Clam's Casino was my selected pie, and believe me, it was hard to decide. Every bite was thin-crust valhalla, with the flavor of Clams melding perfectly with the classic combo of Bacon & Onion on red sauce. Yeah, I'm ruined until my next visit. Wifey bit on the night's special (Chicken & Sausage over Penne) and cooed with delight. I will take these mom & pop pizza joints over a fancy sit-down Italian resto experience 10 times outta 10. After a late week night we decided on take out and our joint was closed for vacation. I got a steak and cheese with mushrooms and it was crispy baked roll and tender, delicious steak that really let the bread share its juices. Everything was ready as soon as I arrived and HOT!! Solid spot in a convenient location near the water. They made slices available for an individual (so I didn't have to order the whole pie). It was also fresh right out of the oven. Our normal place was closed which gave us an opportunity to try somewhere else. If could give less than a star, I would. $40 for a large pepperoni pizza, an order of Calamari, and a garlic bread is expensive. However, if it's well done, I wouldn't care. This wasn't. Half an inch of dry flour caked on the bottom of the pizza, which was basically the only crust there. Over oily. I choked down a piece, and that was about it. Calamari was ordered with cherry peppers (NY style), no cherry peppers when I got it home. Calamari wasn't well breaded, was soggy (some to be expected but this was awful), overly rubbery, too smelly (Calamari should have a seafood smell but this was borderline rancid smelling), and it was inedible. Garlic bread with cheese was ok. Wasnt cut except lengthwise, which makes one basically rip it, but.... Nothing to write home about, but I guess it's borderline impossible to screw up. I thought maybe it was just me, but after reading other reviews, I feel so validated. I think they're pizza is pretty damn good, but unfortunately for them they've lost another customer - a regular customer who picked up a pie weekly! Not only did I call 25 minutes in advance on a weekday, but I waited another 15 minutes inside the place standing awkwardly next to a couple who was dining there because there was no other place to stand. I have to start by saying that I have always liked Pacileo's Pizza and other items on the menu and that the staff are friendly. That being said, I purchased this afternoon a to-go order, 1 large Mozzarella Pizza, 1 Small Plain w/ grated cheese and 1 Large Giant Salad that came with apple slices, raisins and walnuts. The total came to $43.15 with the salad costing $13...yes $13! When I arrived home I thought that they gave me a small salad instead of the Large Giant Salad and called them up to ask...the woman was very nice but stated No, that was the large salad you picked up. I was amazed. I did tell her that I was disappointed and she did say "I apologize" several times and was polite, but in the end the salad weighed less than 7 oz and couldn't imagine that would be defined as a large. I've really tried to like Pacileo's because it's so close to our house. When they added delivery, I really wanted it to become a great standby place for us for nights when we didn't feel like cooking. However, it just didn't work out that way. First of all, it's relatively expensive compared to the other pizza places in town. The pizza is good, but not quite as good as the price would indicate. Add to that a charge for delivery--and the fact that we'd obviously tip the delivery guy--and it becomes silly expensive for delivery pizza. And even then, it's so close to the house that I might just do takeout, but they range from rude to downright nasty when you call, and they're bad about time estimates. So you end up with a pretty stressful experience, between calling and not knowing if you're going to get somebody on the phone who's just in a rush or who's going to be full-on nasty, to showing up and standing in a noisy restaurant awkwardly for 15 minutes because your pizza isn't ready yet. I'll probably try them again at some point, but so far, every single experience I've had with them has been decent at best. read more

This is my first review ever of a restaurant (good or bad) but the experience tonight was absolutely awful. We come to Pacileo's from time to time for decent pizza in the neighborhood and have family and friends that frequent here often. We will not be returning after having multiple issues with the service. We as customers understand that Friday's are busy. But if you will treat your in house customer like second class patrons forgetting to bring simple things such as (water, Parmesan, straws for kids etc.) after having us wait over an hour to receive one dish (pasta) and promising "pizza would be out soon" after 30 more minutes waiting to have them bring us the wrong pizza there is no excuse. We decided we are just going to chop our losses and leave. We were told our pizza would "be comp'd." For future reference to this restaurant you can't "comp" something you never made/delivered. We paid for our time there, that should have been "comp'd", if we hadn't have the waitress wouldn't been able to afford her drugs that she was obviously on. We tried, but don't need to bother going back here again. We will encourage our neighborhood friends and family to go elsewhere as well. read more

