I love coming here! Some pho places simply don't get the broth right, where it may taste dull and needs lime to be bearable. 100% not the case with Saigon Eatery. Broth is clean, yet has a lot of depth and soul to its flavor profile. True food enthusiasts can tell that this place takes their craft seriously. It's the kind of pho that really doesn't need Hoisin Sauce or Sriracha, but of course those staples are available to use at each table. Don't sleep on the other items of the menu!! The pork bahn mi, Saigon Fries, egg rolls - everything is spectacular. Their Vietnamese coffee is slept on as well. That beverage, is so delicious and can wake anyone up from the dead. The restaurant itself is spacious and has a couple of TVs to the right of the front counter. I'm kind of bummed I typically have to work during their Happy Hour (15% off your order from 3-5PM). I do however, know that if you call ahead - you can still get HH pricing even if you do pickup vs. dining in. Lastly, I can see how service is a hit or miss to other visitors. Saigon Eatery is what I would call a fast-casual style Vietnamese restaurant! Instead of a large bustling restaurant, there are only maybe about 10 or so tables inside. You order your food at the counter and take your seat, and the server/staff brings it out to you when it is ready. I went here on my lunch break, having a craving for pho and limited time, so I ordered their Saigon Pho, which I believe is their equivalent to a pho dac biet at other restaruants. Within maybe 5-10 minutes, I got my pho, and it was hot and tasty! Their broth is a little less rich than some other places that i have tried, but their pho is definitely cheaper than other socal locations. I think that their meat could be a little bit better, as I didn't like one of the meats that they included in their saigon pho, so next time I would just not order that meat. Came here with after seeing so many great reviews. This review is based on our first impressions. The restaurant is located in an L-shaped strip shopping center with a common parking lot. We dined for dinner on a Saturday evening. We ordered two varieties of Pho which were brought to our table in large bowls. At first glance it looked like a pretty big meal. But those hopes were dashed when we realized the bowls contained a whole lot of noodles and broth and very little meat. I mean a really little portion of meat. The pho lacked flavor and needed a good dose of the chili that was at the table. Everything considered we got two bowels of noodles and a little meat. The spring rolls were okay. They looked good but were a bit overcooked. The cashier was very nice. He told us they were out of pork chops (that my guest wanted to order). Other than that he was polite and brought us our food. I'd like to say I'll go try this place again. After all it was clean and friendly. But the seating on cold metal chairs was uncomfortable and, as I said, the food totally failed to impress. This is the first of its kind--almost like a fast casual Vietnamese eatery. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you on a tray. Once you're done, you bus your own table. I ordered the oxtail pho, the broth had a nice flavor they give you a lot of broth and noodles. I've never tried oxtail pho before and I love oxtail so I figured this should be a good choice. The oxtail itself had a lot of fat and the meat was flavorless. Definitely wouldn't order it again. When combined with the soup noodles hoisin sauce, and some Sriracha it's pretty decent. I was hoping there would be flavor. It kind of taste like they boiled it. Wasn't a big fan at all. The meat was tender, so that was a plus. I ordered their egg rolls. Those were nice and crunchy. Pretty good flavor. Side note: my dipping sauce had a long curly hair in it so whoever works in the back might want to put on a hairnet. I understand the mistakes happen though. I also ordered their garlic noodles. These were fresh and flavorful. Had a nice garlicy taste I added shrimp those were delicious. This was my favorite item. I also ordered their salad. This is our go to for Pho now. We normally order take out as it's easier to eat this at home with little ones. They give lots of noodles and the soup is great. I always get the ox tail pho and I can split it between two meals. The spring rolls are always excellent and thats usually our order: Pho and spring rolls. Very good pho! I got the shrimp pho (it still has beef broth) and it was exactly what I was looking for. The shrimp were very fresh tasting and broth was tasty! I wouldn't recommend the garlic noodles as it was lacking the flavor I'm used to in this dish. Shrimp spring rolls and peanut sauce was very tasty! Giving this pho restaurant 3 stars. The pho isn't consistently high quality--sometimes it's bland, sometimes extremely