Family business (father and son) that's been around for about 50 years (father just turned 90 and is still running the front office, doing the tire and parts ordering, etc; son supervises the shop and still does some of the work.) They employ and train young local people, and every time I've needed their shop for anything - tires, brakes, electrical - they've been stellar. (Once when it turned out that they'd have to keep my truck for a day or two, the father loaned me his!) Their prices are fair, and they won't try to upsell you on tires or other things. Took my car here to have two tires put on, ended up getting a call saying they couldn't do it cause they stripped 1 lug bolt, and "couldn't get the rest off without having the car there all day long, and would be multiple hours worth of labor" on top of them not even knowing when they could reschedule me. Called Cruz Tire in south beach got me in that day and didn't charge me a cent for labor/got all of the lug bolts off 0 hassle, as well as not stripping any of the other lug bolts. read more

Called 4 times to schedule oil change for RV and each time they said they would call back but never called.

Would give them zero stars if I could. Took my vehicle in because I thought I needed a new battery , no " mechanic" said it needed accelerator sensor and 1 other sensor and had to order parts , then " mechanic said it wasn't that it needed a valve. Called me and said i could drive my vehicle until the following Tuesday , guess what got in my car and it wouldn't accelerate good thing this happened in my driveway and not at some store parking lot.Another diagnostic so that makes 3 different diagnostics and being stranded without a vehicle for over 2 weeks. Now where their "mechanic" supposedly fixed the vehicle it leaks water onto my floorboards. I took it in and they said youll have to leave it with us so we can find the problem. IT NEVER LEAKED WATER BEFORE . I said im not walking in thisxrain to work and have you keep my vehicle for 2 weeks like before. And the owner Mark ,useless, seems to think everyone can afford a newer vehicle. So unless you like shoddy workmanship , there's much better mechanics in Newport, I was just unfortunate to pick Pacific Tire, never again. read more

Excellent mechanics and big efficient shop. The owners are terrific guys. My truck had a broken exhaust manifold stud that was difficult to remove. Several shops declined to remove the manifold and drill out the stud. It was no problem for these guys and they did a flawless job, a day earlier than scheduled. The first time I used them last year they were really fair with their pricing. This time they charged over $50 for an oil change that I can get for $30 everywhere else and $120 just to swap out my winter tires. Then although I instructed them twice to recycle my old tires, I had to take the tires back today for recycling and pay another fee because they refused to follow my instructions. They had written it down on the ticket to recycle the tires when I dropped the car off but when my husband went to pick up the car I guess they felt they had to double check with him whether his silly wife was allowed to recycle her own bald winter tires. So the total for some pretty light maintenance was about $180. Never again. read more

I dropped in for a tire rotation, and to have my brakes checked (because they were grinding). These guys got me right in, looked at my brakes, which they told me were fine, just a little bit dirty, and didn't charge me a penny for the rotation! Went in over Christmas when money was tight and they misdiagnosed my vehicle. I spent the money and didn't get it fixed and on top of that they threw off the alignment on my car. I went back to have it addressed and they stated they took it for a test drive and acknowledged it didn't sound fixed that it was another problem. I had to go back in to make another appointment. Then they said it would be another several hundred dollars, even though they acknowledged it wasn't fixed right the first time and diagnosed another supposed issue. They didn't refund my money and I didn't have a fixed car. I took it to another shop and paid for a diagnosis. It wasn't even close to what they diagnosed the first or second time. Our car broke down on a holiday weekend with a dead fuel pump. Someone stopped on the highway and gave us a ride into town. The nice people recommended that we have our car towed to Pacific Tire and Brake for repair. Monday was Labor Day so Tuesday morning we were there at 7:30 AM when Pacific Tire and Brake opened. The friendly man opening the shop said that they could probably get our car repaired the same day. He offered to lend us a loaner car while ours was getting repaired, a Cadillac. I don't recall being offered a loaner car by any other repair shop in 20 years. "Most of the crew comes in around 9 AM," he said, "so we'll start on yor car then." We went off to get breakfast and see the tourist sights while they worked. They phoned us about 9:30 and gave us a firm estimate for the repair, about what we expected to pay. Sometime after lunch we drove past and saw our car up on a hoist with a couple of mechanics working away on it's underneath. Their work was done about 3:30 PM so we got a call and went to get our car. The bill was only what had been estimated. I found out from talking to the old guy at their desk that they have to own a special $1,800 polution abatement machine for draining a fuel tank in order to work on fuel pumps in Oregon. Pacific Tire and Brake has a name that doesn't begin to describe their full service car and RV repair shop. It apparently began as a tire shop decades ago but has expanded and now is full service repair. After our good experience I can understand why the local gentleman recommended them to us when we were stranded with a broken down car. read more

