Ive been going to this place for oh about 15 years through several changes of management but this is ending. I just had the burger of the month, Jolly Rancher and it was the lowest quality tasteless burger I've ever eaten. The bacon was missing, though there was a bacon bit or two. If they had the advertised cheese I couldn't find it. Two dry buns, a patty with some overly sweet mustard mayo mix, some sliced onions that I had to pull off because they were too stringy to eat, and I'm paying gourmet price for this garbage. Really there is no excuse for allowing that crap to ever leave a kitchen. The table was wobbly and the ambiance in the dining room is not particularly welcoming. The worst part is that they demand tip at point of sale and I left a pretty big one. No way to take it back, so consider it a goodbye gift. read more

Upon seeing the $8 fried pickles, I thought I was being punked. The small bag that they use for fries was about 1/3 full of pickles. It might have been a pickle and a half before being sliced and fried. They were also saturated in oil to the point where when squeezing oil dropped out, and this is after they had saturated the to-go bag. Really disappointing! I'm always looking for the next great burger spot and decided to give this place a try. Located at the corner of Anderson Mill Road and 183 you'll find this spacious no-frills restaurant with rock music playing overhead. The menu features a good selection of burger options, but they also have protein alternatives, kids meals, hot dogs and cheesesteaks. Whatever you decide on, you can expect the tip screen to be waiting for you. I chose their basic classic cheeseburger with fries. To drink, I just decided on water, but I was pleased to see that they have a good selection of bottled beer, including craft beer. The burger came out with fresh veggies, however, the pattie itself looked as though it had been a previously frozen patty before it was grilled. The fries are not fresh sliced home fries, they are definitely also previously frozen then fried. They were crunchy and decent, but they wouldn't make my list of great fries. The bun itself is unique in that it has a good doughy texture. I don't like the fact that everything is stuffed on to this tiny small 5 x 7" metal tray. Overall it was a decent burger and fries, but it does not make my list of great burger joints. It's on the level of P Terrys more or less. Good, just not great. read more

I love the food here and it's often times pretty good but this last time i went was just awful. They're lucky enough to get three stars as it is, the food being the saving grace. I will admit, I went with my partner thirty minutes before close, which is something most food service workers don't like, but that still did not excuse the rude behavior from the girl behind the counter. To start, she was short when we ordered and then proceeded to be rude when there was an issue with my drink. I had ordered a salted caramel shake, drink some of it, and did my best to get over the incredible salty taste. It was like I was drinking milk mixed with salt. I had asked if it was possible to get a different shake as I didn't like the salty taste, to which she replied, "Well, it's twenty minutes before we close and we're shutting everything down, so" I've worked in the food service industry for five years. I understand wanting to be done. But you're still open. You're still taking orders. I was too stunned to really react but later went back up to try to talk to someone else. Instead she came over with a snarky comment, "I can just give you a refund." She acted as if I insulted her. I ended up just boxing my food and going home. So Moonies used to have the best onion rings and fried mushrooms around. I stopped by today and ordered both. This time I got onion ring pieces - very few actual whole onion rings. And instead of whole mushrooms, the fried mushrooms were just sliced stems and pieces. It was like eating mushroom chips. Mostly all breading because the slices are thin instead of whole mushrooms. We've been to Moonie's before but this is our first time to the Anderson Mill location. We ordered our usual burgers, the California and the Western, with a side of tots. It took a little while for the food to come out but the burgers and tots were delicious. However we felt that the price we paid didn't match our expectations for how much food we received. The table we sat at was dirty and sticky, and this appeared to be the case for all the tables and booths at this establishment. During our time there, we didn't see any bussers or any worker come out to clean any part of the restaurant. Overall, we probably wouldn't return to this Moonie's. read more

Nut allergy friendly. I ordered the Diablo with sweet potato fries and tater tots to go and it took about 20 minutes to be ready (arrived early and waited). I sampled the sweet potato fries and tater tots as I picked up my order. The sweet potato fries came out hot and seemingly crispy. I later saw and tasted that they were really just overloaded with salt, which contributed to the texture. (3/5) The tater tots were already soggy when I picked up and weren't anything special. (1.5/5) I will say that the portions of sides are decently generous. The Diablo burger was requested medium rare and I got something closer to medium. It was a very messy to eat burger but I'd say it compares against other specialty burger places. Nice kick with fresh ingredients and decently sized. (3.5/5) Overall I'd say it's an average diner experience with a decent burger. read more

