I had a hard time deciding whether to give this place 2 or 3 stars. The pho is good. The service was friendly and quick. My hazelnut iced coffee is strong (a good thing). I have eaten at several pho places around Compton, Carson and North Long Beach/Lakewood. I have lived and worked in the area for a while so whenever I'm lazy I go to whichever pho place is closest regardless of what my favorites are. But there are a few things about this restaurant that knock its score down. First the good: The pho is tasty and the service was fast. I went at 3 p.m. on a Thursday so that may account for the fast service. The hazelnut coffee is my favorite part of the meal. Even though there is a lot of ice in the cup, the coffee is very strong (think, over-tamped espresso) so after the ice starts to melt the coffee still tastes good. Not too sweet or creamy. Just good. Even though I ordered take-out, I sat in the restaurant for a minute while the food was being prepared. The decor is nice. Simple but stylish at the same time. Less dive-y than you might expect. The counter is in a different place than most Vietnamese restaurants. It is to the side. I don't know why I noticed that but it seems most dive-y pho joints have the counter all the way in the back. Does it matter? Nope. I just noticed is all. The condiments and utensils on the tables were well organized and very clean looking. You know how sometimes the condiment bottles will have crusty condiments around the nozzle... these didn't. Some reviews mentioned their total bills creeping up when they weren't looking. I was prepared to argue my bill, but it didn't come to it. Not sure if this was because I was the only customer or because I was reading the menu when he rang me up. Either way, this time I didn't get ripped off. Now the bad: The pho I ordered (spicy, beef) is good enough but nothing I would tell others to enjoy. The broth is good, but the noodles kind of sketched me out a bit. Instead of the usual, thin rice noodles of most pho dishes; these noodles were thick. They look like spaghetti. As a gluten free eater, I get worried when something looks like it has wheat flour in it. So when I opened my container upon arriving home and saw the spaghetti noodles, I freaked. However, I smelled them and took a little taste bite. Sure enough they are just thick rice noodles. Still weird though and much harder to eat out of a bowl of broth than the thin noodles I'm used to. The other toppings that normally accompany pho, except my favorite cilantro, were in the containers but they were not appetizing in appearance. The bean sprouts were already wilted and looked beaten. They didn't have that crispiness to them anymore. I don't know if this is because all their bean sprouts look like this or because they sat in the same hot bag as the soup and noodles for the 10 minute drive home. And they gave me shredded up iceberg lettuce (i.e. crunchy water). I wasn't really sure what to do with that. I have never received crunchy water with my pho before. But even so, the iceberg was wilted as well. I tossed all of the lettuce. It was just too sketchy and weird. They included one small lemon half instead of lime, 3 thin slices of a pepper, a dash of green onion and two unlabeled sauce containers (I assume siracha and soy). The beef that was included was already cooked well and sat on the hot noodles in the hot bag for the 10 minute drive home. It had an overcooked smell to it. I tried a bite before putting it in the soup and it didn't taste rancid so I figured it was okay. I usually order the rare beef, so well done was different for me. I ordered the spicy noodle soup. While the soup was red, like it was filled with spice, it was VERY mild. It doesn't even smell spicy. I had to add a bunch of siracha to make it spicy. Overall: I am still going to finish the soup. I am eating it right now, in fact. But I doubt I would ever go back here for pho. I might however, go back for hazelnut iced coffee and to try the avocado boba drink that I missed on my first order. There is a much better pho place just a few blocks from my apartment. Even though it is a bit pricier, it is still significantly better. read more

I eat here once a week because the food is very good and the location is close to my office. I must admit that I had only eaten at a vietnamese restaurant one before making this a regular on my schedule. The Pho(vietnamese noodle soup) is really great at this place. I also eat Bun(a dish with half salad-type mix and half noodles, without broth, covered with chicken, beef, pork, and/or eggroll pieces). I tend to each either based on the weather. Pho when it is cold, Bun when it is warm weather. The egg rolls and the spring rolls are both excellent. Staff is friendly and try hard. Food comes out fast. Prices are good at about $10 for lunch with drink. Would get 5 stars if they were in a fancy space, but who cares with the quality and prices of this wonderful place. read more

