I attended a Wine and Food pairing dinner here with Paradise Hills Vineyards. It was amazing!! When you walk into Pacífico restaurant you are surrounded by an instant glow of chill, beautiful, Latino vibes. From the decor to the menu you are transported to another world that encourages you to relax and enjoy the Pacífico experience. I couldn't get over how well everything was paired and how each course pairing got better and better. It was clear that both Paradise Hills and Pacífico Restaurant took a lot of time to make sure every course and wine complimented each other perfectly. I'm surprised to see this having low reviews. My boyfriend and I just dined in at the upstairs restaurant and absolutely loved it. Great atmosphere and amazing drinks and food. I'm in love with their cocktails at the bottom of the menu that have like jalapeño, lavender, basil, etc; I've tried two of them now and loved both. As for food we treated it like tapas and got the grilled octopus, salmon tartar, steak skewer, and duck quesadillas. Followed by the passion fruit flan for dessert. The food was all cooked perfectly and we definitely intend to come back. Our waitress Regi was very sweet! Literally the only small critique I have is to maybe time the food slightly better. The table we were at was very small, and we hadn't finished our first two dishes before suddenly the other two were brought out, but there was no where to put them and they awkwardly had to be sent back. What is this culinary sorcery? From first glimpsing the restaurant's vibrant color scheme to that last morsel of tres leches pound cake, the entire experience at Pacifico was pure perfection. Refreshing glasses of coconut and mango mojitos kicked off the dinner, each garnished with a straw of raw sugar cane - achieving the flawless balance of a minty, tropical elixir without being cloyingly sweet. From the extensive tapas menu, we ordered four plates to share; the night's special of yellowfin tuna ceviche in coconut milk, plus a plate of puerquitos (braised pork belly in a jalapeno pepper jam). We continued with the quesadilla brimming with shredded duck, roasted peppers, and smoked gouda, rounded out with a roasted corn salsita, jalapeno aioli and a pomegranate reduction. While each of these small plates tantalized our tastebuds accordingly, the real star was our order of ostras fritas mofongo - crispy oysters over mofongo (plantain mash) topped with a saffron-mojito sauce in a lovely presentation still in the oyster shells. Service was prompt and pleasant, and water was refilled consistently. A shared dessert of tres leches pound cake with fresh whipped cream concluded the meal. So why I have I not reviewed this place? Because it's not up there for me. Other than the mojitos(which do kick ass btw), the place is not that great. I've eaten there on numerous occasions, given it all kind of chances...and the only edible things I have had are the lobster quesadillas and the desserts. Two of the meals I've ordered had to be sent back. The service--other than the bartenders, who are awesome--is usually mediocre. This place tries way to hard to be...well, Roomba almost. It's not. I really hate to have to give such a cool looking place such a bad review....but, they do it to themselves! Basically one star for the drinks and bartenders and one for the decor. read more

So it took us a while to come back here again, after a rather unmemorable first dining experience when we first moved to The Haven in June 2010. But upon second visit we'll definitely be coming back for more. Serving up neuvo-Latino fare, each dish is packed with unique flavors that really leave a lasting impression. We split the duck quesadilla and mussels with chorizo as a starter and I think you can have many fine meals here just tasting all the different dishes in their tapas section. The mussels were kind of small, but the chorizo and rich garlic broth made up for any short comings of those underdeveloped mollusks. My wife got the yellowfin tuna taco as her main plate, which was really well executed and fresh. I had the Churrasco a la Parrilla, which is a grilled skirt steak with chino-latino stir-fried rice with sweet plantains and lobster. Every damn bite of that dish was awesome and I especially love the sofrito sauce that is served with the meat. Looking forward to exploring the menu some more, but a great option if you're looking for Latin flavors in downtown New Haven. read more

My wife and I celebrated an anniversary in New Haven last weekend and this restaurant was a great part of it. The atmosphere was very nice. Te bar was beautiful! Very good selection of drinks and are well known apparently for there Mojitos and Margaritas. Since my wife and I do not like Mojitos we had Margaritas, which were awesome! For dinner we had a Fried Calamari app followed by a Paella for me and a Churrasco a la Parilla for her. We both really enjoyed our meals and were most happy with the portions. Hers was just enough. We did not want to be too full since we hoped to dance later. Although I enjoyed the option to add a side of Lobster to my dish, I probably wouldn't do it again since it became messy cracking the claw. I have no problem cracking lobsters but I was not dressed to do that on that night. read more

