Worst experience I've ever had in over 18 years of having my boat serviced. Slow, incredibly rude, unprofessional, and do very poor-quality work. * When I brought my boat to them, the oil in my engine was golden brown, after their oil "change" it was black - see attached pictures. When I complained, Allen the owner, gave me the phony story that it was a special kind of high-quality oil which is dark. I had to change the oil myself afterward. * They splashed some sort of chemical on the stern of the boat which left permanent splash marks on it. * While replacing the windshield latch, the mechanic broke my windshield, which took several days to replace. * I brought the boat in on 5/3 for an annual service. and didn't get it back until 4 weeks later on 5/30. * They charged me to replace the spark plugs, but I never asked for that or approved it, nor do I think I needed it. The whole miserable story: 4/11/23 I made an appointment for 5/3/23 for the annual service of my 2004 Chaparral SSi215 and to inspect the trailer and repair the winch post and lights. I brought it in on 5/3 as scheduled. A week later on 5/10, having heard nothing, I called to check on the status. The office lady said they hadn't started on it, that they'd probably be done with it the following week. I was fine with that. Then the trailer guy, Tim, who works on the premises, but operates separately (they kept telling me as they bounced me back and forth over the next 3 weeks), called and after a lot of fast talk said he would fix the winch post and the lights for $656. A week later, on 5/17, having heard nothing, I called the office and left a message - they rarely answer the phone. Then I called Trailer Tim, who said he'd be done early the next week. On 5/18 Mechanic Tim (not the trailer guy) called to tell me I needed new riser gaskets for $280 (2 hours labor), plus parts, but couldn't tell me how much the annual service work would cost. I was skeptical of the need for riser gaskets as I'd had the entire exhaust manifold replaced in 2022, but I approved the job to be safe. He said he'd have the office call me about the price of the annual service work. They didn't call the next day (5/19), so that afternoon I called and left another message asking for an estimate and estimated time the work would be done. Half an hour later the office lady called me yelling at me that the mechanic had called me about the riser gaskets. I explained he'd told me he'd have them call me to provide an overall price and when they'd be done. She was very unpleasant and rude and told me she couldn't tell me the cost nor when they'd be done, that the trailer guy was separate, and on and on. I explained they'd told me it would be done this week, and she started yelling asking me who told me that. I told her I was disappointed that I'd had to wait over 2 weeks just to get a basic service done on my boat and they couldn't give me an estimate of cost and when the work would be done. She said she'd have the owner call me. A short while later Trailer Tim called yelling at me saying the owner had yelled at him for telling me the boat would be ready this week. He jabbered at me for a while threatening to just give the boat back to me without doing the work. I said I did not want to get involved in their problems and asked for a quality job at a fair price, within a reasonable time. On 5/22, Allen, the owner called me, saying he'd left me a message (which I did not receive), told me I needed a new shifter cable and gave a feeble apology. I told him the cable was fine a couple of weeks earlier when I'd test run the boat. So he invited me to come down and see, which I did. When I got there, the entire shifter assembly had been removed and disassembled, so I went ahead and approved the job. Then on 5/24, I got a call informing me that the mechanic had broken my windshield and it would take a few days to replace it. I was finally able to pick up my boat and trailer on 5/30, after paying them $2,633 for the boat and trailer repairs. I went home and inspected the boat, only to find dirty oil in the engine, that the side lights on the trailer had not been fixed, and damage to the finish on the stern of the boat. As I mentioned at the start, I emailed them about the oil and trailer lights, and Allen the owner called me and gave me that phony story about "special oil." I since discovered one of my batteries was bad - they should have found that. And I also needed to change the struts on the engine lid and the floor cover, which they could have pointed out, instead of up selling me on the riser gaskets and shifter cable. It was such an unpleasant and exhausting experience that I just wanted to forget it. It did motivate me to do as much of my own work as possible, and since then I changed the oil myself, replaced the batteries myself, and replaced the lid struts myself. And now finally have found the energy to revisit this nightmare and post this review. read more