Located in an industrial-theme food court, this restaurant is a good find for people looking for a quick bite during lunch. Parking is a challenge here during the lunch hour as there are a number of eateries jam-packed into a small area. But once you're in, the process from ordering to having food brought to table is pretty quick. That being said, the food is terribly bland and unmemorable. I ordered the pork and rice dish and the food was devoid of any real spice or taste. It's one of those places where you just kind of grab a server if you need anything since no one really comes to your table to check on you. Having said all that, I'm not sure there are a lot of better Vietnamese food options in the vicinity. The prices are cheap for diners on a budget, but in this case, you are getting what you pay for. read more

I come here for lunch every now and then. My favorite is number 19, which is a bun with egg rolls, grill pork and shrimp, too damn good. Their Pho are good too and in decent size. Coffee are good, but a little too small. This place is full most of the time during lunch hour so get there early. Bottom Line: I wouldn't go back. Pho: Con: watered down. they put lettuce in their pho. ive never had that. Im all for trying new things but this just didnt work especially when the lettuce gets all nasty from being overcooked in the hot broth. They charged extra to sub in egg noodles. Therefore, they came to me slightly above room temperature and not as crispy as Id like. Also, they didnt serve it with lettuce or herbs. And the weird thing is they put lettuce in my pho. I ate here years ago and recall not being too fond of their rice dishes. Went here for lunch and it was super crowded. I ordered shrimp pho. It definitely isn't the best or most flavorful in the neighborhood. In fact, it was quite bland. I will say that the noodles were perfectly soft and the right size. Review is overdue! Pho here is delicious and PERFECTLY packaged for to-go. They always include plenty of sauce and a bowl on the side which is much appreciated. Seafood pho is my favorite but Vegetable Pho with tofu is perfect for days where you want a healthier alternative. Spring Rolls are delicious! We ordered a Thai iced tea and it tasted exactly like the powdered packet Thai iced teas.... gross, overly sweet... not real Thai tea. We took one sip and asked if we could switch it out for a Vietnamese iced coffee instead. Our server tried to help us but apparently got yelled at by the Vietnamese lady manager. Short version: worst customer service, money driven owner who is rude, and does not have respect or loyalty to those that come to her establishment! Long version: I am very disappointed with my recent experience at what I thought was one of the better eateries in the area. I work in the area, less than 2 miles from Pacific Pho. Coworkers and I have eaten there weekly since they opened. The location is nice and the food is fresh. Every week we come the staff is quick to take orders for the most part. Owner, who is the woman on cash register; usually short and not really personal but we never seem to mind on our hour lunch break. Her husband, also an owner, always greets us with a smile and asks how the food is/was always nice. This Thursday was sadly our last time visiting this location! It was raining so it was busier than usual. Everyone wanted something warm on the cold day. We walk in and there is a table open for 5. There is only 3 of us and they stated that they can't seat us there because there's not 5 people. Two additional people walk in 15 minutes after us and they state that if we want to sit with the guests that just walked in we can or we can wait longer. Due to the time restriction, we sit with the random people. It's not a problem and at this point we just want to eat. The server takes our order, 1 order of spring rolls and 3 bowls of pho. He states spring rolls will take 15-20 minutes. They are worth the wait so we proceed with order. We get our pho and no spring rolls. Guests that walk in after us get their spring rolls but we aren't able to get a servers attention so we just enjoy our pho. Another 20 minutes go by and we're ready to leave. I go to the front an ask for a to-go container. The owner states she'll bring it over. Another 10 minutes go by and nothing. So I bring my soup to the front to get the to-go container and pay. I give her my card for one shrimp pho. She processes the transaction and I gather my belongings. I go to sign my receipt and she states she needs to void the transaction. I ask her why she needs to void it and she states that she forgot to ring up the $1.50 for the veggies that I ordered with the pho. At this point I am annoyed and baffled why she would even consider voiding it given our experience. 