Hello Sunshine! Sunshine Donuts that is. It's a little donut shop in the rural suburbs in the town of Placerville. I remember when this little building was the Italian Place restaurant. That restaurant moved down the road to a bigger location. Now it's the home for Sunshine Donuts. They have darn delicious donuts! I only tried their donuts; at least for now. They also sell bagels, breakfast sandwiches, hot coffee, and a humongous cold case of nonalcoholic drinks (milk, teas, sodas, seltzers, waters. juices, energy drinks, and coffee drinks). Lots of drink choices to quench your thirst even if donuts aren't your thing. I know my way around a donut. Having been a connoisseur from an early age, thanks dad. The donuts sat so prettily behind the glass counter. All so gorgeous without bubbling and cracked glazes. That tells me they know how to handle the various doughs and baking methods for the donuts. I bought one of each: cake, glazed and old fashion. And ate them right away. Mmm. Delicious. The vanilla cake with white frosting tasted rich and dense like a cake. Not heavy. The glazed donut was light, fluffy, with a slight all so prefect signature donut chew. Beautiful glazing, not too sweet. My favorite. The old fashion like the cake donut had a tasty cakey interior but classic crackly outside texture. The family that owns the business knows donuts! And are so welcoming, epitome of a local donut shop. Throwing out a history lesson: This area is informally called Gutenberg Corner. The Victorian house across the street was built around 1859 by the local mill owner. Then purchased in 1912 by pharmacist Gutenberg. He owned a 400+ acre ranch along with a pharmacy. Blueberry scones, so fresh and delicious! Donuts itself is not heavy, but light and airy taste. The glaze isn't overwhelming. The owners are very friendly and kind to all who walks in. I'm a new neighbor, our families new spot! read more

My son was raving about this shop so after staying the night at his house we went to grab donuts and coffee before they woke up. Donuts were great and priced well! The other items looked delicious and they were preparing more so it is all very fresh. The loss of the star comes from one of our coffee cups blew out its bottom on the way back to the house resulting in a very wet car interior and crotch. The coffee was affordable as well. We will return but I will ask that they double cup my coffee. read more

The DONUTS! The raised crumble donuts are like pillows of yummy goodness! The maple bars are perfect - sweet, yet chewy and scrumptious! And the raspberry filled powdered donuts are soft, chewy and oozing with jelly! And on top of it, all, their prices are extremely low $1.50 for a raised donut, almost unheard of! OMG, we kind of live up here and had never been here. We're on our way to do a wine club pick up in the area and decided to check out the donuts. 2 o'clock in the afternoon you would not expect the donuts to be all that great, even if they started out good. We got an apple fritter, a crumb doughnut, and a chocolate cake doughnut with coconut. All three were amazing! Pretty impressive for a late day purchase at a donut shop so I assume in the morning they're even better. read more

We Love Sunshine Donuts! They make the best donuts and in the County! Lynn is always friendly and welcoming. She carries so many varieties in her drink coolers I have a hard time deciding. Great coffee- both hot and iced and she has a big cooler full of creamers to choose from- including heavy whipping cream! Her sandwiches are delicious too. Been here 3 times over the last two weeks! This place offers a variety of donuts and other pastries. It looks like the donuts are made in house - not sure about other pastries. The donuts are fresh and tasty. Definitely a top donut shop. Also the people helping were friendly and the ship was hopping! No seating inside but there is outside and this is a nice area to grab a bite. Probably going again today. read more

Beyond grateful to have this donut shop and staff in this location. The ambiance is very clean and organized for the small space they have. The selection is wide from donuts to sandwiches, drinks and treats!! Above all, everything is fresh and delicious. I have had their Bacon, Egg n Cheese breakfast sandwich on a Croissant and on another occasion on an English muffin-- For a simple sandwich? I say brava! The sandwich was very nicely prepped-- Not too hot and not too cold. The egg is always nicely cooked and the bacon was crisped to perfection. I've also tried their chia seed yogurt cup with fresh fruit (mango). So delicious!!! Very light and healthy! And of course- their donuts. So wonderful, fresh and delicious. Everything at a reasonable price too!!! I do not understand how folks can only give four stars. I hope this establishment is here to stay. What a wonderful blessing to have them out here in such a fairly remote part of town!!! Staff is always so kind and welcoming too, so If there is ever a complaint, just reason with them! there is not a doubt in my mind they'll do their best to address and or resolve it. I wish I could say that the donuts and pastries here are terrible and that the service is not worth it, BUT then I would be fibbing. These are hands down THE best donuts in the Placerville area. My boys and I were so excited when we heard donuts were coming close to us, literally driving by and checking on the progress of them opening. Getting donuts before school on a Friday are our little treat and tradition. The glazes on them are perfectly sweet and taste fresh and real. They have so many options, the drink options are immense as well! The coffee is hot and fresh and they have so many creamer flavors to choose from! Yogurt parfaits, fresh fruit cups, and even chia puddings! The breakfast sandwiches are low in price and good, just basic meat, cheese, and egg options, but great for those wanting something a little more filling and savory. Have yet to try their sandwiches, but they cost less than a grocers deli sandwich, so looks like a great deal. read more

This is a hidden gem of a place and in a unique spot just before turning onto Bucks Bar Rd towards Somerset. Inside it's clean and has places to sit and eat as well as outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I bought donuts and they were delicious! I was surprised to see that they also serve breakfast and a variety of sandwiches as well. Sunshine donuts are not thick with oil but moist light. Which is so good with a cup of hot coffee. The breakfast sausage egg cheese muffin is good too. I like the variety of choices. This place is dangerous! If you're trying to lose weight you're in the wrong neighborhood. I don't live too far away and the place is busy. Even in the middle of the day. Just down the road from the house is this little gem! I have stopped by quite a few times in the last few months. I am not a huge donut fan but find a quality Apple fritter hard to get out of my mind! Not many places make a great Apple fritter but Sunshine Donuts makes one of the best I have had. Crispy and filled with apples. Staff has always been super nice and while the place is small it's quaint. So happy they are located close to home because the whole family enjoys this little shop. read more
