green (the irrigation was clearly done right) and I hired Peter again to install additionally landscape lighting in the backyard. My home now looks like a resort. More important that the initial work done right, Peter is incredibly responsive. I have called several times for items that have need adjustment or service and he arrives either the same day or the next. Any warranty items are covered without discussion - both time and materials. While Peter is not the cheapest, I firmly believe that in this case, you get EXACTLY what you pay for. I would recommend PJ Pappas for irrigation or landscape lighting without hesitation. read more

Like a previous review sadly I had the exact same experience. They installed our system and serviced it for several years after the installation. No worries until there was a problem! The winterizing was done poorly one fall which we discovered in the spring as we attempted to open the system. Some of the main valves underground cracked because they were full of water during wintertime and rendered the system inoperable. After calling the office and being abruptly told by the women that it was "impossible" since they "winterized" the system, Mr Pappas came out personally to see the problem. He was confrontational, rude and took no responsibility for the cracked valves. He said it could have been anything! I had never experienced this type of behavior from a professional company before, so it would be an understatement to say I was taken by surprise. I didnt think there would be any question of responsibility, especially since he had been closing my system for several years up to this event, and the damages were pretty obvious. In retrospect he did me a favor, I had another company come out to access the damage and give me a quote for repairs. They diagnosed the damages were unequivocally caused from poor winterizing of the system. I authorized this new company to do the repairs to the valves for a very reasonable cost. The service was excellent, and I have been using them to service my system since. Workers are very pleasant and office is very accommodating and responsive. Something I was not familiar with the Pappas company. The business ethics employed by Pappas is astounding. Confrontational, deny, blame are all I can remember from the awful experience. read more

Pete designed the system and it seem to cover the areas that need water very well. The crew worked quickly with minimal damage to my yard. Jim installed the technical equipment. The was very knowledgeable in how the components work. It is more complex than I imagined. All of the equipment seems too end. He explained to me how everything works. They put in an irrigation system for me in June 2017. They sent me information on the brand and products they used, in advance of meeting. They were quick to come out to look at my yard to give me an estimate. Once I gave the green light to move forward, they came out soon after our initial contact to install the hardware needed in the basement. Then within a month came back to install the sprinkler system. Peter showed up for all of the visits even though he had an employee install it. Peter answered all of my questions and told me of their fall/spring program they offer. They were helpful in offering instructions on how to use it, directed me in on-line videos as well and gave some solicited advice on my lawn care in the future. The system works beautifully! I was in the search for up lighting and a sprinkler system, there are so many companies out there I wasn't sure who to turn to. I asked a friend for a referral and they gave me PJ Pappa's information. James ended up coming out within 24 hours to review my house and give me my options for both uplighting and my sprinkler system. He left me convinced on what to do, and reassured me they would do everything possible to make sure when they were done I was happy with their service. After our first install, which they got done in one single day James and Peter (the owner I believe) came by to see my house with the new lighting during the night. After their review, they came back the next day to install three more lights and it made all of the difference. When it came to the sprinkler system, after re-opening it this year James let me know there was an issue with our wifi connection and he would like to stop by and fix it. He did just that, and now it's working perfectly. I will be looking to us PJ Pappas for more lighting for my patio. if only there were more family businesses run this way! read more

Horrendous, unprofessional customer service! I ditto everything Joe K says in his review below. I have been a customer of PJ Pappas for the last 16 years. After a nice call from Peter, the owner, three days ago to remind me to turn off my inside water for winterizing, I received a rude letter from him saying that, effective immediately, they will no longer be servicing our sprinkler system. I had been on a business trip and had no time to respond to his call. I called him upon my return and Peter was rude, confrontational and unprofessional during the call. I told him that I, too, am in a service business and that the customer is always right. He told me that that wasn't true! Again, after 16 years, there was no sense of him trying to solve the issue or treating me like a great customer I had been over the years. I have never experienced such rude service with anyone! read more

No joke one of the worst customer services experiences I have ever encountered. And it has gone on for years. It is a complete head scratcher how they remain in business or retain any customers. I reluctantly do sprinkler business with them because their man on the ground is good. But the rest of the company i.e. owners are shockingly unprofessional, rude, inept and lack the basic toddler communication skills. First of all THEY DO NOT WORK. I think they just sleep in and play golf all day because I have never spoken to an individual there. They have an outsourced answering service that is cumbersome. So there is actually no one ever there working, like as in never. Nor does any one contact you after contacting them with a question or even request to put in more sprinklers/coverage as in my case. They show up announced twice a yr and get worked up if everything is not perfectly set up or if you have question. The owner of the company who has never contacted me nor any of his employees wrote us a rude, curt letter telling us to pound sand and take out business elsewhere after apparently our water was turned off. Again no communication prior. We are 5+yr paying customers having purchased the system thru these spastics. Mind you I also prepaid. The owner didn't have the stones to call me either, rather had an employee reach out when I requested so. I clearly missed my calling if you can be such complete lazy, unhelpful dbags to existing, customers. Negative unfinity stars. Never do business with the company unless you are a complete sadist or writing a book on the worst Masshole businesses of all time. read more