1. We sat with random people so she could get her "money's worth for that table" 2. We didn't get what we ordered 3. We are regulars that are there weekly...we order drinks, appetizers and entrees and on top of tipping well! And she has the nerve to get upset about $1.50. So I said with all due respect we are regulars and find it insulting that you would even consider charging. She started raising her voice stating "if we ordered it than we pay for it." That is absolutely correct had all those additional things not transpired. She proceeded to yell as if I offended her and her business. Other customers looked at her like she was crazy. Her husband who is a kind, respectable owner should really take charge of the business and keep her in the back. Great pho, horrible customer service. Wish her and her business well. read more

Today was a rainy day and like so many others in our industrial area, myself and a few co-workers wanted to phone in for some pho. A lot of people at my company go to this location because of it's convenience. The pho is "so-so" if you're having a craving and it's close. Those are the only things that kept us coming here for the past few years, until today. I called around 12:30pm to place an order and when I asked how many shrimp came in a regular (apparently they don't have regular with shrimp, only large) she kept correcting me that it's only a large. So, I let it go and was like "fine, but how many shrimp?" She finally answers and then I ask how many shrimp if I pay for extra? She responds that I need to call back because she's busy. I respond that I'm placing an order, I just needed to know how many shrimp before I can order. She tells me for $2 you can get 4 more shrimp. That's not my order (for a co-worker) and she was willing to pay for it, but in my opinion way OVERPRICED...but whatever. I place the order for the 2 regular shrimp pho and 1 w/ extra shrimp. I disregard the rude tone from earlier in the conversation and give her my name for pick-up. When I get off the phone, my co-workers comment that they could tell I was being rushed off the phone. I brush it off, cause really it's not a big deal and she was probably just busy and had a language barrier. She doesn't give me the total of the order so I call back to find out how much the orders are "2 regular (without extra shrimp) and 1 w/ extra shrimp". She yells at me for the second time, "WE DO NOT HAVE REGULAR SHRIMP ONLY LARGE!"....whoa buddy. I'm merely asking how much the pho without the extra shrimp are. She calms down and tell me the cost, around $10.92 and $2.00 more for the extra shrimp. By this time my co-workers are asking me questions about how she was responding to me on the phone. Again, I charge it to a miscommunication and language barrier and go to pick up our order. When I arrive the place is booming. Parking is HORRENDOUS because it's lunch time and the lot is small and serves about 7-8 other small businesses in the strip. 5 Caucasian gentlemen (you'll understand why this is important later) open the door for me to enter right behind them and I approach the counter where an older black woman is holding a menu attempting to ask the counter-woman a question. As I get closer the counter-woman excuses herself from the woman ahead of me before hearing her question and grabs a few menu's and smiles, greets and seats the gentleman that I walked in with. When she returns the woman tells the counter-woman that she had been waiting for a while to ask a quick question and she wanted to understand why she had to wait for her to seat the gentlemen. Y'all....this lady looked this woman dead in her eye and said "They were here before you and needed to be seated". My mouth dropped. The woman quietly put her menu down and walked out. I would have also, except I was ordering for two other people. I informed the counter-woman that my order was called in and I asked if she was the person who took my order over the phone. She said yes and I confirmed for her that she was being very rude and how I thought it was just over the phone, but it is just how she is. She proceeds to tell me that she was in a hurry to get me off of the phone because she is short staffed and it was very busy inside of the restaurant when I called. Everything I asked is in the menu and I should have looked there. She said that I interrupted her helping people inside by asking how many shrimp are in the pho but if it were around 2pm then she could sit with me to go over the menu. The guys mopping co-signed that it was busy and they didn't have time to assist each customer because they had to get to the next one. I said that's fine, but I would no longer would be coming back based on the service to which she replied she wish she had an office job like me so that she could take her time like I was. I said that I was in no position to tell her how to run her business but sometimes you build customer loyalty through quality and not quantity. I left it at that. There is a restaurant right around the corner, not even a block away Pho1945 & Poke Bowl that has the same, if not better qualify of pho. They also have great Poke and Ban Mi. There's plenty of parking and they have 100% better service. My whole department has decided they will no longer receive our business and when we have guests, they'll be directed to Pho1945 & Poke Bowl. If our business isn't valued we'll just take it and our referrals to a business that will. read more