Doing business with Pacific marine repair, I am out $4841 in repairs, my motor caught fire, melting all the plastic and scorching the motor cowling. The boat was towed in seven times, after Being assured it sure it was fixed and safe for Ocean fishing. Finally, wrong part was installed and had a electrical fire! I was told to pick up the boat with no further repair, because accounting to ALAN, the owner, it will cost more than he was making. The only person that would talk to you in a civil tong was the young receptionist, and all she could do was make excuses for everybody else that works there! Pacific Marine is the only place in the county i use for the boats i've owned in the past. Not only do they work on boats brought to them but they work around local marinas from Santa Barbara to Port Hueneme in dry dock and Yachts in the slip. They are good at what they do but sometimes they get stretched thin It happens to the best of us.Its completely understandable when you're good at what you do. For anybody believing some of the trolls here on yelp, take this into consideration. businesses that are good at what they do for the most part have lines, and sometimes even with an appointment, you have to realize that you are staged in the yard or the place of business to get in the work line. Alot of times that means theres a wait.Look at most mom and pop, specialty shops that are worth there salt and tell me that I'm wrong. It's very difficult, sometimes to have a quick turnaround when you're working on stuff like marine motors even in fresh water situations. This is not normal automotive power plant riding around in ideal conditions it doesn't have a caustic environment that it is living in with heavy vibration constantly pounding every component on it. Systems can be 100% In a controlled idle location, but a few miles off shore something can happen ...would you want a mechanic to charge you for a full rewire of your boat and install new motor components everytime your in the shop for a basic service just to cover themselves from a customers frustration on the fact that your boat is 10-30 years old or more ?? Of course not! Listen i can type this up and you can totally disregard what im saying but if you want some proper testimonials go speak to locals that protect our coast lines such as Ventura Harbor Patrol, Port Hueneme Patrol , Fish and Wildlife and the Reps from our local US Navy base .I know of no other boatyards that get work from those places consistently . My 70 horsepower Johnson outboard engine has been worked on by these people in the past with the prior boat owners. I called, set up an appointment a month ago. Today, I called and asked them if they could still work on my outboard engine, unattached to the boat now, as I'm getting a repower. They told me that due to my engine's size, there was no way they would work on it unattached to the boat. They again 'reminded' me that it was due to the size of the engine. Sorry, but I'm calling BS (which I didn't tell them) as it is only a medium sized outboard and mounting it for repair shouldn't be an issue. Both front office women, not quite 'ladies' - were really rude and dismissive with me while I was still being polite to them. I was actually warned by the previous boat owners that the owner/mechanic had charged them $300+ every time they'd turn the boat in for repair and the boat would STILL have engine issues. I don't post reviews very often but I definitely felt the need to do so with this rude and unprofessional company. I'd like to think that reviews would help the owners of said companies being reviewed but, I hate lying to myself. Do yourself a really big favor when driving by this company with your boat engine that needs repair- bypass them with a middle finger salute and be on your merry way to a hopefully better boat engine repair place. First off let me start by saying the ladies who answer the phone are huge b*tches. They never answer the phone and never return your voicemail. They told me I was called on Friday and I answered and hung up. I never got a call. I took my boat in over 3 weeks ago to get a couple small things done. SMALL things like fixing the trim gauge. 3 1/2 WEEKS later I got an invoice. No call no email to pickup. About 12 calls to them later I finally got a hold of someone yet again very rude and she said the boat was ready. The boat was absolutely destroyed with dirt. I've never seen the boat that dirty in my life. After I get it home and spend 2 hours cleaning it off(which I'm going to need to do again because the dirt is super soaked into the gelcoat) the motor trim gauge doesn't even work! Such a small little thing to fix and never fixed it. It was there 3 1/2 weeks for 3 1/2 HOURS of service. They gave me no price estimates whatsoever. Their time estimate was 2 1/2 weeks off. Man this place is trash! It's a shame good thing a couple more repair shops opened near them as we have options now. read more

