I ordered an organic decaf rose-lavender oatmilk cappuccino, and it was delicious! They have certain flavors like vanilla, honey, etc. I didn't see caramel as an option, but it did appear they use more natural flavorings. The barista did a great job. Coffee is good, and have a nice courtyard to enjoy but other than that everything on yelp is wrong. They do not have food except muffins. Great place for studying or work. The ambiance and service was nice and the location of the cafe makes it feel like a secret hangout place. I went with the expectation of grabbing some food also, but there was no menu for food and when I asked they said that they only had a few pre-package bake goods. Which is not bad but other reviews I saw here about this place included food so I was a bit confused. As many of you already know, I am a huge fan of the independent mom-and-pop coffee shops. And when I took a step out of my normal coffee-drinking zone up to the Foothills in Placerville, I was absolutely impressed by the excellent Yelp reviews and photos that drew me to this place. And that is where I spent my morning, at "Totem Coffee". Located directly on Main St. in the heart of downtown Placerville, this place has been whipping out some delicious coffee beverages ever since the summer of 2015. And for many, this is much needed as this area just doesn't have many good coffee shops. I find Placerville to be an excellent city as its only a 40 minute drive east of Sacramento and literally the gateway on Highway 50 to Lake Tahoe. I had come here on the morning of Sunday 2/10/19 at around 9:30am. Winter was in full effect as there was plenty of fresh snow on the cars. Parking was fairly easy to find as many of the businesses on Main St. were not even opened yet. It was a very chilly 28° and a hot coffee drink would be the right choice to warm myself up. Before even entering the business, you are greeted with an amazing outdoor courtyard area complete with a fountain and an abundance of seating; perfect for the more comfortable days with weather permitting. Not to mention, a huge brick wall with ivy flowing up the entire wall. Definitely a nice touch. Once inside, the entire ambiance is very cozy and inviting. It's actually quite spacious as the rear of the business has plenty of ample seating throughout. It almost had that rustic, cabin feel to it and being there on a below freezing morning made it all the more cozy. Some nice perks (no pun intended) was a super fast Wi-Fi connection and even a collection of classic books (for those who wish to refrain from their technology). I had ordered a large (16 oz.) size of their hot "Vanilla Latte" (for $4.45) complete with two sides, a "Cinnamon Raisin Bagel w/melted butter" and an "Almond Poppy Seed Muffin". The latte itself was creamy, delicious, and offered a very nice dark, bitter taste to it; just the way I like it. I particularly loved their bagel; it was toasted to perfection while the melted butter provided a nicely-balanced saltiness to it. And the cinnamon/raisin blend added a decent amount of sweetness. The muffin also tasted very homemade as there was a nice amount of sliced almonds in the warm-flaky dough. In addition, they offer several breakfast staple items including a variety of toasts, salads, flatbreads, bacon/eggs, granola, and even tofu. I definitely want to make a trip back here to test out there Lavendar Latte as well as their Nitro Cold Brews. Overall, this is a coffee shop I definitely recommend checking out. The employees were doing a fantastic job while the ambiance offered a soothing and relaxed feel. My rating for "Totem Coffee" in Placerville, a unanimous five stars. read more

We have checked this place out a couple of times as the drinks are tasty. However, the customer service is lacking and staff are odd to interact with, like they have no substance or can't handle receiving new business. On top of that, they are so dumb that they badmouth their customers within earshot of other customers. Not sure how this place remains open, but whatever, we are not going back. read more

Totem coffee was a very neat place to find. You have to walk into a little alley and get a weird "Diagon Alley from Harry Potter feel." There isn't an easy menu to read, but there's espressos, americanos, lattes, etc & you add flavors, and milk/cream as you please. The Americano was dark and bold for anyone who fancies the dark and bold. I got a vanilla latte with lavender syrup and it was one of the better lavender lattes I've had. I recommend this place! My favorite touch about this place was their lavender sugar cubes. It's made of real lavender! read more

Decided to take a little trip to Placerville today to check out Totem. Super cute, tucked away from the Main Street. Walked in and the place was packed (good sign, right?). There was 5 of us so we ordered a little of everything. I ordered the lavender latte & coconutty toast. My daughter got an iced matcha latte w/ hemp milk & the marinated tofu avocado toast. The others got hot cocoa and americano toast. Since it was so packed, we decided to find a table outside on the patio. Super cute area with tons of seating. Drinks and food came rather fast considering it was so busy. My daughter absolutely loved the marinated tofu toast!!!!!! The lavender latte was super bold espresso but not very sweet and the lavender taste was lacking. The coconutty toast was delish though! How have I not reviewed yet?! Pachamama is one of my favorite coffee shops! They have delicious coffee and great service. I love that oat milk is the standard milk (no extra charge). Their cold brew is great as are their iced lattes. I typically get cold coffee, but their hot coffees are great, on a chilly day. I love to try their seasonal drinks and have a new favorite each season. Basically anything you order will be good. read more

