Train wreck!! RUN in the opposite direction! No written quote provided, despite request. Rate changed from $130/hr to $150/hr without notice. Specifically request packing service (which was agreed to). Movers showed up not prepared to pack anything. They were argumentative and threatened to leave. And they smelled like they had smoked all the cigarettes in the world before they arrived. They ended up moving about half my stuff, damaging the hardwood floor and dinging several walls. They handed me a bill at the end of their time and the one guy actually had the balls to say to me "tips are not included but are appreciated." I spent the next few days moving the rest of the stuff myself and cleaning up after them. Lucky to have had that option. I have no idea how this place stays in business. I am happy to move on with my life and forget about this experience, but want to make sure I share my review so that it might save someone else from making a tragic mistake. Buyer beware! Make sure you get a signed contract for the price you were quoted before you actually have the mover show up! This was the biggest mistake we made in hiring this company. The morning of our move, The guys showed up on time and ready to go. However they came under the impression that they were going to be collecting twice the amount that we were actually quoted. When we disputed the cost one of the guys said " that could actually be the price." We decided to call Lou who gave me the original quote only for him to tell me that I must have mixed up the Moving Company that gave me that quote. He hasn't given a price that low in 10 years. Suddenly he had no recollection of the three separate phone calls that we had where we confirmed each time the cost. My first called to him was to get a quote when I was calling several companies to compare prices. When I called a second time to actually hire and schedule the move date, I confirmed the price again and asked about a contract. Lou stated they would bring the contract with them the day of the move that I didn't need to worry about doing anything before. Lou was very cordial and made it clear he was here to help. That was my first mistake, believing and trusting him. When I spoke to him the morning of the move to try to resolve the conflict with the pricing, he actually told me that he would call his guys and pull him out if the price didn't work. Of course we could not back out at that point because we had already been prepared to move that day out of the space that we had already given notice to our leasing company to leave. With that he offered to take $10 an hour off the new price and give a smaller window of time to complete the move. Thank you? Fortunately the two guys he did send were very quick and they made sure they got everything out within the timeframe that we were now allotted. So no disrespect to them. This review is based solely on the lack of work ethic displayed by Lou. And again my fault for trusting trusting his word. We will definitely not recommend working with Lou or this company to any of our other work colleagues or friends. We are a small business in collaboration with a lot of other associates. Never hire this company they will break your things, make sure everything is in writing before taking their word over a phone. Get details first or you will be charged for 30 minutes of them cleaning their truck ya right, they will scam you of your money they work 4 hours and charge you for 7 hours of work plus you have to pay their lunch time and them driving back to their yard on your dime. According to life's stressors, moving ranks up there with divorce, starting a new job, losing a spouse, etc. In other words, the smoother a move goes, the less stress you should experience. To compound things, oftentimes a move coincides with one of those life stressors - at least that was the case with me. I spoke with the owner of the company a few weeks before my move date and secured a Saturday move. I was told "between noon and 1 o'clock." Cool. I can work with that. So I proceeded to get boxes out and ready, furniture out in front, everything labeled, etc. If you can't already tell, I'm a petite Asian woman. I woke up early and did all this prep work and by the time noon rolled around I was exhausted. 1:15. No phone call, nothing. I called and was reassured that they "were on their way." Okaaaayyy....so I waited again. 2:30 pm I call again and was told that they were indeed "on their way." I was then asked if I wanted to change the move date to Sunday. Wait a minute. I'm busy. Like most folks, I do the hard slog all week and my weekends are planned out. I hadn't planned on moving Sunday, I had planned on moving Saturday. Plus, I had spent all this time and energy getting everything out of the house to facilitate the move. Now you're asking me to move everything back into the garage and house? 3:30 movers show up. But they can't make it up the driveway because of tree limbs. Really? Why wasn't this issue explained to me when I booked the job? I do feel for the movers. They are just doing their job. I was then told that Sunday would indeed be a better. At this point, it's too late to hire someone else last minute so I accept Sunday. I had to cancel my mini move-in party Saturday evening because my new place had no furniture, nada. It was very sad and I was disappointed. 8:00 am. Sunday morning arrives. I hired someone meanwhile the night prior to come and chop off some tree limbs so that the truck could go up the driveway. They do show up on time and then I'm told that there are more limbs in the way. So despite me getting tree work done, they will still have to manually walk down the street and driveway to move my stuff. At this point I am beyond livid. I said I should at least get an extra hour thrown in for free because I expected my move to go more smoothly. So one of the movers, I think it's Tom (who is a great guy, BTW) calls and assures me that yes, an extra hour has been provided. These guys work their heart out. They took care with breakables, none of my furniture got scratched and they know how to be efficient with their time. HOWEVER if you book a move for Saturday then you expect to move Saturday. Is that unreasonable? And why should I have to be the one calling the business to find out what the heck is going on because they are late? Perhaps the owner needs to come out to scope out the property before promising times and dates. On the flip side, I would recommend these guys if you do not have any trees on your street or driveway and if you use them first thing in the morning. read more