It took us 4 years to finally make it here, but I can definitely say we left quite satisfied. A few comments. 1. It's more expensive than fast food so don't be shocked 2. The buns are to die for 3. The burgers are excellent. There is nothing I would change. But the sides are inconsistent. The fries have improved. They used to be limp but now they are crispy and good. A+ on the improvement. But, Moonie's lost the formula for the Queso. It used to be creamy, thick, cheesy, and not over-spiced. The bowl I got today had a thinner consistency, and it tasted too strongly of chili powder. The chips served alongside were lukewarm and stale-tasting. Guys, tighten up on those side orders. I used to love the Queso and now.. ick. I rated you a 4 instead of lower because I know that you can get back to a 5 with a few tweaks. To end on a positive note, the burgers remain fantastic as always. Seriously, you can get a Reuben burger, a French dip burger, Swiss and mushrooms, Hawaiian, California, Philly cheesesteak, and many others! Noted is their artisan buns different from the usual sesame buns, and the veggies were all fresh and crispy. My toddler really liked her kid's meal as well and the tater tots were fried perfectly not oily. Restaurant looked clean at first glance. Service was friendly but not overly so. They were super nice about my kid spilling her drinks even though I felt bad about it. They are right next to catch air too so it's easy to grab a bite before/after playing there. Burgers are large and cooked perfectly. Great craft buns. I'm not sure if they are baked in house or not, but they are very fresh, soft, and tasty. Hand spun milkshakes were excellent. Battered French fries were cooked perfectly. I highly recommend for a quality burger. read more

It has been a while since I've enjoyed a Moonies burger, and I had to ask myself why it took so long to come back. Although, it's not the same as the original location in Cedar Park, it's still delivered. The food was wonderful... My go to is the western burger, tangy, and delicious barbecue sauce, the onion rings, are outstanding. I do wish the hamburger patties were a little thicker, but overall, wonderful tasting meat. Service was a little slow, but the order taker did inform me before she hit submit on the order that they were running about 20 minutes to make my meal. My friend and I stopped by for lunch on Saturday. There were a few people there already eating. No lines to the register, we were helped immediately. Jennifer was super nice and helpful about food questions we had. Jennifer was friendly, we were telling her about our weekend. My friend was visiting from out of town, and she was just saying how wonderful people have been, and how fun austin is. And Jennifer was telling her that it's just how people are in Texas. Just girl chit chat kind of stuff. She really made us feel welcomed and made it more personable. I ordered the Cesar chicken salad and sweet potatoes fries and onion rings to share, and my friend got the burger melt. My friend loved her burger. As for me, the salad was good. I got 2 dressings on the side. 1 was plenty for me. Croutons on my salad were really good, and fresh. Romain was crispy and very good. Chicken was grilled chicken and had great grilled flavor. For a salad, it was really good. The sweet potato fries were delicious. Addicting. And the onion rings were very good too. I like the light batter they use. It was plenty of food to pack half up and snack on it later. And that's what I did. Jennifer came over to our table as we were packing up and she wished us a good day and told my friend to come back and visit again. Jennifer was pure Texas hospitality. This used to be our favorite burger spot when we lived up north. We just happened to be in the area so we decided to stop for lunch. My husband ordered a gluten free bun for his burger. He said he could tell it was kept in the fridge and it was ice cold in the center. He had them remake the burger. He claims there was a little push back from the employee about it but it was eventually made correctly and warm. The burger patty's themselves were dry and not juicy like we remember. The ONE thing that I might change next time is to choose a different bun (Texas toast, maybe?) because the sweetness of the original bun threw me off just a bit, but that's not a knock on Moonie's, at all! It's on me because it clearly lists Sweet and Hearty on the Yelp menu! Hubby had the Swiss and Mushroom Burger, to which he added grilled onions! He loved it and mainlined it, but he and I both agree that mine was the better burger! I'm never sure that adding a bunch of wet grilled onions to a burger is ever a good idea, but that's just a personal thing! Hubby loved it! As for the sides, I can wax poetic for hours about the deliciousness of the tater tots, the fries, and the onion rings (don't judge us!)! Y'all, all three of those things were YUMMY!