salty, with the soup feeling heavy from too much seasoning. It would be better if they emphasized the natural flavors of the broth and meat rather than relying so heavily on added seasoning. For $15+ tax per bowl, you get a lot of noodles, some meat, and a few veggies, which doesn't feel worth the price. They could offer more meat or a bigger bowl rather than filling it mostly with noodles. Other areas need attention too. The restroom could be cleaned more consistently and updated, the chairs are uncomfortable, and the spring rolls should come with mint and be longer. The egg rolls (3) with a piece of lettuce is overpriced!!! Many things on the menu are overpriced. You can't build long term customers that way. Table sauces are often messy, with leftover sauce left on tops and openings. Staffing seems limited as well. During busy times, tables aren't cleaned promptly and there's often no one to clear space for new customers, making the experience feel crowded and unorganized. UPDATE since review: They were out of ube so I was just given a plain coffee which my friend said tasted bad (she was also handed something different than what she ordered and also wasn't told beforehand). When I saw the plain coffee right away I said I couldn't drink that and asked if it's possible to get the matcha milk tea instead which she said yes to. However when it came out it was again different than what was said--there was no matcha and it was just plain tea. I understand that it was a freebie but still disappointing that we weren't told about the change beforehand as we were expecting something else. In hindsight I would recommend getting the free appetizer instead, though I was really looking forward to reviewing the drinks here and the drink menu looked better than it really was. Surprised the service took a turn for the worse after we wrote the review and negated our opinion prior to it. We were practically ignored for a while after we showed that the review was done. It was very weird and wouldn't go back now to be honest. PREVIOUS: The oxtail soup here is delicious. My friend got the garlic noodles which was also good. Service was quick and friendly--our food came out pretty fast. They were also great with discussing food allergies which is much appreciated and the biggest reason for the five stars! Came because a friend recommended this place. It's a pretty small restaurant and doesn't have an overwhelming menu. We ordered on the kiosk, my only complaint is you can't make any notes or changes to your order on that so you have to grab someone to let them know. It took about 10 minutes for our food to be ready. I order the filet mignon pho and my husband ordered the garlic noodles with beef. I'd give the pho 8.5/10. The price is great for the portion. The meat was perfect and the flavor tasted great. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the garlic noodles. They came out lacking color and didn't look appetizing. Cozy spot with delicious pho and friendly service! I've been to Saigon Eatery twice now (once for a weekend lunch and once on a weekday evening) and both times were a great experience. It's a relaxed, casual spot that's perfect for dining solo or with a small group. During my most recent visit, I got the "Pick 2" Pho which was only $12 and lets you choose two meats from brisket, meatball, ribeye steak, and boneless short rib. I went with the brisket and ribeye, and it was delicious! The broth was nice and hot and it came out pretty quickly. They gave a generous portion of bean sprouts and lime on the side and they brought the chopsticks, spoon, and napkins on the tray as well. They also have Sriracha and other sauces on the tables, and a self-serve water station with cups. The first time I visited, I ordered through a kiosk at the front, but the second time the kiosk wasn't working so I ordered at the counter. The person taking my order was super friendly, and the person who brought out the food was just as kind. Such a great spot for Vietnamese food! My first choice was to go to have some pho at Fresh Daily Pho and Grill but they were closed due to a maintenance problem they had. So I yelp the next closest pho and it was Saigon Eatery. I had the chicken pho. Broth was ok, chicken was a bit tough. They gave you a huge amount of noodles, but not enough broth or chicken. I then also had the egg roll. Not impressed. It was wrapped I wonton, not like the tradition rice paper wrapped egg roll one. The traditional Vietnamese eggroll are wrapped in rice paper to make it fluffy and crispy. The bill came out to be about $27 with a can of Sprite. I think it's a bit overpriced for what I paid for a bunch of noodles with little broth, few small pieces of chicken and three small egg roll. It was my first time eating here and it will be my last. Not impressed. read more
