The low rider needed a smog test. I drove it around all day. If you have a car thats a bit older and that you only drive every so often, I recommend driving for at leas 80 miles before you take it in to get your smog test done. There is also a smog shop around the corner from where I live and when I went there, their machine was broken and they didn't know when it would be back up and running. So I drove over here because it was the first place I could think of. I know this but the guy in line ahead of me didn't. I heard Pacheco Smog's owner telling him this and I could tell the guy just didn't get it. My truck is older but I take really good care of it. Its my first baby after all. I came in at 4pm figuring they may not be busy and I did have to drive it all day. Pacheco Smog had a check in offer of $10 off. Heck Yeah! I checked in and talked to the owner about my Yelp addiction. The location is newly remodeled and has really great colors.*wink*wink* They were fast and I was home before 5pm. The owner is so nice and personable and is truly bringing back that family run local business. He lives locally as well and even said he recognized my truck from being around town. If you live or work or commute or just passing by anywhere near where I-680 and Highway 4 intersect, and you need a smog check, go here. They are like Smog Check meets Jiffy Lube. You can come in, wait in the waiting room with magazines, TV, coffee or water, and before you can finish watching the latest episode of a reality show on TLC, they are done! Yup, mine took about 20 minutes! And if you check in on Yelp, you save $10, so the smog check is $50. They are fast, clean, organized, courteous, and get it done. As an owner of an older car requiring a STAR certified smog station, it pays dividends to take it to a place that knows what they are doing and not trying to profit off unnecessary repairs. After my guy Melvin selling Bayside Smog, sob sob, I ended up finding Pacheco Smog through yelp. The 5 star reviews and $10 off coupon as well as the free retest (within 30 days) made this place my place to try for a second smog test. Here's something older car owners should know before they try to get their car smogged. It never hurts to use a bottle of Guaranteed to Pass in your gas take a tank BEFORE you need to smog. Then make sure you have the oil changed at least several days before testing. On test day, drive that thing like you've never driven it before. At least drive it around town and run your weekly errands and then pull into Pacheco. Don't sweat it either if you have to wait a bit either. By this time you have done all you can do to align the smog stars. My 99 Sunfire catalytic converter likes to work most of the time, but somehow it seems to not work at smog stations who can profit off repairs. At least this is what I've learned from two different years of mixed smogging experiences. Not everyone will have the same high NOx issues as my car, but I found my smog fails to be correlated to the chances of making money. So be aware when your baby needs to get tested and take it to Pacheco. They are honest, nice, do a great job and the price is right.The waiting room is very clean and comfortable. If you don't have a fellow waiting tester to chat with there's always some entertaining court TV show to watch. I HIGHLY recommend you make Pacheco Smog your place to smog test. BTW I don't know the owner and this is my first time there. I have however been almost bamboozled at other gas stations that are STAR certified. Although there are no guarantees in life, if you want to have a good experience do your part ahead of time and go to Pacheco so you know you made a great choice and did all you can do. I would give zero stars to this place if I could. The 5 stars must be bribed reviews. Twice in a row over 2 years they failed smog check for some vague error code then charge you again to come back and complete the test. This time I was suspicious so I took it to another place that said nothing was wrong and passed the smog check at one go. They said this place is most be swindling you or just giving people a hard time. Stay away from this scam. read more

We went to Pacheco Smog for our early 2000s SUV two years ago and passed no issues and thought we'd return this year. When we returned this year in early February, our vehicle passed all categories except the tech who serviced our vehicle said they could not verify our vehicle had an EGR. This seemed odd and they claimed we may have removed it from the vehicle which it had not been, and passed in all prior inspections. They referred us to a local shop (the State Ref) in Vallejo where we'd have to pay additional service fees to have them verify if the device was present or not, and subsequently have to return to Pacheco Smog and pay the retesting fee. We felt like we were being taken advantage of in this scenario. We ended up going to another shop in the area for a test and second view. Our vehicle passed no problems. While we did pay a similar amount, we ended up paying less than we would have if we had gone to the other shop and paid the retest fees. Seems like the tech that serviced our vehicle was uninformed as to what they were looking for or simply did not spend enough time looking for the device. Won't be returning. read more

I was a bit skeptical at all the five star reviews... can it be possible that an auto place actually has 5 star reviews? well, it looks like it is indeed very possible. I was immediately greeted by an incredibly warm, conversational and humble mechanic. he was so incredibly friendly that I was shocked such customer service even existed at a place like this. the shop itself is pretty generic... a waiting room with magazines, a tv with the local news playing... not a whole lot. the main attraction in the office is the gentleman that was helping me (I totally forgot to get his name, darn!). after about 15 minutes of waiting, my car was ready to go! since I moved from out of state the same gentleman helped with my understanding of what the DMV process is going to be like and what necessary documents I should bring once I get there. super, super helpful. all this for an incredibly inexpensive cost. amazing. thank you for restoring my faith in customer service and in auto shops. you guys are amazing. specifically, the gentleman with curly hair who used to live in Texas was incredibly awesome... I apologize for not getting his name. so, fellow yelpers, if you need a smog check done before that dreaded dmv appointment - do yourself a favor and go here. they're efficient, friendly and inexpensive. Super fast and friendly service and no hassle what so ever. I'd guess it was about 10 minutes from the time I pulled in until my smog check was done. Then I spent twice that much time shooting the breeze with Hirmand (the owner); talking about Yelp and other local businesses. There is a reason this place has 5 stars, it was the only place I called where they gave me an out the door price straight off the bat, everyone else offered ridiculously cheap ads then add on about 5 fees for certificate, older model, larger vehicle etc, (some places even tried adding a STAR fee as mine required a STAR station, apparently it makes no difference to the test they do, they're either a STAR station or they're not) and they came in equal cheapest of the 5 I called after all of their - *additional fees apply. I dealt with Hirmand this morning, he took time to explain a few question I had, he's polite and a pro, just old school good service, wish more businesses were run like this. Service is fairly prompt if you come on a weekday. I've been here for two cars now -- one pass one fail. The failed one they tested twice to make sure it wasn't a fluke; I definitely appreciated that. They have a small waiting room and a fairly quick workflow of paperwork etc to do your smog check. Price is pretty standard for smog. Mention the $10 off coupon! I paid $55 for a passing 98 Camry and $71 for a failed 93 Ford Ranger. $20 for a retest within a month. Make sure to bring paperwork for your car with the big barcode across the top -- anything will do, so long as it has the barcode. I guess it's the same code for all your documents. This makes the process far quicker; it's not required though. read more
