Funny name, but great service. My 20 year old limestone counters were pitted, stained and always…read morelooked dirty. They came in, honed/ polished to a high matte finish, sealed cracks and sealed the surface. Limestone is porus and subject to etching from acid foods (lemons!) so a high polish would not last long term. The counters look like new with a very, very even finish. They took care to drape off all my appliances and cabinets, polished for about 5 hours, then cleaned up well. Polishing is wet, messy process but they know what they are doing and didn't leave a mess at all. Super happy with the response and service.

Everything was great. Well, he totally flaked and was a no show. I did call to try to confirm the appointment and it was sent directly to voicemail--just so not cool. My advice to the Grout Geek: if you don't want to take on a job for whatever reason, have the common decency to let the customer know so they don't sit around waiting for your arrival.

I'm only giving them 4 stars though because during the estimate they suggested to also clean and refinish our granite counters, including repairing old grout and a crack. At the end, the counters look exactly the same, and the grout was done poorly, while the crack was done terribly with large pockets still open. We called them back and the original estimator came to complete the job. He finished the grout okay, but the crack looks terrible and messy with clear epoxy stuck on the counters around it. I really could've done that myself. My advice is use to them for floors or tile and pass on the add-ons.

I wish I can replace everything with brand new quartz countertops, but our budget is limited. I hired Martin to steam clean, polish, re-grout, caulk, and even replace some broken tiles. Everything looks absolutely brand new. I saved thousands of dollars by going with Martin. He really pays attention to detail and will work on a spot until he deems it perfect. Also, out of all of the contractors I worked with, Martin was the most helpful and also the nicest. He gave me advice about the painters I was using, the new fence I wanted to install, and a plethora of other information. He's an all around good guy.

However, in this case I'm doing it to save someone from making the wrong choice, when there's always other reputable businesses to choose from. So, Run. I'm serious: RUN, don't walk, AWAY from this company. I had not only one, but two separate visits from the owner of this company, Greg Alexander, and then received a very detailed estimate for the work to be done on my Limestone Flooring. Flooring, I will add, that I have regularly maintained for years. So, i'm more than familiar with the process in maintaining it. Although I wasn't thrilled to have the work done over my July 4th weekend, I accepted his fair offer; the promise of a job well done; attention to detail; his "previously positive" Yelp reviews --And that it would be completed in one day. (Because in the past, it has always been a 2 day job --At least a second day to return to seal the stone.) I trusted him. I trusted his word. I trusted he would do the work outlined in an agreed upon bid?!? --I WAS WRONG! July 3rd started with me personally, @7am) removing all the furniture on the flooring, and then waiting for the crew to arrive --They didn't show 'till 10:30am. I even joked that it was going to be a lot of work, or a long day to get it all done in one day; starting at this time. Regardless, the team started masking the recently installed new base boards, and begun to prep the job. I kindly pointed out, as Greg had asked me to do, the different areas that needed attention: A loose tile, missing grout, some etching, and a few holes that were to be filled, etc... (ALL of which was in the bid, and actuality on the document they brought to the job.) They then mentioned to me that all the new baseboards would need to be masked off for protection, and that there were a lot of corners that would need to be done by hand. Again, okay, and yes, that's how it has always been done in the past. --And, again, this wasn't a surprise, and was also discussed with Greg. I began to get the feeling that the guys we're thinking, as I was too, that they might not get this all done in one day... The next thing I know, they are on the phone with Greg and someone else; saying how they were concerned that in order to get the job done "correctly" they would need more time, or that they could split the job, or that Greg could come back the next day (Which is July 4th by the way) and finish, or some other strange scenario. And then I'm suddenly on some surreal conference call with Greg and his "Manager," and it's weirdly being turned back on me, as if I was expecting something that wasn't agreed upon. -Which was utter nonsense, and I called them out on that several times --That's when I could even get a word in on this "impromptu conference call" taking place at my house to discuss a job that had already been estimated not only once, but twice, and had a detailed bid... --Wasting time, frustrating me, not getting the job started, and getting me quite upset. --So unprofessional, it's beyond! What were they trying to do, I wondered? Is this some type of "bait & switch" tactic? It felt like they were literally trying to get me upset, because they wanted to get out of the job --And it quickly became obvious that there was more than just a miscommunication between Greg and his workers, and what needed to be done to make this right. --Which they weren't even trying to do. They could care less that they messed up my holiday weekend, we're being entirely unprofessional, or even trying to find a way to make this "right." (Whatever that was...) Because, again, there was nothing to "make right"?!?!? Just do the job that was discussed, and literally itemized in the bid, in your hand! --And as I said too many times to deaf ears: "Do the work detailed in the bid, and we're good to go..." Nothing more, nothing less... They didn't care. They really didn't care, or took any profession responsibility. They wanted to find a way to walk away, and walk away they did; leaving me with an uncompleted job over a scheduled holiday weekend. I still can't figure out if this was a way to get me to pay more money, or the guys didn't have the time, or just how they operate --But I can tell you it was beyond disrespectful, completely unprofessional, and I would seriously advise you to contact any number of local & reputable floor companies before considering this company. It appeared they had many "previous" good yelp reviews, but apparently many years ago. --Don't be fooled. Here's one from today! Trust me! Lesson Learned -RUN AWAY!

We received our report later about 9 hours after our inspection was complete (and received our expedited mold report a day later), and the report is very thorough and easy to read. Josh was working the day we went in the Ventura store and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful so it was pretty much a given that we'd go with them again. It took quite awhile for us to decide on the carpet color we liked so we stopped by the store a few times to pick up different samples from Josh and he was more than patient with us while we were in the "deciding phase". Once we made up our mind, he made the process so easy and quickly got our place on the install schedule. While at the store one day, we also fell in love with a beautiful vinyl that looked like tile so we purchased it to have our kitchen flooring redone. It was two different teams that worked on our flooring, one for tile and the other for carpeting, and both teams were excellent! Thank you to Josh for making this tough process so easy for us! I like to use local, small businesses whenever possible, and his reviews were excellent. My mistake was not noticing how old they were. He advised it would take 4 to 4 1/2 hours to complete. He was there 5 hours when my realtor had to ask him to leave for the open house that was being held that day. He came back afterward to finish the roof inspection. He failed to complete an inspection for the kitchen due to "time constraints". However, he had time to note that there was a pet door that was a "safety" concern. He also stated that some items were issues that he was clearly wrong about ("minimal" strapping on a water heater that had 2 straps from a newly purchased kit and a third steel strap, replacement windows that he stated were the "builder type from the original construction"). While I appreciate thoroughness, spending time nitpicking every minor detail in a 61 year old house but not completing the full inspection I paid for is not acceptable. He did not get my name right on the report, even though I wrote it for him on the contract I signed. He did not provide the hard copy report that was promised, nor did he email it to me - I had to get it from my realtor. I'm giving him a 3 for thoroughness. If you have unlimited time to wait for this guy to complete the inspection, go for it. He may have been a great inspector in his prime, but personally I think he needs to hang it up and retire already.