If I could give 3.5 stars I would, but 3 will do. I decided to go here once I realized I could complete the Mexican-influenced trifecta that includes Geronimo and Oaxaca. I think there all pretty good, but I'd give Oaxaca a slight edge even though it's been a little while. Other reviews have mentioned the guacamole mixed fresh at the table. Some people like this, others don't. Put me in the like column. You get to see that the guacamole's fresh and not scooped out of a vat made hours ago. The menu offered a spicy option, which I chose. The bartender said I could even get a side of extra jalapenos to mix in. Those didn't show up, but I asked for them since the spicy version needed extra flavor. If spicy's bland, what's the regular version like? The lobster quesadilla helped save the day. What's not to like about lots of melted cheese and lobster? Not much. Everyone's friendly enough at Pacifico, so no complaints there. I would go back to try some items that I saw pass by like the beet salad and the sea bass. I would say that my experience Palomino's restaurants so far have been a bit lacking overall. The place in Fairfield struggled to find its footing and is now closed. Bistro Latino in Greenwich lures diners in with discount vouchers and then does a bait and switch with a skimpy version of the menu. At Pacifico, the bartender was unable to recommend a small plate option (even though he did say the entree versions were good). They seem to hit a lot of the right notes, but perhaps a bit of tweaking is in order. That would be a good reason to go back to Pacifico and Bistro Latino. read more

I came to Pacifico with a friend for dinner and really enjoyed it! We came at 5:30 and surprisingly, there were a couple of other groups already eating. But since it was early, the staff was attentive and the food came out quickly. We decided to order three tapas: the guacamole with chips, crab cake, and duck quesadillas. The bread with tomato sauce that comes with the meal was decent. The tomato sauce was good, but the bread was on the plain and dry side so we used up all of the sauce. Guacamole with chips ($13) was great! I really liked the guac, which was not the most flavorful guac I've ever had, but pretty good. The tortilla chips were standard. They also mash up the guac in front of you, which is slightly strange because it already looks pretty mashed up and mixed when they bring it out and seemed a bit redundant. And since they're not making the guac in front of me, I'm okay with it being mashed in the kitchen as well. The crab cake ($12) was moist and flavorful. I wasn't particularly impressed with the mango vinaigrette doused arugula and slaw on the side, but it's always good to have some greens to eat after the crab cake (would not recommend eating the crab cake with the mango flavoring). While I really enjoyed the crab cake, I think it was a bit on the pricey end for its size but I would get it again. The duck quesadillas ($12) were amazing!! The jalapeno aioli sauce mixed with the slightly sweet bbq-like taste of the duck was perfect, and the cheese was melted just the right amount. All of the different flavors and textures worked really well together, and I enjoyed the light roasted corn salsita on the side. This was definitely my favorite dish, you absolutely need to try this! I had a really fun time here and enjoyed the food! I will definitely be back, and will have to try their lobster quesadillas as well (my friend says he likes them even more than the duck ones). read more

We had a very poor experience at Pacifico. We went to happy hour after work and were told that Friday is not included in their happy hour despite what the website says (and they would not honor what their website stated), their website, menu and QR code menu are all different making it very difficult to decipher what is actually on the menu. The final nail in the coffin is they would not allow us to split the bill by 3 credit cards, they stated that they only allow one credit card or cash. The Yuka fries were bomb and the server was great but we will certainly never return. read more

It's pricey, but man, is it good. I was here for a birthday party, and I had the paella with a dirty martini. They made the martini well, and I asked for it very dirty, lots of olives. Not only did I get extra olives, but they brought a separate rocks glass with more for me. The paella was very good, though a little scant on the seafood - I think I had barely two of each thing: Clam, mussel, shrimp, scallop. What was really cool was the fresh guacamole - mixed in front of you in a stone bowl. If you have a bit of extra cash to spend on food and parking, I'd recommend going here. read more

