The ONLY reason I am giving it four stars is because there is too much stuff; a weird complaint albeit, but with the great selection of items they do have, they should just not carry the poorly made and in poor taste items, and open up more floor space in the process. I found the staff to be very helpful and attentive. Got my SC gear and my son picked up some nice shoes too. Lots of options. I'm not a skate/surfer/snowboarder type. So much so, that I bet there is a different word that I should be using, but I don't know it. I stopped in this shop because my 14 y/o brother was visiting from Ohio and I was trying to show him a good time in Cali. He is more of a skate/surfer/snowboarder type, but lives in Ohio. So I don't think he has actually ever participated in any of the above activities. At first, this store reminded me of the Pac Sun stores I visited in my youth in the MidWest. And then I realized this is probable the store that *inspired* Pac Sun. They actually sell boards and the associated gear - not just the clothes and shoes. Maybe only tourists shop here, but it didn't seem like it. Yet, it didn't feel like you needed to know a cool-Northern-California handshake in order to get in. I didn't buy anything (as you might tell, not quite my style), but I had a neat "I am in Santa Cruz" moment! read more

Pretty decent selection of Skate/Surf attitude gear. Store layout is seperated Women's and Men's with some boards up top. It's a pretty packed store. Small shoe selection though. Staff was alright. They have a lot going on there and I was there working before I went shopping there. They have a cool selection of Van's so I picked up a pair for the dude. Parking is typical here. Park in a garage if you can't find a 2 hour spot on the street. Good Luck with that! read more

After school shopping was compounded with no service staff and a general lack of anything other than a pulse. Why do I return you ask? Funny, I ask myself the same question. Location helps, nice selection of Tom's shoes and skate fashions for the middle school subset means I shop with the best intentions of exiting the building yet buy because shopping online is a completely soul-less experience. read more

Huge surf and clothing store in downtown Santa Cruz. My brother said it was tops when I was visiting him, so we went in and it brought back a lot of good memories of California. They had a great sidewalk sale going on, lots of styles to choose from inside for clothes, shoes, surf accessories, and anything else you could imagine for their particular clientele. An awesome selection of clothes and accessories. This skate/surfer/snowboarder heaven establishment is a "must see" if you're ever walking in downtown Santa Cruz (Pacific Avenue). Accessories include: Sunglasses- A good selection of Von Zipper, Electric, and many more cool styles. You don't have to pay more than $100, because the store has a rack that offers $19 of pretty stylish sun glass wear. Shoes- Vans, Converse, Toms, Nike, and Adidas are located in the back of the store. They have a pretty nice selection of shoes here, and they come in many styles. Clothes- Hurley and Billibong swimming shorts will catch your eyes when you walk into the store. It's because the shorts colors are super bright and attractive. However, your eyes will be more wide open when you see the price tag: $49-55. The customer service is above average. Furthermore, there is an abundant selection of Nixon watches, which is very appealing. Nixon watches are expensive but cool looking. They're the Rolex of surfers and skateboarders. Now, if only I can afford a $375-$500 Nixon watch...let me check my bank account. I'll get back to you shortly on that note. Pacific Wave gets a big high five dude! read more

First off I must say that the staff at Pacific Wave is friendly, and will help out their customers, and that is what matters most when walking into any store. They have great stuff, but the employees are a bit distracted. I had a guy named Brock help me out along with another young lady. They both seemed to be a bit uninformed. Bringing my shoes was a difficult process as Brock was told to grab the 3 shoes I asked for and he kind of just disregarded it and continued to walk around the store. No one has a clue what their doing in that store. I've worked for many shoe stores and am advanced in customer service and all I can say is that they need to step it up. This is a great place to go shopping for my husband, who loves RVCA shirts. The selection is larger than any other local store I have been too. The reason it only gets 3 stars is they do not provide gift receipts. Since I was getting a gift, this was necessary. Also it took the cashiers 15 min to gift wrap (with out wrapping), it shouldn't take that long to put a shirt in the box. The staff was not very knowledgeable about store procedures. I lived in Santa Cruz for two years and found Pacific Wave to be the best place in area to find everything you need for the summer. They have a good selection of t-shirts, boardshorts, sunglasses, watches, and shoes. If you surf they have a good selection of surfboards and surfing supplies to stock up on for the summer. The staff is always really friendly and helpful. With summer approaching it's definitely time to head to Pacific Wave and get prepared. read more

Overall, good store. Great selection of items. Love all the variety of SC clothing and other brands like Hurley, volcom, RVCA, Nor Cal, etc etc. Prices are steep but what's new. Their return policy sucks. Their staff 98% of the time are completely rude and unhelpful. Been treated poorly more than a handful of times. Store is over crowded with merchandise and is not stroller/wheelchair friendly at all. I come back every now and again. read more

I bought a Volcom trench coat here today that is so classic and gorgeous, no one will ever believe it came from a surf shop. I always find the cutest stuff here- from this great fifties-style red and white striped dress to the most awesome pair of green Von Zipper sunglasses. Went in to get a piece for my old snowboard fixed before Tahoe. Everyone was super nice and welcoming. A smile goes a long way in my book, but they went above and behind tediously finding the right part that could get me on the slopes by the next day. Super appreciative of their help. I'd definitely recommend them. I also bought two beanies while I was there at only 20 bucks each. I think that's a pretty fair price for Santa Cruz and especially in winter. This is my sweatshirt and hat shop of choice. They have a huge selection of sunglasses too. Come here if you want some authentic skate gear but be prepared to never see the same employee twice. Wow - incredibly horrible customer service. There were about 6 plus ppl working, however none seemed to mind that customers were in the store. Instead, it was really important that they take pics of themselves and chat with each other eve though we had been waiting to purchase merchandise. I set my sunglasses down while trying on a sweater. 10 minutes later they are gone and shockingly no one can help me... Wonder where they went... I don't recommend this place obviously. read more

I love this store! I think I've stumbled upon this place online, but to finally visit in person was really cool. This spot beats out Pac Sun and Zumiez easily because of their vast selection and markdowns. I especially love Volcom, and this place carries pretty much, the whole Volcom's line. There's SO MUCH clothes in stock, maybe too much becuase I had a tough time shopping. They also carry surf boards, skateboards, long boards and snowboards. But I think the staff could be more friendly and offer to help customers once in a while. I felt like they spent way too much time having their own side conversations. Although this store is pretty expensive, they do carry a wide variety of items and brands. Just the other day they had a sidewalk sale and had shoes marked down as low as $10-$30. I live in Tallahassee, Fl but I love to surf. As you can imagine there aren't any great surf shops around here, so I always have to order my stuff online. A college friend recommended I check out pacwave.com and I was pleasantly surprised. They have a great variety of products, brands, price ranges, etc. After I made my ordered I had some additional questions, so I gave them a call and actually talked to a real person not a machine (guess that's the benefits of ordering from a family run business versus other online stores that keep asking you to press blah number for blah, blah service). When you live outside Santa Cruz and can only get the same, tired skate/surf clothing stuff at the big PacSun/Tilly's/Zumiez/Mainland chains, this store is refreshing with it's much larger (and different) selection. I often make trips to Santa Cruz from San Jose just to go shopping at this one store and wish there was more of them around. The parking can suck on the weekends, but it's easy during the week. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because they're often out of sizes and carry too much small and medium. read more

The store is also so crowded with racks and shelves that it makes looking at things without getting in other people's ways extremely difficult.
