I was told this place was the In and Out Burger equivalent in Austin so I had to come try this place for myself while I was in town. As soon as you walk in the place, you get a very old-school 50s feel to it- a simple and practical interior. I got a burger and fries. The burger cost $2.50 and I added jalepenos for 20 cents. Fries were $1.89, prices are very reasonable. The burger came wrapped in oil tinged paper and unveiling the burger was less than appealing to be honest, the taste was actually very good. Juicy, good flavor and the jalapeños were diced and spread onto the burger and was perfect. The fries came wrapped in a paper cone and again, looked drab and flaccid but was surprisingly crisp. I fell into the hype, after waiting in line for 20 minutes we finally ordered. The burger wrapped in lettuce was so messy not to mention, tasteless. The only thing I really enjoyed was the hot fries. My husband said his burger was ok. The Arnold Palmer drink was so bitter, not even able to enjoy that. One thing that didn't make sense was no online ordering or it was for a limited amount per day, I don't know but it's crazy to make customers wait in line instead of offering another way to order. First, either the speaker wasn't working or the girl taking the order could not speak up, but I had trouble hearing her and she had trouble hearing me which led to us getting home with the wrong order. Ordered TWO combos; burger and grilled chicken. There was a long line behind us and when I got the bag at the window there was only one drink. Wife said "forget it, We have drinks at home. When we got home we had one burger combo and one chicken SANDWICH, not a combo. We didn't get overcharged but we had to share the fries. She said the chicken was good but the burger was the size of the McDonald's kids burger and it was really dry. Too many burger joints around to dal with this. AVOID AVOID AVOID Food is great. But the WORST customer service I've seen in a long time. The place is FILTHY. The tables are never clean. Staff is extremely rude and unwilling to help. I ordered my 2 meals clearly and they messed it up. When I asked for them to fix they rolled their eyes at me with an audible sigh like I was an inconvenience. As I was explaining what was wrong, another customer came up and said they did not get their drink. Which. The worst experience I can imagine has happened. I have been a vegetarian/pescatarian for over 25 years. We ordered two veggie burgers with cheese like we usually do. I trusted that our order was correct. Went to a park to eat our food and about 1/3 of the way through eating our burgers, I realized I tasted meat! I felt nauseous shortly afterwards. First timer absolutely blown away by P TERRY'S! The cheeseburgers were tasty and juicy and at just $4 for a double, a fantastic value. Definitively better than LA's overrated IN N OUT and wayyyyyy better than Texas's overhyped WHATABURGER. The fries were thin, crispy and delicious. The crispy chicken "burger" was also very good - a step above BK's original. The giant oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were also a big hit. Love the old school drive thru style while still having both indoor and outdoor seating. We went through the drive thru and based on the weather decided to eat on the lovely covered patio. Add a bonus star if you have a dog as they offer complimentary dog treats for your four legged besties. Ours enjoyed the treats, the leftovers and stretching out on the dog-friendly patio. Great meal, superb value, clean comfortable accommodations and a super friendly staff = 5 stars! read more

I wish it had a dine-in option but we are grateful they are close to our home! Stopped in here a while back to try a P. Terry's breakfast egg sandwich! Alas, my will weakened upon seeing the burgers on the grill (they serve them anytime they're open, apparently), so I got a burger, fries, and drink. Hot n' fresh, magnificently done. Tasty burger patty, a big heavy on the lettuce, and crispy if slightly over-salted fries. If you're from the West Coast, then a PT's is in the same ballpark as In N' Out, though with better fries. P. Terry's food also competes quite easily with some of the good, but more expensive burger options in Austin. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. This place made a great first impression for my wife and I. We went there around 2:30pm and the drive thru line was packed but it moved quickly thanks to the diligent and efficient staff. I got the double cheese and crispy chicken burger which were both delicious and their fries are great too. My wife got the veggie burger which she loved. Googie little place with simple menu-boards hung behind the cashiers. Order by number and specify your toppings. Functional tables and more-comfortable-than-they-look wood chairs. The burgers are antibiotic and hormone free (that the cattle was fed by vegetarians is a nice touch) available singly or doubly with cheese or not, with fries and a drink or not (also available meatless.) Went with a single combo + onions and pickles and will do so again. The meal is filling but not overwhelming. Hot, moist, flavory burger topped with greens, 'maters, secret sauce, onions, and pickles on a modest yet capable bun was a fine nightcap after a day of adventure along Austin's waterfront walking paths. read more