Really great coffee but a little bit pretentious! The space is very cute but small, so it's really nice that they have the courtyard to go out in to enjoy your coffee as well. I like that they will bring out your coffee to you. The food I have tried here was good but nothing out of this world (i'm actually not sure if they're even still making food right now or not). Their baked goods are usually gluten-free and/or vegan which is not usually my cup of tea, but fits the nature of the shop so I get it. Don't expect to find Starbucks-type drinks here, my friend asked for a caramel macchiato and they looked at her like she was crazy. I do think that they have one of the best lattes I've ever had, so I usually stick to a plain latte. Their black iced coffee is also very good. Chai tea is usually pretty flavorless so I'd skip that. I like supporting a local business so I will continue to come back here, just hope they are a little more friendly next time. read more

Real coffee, real nice people working there, and a nice atmosphere whether drinking it indoors or outdoors. Would not hesitate to come here again in the future if we are in the area. Was really not impressed by totem. The area it's located and the actual shop is nice but the service, food, and coffee were not impressed at all. Probably would have been 3 or 4 stars but the service took it down. The guy who took our order didn't seem to even know the menu at the shop. All of our orders were messed up to some extent including wrong cup sizes, nothing made to go, and the actual food orders were not correct. The food also took over twenty minutes to come out. Placerville major stop for the hipster in all of us. Adorable setup, tucked away off Main St., Placerville. We happen to find this spot because its right across the historic Hangman's tree. The staff were courteous, friendly, and chill. We ordered falafels, chocolate avocado muffins, and hot cocoa. My son is a falafel snob, so I was really nervous when he order falafel. His words," Falafels are really good Dad. Don't touch it." Everything was freshly made and flavorful. My mocha was good. The roast was a little on the light side, but the drink was still executed with care and perfection. The chocolate Avocado Muffin was sketch at first. My youngest wanted that. The idea of mixing Avocado in muffin didn't appeal to me, but after our first bite, I will officially start adding avocado to all of my baking goods. The chocolate muffin was the moistest muffin I ever had. My son destroyed it in seconds. I loved the set-up. The decor had this nice retro but modern feel. Tables made of, what I believe as, reclaimed wood. There were several Native cultural art pieces. They were playing old skool swing and R&b. Cute little coffee shop in downtown Placerville. I got their regular latte (large) which the barista told me has four shots of espresso and advised on getting two since four can be too intense for some people. I agreed but upon receiving the latte I realized it wasn't strong enough for me and tasted bland. I went back in and asked for one more shot which the barista was more than happy to accommodate. Great service, good coffee! If you buy their beans, you get one drink of your choice for free. read more

Talk about ambiance and location ! Totem coffee has the most enchanting little courtyard in all of Placerville ! Located conveniently on Main Street, totem coffee has a very hip interior and a seriously serene and beautiful little courtyard. The lovely water fountain and pretty plants are surrounded by gorgeous brick walls . It's so nice to sit outside listening to the water run and admiring the flowers . If it's a bit chilly out, no problem , they have heat lamps and even light blankets to borrow ! And of course you have should have a nice warm cup of coffee in front of you too ! The totem crew knows what they are certainly doing here. They makes their syrups for their lattes in house, and offer an aromatic lavender latte as well as a sweet vanilla latte . Both are part of my regular order ! Only small complaint is that their latte art could use a bit more finesse. Sometimes the foam is not as dense as it should be. They offer light breakfast fares as well. We had the chance to try one of their specialty mornings toasts and it was enjoyable . The staff is very personable and kind . When it's busy here ... you will have to wait a bit to get your order , but it's well worthy your time to visit Totem coffee . :) read more

My friend and I stopped in here as we were exploring downtown Placerville. The atmosphere is hipster rustic with a focus on the mystic side. Definitely, a great place if you'd like to stop by and relax, do some work, or to grab a drink (yes, they have beers on tap; they switch them out every week!). I went on a Sunday during labor day weekend and there was an abundance of outdoor seating, whilst being small and quiet on the inside. The two seats at the end of the "bench area" were in reach of outlets and the cafe provides free wifi for those interested in getting their study on. I ordered the elixir, and unlike some other spiced drinks I've had, it had a very smooth finish. Generally, spice drinks tend have a grainy consistency as the spices settle to the bottom, this wasn't the case for the Elixir - definitely would recommend. HARD TO FIND, but so worth it :) To get to the place you have to go around to the back of the building, opposite of Main Str. and find a staircase down to the coffee shop. Very neat and cozy hipsterish coffee shop. Nice looking interior and very good quality coffee. Beans are rich and not over roasted (which is personally my preference). My friend got a beer, which was excellent quality as well. Personnel could be a bit more friendly and some signs to help find the place wouldn't hurt. Thats why I gave 4 :) read more

Oh how I miss this place!! I recently moved to New Mexico and I used to come to Totem at least once or twice a week!! Everything about this place is prefect! The space is quaint and cute. With indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is in a cute little courtyard with a fountain and ivy growing up rustic brick walls. Staff and owner are very friendly and create a great atmosphere!! The lavender latte made with Hemp milk is the best I have ever had and I have yet to find one that can beat it. The coconuty toast is also amazing as well as the tofu avocado toast! There Falafel's are also delicious!! Oh and not to forget the lavender iced tea!! Very few vegan options in Placerville. This came up as one. We were cold; hungry, and tired from our hike in El Dorado National forest. Really great coffee. Staff was nice and helpful. Patio is gorgeous. The food we had was simple but really delicious and made from food quality ingredients. I would definitely come back.