It's been a few weeks, but I wanted to make sure that I wrote my review for Pac N Box. They answered my message quickly which didn't happen with the other movers I called. My move was a little more complicated than most and the movers handled things carefully and quickly. There was a large piece that had to be taken up stairs which was very difficult, But they managed to get it done without a mark on anything. My fiance called this company because we needed help moving and she thought the price per hour was fair. The guy told her it was going to be $120.00 per hour and he will have a crew of four guys. He also said that he will be there at 8:00 AM. The next day, he calls and says that he had to move the time to 11:00 AM because he had to finish another job. When he gets to our house, he shows up at 11:30 AM and did not get started until 11:45 AM. He also did not show up with four guys. It was just him and another guy. They worked at a fast pace and then decided to clock out at 2:30 PM for lunch which was fine. They showed up at our new house at 3:25 PM to unload the truck. The guy asked me where do I want the table? I told him to put it in the garage only later to find out that he left it at our door step in the rain. They broke a stair at our old house when they were moving stuff out. They also broke, one of our solid oak dining chairs, book cases, and boards that go to our beds. They put the heavy boxes on top of the light boxes, causing them to smash. When they got finished the guy changed his deal and tried to charge us for seven hours of work in which he actually done only four and a half hours. He also tried charging us for the drive over here, cleaning his truck, and going home. His one mistake was, he did not give us a written contract or a receipt. Very unprofessional. There were also missing items from our room and the jewelry box inside our dresser drawer was moved to another drawer which proves they were snooping around in our private stuff. Don't trust these people. They will only rip you off in the end. Bye the way, the guy also sent my fiance weird text messages of guys moving and calling her a bitch. Once again very unprofessional. Whatever you do, don't hire these people. You will get robbed. read more

I contacted the company and spoke with Lou in regard to moving my daughter from Willits, CA to Sacramento. He thoroughly explained the process and the cost which put me at ease. This the second time we used Pac N Box. 1 of the 2 person crew claimed they could not fit everything in one trip. The other guy assured me it would be tight but believed it could be done. The truck was loaded in about 3 hours with small portion of items that "did not fit." The unload was quicker. I had about 10 boxes that did not get did not get in the right places but worked efficiently, hard and consistently from start to finish. read more

Five years later, we bought a house and hoped these guys would drive all the way back to Auburn to move us again. Sure enough, Lou was great on the phone and even remembered the guys that moved us the first time. He put us on the schedule with one of the two guys from our prior move. I was beyond impressed with how hard these guys work, how professional they were and all the "little things" they did to make our move so much easier. Not a nick, scratch, bump or dirt anywhere! We practically had to force them to take a break and we worked them for seven solid hours!! I was originally told movers would be at our house 8am Sunday morning to move. Then get called the night before saying they would be there at 10. 10:30 rolls around and nobody is here. Called the owner who says they will be there in 30-45 minutes they got caught up. Another hour rolls by and nothing so I call again and I'm told they are 15 minutes away. They showed up at 11:45. The movers were very nice but things that we asked to be moved were left behind and then they took an HOUR to make a 20 minute drive down the freeway. They charged us 5.25 hours of work were they were only there for 5 and including the extra 40 minutes it took them to get to our house. Then I'm told they charge double time for the travel to our new home as well which is something the owner nor the drivers ever discussed with me. I called and complained to Lou and he says they charged us an extra 15 min and he will give us 40 dollars back and told me at least it got done. I will never use this company again and I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