Just to lay everything down... I'm Viet, and I've been to a billion pho places... and I personally think this is the best Pho place I've been too! (Okay maybe Pho 57 is comparable... but I think PN is better.) Things I like about it: 1. The soup base is SO tasty (my mom says that the owner lady says she puts no MSG in it... if that's true, I WANT TO KNOW HER SECRET.) 2. They actually skim the top very well... Greasy pho does taste good too but too much is bad... the grease/fat always gives you that weird aftertaste long after you've finished eating... here the fat is almost gone. (And it doesn't detract from the taste.) 3. Did I mention the soup base? Lol. SO goood. 4. The noodles were normal... not anything particularly special, but they weren't bad. It's okay though as the soup + the meat are the stars. 5. They don't give you tough or fatty meat, i.e. cheap, like some places do (I know there are a lot of other places who don't do that too... but still, it's a plus.) 6. If you see my review on Noodle Planet... you'll know PN has fresh basil. Yay! - I must warn though that 1 of my Filipino friends didn't like it. I dunno why. I work across the street from the restaurant. There's really no other place to eat that doesn't require a 10-15min drive through the pothole infested streets of Compton. So Pacific Noodle will suffice. The pho is seriously 2-star. It's in their broth. Their vermicelli are better. I would recommend their sandwiches, but they stop serving them at 11:30 am. WTF? Okay.... Several years on, now, and this place only seems better than before. This is the best pho in Los Angeles. Period. (According to me). According to the owners, their product (meaning the PHO) is not particulalry traditional. That doesn't mean that it's some kind of bizarre take on the dish, either. Having sampled pho far and wide, I can proclaim that this place absolutely serves the best pho anywhere (again, according to me). So much is soooooo right. Perfect savory to sweet ratio. Almost never a tough piece of meat or noodle. Heeping amounts of condiments. Perfectly skimmed broth. I don't know of another place that serves their product (phroduct) with as much consistency. I think the more "authentic" joints that I've tried in Westminster, Stanton and Garden Grove put too much fish sauce in the broth and use meat that is too fatty and chewy. Not to say that this is bad, but Pac Pho seems to avert this and finds my taste exactly. it is a very clean and delicious broth, for sure. Perfect onion balance, which seems to be extremely important. It really is a "can't go wrong" experience. Sure, they get busy (especially on cold and/or rainy days) and you may have to wait 10 minutes for a table. Big deal. It is always worth the wait. As far as the comments about service, I have only ever had exemplary customer service. I've never been overcharged and the food always comes with lightning speed. I am a Yelper who always tries to give a restaurant a few tries before nailing it with a one star rating and I guess that when I see someone dumping on a place with that same, one star rating, I get a little perturbed. Really? The fricking spring rolls weren't the frincking best you've ever had? Oh, you should rate one star for that! Really? The fricking wait for a table was more than 5 minutes? One fricking star! I'm in Hub City five days a week due to the jobby-job and, lemme tell ya - Compton ain't the spot for fine or yummy dining. I love pho. In particular, I am married to a place in Long Beach on Anaheim and Redondo...but I digress. Pacific Noodle House is my mistress. She knows I'm double dipping but she doesn't mind. She opens her doors to me each and every time I creep in. She caters to me and knows what Momma needs. As a regular of this restaurant over the last two years, I have to admit that their food is very good, however, I'm upset at the fact that they perform in unscrupulous business practices. Pacific Noodle House probably has the best vermicelli (bun) my taste buds can remember. I order 15A-vermicelli with grilled pork half the time because the pork is tender, and their fish sauce tastes authentic. The other half the time, I get the combination Pho, which is as good as the ones I've had in Westminster, just costs a little more. There's a minimum credit card purchase ($10 I think). If you decide to dine in during lunch break, avoid rush hour (noon-1) because this place could get as busy as the kogi truck. read more