I took my boat there for some engine repair and tune up. I. Basically asked them to go through everything and fix whatever needed. 5 months and $3800 later I get the boat back and it's not running any better than it did before. They didnt wire pump correctly. Took my boat in and had a full service. The very next time I picked up boat, it would not start. Took it back and they charged me for some electrical. Picked boat up from shop and drove all the way to Parker, AZ. Put the boat in the water and, boom, engine barely putting out power. Took boat to a shop out there and found problems during compression test with 2 cylinders. Both times I brought boat to this place, problem just turns into something worse. read more

Watch your wallet and make sure you thoroughly check EVERYTHING in your boat if you have major service. Ground wire was not connected for my trim tabs and didn't work. Allen went back to check and can you believe he found a hydraulic leak that wasn't there. Oh yeah must make money for any work even if it's not needed since he had to track down the ground wire. $300 later. Charged me $150 to instal 2 batteries that I bought. Never told me he was gonna charge me for it. He completely uses wordage to sound like it won't be to many hours ($150perhr)because you won't get an estimate out of him, then BAM! 2x what you expect. Had a guy go out with me for a test ride after both motors removed and he wanted to use a pipe wrench on my packing glands and never checked trans fluids. I motored from Ventura to CI got to slip and though I should go thru everything and no trans fluid on either dip sticks so super low, after just having one of them rebuilt at $4000. Pulled both motors to fix oil leaks, still have an oil leak. Allen tells me, put stop leak in it. My shore power in was only showing 40v something wasn't connected properly, he tells me we don't do electrical, to call one of his electricians. I stated my boat up after exhaust/transom work and it sounds like a Stock car (so loud) Allen, "well, it's a new exhaust" they never put the exhaust tips back on, so had to pull boat out and put them back on. How much to do that job? "About $600 in parts and few hours labor" $4000 later. The costs were 2x what I estimated with his wordage, again won't give estimate. Once the boats there you are at his mercy and took 6 months to finish. This whole experience made me so sick and in debt I sold the boat to pay off my card. So still haven't found a reliable, HONEST shop. Good luck boaters, if you go there he he's the one with the $100K truck. Hmmm read more

I came to Pacific Marine to have my mercruiser 5.0 serviced, some gauges and pumps fixed, and new electronics added. It took a few weeks to get the appointment, but summer is rapidly approaching, so that's understandable. The front office staff were very welcoming and all communication with their team was pleasant. They got the job done more quickly than I expected and I'm very satisfied with the quality. I was a residual customer for many years, I called "Kim" (later learning a Co-Owner) today right at opening, later called back in the afternoon only to be over talked while asking questions, she was not willing in anyway to help me purchase parts: the basics, spark plug wires and spark plugs. She told me its a 50-50 chance I would receive a call back if I can buy the parts I needed. Alan is a top notch mechanic. Knows his stuff, is a boater himself, and is fair. But the front office is terrible. I ordered some parts and when I called (after 3 weeks) to ask about my order, all I got was "Don't call us. we'll call you when the parts come in." Eventually Alan got involved and it turns out their distributor had dropped the ball. OK, fair enough, but if I had waited for the person at the front desk to call back, I'd still be waiting. Based on a couple of recommendations from friends with high-quality boats I called Pacific Marine. I left one phone message on an answering machine and the second time I called and spoke with a gal in the office and asked to have the owner call me. Neither call was returned and I was quite disappointed as I had heard that their service is excellent. While I can't speak to the quality of their work ,they could certainly use a little improvement in the customer service department. I called and asked for Alan ,after the third call he came to the phone. I told him I had a water leak from the coolant circulating pump on a Volvo Diesel and I needed to find out if there were any other coolant leaks. Alan said it shouldn't be hard to find and reasonably inexpensive. Ok! I took the boat to them and authorized an Engine Survey! They did not do a coolant pressure test to find any other coolant leaks or even do a engine compression test! I Engine Survey? A week later I had to call to see how it was going again 3rd call Alan told me I have a hole in the engine block with a piece of wood stuck in it! which actually was the secondary dipstick location and yes it was plugged with a dowel. ( easy fix get another dipstick tube and dipstick not rebuild the whole engine). Charged me $181 to do a really poor job of cleaning the bilge's Total waste of $431.00 and I don't know anymore than I did 8 days later. The motor starts and runs smooth, no blow by out of the oil filler tube and the boat is fast to get on plane WOT is 4000 RPM with no rattle or knocks it just looses coolant! Changing the circulating pump this week. read more