Quesadilla de Pato (aka duck) is melt in your mouth delicious. Tender and flavorful duck sandwiched between two crispy tortilla shells. Sprinkled with corn salsa and a dash of love. Do yourself a favor and TRY THIS. The Paella Polormino was tasty too. Overall a night filled with yummy food and merriment. A friend recommended Pacifico saying they have the best Mojitos around. Hey Mike, sorry but I have to disagree with you there. The drinks were typical, and not consistent. My friend ordered two coffee martini's... the first one was ok but the second one was so strong she could not drink it. Their food and service were spot on! We started with a table order of the mild fresh guac. and chips. It was perfect! Only complain, please gives us more chips with the order. Had to keep asking for more chips every time to finish our guac. Our main courses were delightful. I ordered the Churrasco a la Parrilla with stir-fry rice with plantain and a side of chimichurri sauce. It was so tasty and juicy. My fiancee ordered ensalata, short rib empanadas and a flank steak. My friend and his wife went with the whole sea bass and the burger. Only complain are the way the tables are setup. We sat on the table by the front window and the seating arrangement was super awkward. We did not have enough room and kept having to move so our waitress could get through and we would also bump into our neighboring tables. Overall Pacifico was a good culinary experience. I visited Pacifico on a Tuesday evening around 8pm. We were quickly seated at a spacious table in the candlelit restaurant. After some deliberation, we settled on the Alitas de Puerco en Tocino, Quesadilla de Pato, and Empanadas de Platano. All three orders were prepared very well, with full and well-balanced flavours. The staff were sufficiently attentive and the setting was conducive to conversation. Recommendations: -I'd recommend all three items, although the Quesadilla de Pato was probably my favourite. The prefixe brunch menu is not that bad, it's fairly priced and it comes with a mimosa/appetizer/entree. They had cerviche for appetizer, so we had to get it becuz how can anyone say no to cerviche? Writing an updated review. Our server Reggi (nickname) was sensational, attentive and knowledgeable. The drinks are fantastic and the food is tasty yet not overwhelming. Where to start? This place is totally mismanaged and the establishment is pretty gross. One of the bathrooms was out of order, yet the door to the bathroom was left open without a sign on the door, and the toilet-which did not flush-was full of poop. Food was mediocre and it took forever. No Bloody Mary available during Sunday brunch because they ran out of mix. (Why not just make a fresh batch? As a former bartender, I can attest that it ain't rocket science.) I asked for coffee and the waitress brought me black tea. When I informed her that the drink was tea and not coffee, she argued that she saw the beverage being poured from the coffee container-therefore, it must be coffee. She eventually came back and apologized for the mistake, but the fact that she didn't initially believe me, as if I didn't know the difference, was a bit frustrating. And to top it off, when we received the check the pen was empty. And I don't mean broken or out of ink. Aside from a spring, it was completely hollow. Had the Chaulafan for lunch today as part of a work meeting. I enjoyed every last bite of deliciousness that was created in that dish. Although I wished for one more bite of sweet plantain, it made me think of the long-standing line in entertainment - 'always leave them wanting more'. It has two floors, so it can accommodate a large group, but it gets packed especially during the weekends, so it's safe to make a reservation in advance. This place is just off. As many have noted, the food is not particularly tasty or fresh. The GF designations on the menu are also suspect - how does guac have gluten? Or an app consisting of just olives and garlic? Whereas friend things you would think have gluten (calamari, crab cakes) supposedly do not. We asked the waitress and she said it could be for "store-bought" stuff the kitchen isn't sure about. Um, is your guacamole store-bought??? Salmon tartare - mushy unappealing texture. The mojito was hyped up, but tasted like it was made from a mix. Beets tasted canned. Duck quesadilla was actually good - but my GF friend couldn't have any. Queso fundido was ok. Food and drinks were great, the service however was horrible. Came in for Happy Hour with a group on a Monday Night. The place appeared relatively empty when I arrived and a few people came during my time there, but the restaurant was far from packed. We had reservations for 12 and were seated in the front portion of the restraint that had space for at least 24 people. Happy Hour Prices were very reasonable. Drinks and appetizers were $5 each. They had margaritas, mojitos, and sangrias. The drinks were mostly ice, but tasted pretty good. The food was good, nothing phenomenal. When we first got there, there was only 5 of us and we were trying to put in our order and the waiter already seemed unhappy to have to tell us what was on the happy hour menu because they did not have a physical menu to show us. When asked if we could have different checks he was extremely difficult because he said it was not their policy to split checks. Then we explained that we needed a seperate check for food and drinks because we could not bill the drinks on one of our cards, and he finally said yes. When we placed our orders, he would not allow us to order more than one drink at a time because it was their policy that you have to finish your drink first. He probably just said it because he did not was us ordering off the happy hour menu. When we were basically done with our drink and wanted another he was still reluctant to take more orders and brought the drinks about roughly 20 min after the order was placed. The rest of the group came and we were at 12 (number we reserved), but had more 2 more friends come, and the waiter and a man who seemed like the manager said that we only had reservations for 12 and did not want to seat the additional people. The other half of the room was empty and there was 2 tables that could sit 8 people, as well as additional space at one of the large tables we were occupying however they still were extremely rude. At the very end when we were paying to leave, ONE of the girls asked if she could have her parking validated and he said "NO! It's only for dinner and YOU just ordered from Happy Hour." Which was not true and blantly rude, because we continued to place orders after happy hour and just spent a large some of money at their establishment. Overall, despite the food and drinks being good, due to the waiter and the manager being extremely rude and unexceptable I will never be coming back and would not recommend anyone to come here. read more
