He was kind enough to explain the inns and outs of certain things throughout the room such as the record player and taking off our shoes to maintain the wellness of the space. Once we were settled in he offered us a complimentary locally sourced beverage of our choice. During our stay we genuinely enjoyed every second of it. It wasn't as big as I expected, but they had all of the slot machines I enjoy playing, so I was happy with the selection. I also appreciated how clean everything was. I constantly saw employees wiping down the machines, and the ventilation system does a good job of keeping the casino from feeling overly smoky, even though smoking is allowed. On the downside, the non-smoking room still smelled like cigarette smoke, which was disappointing. The slot machines also seemed pretty tight during my visit. I wasn't impressed with the rewards program either. New members only receive $5 in free play after signing up for a player's card and spending $10 first, which seems a bit backwards. It would be nice if the free play was available immediately as a welcome incentive. The odor was stale. Musty. The toilet wouldn't flush. It was because the water was turned off. One of the lights in the bathroom wasn't working. The light over the tub area. The only way to get proper light is to turn the heat lamp on. But it's summertime, so we'd rather have a dim bathroom over a hot bathroom. Not a great choice. The mini-fridge wouldn't close properly because the seal wasn't properly sealing the fridge. The ice tray portion was frozen (full of ice) ~ probably because the fridge wasn't sealed. It needs to be defrosted. The interior of the microwave was dirty. The phone wasn't working. The only thing nice is the room is large. However the room is outdated. 1980s. Garish. It has popcorn ceilings. I felt like I was in an 80s movie. And not a good one. By far, this hotel is among the worst hotel accommodations I can recall. And I've visited third world countries, such as Mexico and the Philippines. I booked the hotel through hotels.com and submitted my review to them as well. I believe I'm entitled to a partial refund, because the overall ratings of this hotel on hotels.com did not reflect my experience. The hotel stated that the free breakfast was very simple. A breakfast sandwich. The poor customer service, coupled with an inferior hotel room, resulted in a one star rating. This is the lowest rating I've given for anything on yelp. My typical rating is 4 to 5 stars. Rarely lower, because I choose places that have good reviews. I spoke to Chris (front desk) and he explained that the reason I was on hold for several minutes, several times, was that he has been the only person on duty all afternoon. His priority are those standing in line, over manning the phones. Which explains an even earlier call I made to the hotel, when the phone kept ringing, with no one answering. The manager and hotel owner need to be aware of these deficiencies. They should correct them. Knowledge is power. Perception is key. Communication is essential. I hope management and the hotel owner correct these deficiencies.

You pay for what you get…read more In our situation, booking 3 months in advance for the 2-day 4th of July Holiday when rates will be at a premium. Our Priceline Pre-paid price for 2 nights was $169. Pictures attached pretty much describe our dinky room. 1. Our beautiful view of the bay from the bathroom. Unfortunately the fan didn't work so our exquisite views were horribly limited. 2. A mirror over the sink designed for short people. The mirror is functional as it does reflect just fine. You just have to bend over. 3. A circa... perhaps1972 gorgeous vintage chair most likely refurbished with gorilla tape...perhaps in 1994? I now realize I could have paid a bit more and reserved that luxurious "queen room with sea view" and even gotten a bit more space to walk around the bed. Check-in went smooth. I walked in the small lobby looking for a bell but there is none. Within a minute a dude walked in and gave me an actual metal key. The dude is also the housekeeper and seemed to be out of breath. But he was a nice guy. There was some gagging and coughing from someone next door. Other than that, the main noise was from cars and trucks along highway 101. Thankfully, there were no drunken fights, screams, known drug deals or cops called during our 2-night stay. So why the 2 stars when honestly nothing really went wrong? I suppose I expected a bit more. No...not more like Days Inn or Travel Lodge quality. But a bit more like maybe consider the clientele doesn't value that vintage 1970s taped up chair? The room smell was just...creepy. Like a bad smell where no spray is going to work. Actually, that is why our room doors were open when we arrived LOL. Or maybe consider re-setting the bathroom mirror so anyone over 5'7 doesn't have to bend over? Oh yeah...when you sit on the toilet it reminds me of sitting on my chair in 1st grade. My guess is that this is a vintage toilet from the late 60s. Entertainment: You could probably take a hike up to the top of the McCullough Bridge and watch a ship pass under the bridge or maybe the Coos Bay Railroad swing span bridge that rotates 90 degrees to allow 3 trains-a-week train traffic over the bay. Grub: Hilltop House is nice, but I haven't dinned there since the 80s so take caution. Moms Kitchen is a better bet for breakfast or lunch. Be prepared to wait... If you can't wait, then I suggest the Pancake Mill.