Tried a single meat cheeseburger without fries...got and paid for fries anyway, my wife ordered a cheeseburger combo with fries, we both thought the burgers were 3 stars and the fries a 2...tasted like the shoestring potatoes in a can. I tried a rootbeer milkshake, it was good but neither of us could detect a hint of rootbeer...2 stars. Tried a very average chocolate chip oatmeal cookie, did not finish it. This started out as a good review. It really did. This is a COVID-19 measures based review, so when the pandemic is under control I may revise it. I was headed to pick up a calzone for my girlfriend nearby, but I really wanted a good burger. I had been here before and was happy with what I had gotten, although I didn't find it great for the fast food experience. I understood from friends the chain had really stepped things up and the food was better, more consistent across locations. Time for another try. This is based on a visit on August 2nd, 2020, around 6:30pm. The drive-through was packed. The line was literally out to the street, and there were employees working to control the traffic and keep things safe. I didn't want to wait in that line, so I masked up, sanitized my hands, and went inside. It was great to see how conscientious they were in keeping the traffic controlled. For that, they get a star. I went inside, noted the markings on the ground to remind people to keep an appropriate distance. For the most part, the people were doing it right, but you can't really control the customers. The kitchen was packed, so no possibility to keep distance there, but that's to be expected. Literally every person in the kitchen was wearing a mask, and doing so properly. I felt confident in their ability to keep the public and the employees safe. There's two stars, total of three. Moving on to the ordering process. The cashier took my order, and did it well. I had a questions and he was able to promptly answer it without hesitation. This is becoming a great experience. They were really busy, so I expected to wait a little. It really was a bit of a zoo in the drive-through. I understand their struggle here. So far, I haven't even gotten my food and we're now up to four stars. I'm expecting good things. While waiting for my order, one of the guys in the kitchen pulled his mask down. He realized his faux pas and put it back up immediately, and I think he sanitized his hands but there was stuff in the way so I can't be certain. Good recovery, so still not bad. A few minutes later, the woman who was preparing the buns and toasting them had her nose hanging out of her mask. About two minutes into this, I decided to see how long this would last and started my timer. Within a minute, two other women behind the counter were similarly wearing the masks incorrectly. I now counted three noses, and then the one guy from earlier was again working with his mask below his chin. The immediate reaction he had the previous time was not present...he just kept working. After four minutes from when I started timing, I went to the counter to cancel my order. I get it when you're busy, you might slip briefly like the guy did earlier. But you catch it and make it right. That time had long passed. One of the people, not the same one who took my order, came up to see what I needed. I told her I wanted to cancel my order. She asked my order number, smiled, and went to a line of bags where my order was actually already done and waiting for me. I told her I didn't want the food now that about five minutes had passed and four people, about a third of the employees, were not wearing their masks properly. The original cashier came to the counter. I told him the same thing, I didn't want the food now since so many people were working without being properly masked for so long. One person shouted out to the crew, and actually only singled the one guy out, seemingly ignoring the other two people, and gloriously failing to realize she was one of the people with her nose hanging out. Finally, a young guy who was apparently a manager came over. He voided the order, no apology, not asking what the problem was. I told him I was happy when I walked in, but when a full third of the crew is putting the rest of the employees, as well as the customers, at risk, I cannot bring my business there. As I walked out, a small family (two adults and a child) was approaching the door. I mentioned the crew wasn't properly masked and they immediately turned around and went elsewhere. I completely understand how the masks can be uncomfortable. I get the occasional slip. This duration and lack of awareness was unacceptable. I wish the health department would make surprise visits to enforce this. And they started out so well! My initial impression was excellent. Ten minutes later, I feel I may never visit another P. Terry's, and I will strongly encourage others to avoid it as well. read more

For anyone who has heard of In-n-Out, this would be something along those lines. They offer quick service/fast food with plenty of seating. The burgers are small so if you are feeling a little 'hangry' I suggest you order 2 or 3. The fries were great but the best part of our quick lunch was the lemonade. It's fresh tasting and I want more. Great spot for a quick burger and fries. read more

First time here. I ordered the cheeseburger combo with fries & drink. Everything made with fresh ingredients. You can add on by request onions & pickles with no additional charge. They even offered the onions grilled. Very good burger and they don't skimp on the fries. For dessert I ordered the cookie. Cost was only dollar with no tax...which I found interesting.