New Haven style, thin crust pizza... It's absolutely delicious! We order take out there once a week or so. Bacon and tomato is a favorite of mine. The bacon is crispy and crumbled up, and the tomato comes with basil and garlic. Their straight up cheese pizza is one of the only things my super picky 3 year old will eat! Our experience at the new location in North Branford was very positive, however. Perhaps with a new venue comes a fresh start. We had great service (although we were one of three tables at the time). The pizza here is decent but I'll never get one delivered again. I ordered a pie for delivery and it ended up costing my over $30 with the tip. That's ridiculous. Their pizza excels at exhibiting all the key characteristics of a New Haven pizza: Extremely sloppy, messy, and flimsy Heavy & very stretchy mootz Chewy crust Oily Charred crust in several spots No garlic I've had their pizza several times and every time it's been amazingly good. Today was no exception. If I could have inhaled the slices through my nose I would have. And if anybody tried to grab one of my slices I would have easily gnawed off their arm. Nice imagery, huh? Pacileo's pizza is made in the style of Grand Apizza and Ernie's Pizza in New Haven, meaning it's slightly thicker than the giants on Wooster Street. Plus, it's not as charred. They have both dine-in and take-out. I LOVE Pacileo's! Been going there since it opened, and have never been disappointed. The crust is thin and delicious. The sauce is fresh, with small chunks of tomato. I often buy extra sauce to use throughout the week, because it is so tasty. The white shrimp pizza is absolutely to die for. The gluten free pizzas are scrumptious! The salads are crunchy and fresh, with a touch of cheese and croutons on top, as well as cherry tomatoes and cucumber. The eggplant parm is yummy, good portion, with plenty of mozzarella and just enough sauce. The chicken parm is fresh white meat, with a slight crunch, in that delicious sauce with mozzarella. The meatballs and sausages taste homemade. I have only had wonderful meals here over the course of a couple of decades. I highly recommend! read more

Just tried this local place for first time because my usual spot was closed. Oh dear. First off, the pizza was pretty good. My complaint is with customer service and quality control. We did a pickup, and waited for our pizza, even though we arrived at suggested time. The salad was a tin of romaine and an abundance of olives with pits. Yikes, pits? They forgot to include the dressing which resulted in a trip back from Branford Point, where we had planned to eat. The sandwich we ordered was not as described on the menu. I appreciate that covid has taken its toll on restaurants. That's one reason we have done takeout several times a week for the past year, but service and quality control should be expected. I'm so disappointed! My spouse and I went to this establishment to enjoy a fabulous Italian meal and weren't allowed to do so because the waitress made a simple mistake which could have been corrected by simply admitting error. As my spouse and I entered the dining Room we were politely seated to our table and presented with menus. The waitress indicated she Would-be back in a moment to take our order. When she returned she asked if we would like something to drink. My spouse and I had decided we would like wine with our dinner. We requested a bottle of Pinot Grigio. For some reason the waitress must have misunderstood or was caught up in her own thoughts or perhaps she confused us with another customer but for whatever reason she brought back a bottle of red wine. I cannot recall the name of this wine but it was not what we requested. She pops the cork out of the bottle and she poured me a glass. I ask her a question as I pick up the glass to sip "Pinot makes red wine now?" And she says "oh you said pinot?". I respond yes I said pinot. She says I didn't hear you say that I made a mistake. She then tells me that I have to pay for this bottle because she opened it. I say I didn't order this particular brand of wine why do I have to pay for the bottle because you opened it in error. She then calls over her manager to defuse the situation because I became a little annoyed. The manager also tells me that I have to pay for this bottle of wine Because it is the policy of the restaurant. At this point I put $20 on a table for the bottle of wine I didn't want and stated I would like a bottle of what I ordered. The response was they don't sell bottles of pinot for table service. So now I'm really disappointed in the way my spouse and I are being treated And I asked " do you not want us to patron your establishment for dinner because your waitress made a mistake we didn't make the mistake." The manager then takes the $20 for the bottle of wine that we did not want and says in a very cold and non chalante manner " of course we want you to stay for dinner." I took her demeanor as I did not want her or her kitchen staff making or serving me or my spouse food. I was afraid very afraid of what they would do to my food in the kitchen So I decided that I could not eat there; we could not eat there. My spouse;My significant other, he was so disappointed Because hes Italian American And just really wanted some Italian food and also couldn't believe how we were Being treated. This pizza is great. Dave Portnoy would be impressed. But when ordering a very overpriced pizza, the toppings/items are so scarce. For instance a sausage pie, large there is about 12 to 16, small corn sized pieces over the pie. Why ? You charge top dollar, but give a discounted quality of toppings. Come on now!!!
