Terry's is the better chain, no questions asked. You can't go wrong with a standard cheeseburger and fries here, but a note of caution: try to eat it fresh - the fries in particular don't take out very well. The food here is pretty damn good. The burger was a little undercooked. The ambience was nice, good music, etc. Customer service was a little to pushy. I haven't been to a P. Terry's in SO LONG, and this place certainly helped me remember what I love about it. First, I've always been to ones with outdoor seating so I enjoyed that there was an inside dining room! They still have a drive-thru and outdoor seating, though. It was incredibly clean and their color scheme is so fun. Second, the ordering process was so quick! I just ordered the regular hamburger combo, which comes with fries and a drink. Unless you're ravenous, you could probably share the fries with a friend! The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, and their mayo-based "special sauce". If you want pickles or onions, just let them know and they can add it! Apparently they will also grill your onions if you ask. They offer a breakfast/brunch menu until 11AM, I hear their shakes are fantastic, you're full without breaking the bank, and they serve Coke products. What's not to love? read more

I've been to the famous Sandy's burger on Barton Springs Rd. that has been flipping patties since the 1940s. Although iconic and historic, I don't think Sandy's tastes any better than Whataburger, aka a fast-food burger. To me, P. Terry's tastes exactly like a burger should. I like my burgers simple with no frills. A thin patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and American cheese. P. Terry's delivers on all fronts. Ok if you are in Austin you have to try this place. The price is great and the food wad really good. I would say it is like an In and Out restaurant but the burgers were better. They didn't seem as greasy as In and Out. They have fresh vegetables, the fries were crispy, and the special sauce was great. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the service! It was amazing. Have you ever been in a line waiting and listening to the employees speaking to the customers and hope that you get that employee to check you out? That's what happen here! Wow. We visited here after being drawn by it's classic look and hopes the food was the same. As I walked in I hear the wonderful sound of french fry cutter, and my hopes are being fulfilled. A classic, tasty, great priced, friendly burger stand. I even ordered a crispy chicken sandwich to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised how tasty it was for resembling a school lunch patty. When I came in September, I forgot to have some PTs and I gotta say, it was delicious! Burgers are never frozen, grass fed, they have vegetarian options and the French fries are home cut. I enjoyed every single bite. I had the single with jalapeños, bacon and onions. They have a signature sauce that is also very good, they place it on the burger, no need to ask for it. I also love that it's open until late, 3am on Friday's and Saturday. Great for a quick bite to eat. Recommend if you have in-out-burger to try this place, you might just be as surprised as I was. I went to P'Terry's on my way to work and running late, thinking I'd eat in the car while driving. I hadn't eaten there in a few months. Pulling out of the parking lot and into traffic, I quickly remembered why. I grabbed a fry and WOW. I almost chipped a tooth. Extremely HARD and COLD. How can food you have just received be this cold and stale. GROSS! This place is still considered fairly new. They are expanding like crazy and this is what they are serving. Good luck! Their fries aren't wrapped up too well. I mean instead of having a nice box for them to be in their put in this sloppy wrapping paper. Usually they're good but one time they were burnt.