Horrible, stay away! I read the reviews before having them out for an estimate and had high hopes. Lou the owner came out promptly, looked around and provided me a quote to move our 3 bedrooms from Rancho Cordova to Reno. he said they did it regularly, how big their truck was, how good their guys were, said they would wrap all of the furniture, etc. I accepted their quote for a maximum of $1600. I really wanted an easy/no- hassle move and thought with us doing all of the packing and moving all of the misc./fragile items ourselves we shouldn't have any issues. Boy was I wrong! The day before the move, Lou called me in a panic that they moved someone to Reno and the construction delayed them by 3 hours and he could not afford to have that happen on our move or our cost could double. He then called me several more times to tell me the guys would be late in the a.m. and still freaking out about the traffic. The guys showed up the day of the move and I found out that they were a different crew than the day before. Gave them specific instructions, a tour etc. of what was to go. Lou stopped by and looked over things and all seemed ok except his concern about the traffic. After a few hours the guys said everything may not fit after all and it would be my problem. I ended up taking approx. 20 boxes to be sure they had room for the larger items. Because of the traffic concern I left an hour ahead of them to verify that there was NO traffic back-up. Lou then told me that they WERE able to get everything on the truck but now he was concerned that they might be overweight at the Nv. scales.(this was never mentioned) and that they might get fined or have to off load part of the truck and I would have to make arrangements to haul the items approx. 30 miles. Fortunately I was able to confirm the scales were closed so one more fire put out. The guys showed up and due to the fact Lou had underestimated the amount of items to be moved they were running behind and there might be additional charges. I offered to help them and also said there would be a sizable tip to keep things going. After unloading they presented me with a bill for $1,652 which I figured was not worth arguing about and gave them each(3) $100 tip and they bolted. As I was looking over everything they had unloaded I found they had not delivered everything and I called Lou and he told me to get a trailer and I could move the very large planters and assorted other items, he said it was "no big deal" to rent a van, ($250)drive 200 miles round trip, load, unload etc. So both Lou and the movers had lied to me, also since they overpacked the van many items were scratched or damaged. None of the furniture or mattresses were wrapped as promised. I tried disputing the charge with Wells Fargo(another fine institution) to no avail. I hope this helps others avoid their un-professionalism, lies and ineptitude. read more

The lead guy who did the work seemed coked up, however his sidekick was pretty reasonable. They were both somewhat spacey when it came to remembering any instructions about how you wanted things loaded. The presented some double hourly charge for travel time that didn't make any sense after I had already started signing waivers and such. I don't care for hidden costs and I was pretty much stuck with having these guys at this point so I had to pay. Then they proceeded to drive to my new location down the freeway at 45 mph, taking the maximum amount of time and then rounding up to the nearest 1/2 hour. B!S! The whole move took much longer than necessary and I feel as though I was overcharged. I have to move again soon and will not be calling them. Pro: nothing broke. read more

This was my first experience ever using a moving service; my boyfriend recommended Pac N Box. Two guys assisted with my short move with their semi in tow. They were quick, efficient, and were armed with all the necessary equipment (dolly, ties to keep the fire doors open, blankets, wardrobe boxes, etc.). They even took apart & put back together my bed frame. One guy was dripping sweat, but considering the three flights of stairs and summer weather, I gave him a pass and accepted that I would have to wash my couch covers and wipe down my tables. Cost was reasonable (note, I was moved only two miles away). I forget what the charge was, but it's double during drive time (my drive was only about ten or fifteen minutes). Without a doubt, I would use Pac N Box Movers again. These guys were able to do what would've taken me days in a few hours. While they may not be the most clean cut, they got the (dirty) work done with no hassle to me. I felt (almost) guilty being able to just stand there as someone else did all the heavy lifting. read more

BEWARE. Reading other reviews, I am not the only one who has had this experience.... Part way through the move, the crew said the truck was full and they would not be able to take everything. This happened despite the fact that the owner personally came to evaluate my property and belongings prior to the move. The company took no responsibility for their mistake and left me hanging. The least they could have done would be to come back the next day. Instead, they suggested I hire some day laborers outside HomeDepot to finish the move. That says it all for their responsibility and professionalism. At least the day laborers would have finished the move, and they would all have worked. Two of the Pac N Box guys worked hard, but the third one (the guy with the prison tats) spent more time on the phone with his girlfriend then he did carrying furniture.... You might as well hire day laborers instead of Pac N Box Movers. read more

I had a small move which only required a couple hours. The owner forgot to put me on his schedule so when nobody showed up I phoned and he was super apologetic. He had a couple men and a huge truck at my place in 2 hours. Now, the men who helped me were AWESOME. Reggie was a seasoned pro and was teaching the younger man the tricks of moving a big piece up and down narrow stairs. They were fast and wanted to make sure I got my full value for the 2-hour minimum so helped me rearrange and move stuff around in my new place until their time was up. If I ever have to move again this is my go-to company. Oh and btw literally HALF THE PRICE of the big name national companies. read more