And if you order take-out, it will take about 25-30 minutes to get your food. But DAMN....the broth is too good. It's a light flavorable broth that is enhanced by the various accouterments (your choice of thin slices of rib eye steak, or chicken, cubes of tofu, a small school of shrimp or the fish) Be careful when adding jalapeno because the soup will really fluctuate the heat of the pepper in every spoonsful. I really enjoyed the Pho. Broth is yummy no trace of fat which I've encountered at other places. I had the beef combination quite yummy even though it didn't have the extra bits of tripe and tendon which I enjoy. Meat portions were good size. I went 2 days in a row and it didn't disappoint. I ate here for the 1st time about 15 years ago when I was a student at CSU Dominguez Hills, which is down the street on Victoria. I had never had pho before in my life. I didn't really know if there was a special way to eat it but the lady was super nice and told me what to add to it. It is definitely some of the best pho I've ever had! The 20.b veggie pho and veggie spring rolls is what I order all the time. Both actually have veggie ham and other veggie meats. There's only 2 reasons in my mind why we were charged $20.03 pre-tip for a regular sized spicy noodle soup ($6.75), a tofu vermicelli bowl ($7.50) and 2 waters (free). Do the math and you'll see why I wrote this update. 1) You are incompetent and charged us the wrong orders even though we told you what table we sat at. 2) You are underhanded and like to overcharge people who trust you. I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume there was some unfortunate (for me) mistake. It's part my responsibility to check what I'm being charged. My friend from work and I dine at Pacific Noodle House for lunch at least once a week, as it is close by, reasonably priced, and always delicious. As others have mentioned, it is often packed at lunchtime, and that's with good reason. The whole staff is friendly and extremely attentive, and the service is always impeccable. These guys really know how to hustle, and so does the kitchen. From the time we place our order, our food typically hits the table in less than two minutes. On cold days I will usually order the Pho (piping hot noodle soup), which even for the regular-sized option comes in a huge bowl. I can barely finish it as it is, so I can't imagine why there is an XL-size option. I've tried different versions of it; the chicken, the beef, the fish, and they are all delicious. The Pho is served with a generous plateful of assorted extras to add to your soup to customize the flavor to your liking. There are slices of Jalapeño peppers, sprigs of Thai basil, wedges of lime and heaps of bean sprouts to choose from. To add even more flavor, every table in the restaurant also comes equipped with a bottle each of soy sauce, plum sauce and Sriracha hot chili sauce. With all of these fine tools at your disposal you can make the soup as spicy, as salty or as sweet as your heart desires. On warm days I will usually have the Bún (rice vermicelli noodles) which come in a big bowl with shredded lettuce and julienned cucumber, thin slices of grilled pork, shrimp and chopped up egg rolls. This is served with a little ramekin of sweetened fish sauce to pour over it or use for dipping. I like to pour it over everything in the bowl and then mix it all up. The same sauce is served as a dipping sauce when you just have an order of egg rolls. The sauce is sweet and delicious and goes with everything perfectly, from the noodles to the pork to the lettuce and cucumber to the egg rolls. You would never think it was fish sauce, but we asked the waiter one time and that's what he told us it was. I have to give special mention to the egg rolls here, because I have eaten a lot of egg rolls in my lifetime and these are unequivocally the best egg rolls I have ever had, anywhere. Consistently fried to perfection, they are light, crispy and flaky, and never greasy. I visited here few months ago and I've come to realize the taste of the noodle was not what it used to be. I'm not sure if this taste change is permanent or just a temporary. Maybe the main cook was sick that particular day I visited or maybe he/she quit this restaurant? I can only guess but the tasted really suck. read more

It's pretty good. I've had better. They were really busy on a Friday during lunch time, but still were service quickly. Waiters were friendly. They did forget to bring us extra jalapenos after we asked twice, but no biggie.. they were busy, we understood. read more
