This is our second time here but I couldn't remember what I had the first time - until I ordered the same thing again and realized why I had forgotten. The food here, to be blunt, is not good. I think if you're going to eat here to watch a game just stick with a burger. The cheese steak was terrible - tiny amount of meat so you're just eating mostly a chewy bun. There's no onions peppers, nothing. I also had ordered the onion soup because I was so chilled from being outside and it was so unbelievably salty I couldn't finish it, and I was thirsty all night from it. My daughter seemed to like her burger well enough, as did my husband. No comments were made saying wow this burger is amazing. The PJ's fries were crab fries knockoffs and were good. Do NOT order the crispy chicken sandwich! It is straight from the freezer. It is very thin & obviously mass produced. Likely the worst chicken sandwich I've ever had. We stopped by PJ Whelihan's while in Lancaster for a college soccer showcase. The atmosphere is great with flat screens everywhere you look. It has a really open feel and concept. The menu offered a variety of items from which to choose, as well as signature cocktails and other alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, sangria, etc.). Our waitress (Cody) was wonderful. She was so easy to interact with. She was knowledgeable about food items and beverages, and also pleasantly conversational. The food was available quickly and was prepared exactly as requested. There were many TV's broadcasting sports, if that is important to you (though some side-by-side were showing duplicate programming). Rest rooms were clean (not a given these days). This was one of the worst (food wise) restaurants I have been to, in Lancaster. The wait for food was near to 45 minutes and barely anyone was in the restaurant. Fish & chips, $17.49 - two, smaller than Mrs. Smiths and McDonald's fish filet (now, how sad is that?), tasting like nothing that should be priced at $17 and definitely, not served to patrons. Hubby was like, no it's fine and I was like, no; it's not. Take it back and in comes, 5 boneless chicken wings, asked for sauce on the side. Sauce was not on the side. The smash dog was gross. I asked for the aioli sauce on the side; it was not. All condiments were smooshed into the bun, making it very unappealing. Stopped in for dinner Sunday evening after taking care of some quick things for work. Hubby graciously chauffeured me about...anyway he's not too familiar with the area so I suggested we stop in Belmont as there are many different options. We came in PJ Whelihans and seated ourselves. There are plenty of screens all around with a great variety of sports. We were in a far corner booth - we each could see all the events telecast from differing areas in the restaurant which was nice. Music wasn't too loud to have a conversation. I have been here when the restaurant is packed and it is overall very loud - tonight only the outside booths were full so rather quiet. Large variety of beer choices. Hubs went with Peroni. Fried pickle spears were good. Not too salty, pickle and batter were both crunchy - paired well with the ranch. I had the JP bacon burger, hubs went with fish and chips. My burger was cooked perfectly to order the maple ketchup was a bit too sweet for my liking but they didn't drown the burger in it. The burger was freshly made - not frozen it was really good. French fries were ok. The meal would have been so much better had they been fresh cut fries instead of standard frozen. But still ok crisp and hot. The fish and chips.....well in all honesty the fish was reminiscent of something out of the frozen Gorton's box - four pieces about 5 - 6 inches long deep fried. They were ok but slightly disappointing given my burger was really good and freshly made. His fries were the same as mine. We shared the peanut butter pie for dessert. I was meeting an old friend (well, we're not old - we've just known each other forever) and Fruitville Pike is halfway for each of us. The restaurant where we usually meet had a half hour wait. We wanted somewhere where we could talk - since PJ Whelihan's is a sports bar, we were hesitant but we thought we'd try it. It was a good decision. We were seated immediately in the bar - the only table was a high top for 6 but that worked. Although we were in a bar, and even though we used to drink copious amounts of beer together, we both opted for water - the beer list was enticing though. While the menu was on the heavy, bar food side, we both chose the shrimp tacos. We didn't wait too long for our food. We were each served three street size tacos containing a decent amount of smallish shrimp, slaw and a green salsa. They were very good though the meal wasn't very substantial, especially for the price. Maybe a side of fresh chips and salsa could have been included to beef up the meal a bit. If you are looking for a place to cheer on the Steelers, (had to say that for the Eagles fans!) this is (probably) the place. The entire restaurant surrounded by big screen TV's. The sound was off - it would have been mayhem if they were all on. We had a nice visit. Next time I'm in town, I have little doubt we will try P. J. Whelihan's again. I was excited to see another sports bar option open in the area, but I haven't been impressed with the food, and for the wait on football Sunday, it's just not worth it. Service was good - our waitress was prompt and attentive. Our first visit was a random Tuesday, so there weren't many others in the restaurant. I ordered the chili and tots - I liked the tots, but the chili was pretty bland. My husband had the shrimp tacos, but the shrimp were super watery, which made for a soggy taco. He also was disappointed by the chili (he'd gotten a cup of his own). Honestly, I'd put this on par with Arooga's, another sports bar chain in the area. If you're looking for something better, I'd recommend Fat Pigs downtown - no reservations or call ahead on Sunday, but the food is at least waiting for. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a disappointing time due to the lack of attentiveness from the bartender, Millie. Me and my group sat at available spaces at the bar and throughout my visit, Millie seemed more focused on chatting with a couple at the bar rather than taking care of the other guests. It was frustrating because we had to flag down a waitress that was clearing tables just to get her attention for refills. To be clear,we waited about 5-10 minutes patiently before we shifted to getting the waitress attention. When she was address by her colleague, she appeared frustrated but came over to ask us what we needed. It was a few times we had to go above and beyond to get her attention. It got to the point where we decided to leave instead of staying. Overall, it was a letdown and I hope they can improve their service in the future. read more