Used them to move from a 3000 sq ft single story to 2400 two story. They were 15 mins late but the owner called me well in advance to inform me (not uncommon for where we moved from). Movers worked very hard only taking a 5 min break minus driving time in 5 hours of work. Nothing was damaged and they put things precisely where I indicated. Honest, on time, respectful, and very attention to details when it comes to fragile items, better pricing than most competitors, and very professional!!! There were three guys and they were very hard workers!!! Once they were done, they asked my husband to check the entire truck (thoroughly) before they left. NO items stolen or any hidden charges!!! Tips: Do most of the boxing & labeling the boxes yourself before the actual move. Send one of your family members or friend to buy pizzas & soda to feed the workers if they are working more than 4hrs.; not only that the workers don't have to drive to go get lunch and you will also save time with the move; thing will be done a lot faster!!! It's a good idea to tip the movers when they are done (they only earn min. wage); also, you'll never know when you need them again. read more

Cheapest movers in town! The only thing I was not crazy about is the 3 hour minimum as I was moving from a 1 bedroom apartment to a small house, but that appears to be an industry standard as every moving company I talked to (I called 5 total) told me the same thing. The two guys that moved my belongings were really nice and professional. All of my furniture was from IKEA and they dismantled everything AND put it back together- all for the low price of $90/hr, but with the 3 hour minimum. I figured I'd try to get the most out of my 3 hours since I knew that move would only take about 2 hours at the most. The best part was that they did NOT break, lose, scratch, or damage a single thing. They even helped me pack up some odds and ends that wouldn't fit in any box I had when they arrived at my apartment. I'd DEFINITELY use them again. These guys rocked! :D read more

I have used Lou and his crew so many times I can't remember. Only one time did I get a surly dude and that was several years ago. They go the extra mile, take furniture down, put it back up and they are generally very friendly. I have not had any really serious damage, maybe some minor scratches or dings, but hell, if I and/or my friends were doing it, it would be much worse I am sure. Plus we'd all be hurt! I have recommended these guys to many people and no one has ever regretted it. Not to mention that the prices are the most reasonable (I heard Wind Dancer charges 160.00 an hour and has a four hour minimum). Also, they work their butts off to keep it to the three hour minimum whenever possible. That gets them a better tip from me for sure. I cannot recommend them enough!!! Went with Pac N Box for our move from Sacramento to Portland a few months ago. The choice was easy when they had the quickest turn around time of all the companies I spoke to (4-5 companies) and were willing to attempt to move everything. The move went very smoothly and owner Lou waited a little longer before leaving till I was able to bring the screws to put my bed back together! The movers themselves Buck and Jack were the typical type for this work, and were on-time, friendly, professional and efficient, getting the job done an hour early. They went above and beyond the call of duty to clean off the dusty furniture that had been sitting for years. Overall a reasonably priced and friendly service that delivered as promised. My fiancée got a quote from them to move most of her 3-bedroom 2-bath house (Elk Grove) into a storage unit near my house (Gold River) and some items into my house. She was quoted $90/hour for cash ($95/hour for credit card) with a 3-hour minimum, which we thought was reasonable. We made sure all the boxes we wanted them to move were packed BEFORE they got there so as to not waste their time. We got two brothers (Eric & Buck) who were very polite, professional, and HARD WORKERS. I don't recall EVER seeing them standing around during the five hours the move required. They arrived right on time and explained ALL the costs clearly and completely BEFORE starting which we thought was reasonable and fair (hey, they drove from Elk Grove to Gold River, so it's reasonable to pay for the return trip). They suggested shrink-wrapping the fabric furniture we were placing in the storage unit since the dust can really get into the fibers, which we had them do. They said we didn't need to shrink-wrap the wooden furniture (china cabinet, curio cabinets, etc.) but we had them wrap several of them for additional protection. They also let us buy a few of their used wardrobe boxes to use as a temporary "closet" until we get more organized . . . and at a price cheaper than I could have bought them on Amazon. A used box works as well as a new box and it's cheaper! They were very careful and didn't scratch or break anything. They even moved my HEAVY treadmill out of one of my bedrooms to make room for my fiancée's bedroom set. We will DEFINITELY use them again !!! read more

When we moved from Sunnyvale, to Elk Grove we moved first into a storage unit while waiting for the house to be availble to rent. Pac N Box moved us from the storage, to the house, very good move, they were on time, careful, and did what we asked. 10 months later things changed and we moved back to Sunnyvale, and Pac N Box moved us again, from Elk Grove to Sunnyvale. Again different movers but ontime, hard workers, very careful and did exactly what we asked. Was very pleased. Not to mention moving the other direction was $600 less than moving to Elk Grove was using Bay Area based movers. read more