STAY AWAY!!!! I made an appointment in May to have a couple of simple problems fixed. They gave me an "appointment" date of June 16. I thoroughly cleaned my boat and dropped it off on the appointed day. After almost a month, I called to get a progress report and the "lady" at the counter acted like I was being a total pain in the ass just for inquiring about my boat and said that "it's summer and everybody wants their boat worked on. I asked her what was the point of making an appointment and she said that it just puts me in line to have my boat worked on. Would have been nice to know ahead of time. I would have taken it to somewhere reputable. Finally got my boat back and paid their exorbitant bill which listed among other charges $52.50 just for plugging in my battery charger. TOTAL RIP-OFFS! They did not itemize the final charge which was "clean deck" (probably cost me another $150.00 to hose off the deck of a 22 ft. boat.) They had the nerve to remark that ("BOAT WAS VERY DIRTY UPON ARRIVAL"). The boat was clean upon arrival, it just got dirty sitting in their yard for a couple months before they looked at it. I used to have my boat work done there a lot, but I will never go back! They must of changed hands or something. BEWARE!!!!! read more

If you're pretty good at boat maintenance yourself and suffered multiple stories where you've been stood up by other mechanics after taking a day off of work to wait for the expert no shows, only to need the remanufactured transmissions replaced; if you don't mind paying a little bit more per hour for talented mechanics who call if they're running late, who stay current by going to school regularly and can explain problems and their solutions clearly, then these guys are for you. A story is in order. Could have been any one of them that took our boat out a few miles passed the break had us cut both engines and then decided it was time to switch the carburetors to diagnose the problem. It was a choppy day. We were flopping back and forth. We asked if he'd like us to throw out an anchor as we realized the good engine and faulty one were now both disabled. He said, "Nah" as he troubleshooted and wrenched away. That's the end of the story. You can say we paid for reliable expert help multiple times and really haven't had any complaints. We try to do the work if we can; we do our homework for the parts we may need, troubleshoot what we can and treat the staff like their time is super precious probably so they'll do the same for us. read more

DONT take your diesel here. Spent over $6000 and my engine ran worse. I had the entire fuel system rebuilt, belts changed, replaced turbo and fluids changed. My first trip out, the serpentine belt broke. I take my boat back to the shop from Marina Del Rey just to hear a million excuses of why the belt broke. Belts were replaced and I take the boat out again. Second trip out, I smell diesel fuel. I open the hatch and see that diesel fuel is spurting out of the injectors. Again, take the boat back to the shop. Again I listen to a million excuses before it gets fixed. The next several trips I notice that the turbo isn't spooling up at the right rpms. I take it back several more times and finally give up. I find a real diesel mechanic and take my boat to him. Without telling the new mechanic what work was done at pacific marine repair, he immediately questions me about the turbo, and the fuel injection system. He said the turbo was not for the motor and also told me the fuel injection system was F'd up. Another $5000 later the damage pacific marine repair did to my motor was fixed. So, let me start by saying they DO good engine work here. Unfortunately, that's where the good part stops. I made an appointment 7 days in advance of bringing my boat down for 100 hour service and still ended up waiting 2 weeks to get my boat back. What was the point of waiting a week from when I originally called to make the appointment, if my boat was going to sit in their lot an extra 2 weeks after dropping off? This was standard service, not a major repair. Also, the woman at the front desk acts like you are twisting her arm if she has to get out of her chair to check anything for you. I picked up parts and asked for one more thing and she rolled her eyes and said, "I already exercised today you know." Wow, sorry I'm making you sell me an extra $100 in parts, lol. Lastly I called a couple days ago and asked for a part, I was told I'd receive a call back. I waited til the following day to call and said I never received a call back and was told, "well, they ARE returning calls today soooooooo." Save your money and go to a shop that respects its customers. read more
