A little cold today and it wasn't quite the summer season yet, so everything was indoors…read more But this looks like a great place for summer drinks and activity. Located in the center of the Chain O' Lakes area, I'm sure this is a hot spot in summer. An amazing menu for this sports bar. They had a little (or a lot) of everything. I had the salmon with a bowl of one of their many soups. I wouldn't expect a bar to make great salmon, but they did not disappoint. I'd come back just to have it again. As far as the soups, I think they offered at least four. I ordered the Loaded Veggie (or something like that!). It was very good. Friendly staff, everything prepared well. Lots of interesting locals to talk to at the bar.

Well, another reason why I love Waupaca. Chain O' Lakes Bar…read more& Grill is exactly what you hope to find when you pull up to a resort‑area bar and grill-- it seems welcoming and friendly, and I bet this place packed in the summer. Even in the off‑season, it has that "weekend" energy, in a good way. If I lived here, this would be a primary hangout for a beer or two. They've got a solid tap list, nothing special but definitely better than your standard domestic‑only lineup. We ended up splitting a Cuban sandwich, which came with homemade potato chips which were quite good. But the real surprise was the jambalaya. Saw this after the fact but lots of Yelpers have been making note of this soup. Tons of flavor, great spice level, and it feels like something you'd never expect from a typical Northwoods bar menu. And yes, you can even take home a quart of the soup. Next time I am in Waupaca, I am bringing some home. The menu in general is what you'd expect from a place like this--burgers, wraps, sandwiches--but with more variety and more "made‑with-care" options than the usual lakeside joint. There's plenty of parking, and for warm weather months they've even got volleyball courts, which adds to that relaxed resort atmosphere. Overall: a great stop if you're in the area, and absolutely worth revisiting for that jambalaya alone.

We learned about Indian Crossing Casino about a year ago and knew they offered a smash burger…read more Recently we decided to stop by and check it out. The location does not house a gambling casino. Casino used to refer to a building for dancing, meetings, and entertainment, hence the name. We parked in the lot and headed toward the wooden building with the curved roof. The casino building and some of the nearby buildings reminded me of buildings at Indiana Beach, and I realized these had some history to them as well. They date back to the 1920s, and it's great to see them still in use. Inside, we found a lot of seating, a curtained stage for live music, a bar, and garage doors open to the Chain O'Lakes. The spring-fed lake nearby has beautiful green water and was busy with boat traffic on a warm sunny Saturday. We found some seats and the bar and ordered some beers. We both ordered the Wanna Smash Burger: two patties with American cheese, thick peppery bacon, lettuce, red onion, and their ICC sauce served with kettle potato chips ($18). I didn't really want bacon on my burger, but it turned out that this was some really fine thick bacon, hanging well outside of the boundaries of the bun, and it was delicious. The burger was good as well, and the ICC sauce had a bit of sweetness to it. The access to the lake on a beautiful day makes this a great option for food and/or drinks.

The setting by the lake was definitely relaxing--we enjoyed sitting outside and watching the boats…read morepass by. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the view. The onion rings lacked flavor, and the wings weren't crispy at all. We tried two different wing flavors, but they were so bland that I honestly can't even remember which ones we ordered. The sauces didn't add much either. On top of that, the sweet potato fries were disappointing--some weren't even fully cooked and were still cold in the middle. This would be a nice spot to stop for some drinks or refreshments while enjoying the lake, but for food, I'd look elsewhere.

The parking lot was packed, but we were starving, so we went inside and found the brightest bar we've ever seen. Obviously the lights were on full strength for bingo night and it was full of people having fun playing Bingo! The bar was full all the way around, but we found one tiny, empty table on the wall that we were able to snag! We ordered our drinks from the bar and a server came out to take our orders. We started with the taco fries, which were on special, since it was Taco Tuesday - so yummy! We caught the last couple of rounds of bingo...while we waited for our food. We enjoyed watching and listening to everyone play bingo. The menu was loaded with choices and we both ended up ordering the Philly Cheesesteak. This was a fun time with yummy food...so we can't wait to visit again!