Food: the appetizers are really good with my favorites being the fried pickles and the pretzel bites. OMG, what a great Salad. I stumbled upon P.J. Whelihan's Pub & Restaurant while visiting Lancaster for a Basketball Tournament. The Salad was delicious and extremely filling; what I enjoyed most were the chipotle shrimp that were in the salad, they were very well seasoned, a nice size and quality of shrimp and tasted as if they had been marinated. I can honestly say that this is one of the best salads I have ever had; in addition, the service was great, the portions size were plentiful and the price point was appropriate. I'll have to keep Whelihan's Pub & Restaurant on my list in the event I'm ever in the area again. My cousin enjoyed her salad & wings as well. My second time dining at PJ's was not quite as pleasant as before. Maybe the sports bar scene is too loud and uninviting at my age. The first time I went however, it was early lunch and I was one of about 8 customers in the whole joint and I really enjoyed it. As usual, the food scores for me, along with my company, about a 3.5-4.5 depending on who you ask. The onion rings were terrible as there was no seasoning, they just tasted like what they were cooked in. Maybe the fryer needs cleaning, I don't know. The entrees were all very good as before. Some wanted dessert and the choice was the seasonal option. I did not care for it but others seemed to. The service scores a 5 and the ambiance a 4 (only because of the first trip). read more

Overall I was disappointed by this place. The positives: the beer was cold, they have a decent draft selection, and the TV setup for sports is great. The con: the food! We ordered 5 naked wings (traditional, bone in wings with no breading) in their sauce of the month as an appetizer. The sauce of the month was marketed as a cherry bourbon bbq sauce. There was nothing cherry or bourbon about it. It was good, but it was just a sweet bbq sauce. Since we were getting naked wings I requested them to be cooked CRISPY/well done. They came out soggy to the point where I had to take the skin off of mine. It wasn't edible. Thankfully, they put plenty of sauce on the order so I was able to dip my skinless chicken into the sauce that collected at the bottom. My husband ordered the chili "special" (not sure what was special about it because it was $6) and a grilled cheese sandwich. He doesn't care for French fries so he asked for onion rings instead (we knew there was an additional charge). The small crock of chili came out loaded with sour cream on top... which is fine except that meant there was hardly any chili. The grilled cheese was THICK bread with a THIN slice of melted cheese. For the $1 uncharge of onion rings he received FOUR WHOLE ONION RINGS. If you're going to uncharge for an item (which is fine) at least make it a reasonable serving. I ordered the wicked chicken wrap with Nashville hot sauce. The chicken tasted like it had been leftover from a day or two before and chopped fine to conceal its leftover status. I honestly picked through it to verify it was chicken because the consistency was more like leftover ground beef. And for it to be flavored with Nashville hot sauce it was flavorless. Very, very disappointing. If you're going to hangout for sports and drinks - it's a great setup. If you're going for the food - save your wallet and your taste buds the misery. Giving this place 3-stars is generous but we're huge sports fans and it's NCAA March Madness so I'm feeling nice. read more

My girlfriend and I had arrived at the establishment of PJs on Fruitville pike and when we walked in there was no attendant at the desk so we figured they was busy so we waited and waited and no one showed. The bartender was clowning around with one of the customers but made eye contact with my girlfriend and I and still didn't get anyone to service us so we walked out. We came today to watch football and were blown away. They had a HUGE TV wall and you could see every game from every seat. They even had enough TVs to have the Phillies on as well! Our server, Kiana, told us about the Pub Club and half priced wings too! I had the new potato bite appetizer and my wife tried the autumn salad. Mine was good but she won't stop talking about hers!! Hostess seated us promptly and was fun to chat with while walking to our seats. The server was beyond compare.
