We were vacationing nearby when the battery died in our car. I called Chuck and he checked to make sure they had one in stock. Drove by later and Chuck went over the two choices (their prices are competitive with what I would expect at home) of Interstate batteries. Let me say I hate dealing with a few kinds of companies and auto is the top of my list. If they said I needed a new engine I would say how much. So I'm driving up from LB to Seattle up the 101. Anyway truck was starting to act up drove it into this shop since it was about the only one in town. Tom came out and spent a good 20 minutes looking and testing my truck. Said it might be this or that can't get a reading on my machine. I will put it on the rack in the morning when it's cold and check it again. Long story short, it was not this or that it was just this....he replaced "this" and charged me an hours time. For the first time in my life I felt good about a shop and a mechanic. I gave himself 20.00 for lunch that's how much I feel I was treated great. The shop was also packed with cars and people all day and I know he got me in because I was just driving though. Rude. Did not do work promised.... Told me he didn't want my bussiness & to leave! My car wouldn't start so i called made an appointment to check my altinator. they said that is a free service. then when i got there he wanted a promise that he would fix "whatever is wrong". "Just pull it into the shop he says, we will fix it. but it wont be free." I said, " I just want to find out whats wrong then i will decide what to do about it." You told me you would see if my altinator is working or not. I said if you don't want my bussiness that's fine i said i'll go somewhere else. he said. No, i don't want you're bussiness & to leave. WTF??? So i drove anyway and they never would tell me if my altinator was bad or anything. How rude! my family has lived here for over 20 years & everyone i know will find out about how rude and money hungry these guys are. i would have had him install a new one if he had not been so rude. Now i'll never use that shop for anything. read more

These guys are the best! If you're gonna break down on the Oregon coast, make sure it's near these guys. After storing my 2008 smart car for a year, the battery was dead. I went into the shop to discuss my options. After finding out that a new battery was $230.00 and would take 2 weeks to order, Tom offered to put the old battery on a charger overnight to see if it would take a charge. After wrestling the battery out of the car, I took it in. Bad news, wouldn't hold a charge (and they didn't charge me for this service) and I needed to get the car moved to a new location. Merlin to the rescue! He was able to magically start the car so it could get on the flat bed tow truck and move the car to its new location. Really friendly, extremely helpful and they will get all my business. Can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I was on the Oregon Coast for a crabbing trip with friends... who left all of the doors open and lights on in my van, killing the battery. In the rain, just before closing, the crew from Waldport Tire & Auto came quickly, got my van started and escorted me back to the shop and replaced the battery (6 years into a 5 year warranty...) quickly and reasonably. These folks were fair, fast, honest and very pleasant to work with. This is very re-assuring in this day of having to watch like a hawk to avoid being ripped off. I am very appreciative for their work and the way that I was treated, and would not hesitate for a second to call on them again or recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been meaning to write this for months. We were vacationing along the coast and the battery in our car died. We happened to have two cars so we jumped it and drove to Waldport Tire & Auto after reading the reviews here. They verified that our battery was dead, but they didn't have the right one in stock. The delivery person from the supply place had already left, but instead of making us wait a day, one of the guys said he would drive up to Newport on his lunch break and get one, but then another guy jumped up and said he would go right away. He drove up and picked one up, brought it back and installed it. What fabulous service! They were great! read more

Excellent service today. We had what we thought to be a dead battery in our car. Tried the battery charger and nothing. Placed a call to our emergency roadside assistance who dispatched Waldport Tire and Auto. Our estimated time was 60 minutes. 10 minutes later...Tom showed up at our door! He tried his charger and even went back to the shop for another. When those didn't work, he got the codes and went back to the shop. He called back 10 minutes later to tell us what we needed to know. With the disabled car our only mode of transportation.. he offered to take us to the store, and in addition to Newport tomorrow to Enterprise rentals if needed!! I can only imagine if this had been in Portland or on the road in between, I'm sure the results would not have been as positive. Sincere thanks ! Would rate Waldport Tire & Auto 10/10. Merlin Holderman is one of the most genuine friendliest people ever! He came quick at 1am to check out what I needed. I had a nail in one tire (so the donut wheel replaced that wheel) & then got a flat tire within 10 minuets. He came & towed my friend & I to his shop & opened it up for us! I thought we would be stuck in Waldport for the night according to AAA and Honda towing. He saved us, because we had to be somewhere that morning which was 4.5 hours away! He even offered to tow us all the way home if he didn't have a spare new tire! He fixed up the tire with the nail & replaced the flat. I highly recommend this place. Oddly glad this happened because it was such a pleasure to meet Merlin. Thank you for saving us, & thank you for the job well done! read more

Was travelling the Oregon Coast when the serpentine belt broke on my rig on a Friday night. Found a belt in Newport, but couldn't drive there because the rig would overheat, and the NAPA in Newport would not take a credit card over the phone. Tom at Waldport Tire and called them and charged it to his account and had it delivered to his shop. I limped the 2 miles to Waldport Tire where I managed to replace the belt with the help of a few tools from Tom. He didn't even mark up the part and would not allow me to pay him anything for his help or tools. The man is one of the nicest and caring human beings I have ever met. You can definitely trust these guys. Hard to find honest and caring people like this these days.. read more

OK service if you are stuck on the coast. Given the number of scammers in the area, this rates very high for the OR coast but OK overall.

Whatever you do don't get in an accident while traveling and have your vehicle towed by this company. They are unethical and took our money from our wallet that was left in the car. Then had the nerve to ask for the $200 something tow bill to go see if there was anything left in the car even though they got to keep the car because it was totaled. We had no money or identification to make it back to Idaho. read more