I first came to Dougs shop 8 years ago when visiting the coast and our car was leaking power steering fluid. He took us right in because we were traveling. He fixed it for $60 and got us back on the road. The next year our fuel filter clogged while we were passing thru Newport and again, I hour labor and a new filter and we were on our way. Both times they could have "ripped" us off but even with CA plates, they were honest. Since then I have taken my Jeep in and they found a easy fixed problem that the dealer was a "expensive problem" and Mike found a wiring harness was chewed thru by mice. ***Pacific Tire is on the NORTHWEST CORNER OF 10TH AND HWY 101*** These guys are AWESOME! On a return trip from Portland I started hearing a horrible scraping sound every time I pressed on the brakes and I realized I was in trouble. I am in the process of moving and needed to drive BACK to Portland the following day to sign a lease. I brought my car in around noon after a very bad experience at Les Schwaab where I waited several hours only to be told that they couldn't work on it (because of "spacers") and they didn't even look at it (I should note that they have worked on it in the past). The guys at Pacific Tire treated me great! Everyone there was extremely personable, respectful and as a bonus, they were really FUNNY. And even though I was bad-mouthing Les Schwaab left and right, they remained respectful toward their competition and didn't get roped in to my (legitimate) rant despite how hard I tried. Plus, they had red vines. RED VINES! Turned out that I needed new brakes AND rotors on both of my front tires. They had it all fixed and ready to go at a reasonable price by 5PM that same day! Plus, they made me laugh, provided free red vines and when I commented that I liked a sign they had in the window about equality and women's rights, they gave me one, because they had extra, because, as I said before, they are AWESOME! The only negative is that they don't have a sign on the outside of their building (that I noticed), and the picture looks different from the actual shop (it must have been painted or something since that picture was taken). Pacific Tire is on the NORTHWEST corner of 10th and highway 101. The picture on Yelp actually looks more like another shop on the other side of the highway called "Ocean Tire." DON'T GET THEM MIXED UP WITH OCEAN TIRE! Ocean Tire is at 11th and Hwy 101 on the EAST (opposite) side of the highway. BEWARE: Ocean Tire will pretend to be Pacific Tire if you don't know what you're looking for. I know this because it happened to ME a few years ago. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the only negative review on Yelp is actually for Ocean Tire and not Pacific Tire. I also suspect that Ocean Tire painted their building to look like Pacific Tire so they could steal their business. This is just a theory (most likely stemming from the fact that it happened to me and I feel stupid about it), and may or may not have any basis in reality. I suggest you GO TO PACIFIC TIRE on the NORTHWEST CORNER OF 10TH AND HWY 101 the next time you need ANY work on your car. I'm just sorry I didn't know about them before I decided to move to Portland. You know what? I'm totally willing to drive from Portland to Newport the next time my car needs work. That's how great they were. read more

I got the total run-around from these guys trying to align my mom's Saab. I told them to contact me telling me what they could do about a severe negative camber in the rear, which they didn't. They just told me my vehicle was ready, but that they did nothing about the actual problem. On top of this they wanted me to purchase an after market control arm system for nearly $500 when, (as the Saab mechanic at the dealer in Portland informed me,) a couple of $20 shims would do the trick. (Which Pacific Tire refused to do.) Beware!! read more

Passing through on our way home from visiting California, thought a drive up the coast would be best considering the snowstorm that we were having. Our car decided to have a catastrophic brake failure (pedal to the floor, brake fluid all over right front tire) and leave us stranded in Newport. We had to be at work by 5pm the next day 3 hours away. We got a room and prayed this place could help us when they opened at 7:30am. There were a lot of cars in and around the shop so I was worried they wouldn't be able to get us in,furthermore worried that parts were needed that weren't readily available on the coast. I was at their door as soon as they opened and the manager was kind, and assured me he would have it checked out by the time his crew arrived at 9am. He too wasn't sure if he was able to get parts if it was more than a bad brake line, which he said they can make themselves. Fingers crossed I walked back to the room to await the news. As promised he calls me back before 9am. Bad news, everything is wrong, hoses, pads, the works. My car is old and I don't doubt the news a bit. Good news! He can get the parts locally today! He tells me he can't promise he will be able to have it ready by 2pm when I need it, but will try. They call me at noon and I'm thinking, oh no something else is wrong and the quote has gone up,but no he's calling to tell me my car is ready! He said he "put two guys on it", I was elated. These guys could have told me I was out of luck, but they actually helped me knowing I was needing some good luck. Thanks again guys!! read more

We were passing through town in a motorhome and knew we had a leak in the rear wheel seal. They took us in the same day and quoted us $850 because they thought we needed new pads and rooters on both sides. After closer inspection, it wasn't as bad as they first thought but found the other rear seal was also starting to leak. They fixed both leaks for a total cost of $350. We were driving the Oregon coast and were checking into a hotel when our tire indicator light came on - Oh no! Sure enough, there was a nail in the tire. This shop was recommended to us by the hotel front desk. Due to the construction work on the front of their building we drove right by it the first time. But are we glad to have found it on a second look! Not only did we have a nail in one tire, but as they were preparing to work on it, we discovered a nail in a second tire. Got both tires patched in under one hour and were back on the road quickly. No price gouging here - just honest good work at a reasonable price in a pretty quick amount of time. I like the heck out of marks dad rollie and mark,l justin , but every problem ive had has been a biggie as far as wallet goes so i am undecided as to if i was givin a reasonable quote and repair cost+ i was told my ball joint , that i could let it go a bit longer and i waited two weeks and ended up having to replace another part for waiting too long?? hmm .i got my self in hawk on cards but repairs were made. charged too much for oil. just seems like if bill is over 500 that more concern to economy should be given we are not rich .. if part is 30 and ... idk maybe ive just had that luck to have spendy fixes....other than that.. the guys are great..pretty on it when get it in there and treated courteously...my wallet hurts. read more

I've had nothing but excellent service from Raleigh and his staff. Multiple times of service and guaranteed warranties have all been great! I've lived in this county all my life and it was my first time in 2015 to visit his establishment to purchase four tires. It was around the holidays and he gave me a quote and stood by his quote. When I got to the location the tires he sold me had been put another car by mistake. He upgraded my tires and never charged me more than his original quote. Weird problem (check engine light, rough running) developed while traveling from out of town. PT&B was recommended and they were able to get me right in. I noticed several fleet-type vehicles there and that put me at ease since big commercial outfits brought their vehicles there too. My problem turned out to be some shorted wires in the engine compartment. They didn't throw parts at it trying to fix it but diagnosed the actual problem. These types of problems are notoriously hard to find and I know they didn't charge me for all the time they spent on it. Back on the road good as new for the 500 miles back to home and even now, a month later. All good. These folks are honest, competent and more than fair. read more
