Drove out of my way to get to this place bc I saw #latryguy rave about it on tik tok, and he was right. I paid $36 and got about 5 pounds of very tasty food. All entrees were piping hot as well. We had fried rice, chow mein, and beef and broccoli. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and crisp the broccoli was. My kid lost his mind over the chow mein, he said that it was MUCH better then panda, and my kid freaking loves panda. Loads of great food for a great price. Staff is super friendly too. read more

China Gate The Mongolian beef was fresh, hot, and straight out of the wok -- full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The fried rice was tasty and well-seasoned, and that crispy chip (not sure what it's made of) was delicious! I really enjoyed the egg rolls there. They have a combo egg roll with three types of meat, chicken, beef, and shrimp. It is out of this world. I also tried their compound chicken. Very delicious. I plan to go back and try the combination rice that seems to be a favor there a couple of people ordering it on next trip I will try to combination rice. Also, they cook everything Fresh that I loved and I only had to wait maybe 20 minutes for my order on the day that I went so it is was well worth the wait. If you have not have the egg rolls here you have no idea of what it is that you're missing. They are paced with SHRIMP, CHICKEN, and GROUND BEEF. As long as the palm of my hand. So after watching latryguy review came to see what the hype was, and well I will stick with my regular place. So me and my husband pulled up here today and tried it. The only thing I really like was their combination egg roll and it was just ok. we also ordered their combination fried rice, won't do that again. It really had no flavor to me. We also tried their combination egg foo young not a good choice either. Don't know if it was just me but everything had an after taste to it. We all know that it is made to order but most of the main components are already cooked and maybe that's the refrigerator after taste I am tasting. I don't know the food was not really worth me coming back for. The service was great I will give them that. I first ordered their fried shrimp egg foo young, but when we seen that they had a combination, I asked if we could change it and it wasn't a problem and the prices were the same so there was no extra charge. The staff was friendly and welcoming. As for ambiance what do you expect for their location. I get why there is a bench in between the register and the guest. I get why there are bars on the inside. So for the area it is what is. Hopefully they will remodel since the area is remodeling. read more

Combination fried rice js the best I get it with no beets ! I love the fact this place has great prices . I usually do phone order so my food can be ready when I arrive if not the wait consists of ten to fifteen minutes. Also they have lunch specials until 4pm Only negative is the area , some homeless hang around the parking lot or people trying to sell things or people asking for change . read more

I've only had the chicken fried rice and the veggie rice I always get extra green onions and when I tell you it's GOOD believe ME make you want slap your Mama good!! I live in Los Angeles but I drive to Compton simply for the rice! I call them when I'm half way there so they by the time I get there its good an pipping hot!! Combination rice and combination egg rolls were very tasty. I added gravy to the rice which was not needed for me it made it a little to salty for me but there was more than enough to mix it in good. The best part about it for me is the food came out piping hot. Won me over with that alone. Nice portions also. Will definitely become a lunch spot for me. read more

Let me tell you about China Gate in Compton. New GPS will call this place L.A. but locals still know it's Compton . The food is always on point. Been coming here for 20 plus years. I've been coming here since little girl and the egg fu young was always Good! I ordered today and the egg was cold in the middle, over cooked, and hard. I was so disappointed. Gravy is delicious as usual. Fried rice was good. The chow mein was over cooked noodles were mushy. Idk what happen today but it did not taste the same as before. Other than that customer service is good and they answer the phone quick. Food is always ready in 15 mins or less. I hope only today was a bad batch because I really Do love this place! Please still go and try it!! read more

Don't answer a phone's calls during lunch time, people dont stand in line to order. People just tell you they are behind someone, then you reply to them. And take it so personal and you start arguing. The owner needs to place a sign to stand in line. read more

OUTSTANDING FOOD! After watching the LATRYGUY on YouTube we decided to try out China Gate and I agree, they are good. The combination egg roll was out of this world. It was huge and tasty, yes it was greasy but I almost did cartwheels at the first bite. We also tried the combination fried rice and shrimp fried rice. Both OUTSTANDING! They give you a lot of food and service was good. I wish they had a bigger area to sit comfortably. I cannot wait to go back. read more

This is my OG Chinese food spot. A little hole in the wall place. But I love me some China gate. I do not eat Chinese food often anymore but when I do, this place is my go too! They are always consistent. The Combination egg rolls are so good! They cost about three dollars each. It's basically an appetizer you can eat a few of these and be full. The food is always fresh made to order. I'm usually a little annoyed that you have to buy one item plates. Unfortunately, you can only get separate items at lunchtime. The highlights of the night were the celery root blini with crème fraîche and Ossetra caviar, the trout tartare, the duck sausage, and the grilled short ribs. And a special shoutout to the fried boneless chicken leg -- it was goddamn delicious! The wine list is exciting. It has some hard-to-find aged bottles. We scored a bottle of 2007 François Cotat Sancerre. Cotat is one of the most iconic Sancerre producers, and because his wines are built to age, finding a 2007 vintage on the menu here was a massive treat. While we didn't dive into the proper cocktail menu, my partner ordered the non-alcoholic Hojicha Orange Milk Punch, which was phenomenal, and judging by how beautiful the drinks at neighboring tables looked, I'd assume their cocktail program is strong. Service was stellar. Lisa, who helped us navigate the wine list, was lovely! She was incredibly generous, offering us a few complimentary pours of other wines to taste. Will definitely revisit to try other menu items and their cocktails!
